These nations will emerge as the three African Reichskommissariate decolonize. The situation in post-colonial Central Africa will differ depending on how the victor of the South African War managed the post-war OFN Mandates or Großafrikanischer Reichstaat: in the former case, whether the mandates successfully transferred power to the natives or collapsed (the African Crisis); in the latter case, how long the Reichstaat lasted before its inevitable collapse (the End of the Reichsstaat for African Devastation Stages I and II, the African Devastation for Stage III).

Equatorial Africa

    Republic of Orungu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_gabon.png

Ideology: Progressive Liberalismnote  / Paternalistic Conservatismnote  (Republic of Orungu), Military Juntanote  (African Devastation Stage II), Personalistic Dictatorshipnote  (African Devastation Stage III)
The Republic of Orungu is established around OTL Gabon and depends on how decolonization went, its territory may include southwestern part of OTL Congo-Brazzaville. Orungu might also emerge from or annex Spanish Guinea if the Iberian Union falls into civil war.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: They can potentially annex Spanish Guinea if the Iberian Wars happen, when the situation in Iberia is too chaotic for them to do anything about it.

Jean-Hilaire Aubame

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_orungu_jean_hilaire_aubame.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage I, OFN decolonization, Congo collapse)
Party: Parti Démocratique Orungunote
Ideology: Progressive Liberalismnote

  • Historical Downgrade: Aubame was one of M'ba's more noteworthy rivals in real-life, advocating for free democratic measures over the latter's idea of a one-party state, yet sometimes working with him if their political interests aligned. Though M'ba is a supporting character in the game, his relationship with Aubame goes unmentioned, with the man only appearing after the Central African Republic decolonizes.

Léon M'ba

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_orungu_leon_m_ba.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage I, OFN decolonization, Congo collapse)
Party: Parti Démocratique Orungunote
Ideology: Paternalistic Conservatismnote

  • Enemy Mine: Abrams doesn't like working with M'Ba to secure Orungu's independence because of his unwillingness to align his state with the OFN. Nonetheless, Abrams recognizes that he needs to continue working with him to maintain peace in the region and thus tolerates his presence.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Unlike most African leaders, M'ba is one of the three authority figures who are still willing to cooperate with the Central African Republic after the disastrous All-African Summit and signal a peaceful decolonization of the continent.

Nazaire Boulingui

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_orungu_nazaire_boulingui.png
Role: Military Commander, Head of State (African Devastation stage II)
Party: Union démocratique Pour la Défense des Intérêts Africainsnote
Ideology: Military Juntanote

  • A Lighter Shade of Black: Boulingui is a military despot, but nowhere near as cruel or crazy as Nguema, who appears in the third African Devastation stage.

Francisco Macías Nguema

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_orungu_francisco_macias_nguema.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation Stage III)
Party: Parti d'Unité Nationale des Travailleursnote
Ideology: Personalistic Dictatorshipnote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Zig-Zagged. He doesn't initially become president of Equatorial Guinea, as he did in OTL, but he can annex the territory if the Iberian Wars happen and technically extend his authority over the territory.

Rene Paul Sousatte

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_orungu_rene_paul_sousatte.png

Ideology: Controlled Democracynote  (OFN Decolonization), Pan-Africanismnote  (OFN/Reichstaat Collapse)
Loango are secessionists from Orungu. It can be released in OFN Congo's Léopoldville Conference. A communist Loango will also appear in the Reichstaat or OFN collapse.
  • Occupiers Out of Our Country: Loango doesn't want to submit themselves to anybody, viewing both their former French colonizers and the Orunguns as oppressors.

Alfred Raoul

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_brazzaville_alfred_raoul.png
Role: Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Parti Démocratique Loangonote
Ideology: Controlled Democracynote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Just as Raoul became the Prime Minister of Congo-Brazzaville during the late 1960's, he'll gain similar political prominence when the Reichstaat collapses early and Loango can secede from them.

Marien Ngouabi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_orungu_marien_ngouabi.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Union Panafricaine pour la Démocratie Socialenote
Ideology: Pan-Africanismnote

  • Rebel Leader: During Hüttig's reign, he's the main rebel leader in Equatorial Africa, arming the locals for a violent revolution.

Bêafrîka is established around OTL Central African Republic.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste:
    • After the Reichstaat's collapse, they annex the city of Hitlerstadt from the German remnants.
    • During the Congo civil war they will invade Azandeland to reclaim their lost territories.
  • One-Steve Limit: This country is a direct analogue of the OTL Central African Republic, but it's known by its Sango name Bêafrîka in TNO, apparently because the name Central African Republic is already used by the mandate formed by the United States if it chooses to form a single administration after winning the South African War.
  • Please Select New City Name: The German resort town of Hitlerstadt will be renamed to Enima-Engumba if Abrams chooses not to demolish the city.

Ange-Félix Patassé

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_beafrika_ange_felix_patasse_6.png
Role: Economy Minister (Dacko and Kolingba cabinet), Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Mouvement pour la Libération du Peuple Beafrikainnote
Ideology: Paternalism, Social Democracynote  (OFN decolonization)

Role: Head of Government (Dacko and Kolingba cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage I, OFN decolonization, Congo collapse, Congo Civil War)
Party: Movement for the Social Evolution of Black Africa
Ideology: Dominant-Party Democracynote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Dacko was the first president of the Central African Republic, which is an analogue to Bêafrîka here and how he can become the first head of state for the newly formed nation.

André Kolingba

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_beafrika_andre_kolingba.png

Role: Head of State (Popular Republic of the Congo victory)
Party: Mouvement pour la Libération du Peuple Centrafricainnote

  • Regime Change: Shortly after winning the Congo civil war, the Popular Republic of the Congo will invade the country and install Goumba as a puppet leader.

Congo

    Congolese Republic
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_congo_kinshasa_1966_1971.png
Official Name: Congolese Republic, Congo State (African Stage II)
Ruling Party: Mouvement National Congolais - Lumumbistsnote
Ideology: National Liberalismnote , Military Juntanote  (African Devastation Stage II)
The Congolese Republic is established around OTL Democratic Republic of Congo. The nation is highly likely to be drawn into civil war.
  • Balkanize Me: If the Congo Crisis occurs or the Reichstaat reaches Devastation Level III, the Congolese Republic will balkanize into six different countries.
  • Civil War:
    • After the collapse of the Reichstaat, the Congo will collapse into civil war between the Congolese Republic, the Afrikaner-Abwehrfront, Azandeland, the Popular Republic of the Congo, Katanga, and Sud-Kasai.
    • Lumumba will lead a rebellion against the American-backed Federal Republic if the OFN Congo mandate collapses. They will also have to deal with the Japanese-backed Azandeland, the Popular Republic of the Congo, Katanga, and South Kasai.
  • Enemy Mine: The Movement National Gonolais is bitter rivals with Antoine Gizenga's Parti Solidaire Africain, as the former wants an African republic and the latter wants a socialist government. but they fought alongside each other to resist the African Reichskommisariats. After the OFN achieves total victory, both parties will return to fighting each other.
  • Proxy War: America will back the Congolese Republic against the German, Japanese, and Cameroonian-backed factions.

Patrice Lumumba

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_congo_patrice_lumumba.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation Stage I and III, Congo collapse)
Party: Mouvement National Congolais - Lumumbistsnote
Ideology: National Liberalismnote

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Lumumba is distrustful of the Americans when they establish OFN mandates after the South African War, but he's one of the few still willing to help the Central African Republic peacefully decolonize, even after the All-African Summit ends in disaster.
  • Rebel Leader: Should the OFN conquer the Afrika-Schild and establish the mandates, Patrice Lumumba leads the Congolese National Movement against the OFN Congo mandate.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Lumumba makes an appearance at the Léopoldville conference, giving a passionate speech in an attempt to persuade the other delegates to make a stand against the OFN. Abrams has him ejected from the conference; his vision for the Congo isn't even on the table.

Joseph Kasa-Vubu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zentralafrika_joseph_kasa_vubu.png
Role: Military Commander, Economy Minister (Abrams cabinet), Head of State (OFN Decolonization)
Party: Mouvement National Congolais - Lumumbistsnote
Ideology: National Liberalismnote

  • The Coup: If the Congolese Republic emerges from the collapse of the Reichstaat, Kasa-Vubu will eventually coup Patrice Lumumba and go to war with the other Congolese states.
  • Defector from Decadence: He will join Lumumba’s rebellion against the Americans if the Congo mandate collapses, viewing the Americans as imperialists.
  • The Quisling: Kasa-Vubu is made economy minister of the OFN's Central African mandate in order to secure the support of the natives, and Abrams can choose him to lead the Congolese Republic at the Léopoldville Conference. He may also have collaborated with the RK Zentralafrika administration, which might lead the US to choose Iléo over him to lead the Congo.

Joseph Iléo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_congo_joseph_ileo.png
Role: Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Mouvement National Congolais - Social Chrétiennote
Ideology: Christian Conservatismnote

  • Les Collaborateurs: Downplayed. If the OFN Congo mandate collapses, Iléo is one of the few Congolese leaders willing to work with the Americans. However, he is still a staunch anti-colonialist and denounces American imperialism over the Congo. They can choose him to lead the mandate, seen as a safer option to Adoula.
  • Cool Shades: Iléo’s portrait features him wearing a pair of shades.
  • A Lighter Shade of Grey: During the Léopoldville conference, America can choose Iléo to lead the newly independent Congo over Kasa-Vubu, following rumours Kasa-Vubu may have worked with the Zentralafrika administration.

Victor Lundula

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_congo_victor_lundula.png
Role: Military Commander, Security Minister (Lumumba, Kasa-Vubu, Iléo cabinets), Head of State (African Devastation stage II)
Party: Armee Nationale Congolaisenote
Ideology: Military Juntanote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL, Lundula was a solider whose mostly remembered for being the first Commander-in-Chief of the Armée Nationale Congolaise. Here, Lundula gets far more power than he ever did in real-life, potentially ruling all of Congo or leading one of its warlord states.

  • Occupiers Out of Our Country: The Popular Republic is another pan-African faction that seeks to liberate the Congo from all foreign influence.
  • Proxy War: Cameroon will back the Popular Republic against the other factions in the Congo Civil War.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_congo_christophe_gbenye.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III, Congo collapse, Congo Civil War)
Party: Parti Solidaire Africainnote
Ideology: Pan-Africanismnote

  • The Conqueror: After winning the Congo civil war, Gbenye will invade Beafrika and turn it into a puppet state.
  • Defector from Decadence: Following Lumumba's death, Gbenye will split from the Republic to form a socialist movement in opposition to the Republic, believing that his ideology is more suited to reconstructing the Congo.
  • Undying Loyalty: If Cameroon was victorious in the West African War and the Popular Republic won the Civil war, Gbenye will align with Cameroon and join the Pan-African Liberation Front.

  • Military Coup: The government of Azandeland was formed out of an armed coup led by Soko.
  • Occupiers Out of Our Country: Regardless of whether the Reichstaat or the OFN Mandates are established, Azandeland will fight against their oppressors to achieve its own independence.
  • Please Select New City Name: After winning the Congo civil war, Mobutu renames the Congo to Zaire.
  • Proxy War: Azandeland is the faction backed by Japan in the Congo Civil War and will join the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere as an observer nation after winning the civil war.

Mobutu Sese Soko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_azandeland_mobutu_sese_soko.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III, Congo collapse, Congo Civil War)
Party: Conseil Militaire de la Révolution - Authenticiténote
Ideology: Revolutionary Nationalismnote

  • Enemy Mine: Mobutu is an early domestic enemy to the OFN Provisional Government of the Congo, fighting against them to hasten decolonization. However, Mobutu will reluctantly work with them to combat the Cameroonians, in which he'll request for the OFN to give him military supplies.
  • The Quisling: In Reichskomissariat Zentralafrika, he accepted a commanding position in the SS.
  • Rebel Leader: He's rallied natives and escaped slaves to resist Hüttig and his Reichstaat, and if the OFN establishes the mandates, he's only willing to cooperate with Abrams against Cameroon for so long until he turns against him, too.
  • Secret Identity: The name "Mobutu Sese Soko" is a nickname he uses in place of his real birth name, Joseph-Désiré Mobutu.

    Sud-Kasaï

Official Name: Autonomous State of Sud-Kasaï

Ideology: Oligarchynote
Sud-Kasaï is a warlord state established with African Devastation stage III, in southern Congo.
  • Dark Horse Victory: Kasai is a small Congolese state that has no foreign backing in the Congo Civil War, yet it can still emerge victorious in it. This development will baffle the rest of the world, with experts debating how such an outcome is possible.

Moïse Tshombe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_katanga_moise_tshombe.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Parti Solidaire Africainnote
Ideology: Oligarchynote

  • Choosing Neutrality: Tshombe has no interest in aligning with any side in the Cold War and will withdraw the Congo into economic isolation if he wins the civil war.

Godefroid Munongo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_kasai_godefroid_munongo.png
Role: Head of State (Congo collapse, Congo Civil War)
Party: Parti Solidaire Africainnote
Ideology: Oligarchynote

  • Guile Hero: Early on in a Zentralafrika game, Munongo begins organizing a strike against Union Minère du Haut Katanga, and Rolf Steiner sends a group of mercenaries to smooth things out diplomatically. Munongo has a counter for whoever he sends.
    • If Bob Denard is sent, Munongo gets him so drunk that he can't remember the particulars of the agreement, only that Munongo won't be an issue anymore.
    • If Bruce Mackenzie is sent, Munongo co-opts him into becoming his business partner, forming Munongo & Mackenzie Human Resources Ltd.
    • If Jean Schramme is sent, Munongo gets him to back off by revealing that he has evidence that Schramme has been embezzling from the company.
  • Royal Blood: Munongo is the grandson of Emperor Msiri of Katanga and is married to a Lunda princess, making him one of the most important native rulers in Katanga.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: One of the directors of Union Minère du Haut Katanga describes Munongo as "the only African in the Congo with a White Man's brain, with fingers where you can't even imagine." Because of this, Steiner determines that violence is off the table when dealing with him.

    State of Katanga
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katanga.png
Flag of the State of the Congo
Official Name: State of Katanga, State of the Congo (Civil War victory)
Ruling Party: Schramme Clique
Ideology: Corporate Statismnote
A state located in the Katanga region of Congo, led by Belgian mercenary Jean Schramme. Katanga can emerge from the OFN Congo's Léopoldville Conference, or it can emerge from the chaos in the aftermath of the Reichstaat's African Devastation.
  • Les Collaborateurs: The Belgians in Katanga have collaborated with the Germans to keep their land. If the OFN achieves total victory in the South African War, they'll work with them in the hopes of establishing their own state to continue exploiting the Congo's rich natural resources.
  • Fate Worse than Death: The Belgians consider being repatriated by the Nazis to Burgundy if they don't cooperate as a death sentence in all but name.
  • Foil: In addition to being an analogue to the Belgian Congo just prior to independence, Katanga is something of a foil to the similarly white-dominated Kolonialverwaltung Sambesi. Whereas the Rhodesians of Sambesi are primarily in it to retain their old colonial privileges, the Belgians of Katanga maintain their way of life out of naked survival and a desire to preserve some semblance of their lost homeland, away from the Burgundian nightmare.
  • Foreign Ruling Class: Unlike most other African warlord states, Katanga is ruled not by native peoples, but by Belgian mercenaries and corporations led by Jean Schramme.
  • Invading Refugees: Katanga is host to a sizable population of Belgians who managed to get out of what became the SS State of Burgundy. Having seen what became of their old homeland, they have no intention of leaving and seek to remake the country in their image.
  • One Nation Under Copyright: Katanga, along with potentially the rest of the Congo, is a playground for various corporations under loose government control. With the Belgian-run mining concerns in particular being the most dominant among these.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: While the Belgians generally have a dim view of "Congo monkeys", they're willing to not only tolerate native Katangans loyal to the regime, but also promote those who've proven their worth. These, however, have more to do with maintaining order and having a competent labor force than any genuine respect of them as equals.
  • The Remnant: Since Belgium was completely absorbed into the hellhole that is Burgundy, the State of Katanga can be considered a remnant state formed by Belgians who avoided the fate of their countrymen back home.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Witnessing the utter destruction of their homeland by Burgundy has disillusioned the Belgians in Africa and they now no longer care of adhering to higher ideals of freedom or liberty.

Jean Schramme

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zentralafrika_jean_schramme.png
Role: Military Commander, Head of State (African Devastation stage III, OFN decolonization, Congo collapse, Congo Civil War)
Party: Schramme Clique
Ideology: Corporate Statismnote , Corporatocracynote  (Civil War victory)

  • Bait-and-Switch: During a meeting with Westmoreland, Schramme shares a drink with him to discuss how the Belgians can benefit from the Central African Republic. When Westmoreland assures Schramme that they can help each other, Schramme seems pleased and casually reveals that some of his men thought of poisoning him. This startles Westmoreland before Schramme reveals that he was joking.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Schramme is the leader of the Belgian expatriate community, a very rich corporate magnate, and is the most powerful man in RK Zentralafrika after Siegfried Müller. In truth, he is a poor excuse for a mafioso, constantly threatening the Reichskommissariat with the shutdown of all Belgian activities if they aren't granted tax exemptions and other benefits, but cannot demand too much, lest the Germans run out of patience.
  • Meet the New Boss: If Katanga unites the Congo, Schramme proceeds to replicate the old RK Zentralafrika's status quo, only this time with the Belgians undeniably in control.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: If Schramme wins the Congo Civil War, he will strike trade deals with other nations and open the Congo to foreign exploitation of its rich resources.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Already willing to collaborate with the Nazis of RK Zentralafrika, Schramme shows an even more unsavory side at the Léopoldville conference held by the OFN Provisional Government of the Congo should the OFN conquer the Reichskommissariate, where he refers to the mandate's inhabitants as "Congo monkeys."
  • Start of Darkness: If the OFN conquers the Afrika-Schild and establishes the Central African Republic, Westmoreland will eventually meet with Schramme, who mentions his disillusionment with freedom and democracy when the Nazis overran Belgium during World War II. Now he looks out only for himself and his fellow Belgians in the Congo. As he puts it:
"Life in the Congo has always been about tapping the sap. And for any successful rubber venture, stability is key."
  • Stealing from the Till: Godefroid Munongo has evidence that Schramme has been embezzling from Union Minère du Haut Katanga, giving contracts to soldiers that don't exist and selling Company weapons to third parties.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Schramme helps Abrams stabilize the Congo in exchange for providing benefits to the Belgians in Africa. During the Léopoldville Conference, Schramme expects Abrams to repay the favor by granting him and the Belgian landowners an independent state in the form of Katanga, in which Abrams has the option to deny the deal, citing that they have outlived their usefulness.

    Federal Republic of Congo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_dr_congo_1997_2003.png
Official Name: Federal Republic of Congo
Ruling Party: Parti Démocrate et Social Chrétiennote
Ideology: National Liberalismnote  (Adoula), Christian Conservatismnote  (Iléo)

The Federal Republic of Congo is an American backed republic that will appear if the OFN Congo government collapses.

  • Civil War: After the collapse of the OFN Congo mandate, the Federal Republic will fight a civil war with the Congolese Republic, the Popular Republic of the Congo, Azandeland, and the separatist states of Katanga and Sud-Kasai.
  • Plot Hole: Despite events referring to the country's leadership being from the remnants of the Congolese National Party, the game shows them being from the Democratic Social Christian Party.
  • Proxy War: America will back the Federal Republic against the Japanese-backed Azandeland, the Cameroonian-backed Popular Republic of the Congo, and other rebels.
  • Puppet State: Downplayed. The Federal Republic has deep ties to America and relied on OFN support following the collapse of the mandate, firmly drawing the republic into their sphere of influence and the OFN itself following their victory in the civil war. Because of this, many international observers have categorized it as an act of American neocolonialism.
  • The Remnant: Following Lumumba’s rebellion against American rule and Kasa-Vubu’s last-minute defection, the Federal Republic is the last democratic faction willing to work with the Americans.

Cyrille Adoula

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_congo_cyrille_adoula.png
Role: Head of Government (Abrams cabinet), Head of State (Congo collapse)
Party: Parti Démocrate et Social Chrétiennote
Ideology: Paternalism, National Liberalismnote  (Congo collapse)

  • Les Collaborateurs: Adoula is a Congolese politician who collaborates in the OFN Mandate in preparation for its eventual dismantlement.
  • You Are in Command Now: In the OFN Mandate in Congo collapses, Adoula is suddenly put in charge of the OFN-aligned splinter state.

Joseph Iléo

German Remnants

    Afrikaner-Abwehrfront / Léopoldville Verwaltung
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/abwehr.png
Official Name: Afrikaner-AbwehrfrontTr. (Förschner), Léopoldville VerwaltungTr. (Hassel)
Ideology: Fascism
The remnants of the Großafrikanischer Reichstaat following its collapse, located on the mouth of the Congo River.
  • Allohistorical Allusion: The Afrikaner-Abwehrfront essentially becomes a Nazi German version of Rhodesia, being a renegade African state ruled by whites. Unlike the real Rhodesia, however, they have no means of receiving aid from their compatriots back home, especially should it fail to mend ties with Germany.
  • Back from the Brink: It is possible for the Reichstaat remnants to retake the Congo region for Germany, restoring some of their old colonial territory in Africa.
  • Everyone Has Standards: During their coup against the Reichstaat, they violently murder both Hüttig and Mengele, both of whom are violent Nazis with a litany of atrocities under their name.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: They consist of Nazis disillusioned with the Reichstaat's madness, with the Léopoldville Verwaltung in particular being led by loyalists seeking to reassert German control in their corner of Africa. Both, however, are opposed to Hüttig's insane implementation of the Burgundian System.
  • No Kill like Overkill: The anti-Hüttig coup plotters kill Josef Mengele with a barrage of 52 rounds during their coup.
  • Proxy War: In the Congo Civil War, the Reichstaat remnants receive aid from Germany to expel all American and Japanese influence in the region.
  • The Remnant: The Afrikaner-Abwehrfront/Léopoldville Verwaltung is all that remains of the Nazi government and the Abwehrfront garrison after the collapse of Hans Hüttig's empire. It's also the only one which has any claim of legitimacy to the pre-Reichstaat administration in the eyes of Germany.

  • The Coup: When the Reichstaat loses control over Mozambique and relocates its capital from Quelimane to Léopoldville, Hüttig's subordinates will all lose faith in him, as they're sick of keeping his ramshackle Reichstaat together. Förschner will then lead a coup on Hüttig, causing the Reichstaat to collapse.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Förschner covers his right eye with a very notable eyepatch.
  • Know When to Fold Them: In the event of the Afrikaner Abwehrfront's victory in the Congo and its eventual legitimization by Germany, Förschner wisely opts to step down, with Léo Pétillon seen as a more preferable choice by the Reich.
  • The Purge: Förschner purges the SS led by Richard Baer and Karl-Friedrich Höcker after taking over from Hüttig.
  • Welcome Back, Traitor: Downplayed. Germany can't directly support Förschner in the Congo Wars because he's still perceived as a traitor for participating in Hüttig's betrayal. However, if Förschner does unify the Congo, Germany will mend ties with his state again, but only to maintain German hegemony in Central Africa and they acknowledge that their alliance is tenuous at best.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: After the collapse of the Großafrikanischer Reichstaat, Otto Förschner and his men have nowhere to go and are just trying to survive in the jungles of Africa, knowing that since Hans Hüttig went rogue from the Reich by proclaiming his own Reich, Germany has proclaimed them traitors and will shoot them on sight if they ever dared going back home.

Kai-Uwe von Hassel

  • Anti-Mutiny: After Hassel's cabal successfully deposes the traitor Hans Hüttig, they declare their loyalty to Germania and proclaim the restoration of German rule in Africa.
  • Cincinnatus: Should the Léopoldville Verwaltung succeed in bringing the Congo back under German control, Hassel will hand power over to Léo Pétillon, who he believes to be better suited for running it.
  • Fake Defector: When Hans Hüttig betrays the Reich by taking over RK Zentralafrika, Hassel is forced to pretend to go with this plan, but remains loyal to Germania and leads a secret group that seeks to overthrow Hüttig.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: Hassel remains a loyalist to the Reich and seeks to reassert German colonialism, but is much more open to compromise and reform compared to Hüttig.
  • La Résistance: Hassel's secret Anti-Hüttig Cabal prepares for a counter-coup, deposing the madman Hüttig and re-establishing German rule in Africa.
  • Meet the New Boss: Downplayed. Hassel seeks to restore German colonial rule, but clearly intends to make it preferable to Hüttig's mad order.
  • Welcome Back, Traitor: Downplayed. Hassel's efforts can succeed in bringing the Léopoldville Verwaltung back firmly into the German fold. Not only is his previous service under Hüttig forgiven, he's also legitimized as "Reichsprotektor" by Germany.

    Paktkommission Kongo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/germancongo.png
Official Name: Paktkommission Kongo
Ideology: Corporatocracynote
A German puppet encompassing much of the former Reichskomissariat Zentralafrika, should the Afrikaner-Abwehrfront or Léopoldville Verwaltung succeed in fully conquering the rest of the Congo, and if Germany is under either Speer or Bormann.
  • Foreign Ruling Class: The Pactkommission Kongo is dominated by the German and Belgian minority; the more equal stake given to natives exists only on paper.
  • Here We Go Again!: The Paktkommission Kongo is effectively a reined-in version of RK Zentralafrika, with even more oversight from Germany.
  • Meet the New Boss: Downplayed. While the Paktkommission Kongo isn't exactly the return of RK Zentralafrika, it nonetheless signifies the return of the old German status quo and oversight from Germania, albeit with a more lenient hand.
  • Vestigial Empire: The state is all that remains of Germany's expansive African colonial ventures, being as far as the Reich will go to maintain any direct foothold there.

Léo Pétillon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_congo_leon_petillon.png
Role: Security Minister (Hassel cabinet), Head of State (German victory)
Ideology: Corporatocracynote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: In OTL, Pétillon was the penultimate Governor-General of the Belgian Congo prior to its independence, who attempted to foster a more equitable relationship between the natives and whites. In TNO, he could potentially assume leadership over the Léopoldville Verwaltung and thus, Paktkommission Kongo.
  • Former Regime Personnel: He had previously served under the Belgian colonial service, before being brought in as a bureaucrat working for the Germans due to his years of experience.
  • Vetinari Job Security: Regardless of whether the Léopoldville Verwaltung or Afrikaner-Abwehrfront reunites the region, Pétillon is seen as indispensable enough for the Reich to legitimize him as head of Paktkommission Kongo. This is in no small part owing to his prior experience in the Belgian Congo and careful maneuvering around Hans Huttig's Reichstaat, allowing him to escape direct complicity in said regime's crimes.

Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Gouvernement de Salut Public du Congo Libéré - Pro-Schrammenote
Ideology: Military Juntanote

  • Les Collaborateurs: Despite being Congolese, Singa is aligned with Schramme and his colonialist ventures in Congo.

Angola

    Republic of Angola
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_angola.png
Official Name: Republic of Angola, National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (Civil War), National Republic of Angola (Civil War victory)
Ruling Party: União Nacional para a Independência Total de Angolanote
Ideology: Military Juntanote , Controlled Democracynote  (Schenck decolonization), Christian Democracynote  (Roberto)

  • Civil War: After Angola gains independence in the aftermath of the collapse of the Reichstaat, the rivalry between its independence movements is likely to escalate into a full-blown civil war, now that the whites are no longer there as a common foe for them to fight.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Even before the first post-independence elections, UNITA leadership will already question the results.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: If Wolfgang Schenck succeeds in his plan to free Angola, the OFN will immediately declare war on it, and Angola can't survive long before it gets crushed by Afrika-Schild, the OFN, or both. That being said, if Angola was set up well enough in this first period, the devs have stated that this period of brief independence will help Angola in the future after the Reichstaat or OFN Angola collapses or decolonizes.
  • Elite Army: If Schenck provides enough preparation for Angolan independence, the newly formed nation will receive excellent army training that grants their military powerful boosts.
  • Proxy War: America will support UNITA against the Japanese-backed PLUAA in the Angolan civil war.
  • Space-Filling Empire: When Angola first gains its independence from Schenck, it will keep its annexed Namibian territory, nearly doubling their size. This becomes Subverted when the Namibischer Staat secedes, returning Angola to its normal size.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: Jonas Savimbi's National Union for the Total Independence of Angola fights with Agostinho Neto's African United Struggle Party for Angola almost as much as they fight the German colonial administration.

Jonas Savimbi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_angola_jonas_savimbi.png
Role: Head of State (Reichstaat collapse, OFN decolonization)
Party: União Nacional para a Independência Total de Angolanote
Ideology: Personalistic Dictatorshipnote , Controlled Democracynote  (Schenck Decolonization)

  • Ambiguously Evil: When Lavelle meets Savimbi, the African leader seems like a good-natured, friendly man who only wants what's best for Angola and will introduce a democratic system eventually. While he does serve as a loosely democratic leader if Schenck establishes a constitution in Angola, Savimbi's exchange with Lavelle draw suspicion to how truly dedicated he is to democracy without Schenck's influence.
Savimbi: Though, if you don't mind my saying so, I have some plans of my own to make this democracy more effective, so that when I take control—.
Lavelle: You mean when Angolans take control?
Savimbi: *brief pause* Yes, that. My plans would make for a more peaceful democracy.
  • Enemy Mine: While Savimbi and the OFN's goals don't always align, they can work together so that the OFN will support UNITA in exchange for helping them build up Angola and decolonize peacefully.
  • Only Friend: Unlike most Angolans, who regard Schenck as an oppressive colonizer, Savimbi can personally meet the Reichskommisar, forging somewhat of a friendship with him. By the time Schenck prepares Angola for independence and leaves, Savimbi will shake his hand out of gratitude before bidding him farewell.

Holden Roberto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_angola_holden_roberto.png
Role: Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Frente Nacional de Libertação de Angolanote
Ideology: Christian Democracynote

  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Roberto assuming office is this for the OFN as it allows Angola to join as a full member, however, it is very difficult to do. It requires power between the PLUAA and UNITA to be exactly 50-50 when the OFN decolonizes the Angolan Mandate. Even one percent off from this precise balance will give leadership to the faction with the most influence (likely leading to a Civil War later on, with the disaffected faction rising up).

    PLUAA
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mpla.png
Official Name: Partido da Luta Unida Africana por Angola, Union of African Socialist States (Civil War victory), Republic of Angola (OFN Decolonization)
Ruling Party: Partido da Luta Unida Africana por Angolanote
Ideology: Pan-Africanismnote , Left-Wing Nationalismnote  (OFN Decolonization)

  • Civil War: If either the Reichstaat or the OFN coalition government collapse, the PLUAA will fight UNITA for control over Angola.
  • Dark Horse Victory: Initially, the PLUAA is smaller and has less of a presence than UNITA, but they can potentially be given control over Angola if the OFN favors them.
  • Proxy War: Japan will support the PLUAA in the Angolan civil war against the American-backed UNITA.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: PLUAA was a real-life organization, but its role in this timeline is analogous to the more well-known MPLA, to the point of being led by MPLA leader, Agostinho Neto. There is in-universe justification too.note
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: Neto's organization is seen as a band of terrorists by the RK Südwestafrika colonial administration.

Agostinho Neto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_angola_agostinho_neto.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III, OFN decolonization)
Party: Partido da Luta Unida Africana por Angolanote
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

  • Enemy Mine: If the Coalition Government of Angola is set up by the OFN, Neto is willing to cooperate and receive help from them, but he makes it clear that their partnership is only maintained at a limited extent.

Namibia

    Republic of Namibia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/namibia.png
Official Name: Republic of Namibia
Ruling Party: South-West Africa People's Organisation
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

  • Balkanize Me: If the Reichstaat achieves enough Devastation, Namibia will splinter into four different states.
  • The Coup: If the Namibischer Staat is established, the Namibians will revolt and coup the government, effortlessly restoring their independence in the process.

Sam Nujoma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_namibia_sam_nujoma.png
Role: Head of State (Reichstaat collapse)
Party: South-West Africa People's Organization
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: When the Reichstaat faces a rebellion in Windhoek, Nujoma will pay a visit to the city, waving and cheering with the mob. He escapes before the Reichstaat can punish him.
  • Government in Exile: If the OFN wins the South African War and Namibia is re-annexed by South Africa, Nujoma will flee to southern Angola and form a government-in-exile with the help of the PLUAA.

    Ovamboland
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_ovamboland.png
Official Name: Republic of Ovamboland
Ruling Party: Ovamboland People's Congress - Panafricanist
Ideology: Pan-Africanismnote
Ovamboland is a warlord state established in north-western Namibia.

Andimba Toivo ya Toivo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_ovamboland_andimba_toivo_ya_toivo.png
Role: Head of Government (Nujoma cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage III, Ovamboland War of Independence)
Party: Ovamboland People's Congress - Panafricanist (African Devastation stage III)
Ideology: Socialism, Pan-Africanismnote  (African Devastation stage III)

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL, Toivo was an anti-apartheid activist who strongly advocated Namibian independence, even being personal friends with the more well-known Nelson Mandela. Owing to different circumstances from German colonization in this timeline, Toivo can lead a splinter state in Ovamboland, either in a war for independence against Namibia or the African Devestation Stage III scenario.

    Hereroland
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_hereroland.png
Official Name: Hereroland Republic
Ruling Party: National Unity Democratic Organisation - Riruako's Faction

Kuaima Riruako

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_hereroland_kuaima_riruako.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: National Unity Democratic Organisation - Riruako's Faction
Ideology: Civilian Dictatorshipnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In this timeframe for OTL, Riruako was just a student and would only pursue politics in later decades. Here, the devastation brought by the Nazis pushes Riruako into the political scene much sooner.

    Luftkreis Südwestafrika
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/luftkreis.png
Official Name: Luftkreis SüdwestafrikaTr.
Ruling Party: Luftkreis SüdwestafrikaTr.
Ideology: Warlordismnote
Luftkreis Südwestafrika is a warlord state established after African Devastation stage III, in central Namibia.
  • The Remnant: Luftkreis Südwestafrika is what's left of the German Luftwaffe in Südwestafrika.

Wolfgang Reinhold

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_reichsstaatluftwaffe_wolfgang_reinhold.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Luftkreis SüdwestafrikaTr.
Ideology: Warlordismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL, Reinhold was captured by the victorious Soviets and later released so that he could serve numerous military positions in East Germany. The Axis victory in World War II meant that he would never have the chance to collaborate with the Soviets and instead remained in the Luftwaffe, where he may lead a German remnant state in Africa, if the Devastation reaches stage III.

Uganda

    State of Uganda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_uganda.png
Official Name: State of Uganda, Kingdom of Uganda (Mutesa II), Republic of Uganda (Okello and Kiwanuka)
Ruling Party: House of Abalasangeye, Uganda National Liberation Front (Amin), Uganda National Liberation Party (Okello), Uganda People's Congress (Obote), Democratic Party (Kiwanuka)
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote , Revolutionary Nationalismnote , Controlled Democracynote

  • Balkanize Me: Uganda remains in one piece in most of the decolonization scenarios except the African Devastation, where it is divided into Uganda and Tooro.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: As much as they despise the Reichstaat, the various warlords in Uganda spend as much time fighting each other, such as how these factions fight over several coastal towns.

Mutesa II

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_uganda_mutesa_ii.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage I and II)
Party: House of Abalasangeye
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote

  • Uncertain Doom: If Idi Amin launches a coup against him, Mutesa II flees before he can be executed, with his prestige permanently ruined and his fate unclear.

Idi Amin Dada

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_uganda_idi_amin_dada.png
Role: Military Commander, Foreign Minister (Mutesa II and Amin cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage III, OFN Decolonization)
Party: Uganda National Liberation Front
Ideology: Revolutionary Nationalismnote

  • The Caligula: Amin is a brutish African warlord whose cruelty is well known throughout Africa. Westmoreland, during the Quelimane Conference, is discouraged from granting him control over Uganda and instead favoring Okello.
  • The Coup: If the Reichstaat lasts too long, Amin will launch a raid on the royal compound of Mengo Palace to capture and possibly execute King Mutesa II. While Mutesa is able to escape with the help of the Reichstaat garrison, his prestige has been forever tarnished, and Amin becomes the new dominant power in the former Kingdom of Buganda.

Tito Okello

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_tooro_tito_okello.png
Role: Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Uganda National Liberation Party
Ideology: Controlled Democracynote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Okello in OTL was a partisan against Idi Amin, fighting in favor of Milton Obote; he then became President of Uganda in 1985 by overthrowing Obote, lasting only six months. Here, he can be made President of Uganda much sooner by Westmoreland, but with Idi Amin agitating against him, instead.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: If the OFN East African Mandate holds the Quelimane conference, Westmoreland must choose between Tito Okello, the OFN's favorite, and Idi Amin to lead Uganda. About the only thing recommending the former is that he is not the latter, and if chosen, Idi Amin will destabilize his regime using his connections in every Ugandan organization.

Apollo Milton Obote

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_uganda_milton_obote.png
Role: Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Uganda People's Congress
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Obote can play a key role in decolonizing Uganda, but from the United States instead of the United Kingdom like in OTL.

Benedicto Kagimu Mugumba Kiwanuka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_uganda_benedicto_kiwanuka.png
Role: Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Democratic Party

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Much like how he played a role in British decolonization from OTL, Kiwanuka can also aid in Ugandan decolonization from the OFN Mandates.

Tito Okello

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_tooro_tito_okello.png

Party: Rwenzururu Movement
Ideology: Controlled Democracynote

Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote  (Kingdom of Rwanda), National Liberalismnote  (OFN Decolonization), Revolutionary Nationalismnote  (African Devastation Stage II), Stratocracynote  (African Devastation Stage III)

  • King on His Deathbed: The king of Rwanda, Mutara III, is bedridden by the time Hüttig establishes the Reichstaat and dies shortly thereafter.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: After the death of Mutara III, various competitors vie for control over his throne, despite being united in their opposition to the Reichstaat.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_rwanda_kigeli_v.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage I, OFN decolonization)
Party: House of Abanyiginya
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote

  • Rebel Leader: Shortly after being crowned, German authorities will invite Kigeli to cooperate with them, but Kigeli refuses and sends them a letter detailing his refusal. He then leads Rwandan resistance to the German authorities, declaring an independent kingdom if German rule collapses in the country.
  • Rightful King Returns: When decolonizing the East African mandate, Westmoreland can choose to restore the Kingdom of Rwanda under Kigeli.

Role: Military Commander, Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Akazu[[/note]]Little House[[/note]]
Ideology: Stratocracynote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL, Bagosora was most infamously known for playing a chief role in the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Here, the African Devastation has jumpstarted Bagosora's political position decades earlier and he is no less vile either.

Party: Union pour le Progrès Nationalnote
Ideology: Paternalism, Military Juntanote  (Mwambutsa IV killed)

  • Unexpected Successor: After all of Burundi's other successors are overthrown by the militia, the crown fell to Michel, which was not expected by the Reichstaat, at least.

Ernest Kabushemeye

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_burundi_ernest_kabushemeye.png
Role: Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Rassemblement du Peuple Burundaisnote
Ideology: National Liberalismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: The real-life Kabushemeye was a staunch advocate for democracy and held numerous political positions, like Minister for Mines and Energy department, before getting assassinated in 1995. Decades earlier in this timeline, he can be installed as a leader for Burundi, in case of an OFN decolonization.

Jean-Baptiste Bagaza

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_burundi_jean_baptiste_bagaza.png
Role: Security Minister (Mwambusta IV, Micombero, and Bagaza cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage III)

Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage I)
Party: Luoland People’s National Union

  • Hope Bringer: By working with Odinga's Luo Thrift and Trading Corporation, the two encourage an upswell of Luo nationalism and that drives them to resist Hüttig.

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_luoland_jaramogi_oginga_odinga.png
Role: Military Commander, Head of State (African Devastation stage II and III)
Party: Luoland People’s National Union
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

  • Chummy Commies: He's a socialist who fights for Luo independence from the brutal Reichstaat through relatively non-violent means.
  • Hope Bringer: His benign acts of revolt against the Reichstaat have encouraged countless other Luo people to follow his cause.
  • Rebel Leader: He conducts low-level resistance actions against the Reichstaat, which draws less attention compared to the more bombastic rebel groups.
  • Secret Identity: During his war of resistance, Odinga calls him "the Ker", an indigenous term that claims him to be the representative of the Luo people.
  • Wealthy Philanthropist: In 1947, Odinga started a private company called "Luo Thrift and Trading Corporation" that was meant to advance the interests of the Luo people by establishing business for them. Even though it was dismantled in 1949, Odinga revives it if Hüttig takes over.

Tanganyika/Zanzibar

    Republic of Tanganyika
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_tanganyika.png

  • Propaganda Machine: Under the Reichstaat, they mount a massive propaganda campaign against them to inspire the populace to resist them.

Julius Nyerere

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_tanganyka_julius_nyerere.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage I)
Party: Tanganyika African National Union
Ideology: African Socialismnote

  • Chummy Commies: Nyerere is fighting for Tanganyikan independence and is one of the more moderate and reasonable socialists in Africa.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: After the All-African Summit completely fails, Nyerere is one of the three African leaders who are willing to cooperate with the Americans in the Central African Republic to help decolonize.
  • Who Needs Enemies?: If the OFN conquers the Africa-Schild and establishes the CAR, they can start looking for allies among various socialist groups, including TANU. Nyerere isn't enthusiastic about working with imperialists, but decides to bring it up with the rest of TANU's leadership when his advisors point out the benefits of allying with the OFN versus trying to rebuild Tanganyika themselves.

Edward Sokoine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_tanganyika_edward_sokoine.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage II and III)
Party: Tanganyika African National Union
Ideology: Pan-Africanismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In the real-life 1960's, Sokoine was a minor politician before he became a more well-known Prime Minister. Due to the radically different circumstances from the African Devastation, Sokoine is put into a position of power far earlier.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_tanganyika_david_musuguri.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Tanganyika Defense Front
Ideology: Military Juntanote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: Musuguri in OTL was mostly a military officer who fought in multiple battles, but never assumed a political occupation. Here, the destruction of Tanganyika in the African Devastation can give him his own warlord state to rule over.

    Zanzibar Socialist Republic

Official Name: Zanzibar Socialist Republic

Abdulrahman Mohamed Babu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zanzibar_abdulrahman_mohamed_babu.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Ideology: Pan-Africanismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL, Babu was an anti-colonialist advocate who played a key role in the Zanzibar Revolution, but he never became a head of state, like in this timeline's African Devastation.

    Sultanate of Zanzibar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sultinate_of_zanzibar_flag.png

Ruling Party: House of Al Said
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote , Military Juntanote  (after coup)
Short-lived Sultanate ruled by House of Al Said, overthrown by John Okello shortly after establishment.
  • Allohistorical Allusion: In our timeline, the Sultanate was couped by John Okello and replaced with the People’s Republic of Zanzibar. The same can happen in TNO.
  • Puppet State: If Tanganyika conquers Zanzibar, they can convert the country into a puppeted socialist republic under the leadership of Karume.

Role: Head of State (Coast annexed by Tanganyika)
Party: House of Al Said
Ideology: Interim Governmentnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: Baloch was just a Chief of the Zanzibar Police Force in OTL, but he can outright lead the country in this timeline if Tanganyika invade and annex the coast, leaving him to take charge of the House of Al Said.

Abeid Amani Karume

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zanzibar_abeid_karume.png
Role: Head of State (OFN East Africa Mandate collapse, Tanganyika puppet)
Party: Afro-Shirazi Party
Ideology: African Socialismnote

  • Voluntary Vassal: After Tanganyika invades Zanzibar, Karume voluntarily reorganizes the country into a vassal state of theirs, keeping the islands while the coast is annexed.

    Freedom Military Force
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_zanzibar_january_1964.png
Official Name: Freedom Military Force
Ruling Party: Freedom Military Force
Ideology: Esoteric Despotismnote
Warlord State in Tanganyika appears in the collapse after African Devastation stage III.
  • African Terrorists: The Freedom Military Force is a clique of African ultranationalists who seek to violently overthrow all European and American control over the continent, committing various bombints, shootings, and kidnappings to achieve their goals.
  • The Dreaded: After the Freedom Military Force sends a series of letters swearing to wage a terror war against the United States in Africa, most begin to fear what the group may intend to do.
  • Enemy Civil War: The FMF grows even stronger under the CAR than it does the East African mandate, but undergoes a schism with its Christian fundamentalist members under the banner of the Faithful Military Force. Depending on whether they are settling things diplomatically or with military force, the CAR can support one against the other or strike both when they are vulnerable.
  • Enemy Mine: When the Freedom Military Force falls into an internal conflict with the Faithful Military Force, the United States has the option to help either one to both show the native Africans that they desire peace and to gain the loyalty of whomever they help.

John Okello

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zanzibar_john_okello.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)

    SS Division Hindenburg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reichstaat_flag.png
Official Name: SS Division Hindenburg
Ruling Party: SS Division Hindenburg
Ideology: Esoteric Nazismnote

  • Developer's Foresight: After passing stage 2, Franz has a chance of dying before the Reichstaat's collapse. If this occurs, the SS Division Hindenburg will not form and its normal territory is given to the Zanzibar Socialist Republic.
  • The Remnant: The SS Division Hindenburg is a Reichstaat remnant in northeastern Tanganyika, north of Dar es Salaam, in the African Devastation scenario.

Kurt Franz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_reichsstaatdaressalaam_kurt_franz.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: SS Division Hindenburg
Ideology: Esoteric Nazismnote

  • Cruel and Unusual Death: If Franz fails to hold the Reichstaat's control over Ruanda-Urundi, he'll be captured, brutally tortured and left for dead by the rebels. When the SS finally finds him, they have trouble identifying him, as he's been partially eaten by animals, and their best doctors cannot save him.
  • Kick the Dog: When giving a report on the death of Mutara III, Rwanda's king, Franz flatly declares his apathy to the development and informs Hüttig that he will monitor his heir.

East Africa

    East African Federation
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/east_africa_federation.png
Official Name: East African Federation
Ruling Party: East African Federation - Democratic Union (Liberalism), East African Federation - African National Union (Socialism)
Ideology: Classical Liberalismnote , African Socialismnote  (Nyerere)
A federation of East African states that can emerge from a successfully decolonized OFN East Africa.
  • Allohistorical Allusion: The country uses the OTL flag of the East African Community, not including the emblem.
  • The Federation: As its name would indicate, the East African Federation unites the numerous disparate ethnic groups in East Africa under a federative system of governance.
  • Space-Filling Empire: The East African Federation encompasses the territories of Tanganyika, Zanzibar, Comoros, Luoland, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Nyasaland, and Northern Mozambique.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_nyasaland.png
Official Name: State of Nyasaland

Hastings Kamuzu Banda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_rombesia_hastings_kamuzu_banda.png
Role: Military Commander, Head of Government (Banda and Musopole cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage I)
Party: Nyasaland Congress Party
Ideology: Personalistic Dictatorshipnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: The OTL Banda was busy advocating Nyasaland's independence from Britain and being appointed its Prime Minister when he succeeded, before he turned the country into his personal dictatorship. In the African Devastation of this timeline, Banda is a dictator from the get-go, assuming power when the Reichstaat has collapsed.

Flax Katoba Musopole

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_rombesia_flax_katoba_musopole.png
Role: Military Commander, Security Minister (Banda and Musopole cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage II and III)
Party: Nyasaland Congress Party - Hardliners
Ideology: Fascist Populismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL, Musopole was an ally of Banda who supported him in the Cabinet Crisis of 1964 and cemented the establishment of his regime. In the African Devastation stages II or III in this timeline, Musopole can head a regime of his own, taking advantage of the power vacuum left behind by the Reichstaat.

    Bemba Kingdom
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crw_bemba.png
Official Name: Bemba Kingdom
Ruling Party: 33rd Citimukulu

Party: 33rd Citimukulu
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote

  • Rightful King Returns: After decades of brutal colonial rule, the Bemba Kingdom can restore King Kafula Musungu Citimukulu XXXIV back into power.

Mozambique

    Popular Republic of Mozambique
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_mozambique_1975_1983.png
Official Name: Popular Republic of Mozambique, People's Republic of Mozambique (Civil war victory)
Ruling Party: Frente de Libertação de Moçambiquenote
Ideology: African Socialismnote

  • Civil War: Machel’s overthrow of the government will bring the country into a civil war. It can become three-sided if the United States backs Simango’s uprising.
  • Failed State: Mozambique can collapse if the civil war drags on for too long. Local warlords will hold all power, with the country being described as too devastated for any of them to unseat each other. An ominous news event dubs the situation “Mozambique Abattoir.” By trying to draw the country into their sphere of influence, America and Japan can end up blowing a death blow to the country. The foreign powers will withdraw all troops when they realize there’s nothing left to fight for, leaving the country to its fate.
  • Proxy War: Mozambique becomes one for America and Japan, who support Mondlane and Machel respectively.

Eduardo Mondlane

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_gazaland_eduardo_mondlane.png
Role: Head of State (Reichstaat collapse, OFN decolonization)
Party: Frente de Libertação de Moçambiquenote
Ideology: African Socialismnote

  • Choosing Neutrality: Although the Americans prefer Mondlane over a pro-Japanese regime, they don't gain anything from supporting him. After achieving victory, all American troops will leave Mozambique, and Mondlane will pursue a neutral foreign policy.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: If he's captured by the Reichstaat, it's implied that he'll be tortured to get information about the resistance in Mozambique.
  • Enemy Mine: Mondlane is a socialist, nationalist, and Cold War critic, which would naturally make him wary of the United States. However, in the Mozambique Civil War, both can be forced to work together because Mondlane's opponent Machel is supported by the Japanese, so the United States considers Mondlane the lesser evil and sends aid to him.
  • Hidden Elf Village: His goal, as noted by Westmoreland, is to turn Gazaland into this, as he and his followers demand an end to all military aid, including from the United States. Westmoreland can still choose him to lead Gazaland, however, if it means one less war to fight.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Mondlane is a dashing resistance fighter who expects the Americans to help him fight the Germans and then immediately cut ties with the former once their mutual enemy is dealt with. He believes that this plan would go on without a hitch, seemingly unaware that it would make Westmoreland furious and less likely to grant him control over Mozambique.

Samora Machel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_gazaland_samora_machel.png
Role: Security Minister (Mondlane cabinet), Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: Frente de Libertação de Moçambiquenote
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

  • Every Man Has His Price: Should the OFN take over and establish the mandates, Westmoreland can pick Machel over Mondlane to lead Gazaland should he choose to cooperate with the socialists. His main fear with Machel is that, although he is willing to work with the OFN, he might be just as willing to switch sides to Japan for the right price, paving the way for future conflict.
  • Occupiers Out of Our Country: Machel will rebel against Mondlane in the Mozambique Civil War because he perceives his collaboration with the OFN as a form of neocolonialism that allows them to continue oppressing their nation.
  • Realpolitik: Machel is disgusted that he needs to rely on Japan to win the Mozambique Civil War, well-aware that their anti-colonialist rhetoric is window dressing at best. However, the OFN has already thrown their weight behind Machel's enemies and he needs another superpower to even the odds, so he reluctantly take Japan's aid.
  • The Usurper: If Mondlane is in charge of Mozambique, then Machel will overthrow him with Japanese assistance, starting a civil war between the pro-Mondlane and pro-Machel halves of the country.

    Abteilung Ostafrika
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/abtost.png
Official Name: Arbeitsgruppe Experimentalmedizin - Abteilung OstafrikaTr.
Ruling Party: Schrader's Clique
Ideology: Technocratic Nazismnote

  • The Remnant: Abteilung Ostafrika is a Reichstaat remnant in Mozambique in the African Devastation scenario.

Gerhard Schrader

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_reichsstaatquelimane_gerhard_schrader.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Schrader's Clique
Ideology: Technocratic Nazismnote

  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: Dr Schrader leads a group of Nazi scientists, who conduct unethical experiments under Hans Hüttig's regime.

People's Liberation Army of Mozambique / Mozambique Liberation Front
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_renamo.png
Official Name: People's Liberation Army of Mozambique, Mozambique Liberation Front (African Devastation Stage III)
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote , Social Nationalismnote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Their flag is the original flag of the Mozambican National Resistance, better known as RENAMO.
  • Proxy War: If Hüttig never reached devastation level 3, the People's Liberation Army will rebel against the pro-OFN Mondlane, receiving aid from Japan in their conflict.

Samora Machel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_gazaland_samora_machel.png
Role: Security Minister (Mondlane cabinet), Head of State (Mozambique Civil War)
Party: Frente de Libertação de Moçambiquenote
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote
See his entry in the Popular Republic of Mozambique folder.

Amos Sumane

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_gazaland_amos_sumane.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Mozambique Liberation Front
Ideology: Social Nationalismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: The real-life Sumane was an obscure figure in the 1960's and he would rise to prominence in the next decade, where he led a rebel group in the Mozambique Civil War. In this timeline, Sumane can rise much earlier as an African warlord in the Devastation.

    Republic of Mozambique
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tno_rombesia_aka_nyasaland.png
Official Name: Republic of Mozambique
Ruling Party: Frente de Libertação de Moçambiquenote
Ideology: Social Democracynote

  • Dark Horse Victory: Simango's republic owns the least amount of territory in the Mozambique Civil War, but with enough aid from the OFN, he can emerge victorious in the conflict.
  • Proxy War: The Republic can emerge as a third side in the Mozambique Civil War, if the United States chooses to support Simango instead of Mondlane and prioritizes their interests in Africa.

Uria Simango

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_gazaland_uria_simango.png
Role: Head of State (Mozambique Civil War)
Party: Frente de Libertação de Moçambiquenote
Ideology: Social Democracynote

  • The Quisling: Simango is the most willing leader in Mozambique to support American interests. Should they back his uprising, he will join the OFN if Mondlane and Machel are defeated.

Zambia

    Republic of Zambia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_zambia.png
Official Name: Republic of Zambia, State of Zambia (Kamanga)
Ruling Party: United National Independence Party
Ideology: African Socialismnote , National Liberalismnote , Civilian Dictatorshipnote  (African Devastation Stage II and III)

  • Balkanize Me: The State of Zambia will balkanize into three different countries if the Reichstaat reaches at least Devastation Stage II.

Kenneth Kaunda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zambia_kenneth_kaunda.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage I, OFN decolonization)
Party: United National Independence Party
Ideology: African Socialismnote

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite his anti-colonialist stance, Kaunda is open to cooperating with the United States to help the Central African Republic peacefully decolonize.

Simon Kapwepwe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zambia_simon_kapwepwe.png
Role: Head of State (OFN decolonization)
Party: United National Independence Party - Pro-Western
Ideology: National Liberalismnote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Kapwepwe can play a major role in Zambia's independence by negotiating with the OFN, similar to his own talks with the British from OTL.

Reuben Kamanga

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zambia_reuben_kamanga.png
Role: Military Commander, Head of Government (Kaunda and Kamanga cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage II and III)
Party: United National Independence Party - Hardliners
Ideology: Civilian Dictatorshipnote

  • Historical Villain Upgrade: The real-life Kamanga was a Zambian freedom fighter and statesman, but never had ambitions to lead a dictatorship like in this timeline.

    Zambian Popular Front
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zbo.png
Official Name: Zambian Popular Front
Ideology: Social Nationalismnote

Michael Grigg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zambia_michael_grigg.png
Role: Military Commander, Security Minister (Kaunda and Kamanga cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Ideology: Social Nationalismnote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Michael Grigg in OTL was appointed the first major general of the Zambian Army by Kenneth Kaunda. Under the CAR, he can still come to Kaunda's service, albeit under much more exciting circumstances.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Grigg may be a mercenary, but he will not stand for the assassination of an African leader so that ex-Rhodesians can create a white supremacist state.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: If the OFN conquers the Afrika-Schild and establishes the Central African Republic, Michael Grigg serves as a mercenary hired to guard a run-down town for $5 million. When he discovers the job is part of a Anglo-supremacist plot to assassinate Kenneth Kaunda and re-establish minority white rule, he deserts and offers his services to Kaunda, eliminating the Rhodesian ultranationalists and earning himself a position in Kaunda's government.
  • Token Good Teammate: Unlike most of the mercenaries brought in by the OFN to help stabilize their rule over Africa, Grigg genuinely wants to help the native Africans achieve independence. When he learns of a plot to assassinate Kaunda, Grigg warns him of the threat and offers to help whenever he can.

    Kingdom of Barotseland
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_barotseland.png
Official Name: Kingdom of Barotseland (African Devastation Stage II), Socialist State of Barotseland (African Devastation Stage III)
Ruling Party: Royal Party
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote  (Kingdom of Barotseland), Pan-Africanismnote  (Socialist State of Barotseland)

  • Pyrrhic Victory: During the Quelimane Conference, Westmoreland can grant independence to Barotseland, but he's warned that doing so would establish a kingdom in a territory that many other states compete for control over and may result in the kingdom's demise anyway.

Mwanawina III

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_barotseland_mwanawina_iii.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage II)
Party: Royal Party
Ideology: Absolute Monarchynote

  • Occupiers Out of Our Country: Forced into manipulative and cruel treaties, Mwanawina views both the former colonial powers and other African groups as oppressors of the Lozi people. He will ask Westmoreland for an independent Barotse kingdom at the Quelimane conference.

Mishake Muyongo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_barotseland_mishake_muyongo.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Barotse African National Union
Ideology: Pan-Africanismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL, Muyongo was President of the Caprivi African National Union, where he participated in the fight to liberate Namibia from South Africa. Since South Africa does not own Namibia in this timeline, Myongo instead can lead a Namibian warlord state after the Reichstaat collapses.

Zimbabwe

    Zimbabwe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_of_zimbabwe.png
Official Name: Republic of Zimbabwe
Ruling Party: People's Republic of Zimbabwe
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote , Social Nationalismnote  (African Devestation)

Joshua Nkomo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zimbabwe_joshua_nkomo.png
Role: Head of State (Reichstaat collapse)
Party: Zimbabwe African People's Union
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

  • Uncertain Doom: When Nkomo disappears, no one is certain of his fate, in which people argue over whether he's dead, secretly alive, or if someone has taken his identity.

Robert Mugabe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zimbabwe_robert_mugabe.png
Role: Security Minister (Nkomo and Mugabe cabinet), Head of State (Nkomo killed)
Party: Zimbabwe African National Union
Ideology: Social Nationalismnote

  • African Terrorists: In the aftermath of the Reichstaat's collapse and the eruption of the third civil war in South Africa, Mugabe sends enforcers to the Madikizela United Football Club, in the process turning it into a terrorist organisation following his deranged version of nationalism.
  • Berserk Button: Using colonial names for African names is a big one for Mugabe. When he attends the All-African Summit and Westmoreland convenes the meeting in Salisbury instead of Harare, his face morphs into one of fury.
  • Persecution Flip: When the Reichstaat collapses, Mugabe will begin leading terrorist attacks against the white civilians still left in Africa, continuing the cycle of persecution.

Canaan Sodindo Banana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zimbabwe_canaan_banana.png
Role: Head of State (Botswana victory)
Party: Zimbabwe Democratic Party
Ideology: Christian Conservatismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: In OTL 1960's, Banana was living in exile in the United States, as many of his colleagues faced arrest. Here, he can become Zimbabwe's head of state much earlier, due to Zimbabwe losing their war against Botswana.

    Zimbabwe National Front
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zmo.png
Official Name: Zimbabwe National Front
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

Leopold Takawira

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_zimbabwe_leopold_takawira.png
Role: Head of Government (Nkomo and Mugabe cabinet), Economy Minister (Nkomo and Mugabe cabinet), Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Ideology: Left-Wing Nationalismnote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: Takawira was vice-president of ZANU in OTL, where he would spend most of the 1960's in Rhodesian detainment, until his death. Here, Takawira would never be imprisoned and can lead a Zimbabwe splinter state in the African Devastation stage III.

    Kolonialverwaltung Sambesi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/totallynotrhodesia.png
Official Name: Kolonialverwaltung SambesiTr.
Ruling Party: Sambesi Emergency Government
Ideology: Corporatismnote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Sambesi is the closest analogue to Rhodesia in this timeline, as it's a pariah nation created by white supremacist British settlers attempting to maintain their minority rule over the native Africans in Zimbabwe. Even Sambesi's leader, Clifford Dupont, was a Rhodesian politician in OTL.
    • Furthermore, the flag of Sambesi is based off of the flag of the Rhodesian Front, the ruling party of Rhodesia during its period of independence.
  • Les Collaborateurs: During Hüttig's reign, the British settlers who didn't flee from Rhodesia to South Africa collaborated in his oppression of natives and have since become influential landowners and politicians in the Kolonialverwaltung Sambesi.
  • Foil: The Kolonialverwaltung Sambesi (Colonial Administration of Zambezi) acts as one to the State of Katanga. While both are white-dominated states seeking to maintain their power, the Rhodesians running their pariah nation justify the status quo as much out of convenience as it is their birthright. This stands in contrast to the Belgians in Katanga, who uphold their rule out of naked survival and because of the Burgundian nightmare, they have nowhere else to go.
  • Foreign Ruling Class: It is a pariah nation created by white supremacist British settlers attempting to maintain their minority rule over Zimbabwe's native peoples.
  • Meet the New Boss: The White Rhodesians, free of the Reichkommisariate and Hüttig's rule, intend to maintain the existing colonial structure, only with themselves in clear control.
  • The Remnant: The Kolonialverwaltung Sambesi is a remnant of the Reichstaat colonial administration in Zimbabwe.

Clifford Dupont

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_reichsstaatsambia_clifford_dupont.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage III)
Party: Sambesi Emergency Government
Ideology: Corporatismnote

  • Evil Colonialist: Dupont enthusiastically participates in the Ostafrikan administration, feeding the native population into Hüttig's death machine.
  • First-World Problems: When meeting with Westmoreland, Dupont will offhandedly mention that the British settlers suffered under the reign of Hüttig, implying that Westmoreland should let them keep their property out of sympathy and keep the native Africans at a lower social class. Westmoreland rightfully points out that whatever suffering the British have suffered is nothing compared to the outright enslavement and genocide Hüttig committed against the Africans, intimidating Dupont into backtracking when he threatens to tell Mugabe about his comment.
  • Former Regime Personnel: In the OFN SAW victory scenario, the East African Interim Unity Government can choose to find a job for Dupont and his cronies in the post-decolonisation administration, as even though these British colonists worked with the Germans, they knew how to govern Rhodesia before their defeat.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: In OTL, Dupont was not only among the first after Ian Smith to sign Rhodesia's Unilateral Declaration of Independence, but also served as the rogue state's first figurehead president. In TNO, Dupont is shown to be an enthusiastic collaborator of the Ostafrikan administration, as well as Hüttig's Reichstaat, and could potentially become the undisputed leader of Kolonialverwaltung Sambesi should the African Devastation occur.
  • The Quisling: To keep their property in the Kolonialverwaltung Sambesi, Dupont and the other British settlers of the region submitted to Ostafrika by helping them enslave the native Africans.
  • Too Good for Exploiters: Dupont and his Rhodesian collaborators eagerly savored what little privileges they had under Hüttig. With the Reichstaat's collapse, they not only aim to keep those benefits but also secure their place on top of Sambesi's social hierarchy.

Botswana

    Republic of Botswana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/botswana.png
Official Name: Republic of Botswana, Botswana-Zimbabwe Democratic Front (Victory against Zimbabwe)
Ruling Party: Botswana-Zimbabwe Democratic Party
Ideology: Paternalistic Conservatismnote , Military Juntanote  (African Devastation Stage II and III)

  • Balkanize Me: Surprisingly Subverted. Unlike nearly every other region in Africa, Botswana will never balkanize, regardless of how much damage is committed by the Reichstaat before its inevitable collapse.
  • Disaster Democracy: Botswana remains a beacon of democratic governance and sanity, no matter what Hüttig does.

Seretse Khama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_botswana_seretse_khama.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage I)
Party: Botswana-Zimbabwe Democratic Party
Ideology: Paternalistic Conservatismnote

  • Allohistorical Allusion: Seretse Khama served as the first president of Botswana, a post he held from 1966 to his death in 1980. He can end up ruling the country in TNO if Botswana emerges from the collapse of the Reichstaat.
  • Royal Blood: Khama is the son of Sekgoma Khama II, the paramount chief of the Bamangwato people, and the grandson of Khama III, their king.

Josiah Gondo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portrait_botswana_josiah_gondo.png
Role: Head of State (African Devastation stage II and III)
Ideology: Military Juntanote

  • Richard Nixon, the Used Car Salesman: The OTL Gondo is most well-known for being a black Rhodesian politician who would oppose Ian Smith in the Rhodesian House of Assembly. With Germany in control of sub-Saharan Africa in this timeline, Gondo has no relation with Smith and is now a potential warlord in the African Devastation.

Comoros
