JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 8.5 is an ongoing Alternate Universe Fic prequel to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part Nine: Stairway to Heaven written by Roam Home For Glory based on a hypothetical future for Jojolion. The story focuses on the mother of Joshua Joestar, Joan Joestar, the descendant of Josuke Higashikata "Gappy", in her teenage years in the year 4001, working alongside her teammates, the Pussycat Dolls to become the next Star of the World in order to prevent Testa Raven from reestablishing the title for herself once again to continue her tyranny.

Unbeknownst to them, there's an equally dangerous threat that's just as dangerous and it would shape their fates for the worse for the next decade to come.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 8.5: Rainbow In The Dark provides examples of:

• Absurdly Powerful Student Council: The initially seen Student Council of Expectations are extremely clingy followers of Wawei if only due to her natural charisma being a major asset for making the students obey them through her. In execution, Wawei is little more than an unwilling idol to distract the student boy with very little actual political power as the student council essentially brainwashes the students into being more obedient to the rules and the staff can't do anything to stop it before the Pussycat Dolls manage to finally defeat them. Slightly more justified as this iteration was backed up by Justiz Beliver who wanted to use them as secret agents posing as the student council in order to brainwash the future generation into eventually letting him become the ruler of England via popular vote. When this plan fails, he opts to become the Star of the World through the tournament instead.
  • The Pussycat Dolls who managed to succeed them as a part of their bet to get the group off their backs initially, play a much more benevolent example as they're portrayed as a Reasonable Authority Figure.
• Action Girl: Team Pussycat Dolls and their rivals, the Generation Girls, are training to be this, which they eventually do by the sequel, though Kashmir Harrison, Jobeth Joestar, Testa Raven, etc are well-established badasses.
• Battle Butler: North Lane is a punctual and loyal butler in spite of physically abusing his employers whenever they act improper- which is always Played for Laughs. Notably, he was raised into the role after being taken in by Jolly as a former orphan and pickpocket.
• Big Bad: Testa Raven, the leader of Team When You're Evil.
• Darker and Edgier: Compared to Jojolion, the Part is much darker in spite of its initial beginnings. The first true villain is a sociopath that hid behind the guise of a philanthropist before giving himself to be an even worse monster with connections to the original continuity. The Big Bad has reduced the world into a hellish environment for amusement and the Part ends in an unambiguous Downer Ending. Additionally, the main cast can be just as callous and brutal as the villains in previous parts, but only have slight standards that make them heroic compared to their adversaries.
• Connected All Along: Initially seen as a relatively inconsequential group of villains that pester the heroines before they face the more plot significant assassins, it's revealed that they're agents of the future initial Big Bad of Part 9, Justiz Beliver, who specifically targets them after foiling his initial gambit to be voted into power via the student council he established in order to get voted by the brainwashed populace.
• Curb-Stomp Battle: Occurs throughout the story as familiarity with Stand mechanics over the millennia has allowed participants to be Functional Genre Savvy about scenarios involving Stand users, usually figuring out the enemies' entire power-set over a few moments- leading to quick deals. Only the more plot relevant ones manage to circumvent this by being more creative with their powers to counter this.
  • North's assault on Paradise is a particularly notable example as he manages to wipe out Stands in moments that would take a regular protagonist several chapters to figure out and defeat. In his case, it's justified as he's a Stand user with an extremely diverse time-based Stand with multiple applications for each situation. It takes one of the true Big Bad's Praetorian Guard to finally stop North's high winning streak by unceremoniously killing him to hype up the true villains.
  • The fight beforehand with You Yes-Eyes gradually becomes this as none of the girls manage to do anything meaningful with the one that could ultimately forced it to become serious. It takes the sudden use of Imagine All temporality to put it down for good. An even more impressive feat as one was the same type of special Rock Human as Tooru who was unstoppable until the Go Beyond power was introduced]] and that of the posthumous Rock Human King that managed to wipe out the Higashikata family, forcing Josuke to evolve his Stand into Purple Rain Go Beyond in order to overcome the metaphysical nature of that Stand. Albeit, his powers weren't nearly as powerful in scope compared to his predecessors.
  • The fight between Kashmir and the three house guards of Dove's mansion has this for both sides in the first unseen half and the seen conclusion- the three house guards managing to disable the powerful Stand user offscreen with implied ease only for Kashmir to reveal her ability to swap timelines including ones to No-Sell her enemies' abilities- which she promptly does in one fell swoop to all three at once.
  • While not as effortless as North's attempts, once Joanna manages to get a hold over her Stand, they manage to make short work of the assassins, Architect Animals, Tin Way-Mouth, and Kodak Black fairly easily with their teamwork, only stopping when the latter's associate threatened a Colony Drop via an asteroid on the earth via his powers to force a ceasefire.
• Dark Is Evil: All of the Stands of Team When You're Evil have demonic appearances much like their Stand Users and revel in their villainy.
• Dark Is Not Evil: Joanna's Eidolon of Nightmare, is a scary looking Stand with an appropriately nightmarish power in literal terms and born through equally horrific means. However, she uses the darker aspects of the power solely on those who deserved it and repeatedly shown to be one of the more consistently altruistic members of the team.
• Diabolus ex Machina: Occurs frequently throughout the part.
  • North having easily defeating every agent of Dove he's come across- he would've easily resolve the initial arc with ease, had he not suddenly encountered Karneval Carnage- a powerful evil being not associated with Dove aside from wanting to meet with him to form an alliance between the latter and his boss and being capable of negating any of North's powers, bringing his rescue attempt to save Joanna to a sudden and brutally fatal halt.
• Downer Ending: While they prevent Testa Raven from resuming her tyranny, their final match is definitely postponed due to Joan and a few others of her team spontaneously becoming pregnant, leading to Justiz winning by default and starting a slightly less evil, but still tyrannical rule.
• Driven to Madness: The initial application of Mary Hale's Stand, T.F.D.C. is driving those bitten by the Stand into gradual suspicion then paranoia and finally an enforced Villainous Breakdown in which they become mentally broken. One such example occurred when she used it on the assassin, Kodak Black, who was reduced to acting like a rat when exposed to the power. Even after being returned to basic mental functions, he was noted to be never the same afterwards. Even Ronna considers this a Fate Worse than Death.
• Eldritch Location: The space between timelines that Kashmir is capable of accessing to switch between similar enough timeline, is an incomprehensible space filled with Eldritch Abomination that feed off of discontinued timelines that have changed their paths from the chosen timelines.
  • Westing Walter-House, the 1910s-style house of The You Yes-Eyes, a Humanoid Abomination that devours discontinued timelines and any unfortunate soul that happens to wander into the space between timelines. Its oddities include turning sepia monochrome whenever the resident of the house is gone, returning to its unusual color schemes whenever it returns, is home to Eldritch Abomination, and its attic has warped cartoonish distortions of regular furniture. Additionally the furniture can be manipulated to attack its victims. And it becomes odder with the revelation that the house and its resident are one and the same being, with its true identity being a Genius Loci that uses a humanoid avatar to make eating it's prey much easier.
• Expy: Much like the original manga, several characters take inspiration from pop-culture, notably music, though some more than others.
  • Franken Fruitful in both looks and personality strongly resembles Frank N Furter, though the former manages to somehow be more lustful than the latter.
• Fan-Created Offspring: Joan and Joanna Joestar are the great, great, great, great, great grandchildren of Josuke Higashikata.
  • A far more surprising case would be Ronna Brando, the descendant of Diego Brando who managed to be revived by one of the Guardians of the Corpse Parts shortly after his death in order to have descendants.
  • Erean Davis nee Floyd is one for Tooru, being one of his several Rock Human flings he had while still dating Yasuho, being a descendant of these affairs, with a desire to avenge her race's humiliation.
  • The first Star of the World is the son of Josuke Higashikata and Yasuho Hirose, the former renaming himself Jose Joestar after a traumatic event caused him to become reclusive.
  • The entire Higashikata lineage of the current time period of the story are descendants of Joshu Higashikata- renamed Norisuke Higashikata the V, and Karera Sakunami.
• From Nobody to Nightmare: The strongest male Stand user at the start of Part 9 was once a doting son and a withdrawn boy who seemed to never amount to much.
  • A son of low-born thug and a wealthy woman via rape who managed to acquire a means of immortality to eventually become The Man Behind the Man of Italy's most powerful Mafia in the previous universe and in the current events of the story, one of the most powerful crime lords in the world with his public guise as the samaritan, Dove Pale Will by surviving the reset He was so powerful that he was sought by the current Big Bad to be a member of her Praetorian Guard for his usefulness.
• Foregone Conclusion: As evident of Part 9, Justiz will become the next Star of the World and the initial Big Bad of the part regardless of what the girls will do. In spite of this, with his true plan unknown at the time, Justiz at his worst, is much preferable to Testa Raven. Which says a lot about the state of the world at this point.
• Fusion Dance: Both rosters Team Pussycat Dolls and Team Generation Girls are able to merge into a single girl, Theia Superstar and Mere Brooks respectively, who have Story-Breaker Power capabilities that make their impressive components' Stands seem meager in comparison. Much of the drama is pondering on their individuality following this change in their lives, whether they're now all aspects of one person or they and their fusions are their own persons who happen to share the same existence.
  • Other teams and Stand Users can do this with technology based on the Wall Eyes, but they treat their mergers as a technique as an advantage rather a philosophical quandary.
• Gender Bender: Ronna Brando was born as male, but changed genders permanently when reaching puberty. She initially takes issue with this before coming to accept this.
• Greater-Scope Villain: The Ocean Men who are manipulating Justiz Beliver to enact their plan are only hinted in this part before becoming the collective Big Bad Ensemble in the following part.
  • Intended recruit for Team When You're Evil, Dove Pale Will, is retroactively revealed to be the father of Diavolo who managed to survive into the new universe via swapping hosts with the implications he's much older than that. And And therefore is responsible for all of the evils committed Passione under Diavolo's reign.
  • The Rock Human King, a person from Josuke's extended backstory in the context of the narrative. He was the father of Tooru and therefore was responsible for the events of Part 8. His involvement in the story caused the creation of the current source of society's drastic development indirectly, caused Josuke to adopt the name Joestar- thus causing the return of the lineage to power, and is the source of why Erean wants revenge on humanity.
• Happy Ending Override: The Bittersweet Ending of JoJolion was turned into a Downer Ending within the backstory of the fanfic, with the Rock Human King aka Flashback Man having killed all of the Higashikata family except Joshu, leading Josuke evolving his Stand into one capable of overcoming the Rock Human King using his despair to enhance his Stand. Guilt ridden, Josuke abandons his claim to the lineage to retire to England with Yasuho and renaming himself, Jose Joestar, becoming a small-time doctor/hermit who wanted to avoid any confrontation, unlike his son who would become the first Star of the World.
  • Zigzagged in the case of Stone Ocean's ending. It is heavily implied Emporio's success over Pucci was never occurred in the events of the fanfic, but at the same time, Jolyne manages to defeat Pucci, but the events lead to the creation of Steel Ball Run's universe and her becoming the mother of the person heavily implied to be the Holy Corpse, who ended up being crucified, being resurrected, only to die in North America away from his homeland.
• Hope Spot: Occurs several points in the series.
  • During North's assault at Dove's research facility, Paradise, he was easily defeating any and all enemies he came across and was on the verge of completing his mission with ease. He then encounters Karneval Carnage, a factor he never anticipated as the latter was not a member of this facility as well as this individual being able to No-Sell any and all of North's Time Master powers. Thus, forcing the future Pussycat Dolls to take on his mission instead when he's killed.
• Humanoid Abomination: The You Yes-Eyes, a gentleman in a tuxedo with an exposed eyeball for a head with a Stand that takes the form of a red sentient tongue covered in eyes. The assumptions that it's a man in a costume are immediately shunned when it bleeds out dark cubes instead of regular blood, has to reverse leave a room to enter it, turn intangible, devour temporal energies to survive, shape-shift, shares a shared consciousness with three other bodies that each have their own Stands, which can then recombine into the original multi-eyed form with a singular Stand and is actually a humanoid avatar for a 1910s style sentient house in a extra-dimensional space between timelines.
  • Dove Pale Will is essentially at this point, a barely human soul attached to a unique stone called the Blue Stone of Aria, which allows him to take over hosts that he deems suitable and has managed to survive the universal reset done by Pucci due to this ability. One of his most notable hosts was being Diavolo's father. This possession leads to him not being entirely human such as his slower than possible movement while his mouth movements are off-synch with his speech. Downplayed with these aspects as the they are a forced attempt to act as someone of noble intentions that isn't natural for him as he's acts much less awkwardly in his true Card-Carrying Villain persona.
  • The Antimatter beings, most of which are only humanoid in the loose term of being bipedal at best, with some being much more human like aside from their drastically different colored skin than regular people. The trait they do share is the ability to phase through solid matter with the stronger members being capable to having attacks harmlessly pass through them and their ability to selectively make their contact filled with antimatter, causing the target to decay into antimatter particles. The more viler members combine this with the act of forcibly violating their victims while rotting them with their antimatter touch.
• If It's You, It's OK: For both Team Pussycat Dolls and Team Generation Girls, the girls all around romantically involved with one another. The only exception being the boy Lennon Harrison due to Theia Superstar loving him and Felixa having a boyfriend, which given how the teams' respective fusion works, means they also love this respective person as well.
• Karmic Rape: Avoid, a Serial Rapist, and a member of Dove's Praetorian Guard decides to rape Nabuna, who had been a victim of an Attempted Rape in the past. When she turns the tables, she decides to repay the favor by raping him in turn before subjecting him to a Cessation of Existence.
• Only Sane Man: Several characters have more lucidity more than their oddball companions.
  • Joanna is constantly exasperated by her team's eccentric natures while Summer being the newcomer to Stands in a world that has long been accustomed to the concept at this point over nearly thousand years, is often in shock due to the extremely unusual elements of their world. Both eventually embrace the weirdness with stride eventually.
• The Plot Reaper: Happens to characters that manage to be too much of a threat at the time or would render the concept meaningless with their involvement.
  • North Lane with his versatile Time Master powers and innate ability to manhandle Stands by his own physical power alone, would've essentially ended the initial conflict easily as he was steamrolling through the enemies with ease- with the intent on doing the same to Dove himself, and utterly nonsense in battle- swiftly defeating enemies before they had a chance to retaliate. Naturally, he had to die in order for the girls to get involved at the hands of one of the true Big Bad's top agents.
• Plot-Relevant Age-Up: The Pussycat Dolls separately undergo through as they undergo their personal trials to improve themselves- drastically aging into their late teens/early 20s as their Stands evolve into more combat-efficient forms. It's heavily implied North's time Stand is operating In Mysterious Ways to get this done. It also coincides with their Character Development- becoming better people as a result.
• Progressively Prettier: Noted in-universe, certain characters become gradually more attractive or adorable over time.
  • Leone Abbacchio in his current incarnation, starts off as an eerily accurate depiction of the seven-eyed, seven horned lamb as described in the Book of Revelations before he immediately becomes a cute Mon that stands on two limbs by the time he helps North invade Paradise. He himself lampshaded the inexplicably sudden change.
• Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: While JoJo villains often do horrible things to women, the new continuity allows for more blatant Attempted Rape moments, and this Part shows the act in full, demonstrating how vile the new villains are in comparison to their predecessors.
  • Kilin Inzana Moph is established to be a truly vile monster by attempting to force himself onto the then 14 year old Nilly before being stopped by another man...only for Kilin to force the man to watch as he rapes the latter's wife. Thankfully, Nilly evolved her Stand in time to stop him before he could do any reparable damage.
  • Avoid, one of Dove's Praetorian Guard, in spite of his young appearance, is a 200 year old Serial Rapist who targets Nabuna, deliberately because she both hates and fears men due to her past trauma, going as far as raping her with the attempt to eat her alive in the act of doing so. Needlessly to say, when Nabuna evolves her Stand to curb stomp Avoid, his Karmic Rape at her hands before she subjects him to a Cessation of Existence is more than justified at that point.
• Romantic Fusion: Both Team Pussycat Dolls and Team Generation Girls are able to fuse into a single fighter respectively. The respective teams' roster are all romantically involved with their respective partners.
• Sacrificial Lion: Given the franchise, this was an inevitable given, several prominent character dying to prove how dangerous the situation is becoming.
  • North Lane, the current Joestar family Battle Butler, with a particularly potent Time Master ability, whose versatility far outstrips that of previous users with this kind of power, is killed off by one of the true Big Bad's top minions just after managing to trounce every enemy he had faced thus far, in order to show how deadly the enemies would be going forward.
• Screw Yourself: Brought up as a technicality by both Team Pussycat Dolls as the members are aspects of the single fused member respectively, as the fused member are aspects of them- so the ruder members view their love as narcissism jokingly.
  • Used as a loophole for Joan to be romantically involved with Joanna as they're apart of Theia Superstar so it's technically not incest by the former, much to the latter's annoyance.
• Story-Breaker Power: Given the franchise, certain Stands are exceptionally powerful, even compared to others.
  • North Lane's Clockwork is a power that takes the form of a set of large clock gears that alter the flow of time for everyone except for those North personally selects all temporal abilities in order to defeat his enemies swiftly helped by his power to North himself physically attack Stands themselves. His Armor makes him a One-Man Army able to use given temporal abilities to his advantage in addition to drastically increasing his physical powers- most notably reversing time to a point before an technology was used- that said technology was built to nullify one's ability to use a Stand in case they're too dangerous to fight against. The power's drawback is that its powers can only be used 12 times before reverting to normal with a thirteenth time being certain death. During its short time in the narrative, it becomes very obvious that North was going to steamroll through the enemies during his rescue mission and would've ended the the first major plot by himself due to strategically planning his powers to save for Dove. Naturally, for his powerful ability and no-nonsense attitude towards combat, he's killed off by the real main villain's minions so that the heroines have a chance to shine.
  • Kashmir Harrison's Good Times Bad Times revolves around swapping out entire timelines with another including her current one with several usages in a variety of ways including reviving herself from the dead and altering it so that an enemy that previously overwhelmed her- wouldn't be able to harm her. Said circumstance the latter was used to counter was a power to erase a person's entire past in the timeline being the most potent of the three.
• Took a Level in Badass: The entire point of the fanfic is establishing how Team Pussy Cat Dolls, the collective mother of Joshua of Part 9, managed to go from normal high school girls into godlike threats that the main villain of the initial half of Part 9 went to great lengths to restrain to avoid a confrontation.
• Tournament Arc: The entire part is built around this, being preparation for it and later the matches themselves.
• Villainous Friendship: The office staff at Dove's facility, Paradise are heavily implied to be close, hanging out at weekend parties, even the more Franken Fruitful.
  • Played with the Antimatter beings, while the trio of Alexandra, Anders, and Manifest all like each other, they vehemently despise Avoid and Ava Tar, the former being a Serial Rapist and the latter being an Omnicidal Maniac with a death toll of countless lives, with the recorded bare minimum being being being entire populations on multi-hundred trillion planets.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: The Rock Human King in contrast to his brethren, wanted humanity gone because they caused irreversible damage to the planet and desired to use the Locacaca's evolution to convert humanity into Rock Humans so they wouldn't be driven to extinction as an act of mercy.
• Wham Episode: Several over the fanfic.
  • At the end of the seemingly Filler chapter 8, a lamb with seven eyes, seven horns and slit throat meets the future Pussycat Dolls to warn them about Dove Pale Will. The revelation is that this lamb claims to be Leone Abbacchio who reincarnated into the aforementioned sheep after an event called the Big Remix, heavily implied to be the universal reset done by Pucci, resulting in the current universe with Steel Ball Run and Jojolion's eventss.
  • At the end of Chapter 15, after steamrolling through Dove's office staff with ease, he encounters one of the true main villain, Testa Raven's minions- Karneval Carnage just as he reached the midway point, who just so happened to have a meeting with Dove on the same day North decided to assault the facility- and who proceeds nonchalantly kill the butler with ease in spite of the latter's best efforts. All, but hinting a potential Big Bad Duumvirate between Dove and Testa.
• The Worf Effect: This occurs whenever a Stand user is hyped up and isn't able to pull a decent fight against their enemies.
  • The first fight in the series does this to both sides. You Yes-Eyes manages to trounce every single member of the future Pussycat Dolls...with the sole exception of the Bed Twins who manage to do much better showing against the Humanoid Abomination, forcing the latter to finally become serious and defeat them easily in turn, showing how much stronger it compared to it's previous form and in comparison to the twins. It then is easily defeated by Imagine All to demonstrate how much potent potential Joan has in comparison to the other girls.
  • Happens in the backstory after Soft & Wet: Go Beyond managed to defeat Tooru in two hits, it failed to do anything meaningful to the Rock Human King's Stand. Once he evolves his Stand into Purple Rain: Go Beyond, the one-sided fight goes back in his favor.
  • North had been managing to easily defeat Dove's agents one after another in spite of some having powerful abilities of their own due to the vast application of Time Master that vastly exceeds those of previous time using Stands. Then he suddenly encounters Karneval Carnage, one of Testa Raven's Praetorian Guard, who proceeds to defeat North as an afterthought as he heads to Dove's office to meet with him on a potential alliance between their groups. It hints how strong the rest of the group is in comparison to the previous enemies as Karnevel is the weakest member and how much of a threat Testa is to be able to keep them in line.
• Wrong Context Magic: While You Yes-Eyes' Stand having an unusual power isn't out of the ordinary for the bizarre series, it becomes odd even by the series' standards as the user's identity is shared by has four separate bodies that each have their own unusual Stand. These beings can then re-combine into a single body with a singular Stand, causing the others to vanish, which technically breaks the rule of one Stand per user unless special circumstances are involved, with You Yes-Eyes' case not fitting into any previous scenario. This is not getting into the fact that You Yes-Eyes is a Humanoid Abomination who has traits completely alien to the human world including the ability to need to reverse leave a room to enter it, bleed out dark cubes that change the color of the room it's in, shape-shifting, turning intangible, etc and is actually the humanoid avatar of a Genius Loci house like entity that feeds off of temporal energies.
