Girls' Night Out

Original air date: 11/4/2018

Sandy invites Karen and Mrs. Puff out for a night on the town, so the ladies decide to blow off some steam.

"Girls' Night Out" contains examples of:

  • Book Ends: The episode starts with Sandy as a microscopic amoeba. It ends with Sandy, Karen, and Mrs. Puff as microscopic amoebas in order to get some peace, only to have it crashed by SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs, and Plankton.
  • Brief Accent Imitation: Karen's impression of Mr. Krabs greatly exaggerates his sailor accent.
Karen: Plank-ter-ren, me old nemesis-ser! I've got good news-erer! I'm leaving town and going back into the navery, so I'm giving you me secret formuler-er-rer!
  • Broken Record: SpongeBob hears Mrs. Puff talking to Sandy on the phone and wants to greet her.
SpongeBob: Tell Sandy I said hi! Tell her I said hi! Tell her I said hi! Tell her I said hi!
  • Everyone Has Standards: Mrs. Puff is reluctant to prank SpongeBob, saying "He can't help he's insufferable." However, she starts to get a little too invested in the prank later on.
  • Girl's Night Out Episode: This episode centers around Sandy, Karen, and Mrs. Puff. Karen names themselves the "Gal Pals."
  • Got Me Doing It: Plankton catches himself talking in the same way as Karen after she imitates Mr. Krabs.
  • Larynx Dissonance: Mrs. Puff speaks in a deep male voice when she inflates—this is the first time she's done that since all the way back in Season 1.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: The girls put a VR helmet on SpongeBob while he sleeps to trick him into thinking he got his driver's license, and push him around in a shopping cart.
  • Motor Mouth: SpongeBob says "Tell her I said hi!" repeatedly and very fast.

  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Sandy, Mrs. Puff, and Karen disguise themselves as Mr. Krabs to prank Plankton. He ends up falling for it.
  • Running Gag: Karen's screen flashing the words "Gal Pals!"
  • Shout-Out: Karen's "Gal Pals" screen looks similar to the BBC Video logo from the 1980s.
  • Slasher Smile: Mrs. Puff sports one while she's tricking SpongeBob into believing he's driving a car.
  • Split-Screen Phone Call: Happens when Sandy calls Karen and again when she calls Mrs. Puff. Doubles as a case of Breaking the Fourth Wall as Sandy creates the split-screen.
  • Your Makeup Is Running: Mrs. Puff's mascara runs after she finishes crying over SpongeBob driving her crazy.
