Original air date: 6/6/2008 (produced in 2007)

Squidward sees Squilliam, his rival, on a House Hunters-esque Show Within a Show called House Fancy, and is very ticked off at how fancy his house is, so he calls the host of the show (voiced by Alton Brown of Good Eats fame) and tells him his house is fancier than Squilliam's. However, seeing how his house is mostly an average one, he has to fix it up. Then, when he finds SpongeBob stalking him through his window, he decides to let him help, where things after that go From Bad to Worse...

...and by that, we mean what is very likely the reason you remember this episode - that part. You know very well the one we're talking about. The part where Squidward gets his toenail ripped off. Seriously, we strongly advise against watching it on a full stomach.

House Fancy contains examples of:

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: The House Fancy opening sequence.
  • Agony of the Feet: Squidward's sudden toenail gets ripped out by SpongeBob's incompetence.
  • Brick Joke: SpongeBob tells Squidward in an early scene that he lent his brain to Patrick for some chocolate bars. Later in the episode, Patrick shows up at Squidward's house to return his brain.
  • Butt-Monkey: Squidward, as usual.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Squidward tells the host of House Fancy that his house is fancier than Squilliam's without thinking it might lead the host to want to see it for himself.
  • Exact Words: Squidward tells SpongeBob to paint a faded spot on his wall. SpongeBob proceeds to splash blue paint all over Squidward's living room.
Squidward: I told you just to paint the faded spot!
SpongeBob: Well, it all looked kinda faded.
  • Family-Unfriendly Violence: Squidward's toenail is ripped free from his foot in the most graphic manner possible.
  • House Inspection: Squidward wants to show up his high school rival Squilliam by having his house on a TV show. Naturally, SpongeBob shows up to help and makes a mess of Squidward's home. Then the show host compliments him on his daring sense of style.
  • The Last Straw: Squidward's vacuum cleaner was full to bursting, having sucked up all of the house furniture and SpongeBob. Then when it sucks up SpongeBob's brain, it reaches full capacity and explodes.
  • Poor Communication Kills: When SpongeBob helps Squidward move the sofa, Squidward tells him "Don't move until I say..." but then screams in pain as SpongeBob pushes the sofa over his foot. SpongeBob repeatedly crushes Squidward's foot and rips his toenail out because he thinks "OWWWWW!!" is the signal.
  • Poster Patchup: Squidward notices a hole in his wall and tries to cover it up with a painting...only to discover that there is a faded spot where the painting originally was.
  • Retcon: It's implied in "Squilliam Returns" that Squidward knows where his rival lives, but in this episode, he acts like he's seeing Squilliam's house for the first time. Unless Squilliam has had major house improvements since the events of that episode, this could leave viewers confused.
  • Shout-Out: House Fancy is one to House Hunters.
    • The theme song to House Fancy is a parody of Clean House.
  • Special Guest: Alton Brown as Nick Withers, host of House Fancy.
  • Stalker without a Crush: SpongeBob, who was spying on Squidward through the window of his house. Squidward subsequently threatens to "get the cops down here again," implying it's not the first time SpongeBob has done so.
  • Sudden Anatomy: Squidward suddenly has a toenail on one of his feet, just so it can get dislodged horribly.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Despite his house being in ruins, Squidward wins.

Krabby Road

Original air date: 3/3/2008 (produced in 2007)

Plankton tricks SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward to help him steal the Krabby Patty formula by convincing them to be in his rock band.

Krabby Road contains examples of:

  • '80s Hair: Plankton has this for the episode after having used it to disguise himself as a prison guard's mustache in order to escape prison.
  • Bait-and-Switch Accusation:
SpongeBob: Mr. Krabs makes me censor out all the patty ingredients for my lyrics.
Plankton: Oh, that's terrible! Krabs shouldn't stifle a true artist like you! Go ahead and sing your patty song, uncensored!
SpongeBob: [gasps] I know what you're doing!
Plankton: What?! Me?! I'm not trying to steal the patty formula.
SpongeBob: You want me to join your band!
  • Band Episode: In this episode, after having escaped from prison, Plankton forms his own rock band with SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward as part of his plan to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula.
  • Brick Joke: Patrick joins the episode saying he found out where boogers come from. Later on in the episode, SpongeBob hides Plankton inside his nose as a booger to conceal him from the cops.
  • Censored for Comedy: Mr. Krabs makes SpongeBob censor out the Krabby Patty ingredients for his lyrics, so he replaces them with funny noises and gibberish lyrics.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: When Plankton is thrown back in jail, he has a new cell with a window where he's forced to listen and/or "practice" with the other bandmates for 22 years.
  • Dumb and Drummer: Patrick, of course.
  • Facepalm: Plankton's reaction when Patrick pulls out his heart and SpongeBob asks Plankton if that's what he means by "deepest secrets".
  • The Ghost: Mr. Krabs is mentioned several times, but doesn't appear physically in this episode.
  • Glass-Shattering Sound: When SpongeBob sees Plankton stealing the Krabby Patty formula, he yells at Plankton through the microphone, causing loud feedback which shatters the bottle that holds the secret formula.
  • Lame Rhyme Dodge:
Plankton: Yes! The Krabby Patty formula is mine...uh, I mean, we'll have a great time!
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: SpongeBob hides Plankton from the cops by disguising him as a booger. After SpongeBob blows him out of his nose, Plankton tells him, "You will never speak of this to anyone!"
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title of this episode is a reference to the album Abbey Road by The Beatles. The title card even parodies the album's back cover.
  • Rapid Hair Growth: Patrick is revealed to have this ability, and to make it into different styles.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: When Plankton shows SpongeBob and Patrick the T-shirts he made with the band name printed on them, Patrick asks for a pink one, much to Plankton's annoyance. Because Patrick himself is pink, as he points out, it looks like he has a tattoo on his chest.
  • Sampling: The loud guitar sound SpongeBob makes when he suggests how the first song should go is taken directly from Prince's "Endorphinmachine".
  • Top-Heavy Guy: Squidward, of all people, after he goes through an intense training regimen to have his rock-star dream bod.
  • The Un-Reveal: We are given a brief glimpse at the formula. However, the ingredients are nonsense words comprised of random letters akin to something a frustrated person might type when banging on a keyboard.
