Odaliaverse is a The Owl House fanfic written by Exotos135.

The plot goes as follows: During the apocalyptic event known as the Day of Unity, one Odalia Blight becomes a casualty of the apocalypse by succumbing to the pain from the coven sigil mere moments after the event had been averted.

Then, one monologue from a mysterious figure later, she finds herself alive once more, back in her younger years before she got admitted into Hexside itself.

With this second chance at life at hand, and with the memories of her former self in her head, can she avert her eventual death several decades from now?

This story has examples of the next tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: The Blight family has them, naturally.
    • First is Odalia herself, who was a cruel, controlling businesswoman who micromanaged Amity's life, down to forcing her to dye her hair. The fact she was such a terrible mother is part of the reason why her counterpart wants to avoid going down the same route as her.
    • Odalia herself had to deal with these type of parents growing up; her mother wasn't around, leaving her with only her father, Oda Blight, who was a businessman with little in the way of paternal instinct, who molded Odalia into the businesswoman she became.
  • Adaptational Abomination:
    • Grometheus was an Eldritch Abomination in the main show, but he primarily took the form of a formless blob beast that took on the appearance of the Grom Queen and King's worst fears. In here, he's instead depicted as a sentient cavern with a heart inside it.
    • Likewise, Eda's Owlbeast form was already pretty horrific in the canon show, but in here, when a monster takes the form of it, it gains additional mutations as a result of the rest of the group going to help her, turning it into a monstrosity outright.
  • Adaptational Achilles Heel: Abomination magic was not shown to have many weaknesses in canon. In here, it turns out that, being the manipulation of a liquid, placing some liquid and then freezing it causes the freezing to spread to the matter, as proven when Emira spits on the goo keeping Edric and a Snaggleback in place, allowing her to thaw them out.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
    • Odalia is revealed here to have had her own batch of Abusive Parents to deal with; her mother left the house when she was born and her father, Oda, raised her to be more of a businesswoman rather than a mother.
    • Emira and Edric are implied to have been through something traumatic while trying to wield Abomination magic, when the two are fairly well adjusted in canon.
  • Adaptational Badass: Healing magic is given this treatment. In canon, it's only ever shown to heal wounds, with some degree of water control. In here, it also lets its users manipulate ice to an extent, and even manipulate a person's body like levitation provided they have water in their body.
  • Adaptational Context Change:
    • Ghost's Palisman status, due to the story being written before "For the Future" aired. In there, it's revealed that Amity tried to bond with Ghost like the other Palismans, while in here Ghost-the one from the new timeline at least-is a Family Palisman for the Blight family, who only becomes active when a worthy wielder is born, this one being Amity.
    • The reason why Emira and Edric were ignored in favor of Amity in canon was because they were delinquents who managed to get by just fine, and Amity showed better handling of Abomination magic. In here, it's because they tried both their parents' signature magic, but proved to be terrible at them, with their botched attempt at Abomination magic serving as the last straw.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Because of the way the time travel works here, several characters who only appeared in canon by the events of seasons 1 or 2 end up appearing decades earlier.
    • Alador and Darius are encountered by Odalia fairly early into her new life; she first meets Alador when both his family and her father meet with each other, and sometime after that she also meets Darius, who has yet to become the Abomination Coven head.
    • Eda and Lilith are met early in their Hexside years, long before the Owlbeast curse was placed upon the former, and Odalia makes sure to tell them about then when she gets the chance.
    • Shockingly enough, not only does the next human visitor after the Wittebane's brothers show up while Odalia is still a kid, but it's Camila, not Luz, who's the visitor in question.
    • The Titan reveals himself to Odalia when she ends up in the In Between Place upon dying at Grometheus' cave, when he wouldn't canonically reveal himself to anybody until Luz died during the final battle against Belos.
  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • A little bit more history is shed upon on the Blight family: in Odalia's case, she had a strict father who taught her how to be a businesswoman first and a mother never, and a mother who was never there during her childhood.
    • Chapter 13 features the history of Edric and Emira before the events of the canon show. As it turns out, they tried out both Oracle and Abomination magic, but they weren't very good in either, with the latter in particular being so bad it got them practically disinherited in favor of Amity.
    • Chapter 17 sheds a bit more of info on the Oracle track, at least the one from the Alternate Timeline. Those who are part of the track have the ability to see not only the future, but the past as well, an ability known as retrocognition, which also gives Odalia a potential out in case somebody wonders about her supposed knowledge of the future.
    • Also from Chapter 17, Glowing Eyes are revealed to be a potential sign that a witch is either a prodigy, or even a potential coven head. The reason for this revelation is because Odalia's eyes glowed blue while doing the crystal ball exercise, which caught Camila's attention.
    • As part of the timeline being slightly different, it's implied that not only is Azura real, but that there are certain beings before witches and demons who are known as the Primordial beings.
  • Adaptational Sympathy: Odalia is given this by a wide margin. While nobody, not even Odalia herself, will deny that she did terrible things and she deserved to die by the Day of Unity, it's shown that she wasn't born like this, but molded by both an uncaring father and a brutal world where she was never taught proper right from wrong. A discussion between prime timeline Camila and Amity even invokes the rousseau argument in her defense, claiming she wasn't born evil, but innocent and was turned evil by outside influences.
  • Aerith and Bob: With both the Blight families confirmed, the naming goes normal ones like Emira and Oda, slightly odd ones like Amity and Alador, and weird ones like Odalia, Edric, and Animalia.
  • Alternate Self: Not counting Odalia, just about every character present in the story is one, given that the story takes place in a different timeline's version of the Boiling Isles.
  • Alternate Timeline: The place where Odalia ends up at after being revived and sent back in time. For the most part, it's about the same as the previous timeline, but certain bits in later chapters imply things might've diverged at some point...
  • Arranged Marriage: According to Odalia at least, this was performed between her and Alador as a way to unite both the Blight and Artifice families together. Whether this is exactly what happened in both the current and previous reality, or if this is the memories of the previous Odalia clashing with her current one, is unknown.
  • Awkward First Sleepover: Chapter 19 is about Odalia having a sleepover with her timeline's version of Camila at her house, with her father being surprisingly okay with the idea. Not that it matters, since none of the activities the duo do actually make the sleepover worthwhile.
  • Back from the Dead: Odalia dies during the Day of Unity, only to be revived by an unknown figure and sent back in time to before she got admitted into Hexside.
  • Breather Episode: Chapter 19 deals with Odalia having her first sleepover with her world's Camila at her house, with the chapter coming right after a mysterious Abomaton enters the prime timeline's Blight Manor, and ends up possessing the corpse of Odalia Prime.
  • Calling Parents by Their Name: Odalia does this with her father sometimes, but only in her mind. Prime timeline Amity plays the trope much straighter, referring to Odalia exclusively by her name and no other title.
  • Cerebus Retcon: The twins being ignored in canon was because of Alador's neglect and Odalia's focus on Amity. In this story, they're ignored because they tried to learn Oracle and Abomination magic, like their parents, but they failed at using both, with the latter being so terribly done they were basically disinheritted as a result.
  • The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes: This happens to be one of the reasons why Edric and Emira were disinherited for Amity; their parents are part of the Oracle and Abomination covens, but their attempts at wielding either magic resulted in failure, with their attempt with Abomination magic serving as the last straw.
  • Crystal Ball: One of these is among the first things that Odalia spots when she first wakes up in the new timeline, which is one of the hints that this is her bedroom before she connects the dots. One of these is later used by Vice Principal Bump for a little exam for Odalia's classroom after Odalia knocked out the Oracle track teacher with an uppercut. And even later, Amity from the original timeline ends up using one of these in the hopes of discovering what magic she could learn as a secondary magic type.
  • Curse: The owl curse and what it did to Eda is among the things that the current Odalia ends up remembering/discovering because of the memories of the previous Odalia, so she decides to try and avoid that fate in order to get on her good side. She eventually manages to tell the truth to the Clawthorne sisters, but to her frustration, Lilith's the only one to take it seriously while Eda thinks it's awesome.
  • Disinherited Child: Edric and Emira are revealed to be this; while not outright disowned, both of them were denied the chance to lead Blight Industries once they proved to be terrible at both Oracle and especially Abomination magic.
  • Dimensional Traveler: None at the current time, but Eda's past as one of these using the portal door is among the memories the current Odalia inherits from old Odalia. And annoyingly enough, Eda focuses on that when Odalia reveals that she'll become this in order to run a dead end stand just to make ends meet.
  • Empty Chair Memorial: A variation, as the person isn't dead, just out of the picture; while sitting down at the dinner table her first day after being revived, Odalia notices a chair next to her with the name "Animalia" on it, which has her realize that's supposed to be her mother's chair, her mother having left the family after she was born.
  • Face Your Fears: This is the title of a chapter and the main point behind the Grometheus arc, involving Odalia's group heading into what seems to be a cavern in order to confront them and face their fears.
  • Fear Is Normal: This is the lesson that Grometheus tries to teach Odalia's group, that fear is inevitable and normal, and that trying to claim you're "Fearless" is an actual mistake. Odalia straight up admitting that she's scared allows her to get on the monster's good side and be spared from having her nightmare added onto the nightmare recreation of the Owlbeast.
  • Fountain of Youth: As a result of being teleported back several years into the past, Odalia's back to being a teenager.
  • For Want Of A Nail: While not brought up, Odalia ends up dying moments after the Day of Unity is averted, meaning she never gets to make her deal with The Collector.
  • Friendship Denial: Despite hanging out with her and treating her like she would any of her actual friends, Odalia's pretty adamant that she and Camila from the new reality are not friends, despite the latter's insistence. She eventually makes a Pinky Promise with her to eventually claim they're friends once they're close enough.
  • Genius Loci: Not counting the Corpse World that is the Boiling Isles itself, the story features another example in Grometheus, who not only is found in a cavern far away from Hexside, but actually is the cave, as he eventually reveals himself to Odalia's group.
  • The Hero Dies: The story starts because rather than surviving the events of the Day of Unity, Odalia dies and is reincarnated as a younger version of herself. She ends up dying a second death while trying to power up in order to fight a living nightmare created by Grometheus, but is revived by the Titan, who also instructs on what to do so she doesn't get killed again.
  • Ice Magic Is Water: Those who are proficient enough in Healing magic can morph the water they use, hardening it into ice and vice versa. Emira proves this by not only sending small icicles at Amity when she panics at the sight of Abomination magic, but also when she manipulates water during a short training and when she uses her spit to freeze and thaw out Edric and a Snaggleback.
  • I'm Melting!: After the Greater Basilisk has her stomach cut open and the magic of all the students returned, she still isn't dead. So Eda gets brought up to take care of her with a potion she created; one that she dumps down the monster's throat, causing her to melt to almost everyone's shock, except Eda, who looks at her handiwork with a smile.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite several changes in the Alternate Timeline, a couple of things are shown to still be the same as in canon.
    • Eda and Lilith still end up in the Potions track, Alador and Darius end up in the Abomination track, and despite her best efforts, Odalia still ends up in the Oracle track.
    • While the human is different and it happens way ahead of time, a human still ends up visiting the Boiling Isles during the current timeline. The Wittebane brothers were also the first humans to enter the Boiling Isles.
    • Odalia and Alador still end up meeting and becoming close while they're kids. Likewise, Alador still ends up developing a rivalry with Darius, though it happens offscreen.
    • Faust and Bump are still the Principal and Vice Principal of Hexside.
    • Emperor Belos still exists as the ruling monarch of the Boiling Isles. Although since Phillip is shown to be encased in stone, it's implied his brother became the emperor instead.
    • The Greater Basilisk still attacks Hexside, forcing a group of students to band together to get rid of her.
  • Magic Eater: Basilisks are also present in the new timeline, as proven by The Inspector/Greater Basilisk's presence.
  • Mental Time Travel: This is basically how the story happens: Odalia, upon dying after the Day of Unity is stopped, has her memories transplanted to a younger version of herself from another timeline.
  • Missing Mom: It turns out that Odalia had one of these back when she was younger, leaving her alone with her strict business-centric father as a role model. And unlike most stories, what happened to her isn't unknown: it's confirmed she straight up left after Odalia was born.
  • Morph Weapon: While facing off against the empowered Greater Basilisk, both Odalia and Darius show off the Abomination track's goo morphing abilities, first by using it to restrain the monster, and then having Odalia morph some goo into a knife to cut open the basilisk's stomach, releasing all the magic they ate.
  • Multiple-Choice Future: While dozing off on her thoughts, Odalia is asked by Mr. Rees, the Oracle track teacher, what he was talking about, the greenette tries to respond by saying she doesn't know in a bid to get out of the Oracle track. She's instead praised by the teacher for this exact trope, as despite what many Oracle trackers think, the future isn't a continuous thing, but has multiple variables, with every change changing the course of the future.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Once she pieces together what became of her situation, Odalia decides to use her second chance at life to make sure she doesn't repeat the mistakes of her previous lives.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Alador is only ever known as "Alador Blight" in canon, with no hints as to what his family name was prior. In here, the new timeline Alador has the family name "Artifice".
  • Noodle Incident: Chapter 13 has a moment when Emira and Edric explain their history prior to the events of the show. While we see their attempts to use Oracle magic, their attempt with Abomination magic was apparently so bad that Emira was left traumatizad, and made Amity the one to inherit Blight Industries.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Edric and Emira's attempt at Abomination magic was apparently so terrible, it not only traumatized the duo, but got them disinherited in favor of Amity, but we never hear what it actually entailed.
  • One-Word Title: Odaliaverse, naturally.
  • Past-Life Memories: Odalia naturally has these, being a time traveler from a previous reality, and she intends to use these memories to have a better life. The Greater Basilisk also has these when she gets brought back in time, meaning this trope isn't exclusive to Odalia.
  • Peggy Sue: The premise in a nutshell; Odalia is revived in the past just as she was dying due to Day of Unity-related injuries, and decides to use this chance to make sur she doesn't go down the same path that led to her death in the first place.
  • Pinky Promise: After claiming they're not close enough to be called friends, Camila asks Odalia for one of these, promising that once they get become close enough to be considered friends, she'll call her by her first name.
  • Reading Tea Leaves: Not actually done, but one of the items in Odalia's bedroom, which is one of the first things she spots, is a set of leaves and a teacup.
  • Redemption Quest: The story serves as one to Odalia, to an extent. With knowledge of her past life and all the pain and misery that befell not only herself, but her family, due to her actions, she decides to try and clean up her act so that her family can be a happy one for at least the current timeline.
  • Rousseau Was Right: The theory itself is actually discussed by Prime world Camila and Amity during chapter 11 after the former listens to the latter claiming Odalia was born evil. While Prime!Amity has their head spinning slightly by the end, Prime!Camila does manage to convince them to consider the fact that Odalia herself might've been an innocent child once upon a time.
  • Seers: Naturally, those in the Oracle track could be considered this. Both Odalias were part of this track, while the new Odalia decides to investigate some more about the track, learning a potential out for her situation: an ability to see the past, known as Retrocognition.
  • Secret Test of Character: Grometheus gives one to Odalia after the rest of her group go to help the Clawthorne sisters confront the owlbeast nightmare monster. He outright asks her if she's scared or not, and when she says yes with no hesitation, he claims she passed and allows her to leave the caverns to let her group deal with the nightmare beast. Odalia, instead, decides to go help them.
  • Sheathe Your Sword: This is what eventually allows Odalia's team to defeat the Nightmare Beast summoned by Grom; since the creature was summoned by Eda, who's secretly afraid of becoming the Owlbeast, and Odalia had earlier gotten on Grom's good side by admitting she was afraid, she realizes once she returns from the In Between place that if Eda admits to being scared of the Owlbeast, that will satisfy Grom and give them an exit. While Eda's reluctant at first, she eventually admits to the beast that she's scared of her, which causes the beast to dissipate and Grometheus to give the team a way back home.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: Odalia becomes one of these by the time the Hexside school year gets in session; first she tries to get Alador and Darius together as a backup plan should her and Alador not work out, and then decides to do the same with Raine and Eda after she accidentally meets the former and gets on their good side.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Emperor Belos is mentioned a few times through the earlier chapters, but he's out of the picture and the Emperor Belos from the new timeline is an entirely different character. But it's his plan that lead to the Day of Unity, and thus Odalia's subsequent death and rebirth.
  • Swiss-Army Superpower: Thanks to the fact that Ice Magic Is Water in this universe, Healing magic becomes capable of healing people, manipulating water, morph said water to solidify into ice, and even manipulate a person's movement so long as their body consists of a lot of water.
  • Taken for Granite: Like in the original timeline, Petrification is a punishment for wild witches who defy the rule of the emperor. Witches aren't the only ones affected, however, as Phillip Wittebane has been petrified for an unspecified amount of time in the deeper levels of the Emperor's Castle.
  • Taking the Bullet: While being scanned by Grometheus in order to get his test, one of his eyes nearly strike Lilith, only for Eda to push her out of the way and be hit instead, creating a monster based on her future Owlbeast form.
  • Try Everything: Odalia does this in order to try find a track to take that isn't Oracle, only to eventually settle for Abomination after meeting Alador.
  • You're Not My Father: Like in the main show, Amity has basically disowned Odalia as her mother, referring to her only by name and, before Camila came along, seeing her as an absolutely terrible person.
  • You Wake Up in a Room: When Odalia first wakes up after being revived and sent back in time, she's initially unable to recognize the room she woke up in until she takes a look around and finds an admittance letter to Hexside.
