The name's Martin. Aston Martin.
Aston Martin has been known for its exquisite and luxurious sports cars that is seen in the hands of the main heroes of a work. Ever since it grew popularity with the film franchise James Bond, the brand has spawned numerous works, mainly the ones in British film and television, typically owned by a fancy lady or a sharply dressed gentleman, or even a stereotypical secret agent who drives this beauty for their missions or for cruising pleasure around the city and countryside.
Remember... a character don't need to be like James Bond to drive an Aston Martin.
If anyone thinks about this car, then they're most likely thinking of it as the Hero's Classic Car of James Bond.
The Aston Martin DB5 is a grand tourer produced by Aston Martin from 1963 to 1965. The "DB" designation is derived from the initials of David Brown, who bought the company in 1947 and built it up afterwards, working closely on the production of the Aston Martin 2-Litre Sports, now retroactively known as the Aston Martin DB1. The car is powered by a 282 hp 3.7 L - 4.0 L DOHC inline-6 engine with three SU carburettors and a robust ZF 5-speed transmission, capable of reaching 145 mph (233 km/h), which is pretty fast at that time.
Numerous variants of the DB5 were produced such as the convertible in which the "Volante" name wasn't used until 1965, a one-off shooting brake designed for David Brown, and a DB5 Vantage, a high-performance version of the DB5, fitted with three Weber carburettors and revised camshafts, producing 40 horsepower more than the original.
In 2013, the DB5 was featured on a "British Auto Legends" postage stamp issued by the Royal Mail.
Film — Animation
- Befitting a British spy archetype, C.H.R.O.M.E. Agent Finn McMissile from Cars 2 bears a striking resemblance to the DB5.
- As an Actor Allusion with Sean Connery, the silver grey Cool Car the titular protagonist drives of Sir Billi is the famous Aston Martin DB5, which "still handles like it used to..."

- As an Actor Allusion in The Cannonball Run, Roger Moore plays an eccentric millionaire who... amusingly enough, participates in the race with is an Aston Martin DB5.
- As mentioned before, the DB5 is best known for its role in the James Bond films.
- The car first became widely known in the Sean Connery era after it appeared in Goldfinger. The same car (registration BMT 216A) was used again briefly in the next film, Thunderball. Q says it all introducing the car in Goldfinger:Q: Now, pay attention please. Windscreen - bulletproof. As are the side and the rear windows. Revolving number plates, naturally. Valid - all countries.
- A different DB5 (registration BMT 214A) was used in Pierce Brosnan's first film GoldenEye, in which it's implied that the car was now Bond's personal vehicle and had no gadgets — although it did come equipped with a champagne cooler in the arm rest and a fax machine. The same car briefly reappeared in the next film, Tomorrow Never Dies. It was set to make a cameo appearance in the Scotland-set scenes in The World Is Not Enough, but most of these scenes were cut in the final edit.
- The car managed to appear in Casino Royale, Daniel Craig's debut, in spite of the film's Continuity Reboot. In the film, the car is owned by one of the villains, Alex Dimitrios, and Bond wins the car from Dimitrios after beating him in a poker game. Another DB5 with the original registration BMT 216A appears in Skyfall, but is destroyed in the film's climactic finale. Nonetheless, it is seen again, fully repaired, in the next film Spectre, firstly in Q's underground workshop in various stages of rebuild, and at the film's ending, fully rebuilt, with Bond driving it away. It was featured yet again in Craig's final film, No Time to Die. As a result, in total Craig drove it more than Connery and Brosnan combined.
- The car first became widely known in the Sean Connery era after it appeared in Goldfinger. The same car (registration BMT 216A) was used again briefly in the next film, Thunderball. Q says it all introducing the car in Goldfinger:

- Dunk and Martin in Choro Q are both bodied in Aston Martin DB5s. The latter is clearly a Shout-Out to James Bond.

- This Bond car appears in the Forza series since Motorsport 3. In Horizon 3, a car like that is needed to complete one of the Horizon Secret Service challenges.
- Gran Turismo 7 marks the debut of the DB5, and the game isn't hesitant to refer this as an iconic James Bond car. It can be awarded for free by getting all gold in The Human Comedy driving missions. It's the third pre-80s classic Aston Martin after DB6 of GT2 and DB3S of Sport
- While more closely resembling a DB4, the JB 700 in Grand Theft Auto V is meant to be a Shout-Out to Bond's own DB5.
- Before that, Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 also included this iconic British sports car, with the obvious Punny Name of "James Bomb".
- The DB5 made its debut in the Need for Speed franchise in Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) as part of the Movie Legends Pack. Despite its slow acceleration and top speed, it makes up for it with its cornering capabilities.
- It would later return in Need for Speed Payback as a DLC car in a March 2018 update. In Heat and Unbound, it appears as a regular car in the base roster.
- You can be like James Bond in Rocket League as the DB5 is one of the Downloadable Content cars you can bash oppnents with in a car soccer match. It does however have some weapons of its own.
Western Animation
- The Phineas and Ferb episode "Live and Let Drive", as its name indicates, would obviously have lots of James Bond references. Here, Major Monogram sends Perry the Platypus to a mission in a swanky spy car, the "1963 Olson Martin".
The Aston Martin DB7 is a luxurious sports tourer produced from 1994 up until 2004, serving as the successor to the then-aging DB6 20 year ago.
This was the first ever Aston Martin to be designed by Ian Callum (who'd later design its successor the DB9 and the Vanquish) who also worked alongside South Africa's Keith Helfet. Like its predecessors, the DB9 continues the tradition on using the "DB" Theme Initials, owing to the name of the owner David Brown. Initially, the DB7 uses a six-cylinder 335 hp engine, and was considered to be an "entry-level" Aston Martin model, just below the V8 Virage which was introduced a few years earlier.
Its powerful variant, the DB7 V12 Vantage was introduced in 1999, and as the Meaningful Name implies, utilizes an almighty Aston Martin V12 engine, which produced about 100 horsepower more than its vanilla DB7. And in 2002, revised version called the V12 GT gets a slight power increase while the V12 GTA offers an automatic transmission.
While it discontinued in 2004 and was replaced by the DB9, more than 7,000 units of the DB7 were produced making it the most-produced Aston Martin model of that time.

- As one of the songs of Men in Black, Will Smith raps to the beats of his tune whilst just cruising around in the streets of Los Angeles and New York City with his Schizo Tech DB7 Volante in "Just Cruisin'. - An even ultra-rarer case is this DB7 GT Zagato which can be obtained normally like its other fellow Aston Martins in Test Drive Unlimited.
The DB9 is Aston Martin's grand tourer which debuted in 2003. Designed by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker, the DB9 uses an aluminum construction, whilst utilizing the 5.9L V12 engine from the Vanquish.
Like its predecessors, the DB9 continues on using the "DB" Theme Initials, owing to the name of the owner David Brown. As the DB7's successor, Aston Martin did not name the car DB8 due to fear that the name would mean the car would use a V8 engine.
The DB9 comes in either a coupe or a Volante convertible. A 2013 facelift saw many tweaks and improvement to the overall design, whereas the DBS V12 is a high-performance sports car based on the DB9, serving as the successor of the first-generation Vanquish. The Virage name was revived in 2011 (last seen in 2000 as a separate grand tourer), as as the comfort and refined variant based on the aforementioned DBS.
Its racing car, the Aston Martin DBR9 debuted in 2005 and would be the LMGT1 class winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2007 and 2008.

Unveiled as the AMV8 Vantage concept car in 2003, production has pushed through for the 2005 model as the V8 Vantage, and as the name implies, it uses an AJ-V8 engine from Jaguar, producing 380 horsepower. Unlike its grand-tourer brother, the DB9 and the Vanquish, the V8 Vantage was intended to lean on performance and more exotic engineering, being focused on buyers from The Rival, the Porsche 911 and other widely known sports car competitors.
Throughout its course, the Vantage has made various variants, including the powerful Aston Martin V12 Vantage, hence the name, using an AM11 V12 engine from the DBS V12. Both have gotten uprated and sportier version of said models such as the V8 Vantage S and the V12 Vantage S. In 2015, a limited-edition track-oriented Aston Martin Vantage GT12 was unveiled as part of the homologation of the race spec Vantage GT3.
While the V8 Vantage and V12 Vantage ended production in 2017 and 2018 respectively, Aston Martin unveiled the next generation 2018 model known as simply the Vantage, which now utilizes a turbocharged Mercedes-AMG V8 engine, with its V12 counterpart following 4 years later.
Vantages have been widely involved in motorsports, such as the Vantage N24 which competed in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, the Vantage GT2 and GT3 that partook in various endurance races, the new generation Vantage AMR GTE that competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship, as well as the Class 1 Touring Car that made its one-shot appearance in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters in 2019. Notably, the British green Vantage became one of the safety cars in Formula One in 2021 onwards.

Q: Be careful, 007, it's just had a new coat of paint!
The V8 series are Aston Martin's handbuilt grand tourers manufactured from 1969 to 1989.
When Aston Martin were looking for the successor to the DB6, they insist on a larger, more modern looking car. It was ready, but the engine wasn't, so at the mean time, the company in 1967 launched the Aston Martin DBS, with a straight-six engine from said DB6. However Tadek Marek's V8 was ready to be fitted in 1969, now called the DBS V8. With the inline-6 Vantage cut-short in 1973, the DBS V8 is now restyled and simply called as the Aston Martin V8 or the AM V8. As the name implies, it's powered by a 5.3 L V8 engine, producing 315 horsepower at average and top speeds estimated at 242 km/h (150 mph).
A powerful variant called the V8 Vantage introduced in 1977 has its engine uprated to 390 hp, though a 'big-bore' aftermarket option is also available with a 450 hp 6.3 L V8 engine, shared with the full-size Lagonda. With a top speed of 170 mph (270 km/h), the V8 Vantage was earned the title as "Britain's First Supercar".
