"Freedom ain't free. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

Sonic the Hedgehog: Make America Great Again is a bizarre Crossover Troll Fic written by Americaversewarlord. Despite what the title says, it has almost nothing to do with the Sonic the Hedgehog series and features its characters In Name Only.

Sonic is re-imagined as a badass American warrior fighting to free the Americaverse from the clutches of the diabolical Communist Empire. Along the way he forms a team of like-minded patriots called the "Neo Biker Brethren", and they make it their mission to defeat the most evil Communists of them all: the dreaded Backstreet Boys.

It's pretty lengthy, clocking in at over 120 chapters shared between both fanfics as of early 2018. The story evolves considerably across its run, becoming incredibly dark while still keeping its signature So Bad, It's Good humor. It's something that must be seen to be believed.

Currently available on both fanfiction.net and Archive of Our Own. The story is a direct sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog: Defender of America, which can be read here. There's also an animated version of one of the chapters made by Dorkly that's worth checking out.

''Sonic the Hedgehog: Make America Great Again'' provides examples of:

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Sonic's electric guitar. It's just as good at cutting things as any sword, if not better.
  • Action Hero: Pretty much everyone is one of these. You'd have an easier time trying to count the characters that don't actually fight!
  • Action Prologue: Both the original and the sequel start with Sonic gunning down an army of Communists.
  • Affably Evil: Larry the Cable Guy genuinely cares for his men and always acts politely to his friends and his enemies. Whether or not this is all just an act is up for debate.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Steve Buscemi seems pretty jealous that Alex Jones can transform into a Magical Girl but not him.
  • Anti-Hero: Both Sonic and Trump count, with Sonic being on the more heroic end of the scale and Trump being more Axe-Crazy.
  • Arc Number: 1488.
  • Arc Villain: Brendan Fraser becomes one during the "Terrordome" storyline.
  • Artificial Limbs: Sonic and Garfield have artificial dicks that double as machine guns. Donald Trump also has the ability to create these using his Drive powers.
  • Badass Crew: Both versions of the Biker Brethren.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Trump is never seen without one of his fashionable suits and scarves. During the Facebank arc, Sonic and Darkley adopt one as well.
  • Badass Preacher: Jimmy Neutron is both an ordained minister and a badass, cane-wielding pimp.
  • Band of Brothers: Both versions of the Biker Brethren. The Backstreet Boys could be counted as a villainous example of this.
  • Bash Brothers: Sonic and Donald Trump.
  • Big Good: Abraham Lincoln.
  • Blood Knight: Donald Trump lives for the thrill of battle and seems to enjoy killing Commies a little too much, to the point where he would probably be a villain in any other story.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Alex Jones. Sonic and Trump have shades of this as well.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Charles Darkley.
  • Canon Defilement: Played for Laughs. Good lucking finding anyone in the story that actually acts like they should.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: The story gets noticeably darker after Michael Jordan's death and stays that way for the rest of the fic.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Method Woman and Trump to a lesser extent.
  • Commie Nazis: All of the Nazis are portrayed as being a subset of the Commmunists rather than their own thing.
  • Cybernetics Eat Your Soul: Implied to be the real reason for Larry the Cable Guy's insanity.
  • Cyborg: Larry the Cable Guy, Garfield, and Charles Darkley have all had extensive cybernetic enhancements.
  • Demonic Possession: Larry the Cable Guy hijacks Charles Barkley's body after being killed Crazy Frog.
  • Demoted to Extra: The Wu-Tang Clan in the sequel.
  • Determinator: One of Sonic's defining traits. Even after being impaled by Garfield and losing both of his arms, he still refuses to give up fighting.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: Larry the Cable Guy is one to Fidel Castro.
  • Dirty Communists: The main antagonists of the story.
  • Driven to Suicide: Bugs Bunny shoots himself shortly after being resurrected by Brendan Fraser.
  • Eagleland, Flavor 1: The fic takes place in an exaggerated, utopian version of the United States.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Adolf Hitler's true form is one of these.
  • Elemental Powers:
    • An Ice Person: Snow Miser can turn anything he touches into ice and snow.
    • Playing with Fire: Donald Trump's cybernetic implants allow him to control fire at will.
    • Weather Manipulation: Crazy Frog's Patriotic Drive allows him to influence the weather and create natural disasters.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Sonic unlocks his Patriotic Drive powers right before Brendan Fraser's ghost warriors can kill his friends.
  • Enemy Mine: Sonic and Charles Darkley team up to defeat the Backstreet Boys in the Facebank arc.
  • Enemy Within: Sonic has the spirit of none other than Big Bad Adolf Hitler inside of him. He can usually keep him under control, but he's been known to completely take over his body from time to time.
  • Evil Is One Big, Happy Family: The Backstreet Boys. Until they learn Larry's true motives, at least.
  • A Father to His Men: Larry the Cable Guy to the Backstreet Boys. He even refers to them as his children.
  • Foreshadowing: Pretty much everything that Method Woman says hints at future events.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Harlem Globetrotters.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Donald Trump joins up with the good guys after Americageddon.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Practically every major character death in the series is one of these. Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Winnie the Pooh, Guy Fieri, Richard Nixon, Snow Miser, and Steve Buscemi all give up their lives this way to save their friends.
  • Hot-Blooded: The whole story runs on this. As far as characters go, Alex Jones is practically personified by it.
  • Loves the Sound of Screaming: Trump loves nothing more than the sounds of death and destruction.
  • One-Winged Angel: Most of the major villains can transform into one, including Taylor Swift, Brendan Fraser, and Mark Zuckerberg.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Pretty much all of the main characters are one of these.
  • Pimp Duds: Count Chocula wears a garish pimp suit that compliments his flamboyant personality.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: All of the Anne Frank androids seem to be indistinguishable from actual humans. They're even capable of giving birth.
  • Running Gag: The number "1488" appears in almost every chapter.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Patriotic Drive powers that the heroes use are very similar to Stands from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. They're even named after music.
    • Several chapters reference MDE skits. Count Chocula in particular is an expy of T-rex from World Peace.
    • Chapter 15 mentions that Adolf Hitler is capable of using Haki.
  • The Underworld: McTartarus, which is located somewhere in the bowels of Hell.
  • United Space of America: The Americaverse is a literal example of this.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Larry the Cable Guy shares the exact same goal as Sonic. The only difference between them is that Larry's idea of ending the war involves destroying all life in the universe.
