Junior Gala is a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic webcomic created by Kaemantis (otherwise known as "Frog" for her ponysona), who receives help from her wife Bizerbit on world-building and lore. It's notable for being set in an Alternate Universe where certain aspects of characters, lore, and events have changed. Although the comic is ongoing, Kaemantis has also submitted various works on her DeviantArt page that provide more information on the JG 'verse. You can read the first page of the comic here.

Take note: This page refers not only to the comic pages released so far, but also the Alternate Universe it's set in.

Junior Gala provides examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Babs and Trixie both suffered this. Diamond Tiara's stepmother is emotionally abusive.
  • Acrofatic: The portly Truffle Shuffle seems to have no trouble keeping up with athletic Scootaloo.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Played With in general. Since ponies are drawn in anthro form, some are given more attractive features. Meanwhile, non-pony characters are drawn more realistically, making some look "uglier."
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Apple Bloom here rarely smiles and is a lot colder in general (though her devotion to her friends and family still remains).
    • It's not as obvious but as a teen, Scootaloo goes around as a pseudo-gang leader, punishing "bullies" for their actions...except some of them actually grew up and regret what they did; since one of those ex-bullies is Silver Spoon, Sweetie Belle's girlfriend, Scoots ends up straining her friendship with Sweetie.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Twist loves calling Babs, "Babthie." Babs in turn calls her "Squeaker". And they both end up calling adoptive daughter Pepper Peppy and Baby Bird.
  • Age Lift: Plenty of this. Babs is roughly 5 years older than the CMC. AJ and Rarity are a few years younger than the other Manes. The Cake twins are lifted to the CMC's age. And Plaid Stripes was promoted to adulthood.
    • Inverted for Tootsie Flute who is made years younger than the CMC instead of their agemate.
  • All Gays Love Theatre: Sweetie and Silver adore showtunes.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: Zesty's wife Foto Finish is amused by the fact their daughter Minolta looks like them. Thing is, Minolta is adopted and actually being related to them is a genetic impossibility.
  • The Atoner: Babs, eventually. Also Sunset Shimmer.
  • Author Avatar: In-universe, Frog (and to a lesser extent Chuuko, Sensei and Boots) for Kae.
  • Battle Butler: Sticker Shock for the Silvers.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Claude doesn't take kindly to any sort of mistreatment towards his sister.
    • Big Sister Instinct: Rarity and AJ are among the adults looking for the kids in the woods as is Silver Strings/Octavia, beloved big sister to Silver Spoon.
  • Big Little Brother: Royal Pain to his adoptive Hippocampus sister Arpeggio Dapple, who due to Bizarre Alien Biology, ages much slower than him and resembles a dainty filly well into his adulthood.
  • Bully and Wimp Pairing: Babs and Twist.
  • Carnivore Confusion: Averted. The Hippocampi are obligate carnivores and don't pretend to be otherwise, even in pony form.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Homosexual coupling is unremarkable in pony society.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Two words. Cayenne. Pepper.
  • Clashing Cousins: Babs regularly terrorizes Apple Bloom and her friends, in fact, it’s the first thing we see her doing in the comic.
  • Cool Big Sis: Rarity for Sweetie, AJ for Apple Bloom, Octavia for Silver Spoon
  • Cool Old Lady: Foto Finish and Zesty Gourmand. Toots certainly thinks so, especially in the case of the latter.
  • Cool Uncle: Dandy for Minolta, Claude for Twist. Sweetie Belle ends up a Cool Aunt to the youngest of the Rarijack brood, mostly because she can spoil her rotten.
  • Curse Cut Short: Rainbow Dash in one panel of the comic, since Scootaloo and Truffle are in the same room.
  • Disappeared Dad: Twist was abandoned by her father Briar; Babs and her father Troubleshoes don't know about each other until she's in her 20s.
  • Eccentric Mentor: Vinyl Scratch for Silver Spoon.
  • Embarrassing First Name and Embarrassing Middle Name: Barbara Millicent Seed.
  • Enfant Terrible: Young Sunset Shimmer earned her infamy by mutating into a demon and trying to kill Celestia.
  • Eye Scream: Tempest Shadow, Foto Finish, Noteworthy and Sticker Shock all took damage to an eye.
  • Face of a Thug: Claude may be a Perpetual Frowner, but he really has a soft spot deep inside
  • Fantastic Racism: And plenty of it; for example ponies look down upon mules, whether or not they like to admit it. Furthermore any creature, sentient or otherwise, that has no nation is considered an animal.
  • Good Parents: You can bet that any parent who genuinely cares about their kid is like this.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: Mules don't really fare well in pony society (see Fantastic Racism).
  • Happily Adopted: Scootaloo by Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash, Lyra by Fred and Concerto, Starlight Glimmer by Chrysalis, the Shadow Five by Sunset Shimmer. Adagio and Sunset also have Snowshine, a Hippocampus filly that by all accounts, should be long dead.
    • In the next gen, Babs and Twist adopt a Pegasus filly named Sweet Pepper and a Unicorn colt named Candy Striper who happens to have had his horn torn off during the birthing process, Apple Bloom has Arpeggio Dapple, a Hippocampus daughter as well as stepson Royal Pain and Sweetie and Silver Spoon have Silver Bones, a young griffin.
  • Handicapped Badass: Everyone under Eye Scream counts as does Snowshine, who is not only crippled but also albino and Candy Striper who is genetically a Unicorn but had his horn torn off during the birthing process meaning he can't use his magic.
  • Hates Being Nicknamed: DON'T refer to Alesta Grandeur as Zesty Gourmand. She does however enjoy being called "Chef" by granddaughter Tootsie.
  • Heroic Bastard: Royal Pain is the result of Diamond sleeping with an unknown stallion; despite this, he's a total sweetheart and one of the nicest characters in JG.
    • Heroic might be a stretch but the Riot, Adagio's daughters who chose to come live peacefully (so to speak) with her instead of fighting to the death as is normal for Hippocampi (consisting of Duet Cascade, Madrigal Glory/"Mads", Toccata Daze/"Toca", Allegrezza Allure/"Grits" and Messa di Voce Grace/Messa and viewable here), have never met their biological fathers and never will.
  • Hidden Depths: Silver Spoon is an amazing pianist, Diamond Tiara is a stellar vocalist and Babs is kind to animals, especially cats.
  • Homosexual Reproduction: While many of the same-sex couples adopt their children, Twilight can perform an egg-splicing spell that produces only daughters.
  • Kick the Dog: Briar blames his wife and sickly daughter for the loss of his dream project. This is despite the fact they had nothing to do with it and that the latter has no control over her condition.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Babs, as shown here.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Silver Spoon, whose best friends are her much older sister and the Battle Butler.
  • Love Redeems: Twist may have helped Babs to try to be a better pony in her adult life. Similarly, Sunset both romantically and platonically helps redeem the Sirens.
  • Loving Bully: Diamond Tiara is this for Apple Bloom ‘’full stop.’’
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: The rambunctious Scoots and the meek Truffle during their childhood.
  • Morality Pet:
    • Twist is this to her "Babthie". She is later joined by their adoptive kids Pepper and Candy.
    • Sunset becomes this to the Dazzlings.
  • Only Known By Her Nickname: Silver Strings/Octavia is either called "Octavia", most of the cast, or "Strings", by Silver Spoon. Her niece Silver Belle is really only known as "Bee" (both due to being a recessive Pegasus and for her affinity with things like wasps and bees).
  • Parental Abandonment: Young Sweetie's parents leave her alone for large swaths of time, ultimately leading Rarity to obtain custody of her sister. Also played with in Foto Finish's raising of Bonbon.
  • Practically Different Generations: It’s Justified here, since Minolta was adopted by Foto Finish when her biological daughter was already an adult with her own child, so there’s a bigger age gap between them.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: One thing you'll notice is that a lot of the couples here didn't even interact in the show! That being said, Kae still manages to make them work.
  • Promoted to Parent: Plaid and Saffron for Northern Song, AJ and Rarity for Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom, Trissie (Twist's mother) for Babs.
  • Puppy Love: Several relationships start early, such as Sweetie with Silver Spoon and Scootaloo with Truffle Shuffle.
  • Race Lift: Since there are only a total of three alicorns in the JG 'verse, Cadance and Flurry Heart are Pegasi here instead.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Sticker Shock can cook. Pipsqueak and Dinky's son Prettydig openly loves flowers and gardening and enjoys looking feminine despite being a cis male (albeit homosexual).
  • Related in the Adaptation: A lot of ponies here are made relatives. Aside from the usual relations given by Fanon (such as Derpy and Dinky), there's also...
    • Octavia and Silver Spoon, who are made sisters.
    • Foto Finish and Bonbon, who are made mother and daughter.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: Diamond Tiara and Spoiled Rich go from biological daughter and mother to only being related by Spoiled's marriage to Filthy Rich.
  • Renaissance Man: Master chef, restaurateur, food critic and polyglot Zesty Gourmand.
