What happens when you smush together several different worlds consisting of Vocaloid, The Legend Of Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy and a bunch of others into one unified setting? You get Legend of the Rising Star, a crossover fanfiction made by Xerizero Re 9010 taking place in the same universe as his original fiction series, Starlit Heroics.
It consists of the adventures had by the central characters (the Vocaloids) and the new companions they meet on the way. It starts off nice and comfy, focusing on their semi-peaceful lives at Shining Advent, balancing between fighting monsters and crime to making music videos, and so on. However, everything steadily becomes worse with the presence of a new enemy. They are known as the Apocalytes, a large organization of demons and other beings who have unified themselves for one purpose— the destruction of everything. Said enemy is also an old foe of the Vocaloids back when both the ruling Families of Heaven and Hell were on good terms with each other, so they're back for revenge on top of that.
However, as time goes on, it becomes evident that the Apocalytes are only one of their many worries. There's also the presence of a cat boy by the name of Augustus Octavia, who the Vocaloids and friends take in after stopping him from theft on the account that he prove his true worth to them— little did they know that they had picked up the reincarnation of the God of Death on their side, and this causes a lot of Emotional Torque among the group throughout the series for many different reasons.
... However, this would be true if the author didn't halt production when before it actually began out of disinterest for the story and the massive amount of copyrighted characters he put in without rhyme or reason.
Tropes include:
- Alternate Universe Fic: Not for anything related to Starlit Heroics, but instead for a select number of franchises brought up into the mix that would normally be incompatible for the story.
- Art Shift: Compare Peacock to any other character. There's also the Dream Realm, which also doubles as Chaos Architecture.
- Anyone Can Die: No punches pulled here.
- All There in the Manual: The same wiki for Starlit Heroics is used for Legend of the Rising Star.
- Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Commonplace as people become more powerful. In a dark turn, though, this also applies to becoming an Apocalyean.
- Anthropomorphic Personification: Many things, but specifically Action 52— he represents everything that can go wrong in video games and is the messenger of the Apocalyte leaders.
- Aerith and Bob: Peacock and Cecil. Bulleta and Travis— The list goes on.
- Artifact of Doom: The Skull Heart. There's also the Red Rose used by Madotsuki, for a minor example.
- Bag of Spilling: The main Vocaloids were formerly very powerful before they went to sleep— their powers got dormant as time passed. In the battle between Daniel and Amentia, as a last ditch effort, she sealed his powers and reduced him to a small kid. [[spoiler: There's also Madoka getting depowered into a younger version of herself, but oddly enough she's not as young as Daniel is.
- In a villain's case, Kefka is revived from his demise, but since he lost the power of the Espers and the Warring Triad, he's reduced to basically nothing. He plans to fix this with the Life Eater, though.
- Big Boo's Haunt: Like in its parent series, cemeteries are always crawling with zombies or ghosts at night. For a prominent example, there's the Graveyard Palace, which is absolutely colossal in that it's a wasteland populated with nothing but gravestones. At the end, there's a mansion filled with vampires.
- There's also the first part of the Trial of the Earth Silence Gem - The Terra Catacombs, specifically. And it's located below the City of Adventure that serves as the hub for the heroes... Sweet lord.
- Big Bad Ensemble: Demedis, Kefka, Baal and the Combine Emperor, Prometheus.
- BFG: Gumi's Megpoid Launcher, for one. There's also the giant punt gun that she has.
- BFS: There's a lot. Special mention goes to Meiko's Balmung dragon slayer broadsword, which is tremendous compared to her. There's also Ultima Weapon XV's sword forms— both of them.
- Bystander Syndrome: Averted, for the most part. One prominent example - Shining Advent was founded by Lelus and Attemi for the very reason of protecting Crypton Province from all the crime and misery because they felt like they could make a difference.
- Cast of Snowflakes: Each character picked and each character made specifically for the story can all be identified from each other.
- Continuation: Several years later, a bunch of new characters and villains, new Macguffins...
- Canon Immigrant: Some ideas and even the entire Apocalyte backstory was melded with the actual canon of Starlit Heroics, sans Vocaloids and everything else copyrighted, of course.
- Chainsaw Good: Urotsuki wields a chainsaw sword, no less.
- Character Title: Rising Star is Miku's hero form from the past— and Miku's the main character, so it all fits.
- Crisis Crossover: Pandora brought all the heroes she did (from multiple franchises and Starlit Heroics related) so they can face not only the Apocalytes, but any other threat that showed up along with them.
- Dream People: Literally— Madotsuki and Urotsuki, due to their new powers, are able to materialize the beings from their dreams into reality.
- Dual Wielding: Lily and Bulleta eventually get two handguns. There's also Peacock, who gets a golden revolver to counteract her silver one.
- Eldritch Location: The Dream Realm is infinitely changing and is incomprehensible to even demons and angels in its rawest state. That is, excluding for one location that serves as the secondary base for the Apocalytes.
- Elemental Powers: The whole story, like its parent series, is governed by eight elements, with special subcategories/techniques—
- Null - Non-Elemental and Pure Energy. Also mixed in with some Sound properties. Subcatergories consist of having the possibility to being able to control the other elements (Pathway) and is responsible for letting people mix with the weapon they have the most sentimental value to. (Weapon Synthesis)
- Light - Holy Hand Grenade, The Power of the Sun and Hard Light respectiveably. Subcatergories consist of being able to purge evil spirits / corruption (Purification) and resistance to possession or any other sort of control over your body. (Clarity)
- Dark - Casting a Shadow and Necromancy, specifically. Subcategories consist of being able to see enemy weak points (Spiral) and being able to see the enviroment around you when vision can't do the job. (Presence)
- Luna - Lunacy and Hard Light (except purple), and is described as the combination of Light and Dark. Subcategories consist of control over time, barriers and healing, along with being able to remove your body parts and control them (Limb Liberation) and control other people through puppetry (Dead Man's Dance)
- Earth - Dishing Out Dirt and Green Thumb at the same time. Its subcategories consists of the most broken skill out of all the elements, which is using raw Earth power to break through enemy defenses (Breaker) and using Earth power to boost your own endurancy. (Defender)
- Flame - Playing with Fire. Its subcategories consist of being able to touch or even dive into (in the case of lava) superheated sources without any negative effects (Infinite Degree) and being able to make your fire stronger, as shown by its ascendance into hotter shades of colors. (Pyrokinetics)
- Frost - An Ice Person and Making a Splash respectiveably, due to it mixing together Ice and Water. Subcategories consist of being able to breathe underwater (Aquatics) and being able to turn water into ice and vice-versa. (Hydro-Puppetry)
- Cloud - Blow You Away and Shock and Awe, thanks to it being a mixture of Wind and Lightning. Subcategories consist of being able to fly (Aviary), using your body as a living energy source (Generator), and being able to move really fast (Wind Slicer).
- Exotic Eye Designs: Valentine's cross-shaped irises. There's also characters turned into the Skullgirl who gain skull-shaped irises. There's also Tone Rion, who has heart shaped irises.
- Eyes Always Shut: Averted— Madotsuki and Urotsuki have been shown to having red eyes.
- Eyes Do Not Belong There: Lacharone and Double. The Medamaude effect for Madotsuki turns her into a hunchback creature with a hand replacing her head with an eye inside the palm.
- Everything's Better with Rainbows: The Rainbow effect Urotsuki has.
- Fountain of Youth: Amentia's Archangel Pulse not only removes Daniel's powers, but she reverts him into a kid.
- Local Hangout / Good-Guy Bar: The Stella Citadel, beside being the place where everyone works, is also where everyone hangs out in the downtime between missions and fighting.
- Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Take the creator's original series, add Vocaloid in there, and arrange its entire universe to contain as many video game franchises (and two or more anime series) as possible, and you'd get Legend of the Rising Star in a nutshell. The author describes it as the Justice League Unlimited of crossover fanfiction.
- Word of God confirms that the creator chose the specific franchises he did to help build a fuller world and offer a more complete experience.
- Mêlée à Trois: An especially impressive list of combatants as well— Shining Advent / The Lunardream Family vs the Apocalytes vs The Council of Eden vs TheOverlordRegime and the Combine Empire for a general example.
- Due to the sheer variety of characters present, it's natural for this trope to come up should there be multiple sides involved in a fight.
- Power Levels: While it is supplementary material, it is HEAVILY influential on the actual measuring of characters' strength. Not only that, it's measured in Disgaea-esque levels. It is also very strict and defined, meaning that it will never stray away from the formula.
- Levels 1 - 100 = Normal human beings and the like. This is what the majority of Earth is like.
- Levels 101 - 1000 = The average strength of Divixerans (Divixus being the planet where the story takes place on), usually due to better technology, elemental influence and overall better abilities. This also applies to creatures that live on the planet and the other alien species spread throughout the universe.
- Levels 1001 - 2500 = Practically the levels where any spiritual being such as angels, demons, and so on lie in, thanks to living on an advanced plane of existence and therefore have a greater limit onto their abilities.
- Levels 2501 - 4000 = Demigod levels. Practically the highest levels a spiritual being could ever reach, it is reserved only for Demon Overlords, Seraphims, Archangels (2500 - 3000), the Two Families' monsters (Lunardream and Deathmoon alike), Apocalytes (at their best) and Nachzehrer (black blooded demons with the highest potential out of any creature in the universe)
- Levels 4001 - 9999 = God levels. This is where things get serious, because when anything gets this high, nothing can rival them. This is the level where entities can shift reality and bend the cosmos to their will - and it's very, very specific, as becoming a god is practically impossible - there is no real way to do so.
- Precursor Heroes: Certain members of the Twelve Holy Disciples had a counterpart back in the first Apocalyean War, such as the avian warrior for Peacock and the Nightmare Sealer line of heroes for Urotsuki. Subverted with the main eight Vocaloids, who are described to be the representatives for the Vocaloid heroes for the past but are actually the same person with amnesia and have suffered a forced Bag of Spilling.
- Predecessor Villain: Alternatively, the same applies to some Apocalytes - Madotsuki is the newest member for the infamous Night Weaver line of villains who served to fight against the Nightmare Sealers. Also, Monochroma is destined to become the new Skullgirl after Marie.
- Recurring Element: No matter how many new franchises with their own rules are thrown in, they will all get adapted to the Starlit Heroics universe in one way or another. The elements system is a prominent example, as it applies to every single character that appears, regardless of what they belonged to previously.
- Shout-Out: An entire page, no less.
- The Syndicate: The Council of Eden. They have control over all of Luba Linn, and nobody is any the wiser.
- A Taste of Power: Daniel, The Hero of Starlit Heroics, was stronger than practically everyone on the good guys side at the beginning of Legend of the Rising Star. This was because he turned into Ranthael and restored all of his latent powers by now, making him an unstoppable force of nature. However, in the battle between him and the Queen of the Apocalytes, Amentia, she dropped him back down by quite a bit, using an attack called Archangel Pulse to do the deed. He was reduced to a kid and his former powers as a god have been sealed, making him less of a threat to the villains.
- A similar case happens to Madoka Kaname, who was just as powerful as Daniel. The Apocalytes quickly solve that problem.
- Took a Level in Badass: 75 percent of the entire cast is made up of characters who would be normally be overpowered in the world of Starlit Heroics. They adapted to the situation.
- World of Badass: The world of Starlit Heroics was full of Badasses to begin with - it only got bigger.
