Karen 2.0

Original air date: 4/13/2012 (produced in 2011)

Plankton replaces his computer wife with a newer version only to learn that newer isn't exactly better.

Tropes in Karen 2.0 include:

  • Armless Robot: Plankton seems to have put general aesthetics over practicality as he forgot to give Karen 2 arms.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Karen stops the fight after Karen 2 accidentally runs over Plankton.
  • Bond One-Liner: Karen says this after destroying Karen 2.
Karen: No one... runs down my man!
  • Comically Missing the Point: This, when Karen is aghast to find she's being replaced by Karen 2:
Karen: After all I've done for you, you've dumped me for this cheap pile of plastic?!
Plankton: Well, I had to cut costs somewhere.
  • Disney Death: Karen shuts down after she saves Plankton from Karen 2. Plankton then takes Karen 2's battery out of her hard drive and puts it in Karen's to reboot Karen.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Plankton basically gets a newer "trophy wife" after his "divorce" from Karen. In another light, Plankton is upgrading his computer to a newer Apple product and throwing out his old one.
  • Everything Is an iPod in the Future: Karen 2 has a very sleek chassis, resembling an Apple product as her computer is far thinner than Karen's bulky box.
  • Fembot: The general design of Karen 2 in comparison to Karen's rail of a "body".
  • Hartman Hips: Karen 2 has a fine set of hips and backside.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: After Karen 2 accidentally runs over Plankton, Karen destroys Karen 2, but shuts down in the process. Fortunately for her, Plankton reboots her using Karen 2's battery.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Plankton had installed a jealousy scheduler and a molecular re-arranger ray into Karen, never realizing she would use both on him in retaliation at being replaced.
  • Hope Spot: Upon being told that Karen is taking over his job, Squidward thinks he's fired and is ecstatic over the idea of no longer having to deal with customers or SpongeBob. Mr. Krabs isn't firing him, though; he's just gonna have him clean the bathroom.
  • I Regret Nothing: Implied by Karen when she tries to attack Plankton in retaliation at being replaced:
Plankton: (terrified) Uh, let's not do something we might regret!
Karen: You should know, regret's the one thing you left out of my operating system!
  • Jerkass: Plankton and Karen 2, the latter thinking that Karen would give up after Plankton had become injured in their fight.
  • Killed Off for Real: Karen 2 ends up destroyed near the end, and with Plankton getting back together with Karen in the end, there's likely no chance of Karen 2 getting repaired.
  • Male Gaze: Karen 2 gets one of the fish to notice her curvy rear end:
Fish: ...my money's on the one with the chrome back side.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: By Karen prior to destroying Karen 2:
  • Skewed Priorities: Mr. Krabs doesn't care if keeping Karen at the Krusty Krab is a potential trick by Plankton, just as long as she's free.
  • Status Quo Is God: Is anyone surprised when Karen and Plankton get back together at the end?
  • TV Head Robot: Karen and Karen 2, who is more of a computer monitor-head robot.
  • Woman Scorned: Computer wife scorned for that matter. Karen did not take it well when Plankton replaced her with Karen 2.

InSPONGEiac

Original air date: 4/9/2012 (produced in 2011)

SpongeBob asks Patrick for assistance on falling asleep. Maybe he should have asked somebody else...

Tropes in InSPONGEiac include:

  • An Aesop: It’s important to get enough sleep.
  • Butt-Monkey: SpongeBob can't get to sleep, suffers hallucinations, and is humiliated at work.
  • Control Freak: Mr. Krabs
  • Department of Redundancy Department: When Patrick reads Spongebob "The Land of Perpetual Excitement", the first part of the story says "The sleepy little boy was the sleepiest boy in all of the kingdom."
  • Downer Ending: Played for Laughs. SpongeBob finally gets enough sleep, but he sleeps too long that he's late for work and cries, and is forced by Mr. Krabs to cry the appropriate mustard while Squidward watches with great delight.
  • Gone Horribly Right: SpongeBob finally gets enough sleep, but he sleeps too long and ends up being late for work.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: Of SpongeBob's tired and wrinkly eyes when he announces, "I AM an insomniac!"
  • Hallucinations: SpongeBob experiences these while staying awake.
  • Hourglass Plot: The episode begins with SpongeBob having sleep problems; in the end, now he sleeps too much.
  • Idiot Ball: Patrick of course. He really thought that Spongebob wanted to stay awake rather than go to sleep.
  • The Insomniac: Mr. Krabs falsely accuses SpongeBob of being this when he doesn't flip a Krabby Patty fully and uses a bit too muchnote  mustard.
  • Insomnia Episode: The episode is about SpongeBob trying to go to sleep.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Patrick really wants to help SpongeBob, but his methods only keep him more awake, as he thought his insomnia was to keep him awake.
  • It's the Best Whatever, Ever!: In the end, Squidward claims that it was the best day on work ever because he gets to see Spongebob being forced to cry out the mustard.
  • Jerkass: Mr. Krabs and Squidward.
  • No Sympathy: Mr. Krabs is this toward SpongeBob near the end, not even showing remorse for him that he slept too much, instead berating him for being late and only caring that he's now producing the right amount of mustard with his tears.
  • Ocular Gushers: SpongeBob sheds sprinkles of mustard tears after admitting he slept too late, which turn out to be just the right amount of mustard for the patties.
  • Rousing Lullaby: SpongeBob is trying to fall asleep so he can be fully rested for a day of work at the Krusty Krab. When he can't fall asleep by himself, he goes to Patrick, who sings him a lullaby from his childhood. The lullaby is called "Get Up, Be Active!", which is all about being active instead of lying down, and gradually gets louder and faster. Unsurprisingly, SpongeBob doesn't fall asleep.
  • Serious Business: Mr. Krabs is furious with SpongeBob for using less than a hundredth of a percent more mustard than he should, as it will cause him to go bankrupt in just over four hundred years.
  • Swiss-Army Tears: Spongebob crying out the appropriate mustard.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Patrick. He tries to help SpongeBob to sleep well by telling him wake-up stories, singing wake-up songs, and making him drink coffee.
  • Very Special Episode: About insomnia.
