A friendly reminder of why you don't mess with Texas.
"When that pie goes up to bat— I mean, hits his lower intestine... BOOM!"
Mr. Krabs, "Dying for Pie"

If there's one thing that happens in Bikini Bottom second to nautical nonsense, it's the amount of explosions that happen on a near-daily basis. Bikini Atoll was a nuclear test site, and apparently, the explosions never stopped.

  • In "Jellyfishing", Squidward accidentally swallows a jellyfish while bicycling, which he accidentally gets in his shirt and stings him, causing him to lose control of his bike as a result, sending him tumbling off a rocky cliff. Upon hitting the bottom, he explodes into a mushroom cloud.
  • In "Naughty Nautical Neighbors", the amount of soda SpongeBob and Patrick had been given by Squidward is burped out into hundreds of gas bubbles, and when they all violently pop at once, they cause Squidward's house to explode into nothing but debris.
Squidward: I should just walk away, right now.
  • In "Employee of the Month", SpongeBob and Squidward race to make more Krabby Patties than each other, multiplying their output to the point that they make patties by the thousands that eventually fill the Krusty Krab to the brim and somehow cause it to be destroyed in a fiery explosion.
  • In "Suds", a now-giant SpongeBob sneezes with enough force that it causes the Krusty Krab to explode.
  • In "Texas", a bloodlusted Sandy chases after SpongeBob and Patrick for making fun of Texas, and when she lassos Patrick and pulls him into the horizon, he explodes into a mushroom cloud upon vanishing from sight.
  • In "Something Smells", SpongeBob's bad breath causes a driver to lose their vision, and after recklessly driving for a short while, their boat spontaneously combusts, killing the driver and leaving nothing but a pipe frame. ...Which an officer still gives a ticket.
  • "Dying for Pie" has no short of seven explosions, what with the titular pie being a bomb. When Mr. Krabs accidentally drops a crumb from the pie when trying to get his milk, the resulting explosion levels his entire office. Then, when SpongeBob seemingly eats the pie, Squidward has an Imagine Spot of him exploding into a million pieces. He then has another thought of SpongeBob exploding while he waits for the sunset alongside him. Once sunset finally arrives, a giant explosion happens, leaving Squidward a sobbing wreck, until another explosion happens that knocks over the brick wall he built, showing that SpongeBob has been blowing Cartoon Bombs made of bubbles, of which he blows a third one. Finally, after revealing he still has the pie, he trips over a rock and throws it in Squidward's face, with the resulting explosion destroying all of Bikini Bottom in a recreation of Crossroads Baker.
  • In "Imitation Krabs", SpongeBob inserts a penny into Robot Krabs' chest, which activates his self-destruct mode, causing Plankton to run back to the Chum Bucket screaming, and the restaurant viscerally exploding.
Plankton: Coin-operated self-destruct. Not one of my better ideas...
  • In "Wormy", when SpongeBob and Patrick are celebrating "saving" Bikini Bottom from the "monster", a meteor can be seen hurdling into a building, causing it to fall to the ground and then explode into a mushroom cloud.
  • In "Gary Takes a Bath", one of SpongeBob's ploys to get Gary to take a bath is to strap a bomb to his chest, saying it'll explode in 3 seconds unless he takes a bath. Gary proceeds to do nothing, letting SpongeBob explode into a pile of ashes.
  • In "Band Geeks", the flag twirlers spin their flags so fast that they fly up into the air, hurdle toward a blimp, and cause it to explode upon impact. Cue a trumpet player playing Taps and Squidward curling up in a Troubled Fetal Position.
  • In "The Algae's Always Greener", Mr. Plankton promotes SpongeBob to register duty, causing him to randomly grow a fuse in his head and literally explode in excitement.
  • "My Pretty Seahorse" has two explosions, first with Squidward having a Call-Back to "Jellyfishing", with his bike losing the front wheel, tossing him off a rocky cliff, and exploding in a mushroom cloud when he hits the bottom, and second when Scooter puts his quarter in Mystery's "coin slot", causing her to kick him into the horizon and make him explode upon impact.
  • Five explosions happen in "Just One Bite". First, when Squidward condemns the Krabby Patty after taking one bite, the two hearts in SpongeBob's eyes transform into two mushroom clouds. Later on, Squidward kicks over the Krusty Krab's burglar alarm, thinking it's just a bucket of water, until he recognizes the scent as gasoline, with a robot arm dropping a match on the puddle and making Squidward explode. He runs into the kitchen, where another gasoline bucket drops from the ceiling and makes him explode once again. Finally, after eating one too many Krabby Patties, SpongeBob tries to stop him.
Squidward: What's gonna happen?! Am I gonna blow up?!
SpongeBob: No, worse! It'll go right to your thighs!
Squidward: My thighs...? (his thighs are bloated)
SpongeBob: (beat) And then you'll blow up! (the Krusty Krab explodes)

  • In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy VI: The Motion Picture", SpongeBob hires Sandy as the movie's demolitions expert, with her blowing up Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy three separate times. Of course, this also comes with some confusion when SpongeBob hires Plankton as the boom operator.
Sandy: Did somebody say boom?! (explosion)

Then, when it cuts to him and Mr. Krabs in elementary school, Plankton creates a concoction that he says will "blow everyone away", but it only explodes on him.
  • "Spy Buddies" has four explosions. First, when the Krabby Patty containing SpongeBob and Patrick's mission briefing is set to self-destruct, Patrick puts it in his pants to lessen the blow, causing SpongeBob to have an Ash Face and Patrick to lose his entire torso. Then, when the two hop into the Spymobile, Patrick decides to hit the self-destruct button, causing the Spymobile to explode. Later, Patrick can't hold it in anymore, and his laser pants go haywire, causing the Chum Bucket's glove to crash into the restaurant and make it explode. Finally, when Patrick pops Plankton's blimp, it hurdles into the Krusty Krab and causes it to explode upon impact.

  • In "SpongeBob vs. The Patty Gadget", Squidward cranks the Patty Gadget into overdrive, but accidentally breaks the lever and runs out of the Krusty Krab. SpongeBob continues to make Krabby Patties until the Gadget gives in, and it promptly explodes with a blast loud enough that it wakes King Neptune.

Later, Plankton has had enough with the safe's durability, causing him to rip a piece of the safe off, rip one of its molecules in half, and then rip one of its atoms in half.
