The Skysurfers

Group Tropes

  • Badass Crew: Time and time again, these five heroes stop the evil machinations of a man with a computer brain and his army of deadly cyborgs.
  • Flying Car: The cars can only fly if they transform into hoverboards. Because the hoverbards are the size of their cars, the team also has some room to maneuver.
  • Henshin Hero: With their digitran watches, the Skysurfer go though this technical, abrupt and very '90s Transformation Sequence (which sometimes get sped-up or cut outright).
  • Oneway Visor: Most of the team are given transparent visors for their eyes during their transformation. Air Enforcer is the exception as he gets a pilot's cap with a pair of flight goggles.
  • Sky Surfing: The title of the show is a dead giveaway. As soon as the team transforms, most of the episode will showcase the team flying on the hoverboards and all the action, heroic feats and crazy stunts that go with it.
  • True Companions: They consider each other family even though they're not related by blood.

Skysurfer One (Jack Hollister)

Voiced by: Michael Donovan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Skysurfer_One_1668.gif

  • Arch-Enemy: Cybron is this for Jack. Cybron was responsible for the theft of the artificial computer brain and the explosion at the artificial intelligence lab the brain was in. These crimes were pinned on his father and now Jack won't stop until Cybron is brought to justice.
  • Clear Their Name: Serves as someone who has to exonerate his late father, Adam Hollister.
  • Dating Catwoman: Cerina, Cybron's daughter who assists him in his plans, clearly is attracted to Jack. Later episodes imply he's attracted to her as well and doesn't show the same hostility towards her as he does to the rest of her father's minions. That said, since she's the daughter of the man who framed his father and left him to die in prison, it makes the idea of Jack even considering Cerina as a proper Love Interest difficult and the show ends before anything serious could happen between them.
  • The Hero: Leader of the Sky Surfers and seeking to take Cybron down.
  • Jack of All Stats: Name puns aside, Skysurfer One, is neither the strongest or the fastest of the team nor does he have a long range fighting option like the others. Still, he's a decent enough tactician to make do with what weapons and physical tools he has.
  • Laser Blade: Jack wields an energy blade with orange, flame-like energy. He is able to cut through wood, rock and most metals.

Crazy Stunts (Micky Flannigan)

Sliced Ice (Kimberley "Kim" Sakai)

Voiced by: Janyse Jaud
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Sliced_Ice_6284.gif

  • Action Girl: She gets into the thick of the action without hesitation.
  • Cool Sword: Kim wields a double-edged sword with empty space in the center. The sword also has freezing abilities like creating ice or frost and she can attack from a certain distance. It's cool ascetically and literally.
  • Lady of War: A badass, skysurfing, sword fighter that doesn't sacrifice any poise or grace in battle.
  • Martial Arts Headband: Wears a headband that is similar to the rising sun headband.
  • Most Common Superpower: Kim was gifted with a large bust line, this is emphasized by her transformation sequence as one shot puts focus on her midsection while her armor appears on her upper abs then curves inward under her breasts.
  • Of Corsets Sexy: Her costume includes a metal corset/bustier.
  • One of the Boys/Tomboy: While having a feminine side, Kim is just as tough as the others while fighting the borgs and doesn't dress very girly outside of that.
  • Punny Name: "Sliced Ice" is an anagram for "Slice Dice" as in "Slice and Dice".
  • Science Hero: She is able to analyze things with her microscope and her knowledge leans towards biology.
  • The Smart Guy: Jack usually goes to Kim for advice on how to proceed in missions and she is also knowledgeable in biology.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only woman on the Skysurfers team, not that anyone makes a big deal about it.
  • Twofer Token Minority: An Asian woman on a team of non-Asian guys.

Air Enforcer (Nathan "Nate" James)

Voiced by: Alvin Sanders
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Air_Enforcer_6156.gif

  • The Big Guy: The strongest and most physically imposing member of the Strike Force.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: He wears them, but is rarely (if ever) seen using them.
  • Mighty Glacier: Air Enforcer's abilities revolve around his being a Walking Armory and being physically powerful.
  • More Dakka: He has two shoulder mounted rocket launchers with three rockets for each shoulder, two leg mounted rocked launchers, and two Arm Cannons a different one for each arm.

Soar Loser (Brad Wright)

Voiced by: Ward Perry

The Bioborgs

Group Tropes

  • Cyborg: With the possible exception being Cerina, all of the Bioborgs are former humans who have been transformed into cyborgs with unique abilities.
  • Monochromatic Eyes/Opaque Lenses: Many of the Bioborgs have eyes without pupils and Easel wears goggles with black lenses that he never takes off. Exceptions to this are Dr. Five Eyes and Cerina, who have pupils, and Noxious, whose whole face is is covered.
  • Toyless Toyline Character: While all the Skysurfers revived their own action figures and transforming cars, the Bioborgs go left in the dust. Not even Cybron himself received a toy.
  • Two Girls to a Team: Only two of the villains are female.

Cybron

Voiced by: Alvin Sanders
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Cybron_7360.gif

  • Arch-Enemy: To Skysurfer One, who he despises among the other Sky Surfers. This is mainly due to him being the leader of the Sky Surfers, along with being son of the man he framed out to hunt him down, as well as the man his daughter Cerina is in love with.
  • Big Bad: Cybron is the leader of the Bioborgs and the one who framed Jack's father.
  • Diabolical Mastermind: He is a criminal genius who is always plotting some evil scheme with the aid of his dastardly bio borgs.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The only redeeming thing about Cybron is that he loves Cerina enough that he even worked with the Skysurfers to save her in an episode.
  • The Faceless: Going along with him being The Spook (see below), Cybron's real face is never seen on the show. The only face viewers see is the ugly metallic face that makes up his helmet.
  • Mad Scientist: To start with, he made several death machines to serve him with his plans. Many episode deals with him using mechanical and biological experiments (complete with willing and unwilling subjects) to further his own twisted goals.
  • My Brain Is Big: A unique take on the trope. Instead of squishy gray matter protruding from his head, Cybron has the computer brain he stole connected to the top of his head.
  • Neural Implanting: Cybron implanted the computer brain in his head, giving him access to all its knowledge and adding to his already established genius.
  • Power Armor: Wears a metal suit of armor that conceals his entire body.
  • Shipping Torpedo: Very much against his daughter's interest in Jack. He'll only let her seduce Jack if it will help him in any way, but wants none of the details.
  • The Spook: The series ends before his real name is ever revealed. The only person who knows it is his daughter, but she's in no hurry to tell anyone, not even Jack.

Cerina

Voiced by: Janyse Jaud
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Cerina_1748.gif

  • Ambiguously Human: The show never stated whether she was still human or a Bioborg, as she never showed any physical alterations or inhuman abilities.
  • Badass Normal: While she does not have any signature powers or weapons and does not have any hand-to-hand combat training, she is still dangerous and not to be underestimated.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Cybron's daughter.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: She clearly has a thing for Skysurfer One (which may or may not be one-sided). Her father clearly does not approve of it.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Aside from her father, there's Jack. Evil and supportive of her father she may be, but her feelings for Jack are real, enough that she once tended to his wounds after he saved her life.
  • Evil Counterpart: She's a direct villainous Foil to Skysurfer One, whom she's also in love with. Both of them are the blonde children of scientists who worked on the same supercomputer. Whereas Adam Hollister was framed and died in prison while his son Jack sets out to uncover Cybron's identity to clear his name, Cerina is the daughter of the man who framed him and willing assists in his plans to take over the world.
  • Expy: To Amber from Centurions. Mad Scientist's Beautiful Daughter? Check. Master of Disguise? Check. Has feelings for one of the heroes? Check.
  • Faux Action Girl: While she does tend to get in the middle of the action more than her father and can be dangerous enough to be something of a Dark Action Girl, she really isn't a combatant like most of the show's other characters.
  • Forceful Kiss: She kisses Jack against his will in one episode.
  • Go Seduce My Archnemesis: If he needs to, Cybron sends his daughter to seduce Skysurfer one if need be.
  • Mad Scientist's Beautiful Daughter: Despite her allegiance to her father, many comment on how attractive she is.
  • Master of Disguise: She's done this on more than one occasion. She convincingly disguised herself as Kim to get close to the rest of the Skysurfers, namely Jack.
  • Missing Mom: Cybron clearly had to have been romantically involved with someone in order to have a daughter, though who Cerina's mother is never gets brought up.
  • My Nayme Is: Her name is pronounced the same way as "Serena". Whether it's her real name or a codename that is spelled that way to be unique isn't revealed.
  • Pet the Dog: Tended to Jack's wounds when he once saved her. She also helped him clear his own name once, despite it going against her father's wishes.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: Just going by the face plate of Cybron's armor (because his actual face is never shown), he looks garrish while Cerina is quite stunning.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: She belongs to the villains of the story, but she is in love with one of the Skysurfer good guys. This love for him has caused her to go behind her father's back to help Jack.

Dr. Five Eyes

Voiced by: Richard Newman

Replicon

Voiced by: Paul Dobson

  • More Dakka: He's big into automatic weaponry and ballistics.

Noxious

Voiced by: Michael Donovan

Grenader

Voiced by: Richard Newman

  • Action Bomb: He's a variation on the trope, since he doesn't die when he explodes.
  • Dumb Muscle: He is strong, but tends to be outsmarted by the Skysurfers with little effort.
  • Having a Blast: He's basically a living bomb who can regenerate himself whenver he uses his power.
  • Pineapple Surprise: His Weaksauce Weakness is having his own pin pulled by one of the Skysurfers before he's ready.
  • Pulling Themselves Together: He specializes in blowing himself up, then instantly reassembling himself, over and over.

Chronozoid

Voiced by: Paul Dobson

  • Time Master: He has the power to manipulate time, which he weaponizes to attack the Sky Surfers.

Zachariah Easel

Voiced by: Terry Klassen

  • Arm Cannon: One of its functions is used to make his artwork come alive.
  • Art Initiates Life: He can bring any art he creates to life, even crazed cartoon characters.
  • Weak, but Skilled: He's shortest, least imposing and most human looking of the borgs, but his powers are invaluable to Cybron's plans.

Lazerette

Voiced by: Venus Terzo
