     2008 Let's Play

     2018 Let's Play
  • Running Gags:
    • Chugga running low on inventory space.
    • Chugga speeding through the Camera Man's text every time he shows up.
    • Chugga being self-conscious about the way he pronounces "hamburger", and getting annoyed whenever the Hamburger item shows up.
    • Getting interrupted by phone calls from Dad.
    • The prayer ability constantly backfiring horribly on Chuggaa whenever he uses it.
    • Jeff's face getting obscured during Photographs. Even his ghost gets covered.
    • Ness getting Smash attacks that defeat the enemy before he has a chance to show/explain what they do.
    • The fact that he always seems to be homesick when he decides to call his mother.
    • "Say it with me...'In Japan...'"
  • Episode 1: Second Impact
    • Choosing for "Beeeef" to be his favorite food in the game because there were enough characters to extend the word. In-game, Chugga headcanons it as a childhood pronunciation that people make fun of to this day. Similarly, changing his "favorite thing" from the default "Rockin'" to "Rollin'".
    • Picky blocks Chugga from leaving his house, leading Chugga to assume that he's so lonely he won't let any company leave.
    • The animations as Pokey harasses the cops are interpreted as "humping the sign and shoving his gut in the face of the officers over and over again".
    • Chugga jokes that coming back home to Ness' mother is scarier than anything outside, due to her blank happy face.
    • Tracy calls the strange knocking at the door annoying, and Chugga says he knocks that way... and then realizes that makes *him* annoying.
    • Just after the dog joins the party and they're about to leave, the phone rings. Chugga snarks "What, did the phone want to come, too?"
    • When Ness' father (on the phone) says he is behind Ness 100%, Chugga jokingly takes it to mean that Ness' father is Pokey, the person currently behind Ness in the literal sense.
  • Episode 2: Onett for Life
Woman: "Kids can borrow only maps at this library. Do you want to borrow one?"
    Chugga: "Nnaaah."
Woman: "A man without a map isn't popular with the girls. Do you want one now?"
    Chugga: "No." *Selects no"
Woman: "A man without a map isn't popular with the girls. Do you want one now?"
    Chugga silently hits no.
Woman: *Sounding much angrier through Chugga's voicing* "A man without a map isn't popular with the girls!.. Do you want one now?!"
    Chugga: ".... K."
  • Episode 5: Showing Officer
    • When voicing the Exit Mouse parent, Chugga attempts to go for a sort of Eastern European accent a la An American Tail. Instead, he ends up sounding like Mario.
    • Moments later, he encounters a Ramblin' Evil Mushroom; since he just left the mouse house, he accidentally calls it a "Ramblin' Evil Mouse" and doesn't even realize it.
Caption: My reading comprehension just goes down every year, doesn't it?
    • Earlier in the episode, Chugga draws special attention to the strategy guide that usually comes with all EarthBound copies. He then proceeds to read each step that he's followed up to this point in a very calm and suave voice...that is until we get to...FIGHT THE POLICE!!!!!
  • Episode 6: Cycle Begins Anew
  • Episode 8: Oak Territory
    • The fact that the episode was accidentally uploaded in full at 11:30 PM EST of the same day as Episode 7 instead of being properly scheduled for the 5 PM EST. Rather than, say, take the video down, Chugga just unlisted the video and let Twitter viewers and the people who had notifications turned on see the episode early.
  • Episode 9: Blue Scene of Death
    • The pun in the title of the episode.
    • Chugga starting the episode in a calm voice that he thinks fits the mood of Happy-Happy Village.
    • His description of the Sand lot bat:
"When you're gonna hit people with this, you're gonna be killing them, smalls."
    • Chugga cracking up when Ness's Dad calls telling the player to take a break, and going on a tangent about how much he loves restore points because they cause that text box to pop up in funny situations.
  • Episode 10: What's the Use of Feeling Blue?
    • Chugga is about to initiate the battle with Mr. Carpainter when he cuts suddenly away to Hotel Onett, even treating it as a "sponsored message," just to show off a line of text that can only be seen at that point in the game.
    • He also freaks out when he finds a line of text formatted wrong when he visits the Hint Man. It's funny just how excited he gets over the whole thing.
Chugga: "The text isn't formatted properly! That's supposed to be a line break where that dot is! [Beat] WOW! I feel accomplished, I discovered something probably very remote!
    • Chugga's angrish when Mr. Carpainter gives him the key to free Paula... only to see that, yet again, he doesn't have the inventory space.
    • This exchange when he talks to Pokey after defeating Mr. Carpainter,
Pokey: "Hah! I lied! See you, sucker!"
    • After Paula joins his team, he exits the cabin while gushing about the teddy bear she has, and gets attacked by a Spiteful Crow.
Chugga: "I'll tell you right away, I'm glad I met a lady who has the same good taste in items that I-" (He turns to the side, and a Spiteful Crow back attacks him, giving it the first attack) "WHADDAYA MEAN THAT'S A BACK ATTACK?"
  • Episode 11: The Second Step
    • In the recap of the previous episode, he drops this gem:
"We took down Carpainter, the head of the twisted religion that was Happy-Happyism, and obtained ourselves... another backpack. And her name is Paula."
    • When resting to heal up in the blue cow house, Chugga says that all fathers want to "pinch your cheek and make bad jokes with you far into the night." He then goes on to think that every dad who has had their kid leave home dreams of doing, and thinks it's a little sad, because he might have to do it in the future.
    • When calling Mom in the drugstore, Chugga enters Ness' persona and gets embarrassed when Mom says she heard he got a new girlfriend. He even goes as far as to whisper, "Mom, she's standing right here!"
    • Chugga drops a little Fire Emblem Awakening reference when he goes to give the Fry Pan to Paula:
      • Directly after, he finds out that even Paula had already maxed out her inventory. Already. And then he lampshades it.
    • Chugga's big "WHAAAAT?" When Paula gets rid of a status ailment just after she gets it in a fight with Mr. Batty and its cohort.
    • His accidental pun when discussing if the Mole-Playing Rough or the Mr. Batty is the worse baddie.
      • Immediately afterwards, he goes back in slow motion and zooms in on the enemies that were in front of him, and we see that a Mr. Batty literally spawns from the ass of the Mighty Bear that was there. It's even better because you hear his slowed-down voice talking about his "sick-sense of humor."
    • Chugga speculating why he was afraid of bears as a child.
    • When fighting the boss of the second “Your Sanctuary” location:
“With the introduction of Mondo Mole! Every enemy in this area has begun with the letter M! I doubt that it was intentional, but I’m a geek so I like to think about it anyway!
      • And then immediately, after he auto-wins the fight, goes on to explain how it could could be unsatisfying to do so, and, using a separate restore point where Ness is a little weaker, he says he wants to fight him “MOLETIPLE TIMES!
  • Episode 12: Death Parade
    • The title itself is funny because he goes out of the way in the episode to show what happens when either Paula or Ness are dead in the party. It even says “We see what happens when one of the duo is alone!” in the description!
    • Chugga puts the Pencil eraser back in his inventory and uses it on the cow to show yet another unique line of text, giving us this:
Chugga: [Standing behind the cow] “To think it’d be a great idea to shove it up the cow’s-!” [Text box with unique text pops up] “(reading) You can’t use the Pencil eraser. [Beat] Curses, foiled again.”
    • Ranting at the postcard girl after she apologizes to him.
    • He purposely gets Paula killed, so he can “bring her parents back the ghost of their dead daughter." He says this in a cheery tone, no less. (He actually does it to show how different people react depending on who is in the party, and their status, but still!)
    • He fight an Unassuming Local Guy to try and show off his move set, but it instead attacks him five times in a row without showing its other move. This prompts Chugga to say, “And they can attack you which is very weak, and they can… Attack you which is very weak, and they can…” over and over again, eventually saying it five times before he has something else to talk about.
    • He takes a stab at the American Healthcare system when trying to revive Paula:
Chugga: “Eagleland is a fictionalized America. No universal healthcare. You gotta pay money if you want to get your party member back. And, like the bad design of American hospitals, they don’t have the common courtesy to at least stick ATM's in their hospitals if they’re gonna charge you for everything.”
      • And then he refers to Canada actually having universal healthcare, even calling Canada “Moose Land.” Too bad Jon wasn’t there…
    • Chugga being completely oblivious until post-editing that the Hand-aid he never actually used in any of his playthroughs (due to it being a unique item he saw sentimental value in) is actually a free revive! He even adds his “D’oh” sound effect to drive it home.
    • Chugga trying to get with the edgy teenagers, saying that Nintendo of America had to have an “old enough protag.”
    • Chugga’s new voice for Everdred. Words just can’t do it justice. (He goes on to say he loves giving him the voice because his first name, according to Nintendo of America, is actually Al.)
    • Giving Paula a Mrs. Doubtfire-ish voice pretending to be Ness when Ness' Dad asks why he's “disguising his voice.” (It was actually Paula talking to Ness' Dad because Ness was dead in the party, so Chugga pretends Paula is trying to sound like her friend.)
      "Hello, Dad. It's me, Ness!"
    • Making Ness’ mom seem like the kind that shows her son's nude baby pictures to the girlfriend when he takes Paula to Ness’ house.
Chugga: Ooh, Ness has gotta be shaking and shivering in spirit, i'm gonna go talk to his momma and he's not there to rush in and stop the nude baby pictures!
    • His revenge plan if someone were to “kill him for the sake of comedy and then they were dead.” In context, it's to buy a pizza with their debit card.
    • His post-editing text wondering if he should laugh or cry when he remembers the exact price of a large pizza from Mach Pizza (It’s $238, for those who were wondering).
  • Episode 13: Runaway Bus
  • Episode 14: Parasite Threed
    • Chugga discusses the slogans for the SNES, Mother 2, and Earthbound. When it comes to discussing the slogan used by Earthbound, he simply says, "You know how the rest of the world thinks America's dumb? ...I'll leave it at that."
    • When Ness and Paula get trapped in the dark room in Threed, instead of progressing the game as intended, Chugga tries his own method of escape...
Chugga: It's okay, Paula. I came prepared. All that backtracking is about to pay off!
*Chugga uses the Exit mouse being held by Ness*
Game: (The Exit Mouse cannot do its job unless it is in a hole, cave, or some place with an exit!)
    • Chugga finds a teddy bear in a trash can right next to a building and is outraged to find out who would throw away a poor teddy bear.
Chugga: "There is a Teddy Bear Ins— Aww, poor thing- Who would throw you away?"
*Chugga Reads sign which displays that is the hint mans house.*
      Chugga: "The Hint Man!?"
  • Episode 15: Trail Goes Cold
    • Towards the end of the video, Jeff gets his first visit from the Photo-Man. However, Jeff's face is obscured by a leaf blowing in the wind.
Chugga: I'm getting Mike Wazowski'd, no!
  • Episode 16: Winter's End
  • Episode 17: Threed's Company
  • Episode 18: Saturn Based RPG
    • Chugga ends up finding the interruption from being called by Ness' Dad especially hilarious due to the sheer timing of it occurring right after he had just talked to a Mr. Saturn in a trash can. It's even more amusing because Chugga admits he had actually thought about how funny it'd be if it occurred in that exact situation.
  • Episode 19: Puking Blood
    • Declaring the Foppy to be a trope namer for enemies that are weak and exist almost purely for EXP grinding... And then a Foppy gets a SMAAAAASH attack on Jeff, rendering him unconscious.
    • The complete trainwreck of using pray in one battle. In order:
      • Enter the battle with Ness, Paula, and Jeff alive. Two Mostly-Bad Flies and one Slimy Little Pile.
      • Have Paula pray. Dazzling light, everybody in the party cries. Only one of three enemies cries, though.
      • Ness uses PK Rollin' Beta, defeats the two Mostly-Bad Flies. Slimy Little Pile lives.
      • Prays again. Heaven-rending sound, everybody feels strange.
      • Feeling strange, Jeff shoots himself and Ness uses PK Rollin' Alpha, rendering both Paula and Jeff unconscious. Cue an Oh, Crap! from Chugga.
      • Ness cannot hit anyone as he's feeling strange. Slimy Little Piles barf at each other and Ness, never dealing damage. All this time, Chugga tries to run from the battle... and repeatedly keeps failing.
Chuggaa: Ness, I know you are slow! But they’re piles of puke! I can’t imagine they got very strong feetsies!
      • One of the Slimy Little Piles successfully calls for help, bringing another one into battle. This prompts Chugga to ask if the situation can get any worse… and then Ness starts to feel homesick mid-battle.
      • Eventually (it took so long that Chugga cuts out several turns), a Slimy Little Pile bashes Ness and brings him out of confusion. After using a PSI Caramel to recover PP, he finally finishes off the piles with PK Rollin', but not before a fifth slimy little pile gets to join in.
      • The entire battle took several minutes and cost Paula and Jeff, all because of using pray twice!
  • Episode 20: Milky Way
    • The intro has him bring up the absolute disaster that was the last part.
Chugga: Last time… I don't wanna talk about it.
    • Chugga shares a story in the vein of his tales of how he sucked at Mario & Luigi, where he reveals that not only did he not use special attacks in Mario & Luigi sans boss battles, but he played Earthbound (and every other RPG!) like this too, including difficult parts such as the path to Milky Well.
    • Relaying a story that he told to ProtonJon about a guy online who didn't like Nopons. Long story short:
Chugga as Jon: MR SATURN IS NOT OVER THE TOP.
    • Early in the episode, Chugga decides to forgive Paula for nearly getting everyone killed with her Pray ability when he accidentally positioned her and Ness's sprites so that their noses are interlocking. He then decides not to use Pray unless he has no other option. Later in the episode, Chugga, once again, makes Paula use Pray for no apparent reason other than sheer curiosity. It revives two enemies he killed.
Paula, do you hate us?! Is this some kind of sick twisted revenge for me getting you killed and bringing back your dead body to your parents?!
  • Episode 22: In-Tents Nightmares
    • Chugga spends the entire episode showing off the Tent Glitch in the Threed circus tent. Hilarity, amazing reactions, and potential Nightmare Fuel ensue. note
      • A particularly amusing moment is when the glitch gets so strong that it propels Ness, Paula and Jeff all the way over to Jackie's Cafe in Fourside, a good 45 minutes or so further into the storyline. Chuggaa tries to get the party to escape into Fourside, only for the game to promptly issue a 'killing blow' once Ness opens the door, in the form of a very loud PSI Flash γ/Ω sound effect with the screen reduced to an odd flicker.
      • Also, for those paying attention to American politics, he notes that the glitch "really likes q", the same month as the QAnon conspiracy theory gets spotlighted.
      • After triggering the Jackie's Cafe teleport the first time, Chugga gives the typical outro and signs off...with five minutes left to the video. By the time he signs off for real, following the 'killing blow' that blanks the screen, all he can give is a little, "Bye."
    • The day after the episode, Chugga's Twitter was filled with retweets from viewers playing along with him and their glitches were way crazier. From extremely scary-looking Hardlocks to letting someone save into that corner, to maxing out their money, to, in one drastic case, propelling Paula to level 99, maxing all of her stats, and filling her inventory with Franklin Badges.
  • Episode 23: Dune and Dusty
    • His attempt to play the broken slot machine. Particularly how he managed to win a Chick his first go, and his attempt to get a PSI Caramel is foiled by "Tomas Jefferson"
Chugga: I have never hated American politics so much in my life.
  • Episode 26: The Fifth-Third
  • Episode 27: Evil Salesman
    • Chugga manages to get the 1/128 drop from the Musica, the Sudden guts pill, just after he finished explaining it and tells the viewers not to proceed with the story if they're going for every 1/128 item. He proceeds to have a Groudon-esque freakout over this.
Chugga: WHAT?! WHAT?! WHAT?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
      • He even lampshades how it happened right after he talked about the enemy having a 1/128 chance of dropping the Item.
  • Episode 28: When I Accidentally Stepped into an Alternate Dimension
  • Episode 30: Monkey on my Back
    • Chugga shows that one of the monkeys in the caves says "crap", then sticks his foot squarely in his mouth.
Chugga: Crap is interesting. (beat) ...that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. Crap was in a sort of transitional period at the time. (another beat) ...this is getting better with every sentence.
    • Chugga tells a childhood story of his when he first went through the Monkey Cave. His mother got so fed up with the music, and recognized Chugga was equally annoyed, so when she shut the door, she just immediately told him she felt sorry for him.
  • Episode 33: Coming Full Circle
  • Episode 37: Lifelike Exhibits
  • Episode 38: The Great, Mighty Poo
    • Chugga's story about a kid who went to his elementary school named Fucoy.
  • Episode 39: Kraken Open a Cold One
    • Chugga ends up running into the Photo-Man four times within the span of one episode. The first time is right at the beginning of the episode, as he exits the Fourside museum. Then a second time in Toto. When he reaches Dalaam, he triggers two photo spots (one outside the palace, and the other inside) within roughly thirty seconds of each other.
  • Episode 41: Desert Dash
    • Chugga relates the story about a recurring dream he had as a child. He found himself in a Middle Eastern country and married a woman who always wore a veil that Chugga could never remove. It wasn't until the end of the dream when Chugga was able to lift the veil and discover the woman was a tree. They had children, too.
  • Episode 48: We're Sort of Kings
    • Chugga has some post-commentary snark for himself when talking about the Military Octobot.
Chugga: I guess having an item stolen from you like a Brain Food Lunch would be probably be the worst thing that it could do to you...
Chugga, Post-Commentary: A Sword of Kings you hadn't equipped yet, did ya think of that?
    • When Chugga begins to explain a way to cheese grinding for the Sword of Kings, the Starman Super's 1/128 drop, he gets one on the first attempt during his explanation. This was his 16th Starman Super fought in this video, and of course, he proceeds to have a freakout over this.
      Chugga: "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
  • Episode 49: Social Studies
    • When Chugga tries to teleport, he ends up running into... nothing? When the smoke clears, it's revealed he somehow ran into a Magic Butterfly.
  • Episode 50: The Hole In The Hall
Chugga: Hello, you're all on your lonesome! You look like you'd make a-
Game: YOU WON! Ness and his friends gained 4587 exp each.
Chugga: …Fine trophy on my wall. I was going to say "you'd make a good guinea pig".
  • Episode 52: The Kid That Roared
    • After talking about how the Game Boy Advance port of EarthBound messed up the soundtrack, he plays some samples while putting text over the video to say what he thinks about them. The final text reads "I HIGHLY suggest turning down your volume for this next one.," which ends up being his freakout over getting the first Magic fry pan.
    • Chugga gets the Magic fry pan, a 1/128 item... Twice in a row.
    • Followed by a Double Subversion of his luck when he encounters a situation in the Lost Underworld that could potentially crash the game when he hadn't saved since getting the two Magic Fry Pans. He has an understandable Freak Out, but the game doesn't crash.
    • This episode was released after several days since the last upload, but not only that, but was delayed from its initial upload after the fact. According to his Twitter, this is because his scream of excitement alone at the double 1/128 items was so enthusiastic that it hurt his vocal cords and forced him to delay work on the footage and future recording so he could recover. If that isn't an indication of how charismatic Chugga can get, well, we don't know what is.
  • Episode 53: High In Minerals
  • Episode 54: I Magicant Even
    • Chugga attempts to use the For Sale sign, only to have the customer not able to reach him and chew him out for it.
Chugga: Sorry you didn't want my mad prices bad enough to shove your foot in my-
Immediate jump cut to Chugga returning to Tracy
Chugga: The sudden guts pill was a little tempting, but I'd rather have the free space.
    • Chugga sees a bunch of flowers with faces on them, and what's his response?
  • Episode 56: Darkness Falls Across the Land
    • Doubling as a Heartwarming Moment, Chugga shows what Dr. Andonuts says when you refuse to activate the Phase Distorter 3 after he puts the Chosen Four's spirits into their robot bodies. The first time is played for comedy, the second to show how the Doctor and Jeff have reconciled as father and son.
Dr. Andonuts: "...I see... Jeff! You do it!
      [Chugga hits No again]
Dr. Andonuts: "Oh, you lost your nerve... Ness! It is up to you!"
  • Episode 58: Walking Together
    • Mr. Carpainter getting stuck in the cow in Peaceful Rest Valley.
    • During the Shattered Man fight, Chugga tries to lose the battle by praying and have something go wrong. This time, praying heals Chugga's party and doesn't backfire horribly like it usually does, to Chugga's annoyance.
  • Episode 59 [True Finale]: Walking Toward The Future
  • Episode Tent
    Chugga: Tracy, SHUT UP!
    Tent glitch: K (loop ends.)
    • "Black Antoid got the Hall of Fame bat."
    • At one point, Chugga manages to open one of the debug menus and spends a great deal of time messing around with it. Hilarity ensues.
      • Chugga removing everybody from the party except Jeff, which, due to him not exactly knowing how the debug menu works, looks quite horrifying to see them all just vanish.
      • He enters the status ailments screen and picks a random option and applies it to Ness... which turned out to be diamondization.
      • He messes with the story flag settings and decides to enter the obligatory flag of 69... which happened to be the flag for the post-credits scene, and he proceeds to crash the game in a spectacularly violent fashion by trying to leave Ness's bedroom.note
      • Another time, he enters the flag of 64, and ends up... in the prayer cutscene, where Frank prays for Ness and his friends. Except the game doesn't warp him back to the Giygas fight—rather, it sticks on the screen, with only 4 pixels of actual screen showing through the filter to cause the circle effect. Eventually, Chuggaaconroy manages to go outside, and encounters a Mechanical Octobot (with text bugging out and dancing to the techno music). That's right. Chugga managed to fight an enemy, in a cutscene, in the final boss, from the tent glitch. Try wrapping your head around that!
      • Another time, he tries to test the sound test... and crashes the game by picking track 900. Out of the 001-192 ranges that are actually valid in the game.
    • Upon getting yet another long string of q's, a dramatic zoom onto Poo's face adequately describes Chugga's displeasure.
    • The very last attempt at the glitch opens a string of text promising something spectacular, before entering multiple loops of gibberish text and eventually crashing, providing an amusing and fitting end to one of Chugga's most beautifully bizarre videos.
  • Bonus Episode
    • Chugga actually got a response after sending in his postcard for the Mach Pizza contest. After a representative from Nintendo of America states in the letter how the contest and Nintendo Power have both ended, they mention that they left some consolation prizes for being a dedicated fan. They are bookmarks of Princess Peach and Skyward Sword Zelda. Chugga's enthusiasm is somewhat toned down when he realizes that he probably got bookmarks of Peach and Zelda because they misread his name as "Emily" instead of "Emile".
    • Also fairly amusing is the fact that the response letter contained a plug for the Nintendo Power Podcast, leading many to quip that Emile waited nearly the entire Let's Play to get a response, and instead got an advertisement and his name misinterpreted again.
    • The Stinger:
Chugga (being filmed by Stephen): So now that there's been a facecam in this series, does that make this a live-action reboot?
      Stephen: No.
