    Papa Louie

Papa Louie

First appeared in: Papa Louie: When Pizzas Attack!

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/papa_louie_original.png

Papa Louie is a lovable Italian chef who got his start selling delicious pizzas. He has a legion of fanatic customers who are willing to try anything Papa Louie has to offer. Whether it’s free pizza parties, or the keys to his latest restaurant, Papa Louie is always trying to reward his loyal customers!
Papa's flipdeck info

  • All Your Powers Combined: He's the only costumer in the original Flash version of Pizzeria to order all the toppings available, giving him the most complex order in the game overall. Due to the topping palette in the game's mobile ports being too large to fit within a single order, Papa's order was simplified considerably for them.
  • Badass in Distress:
    • In the second and third Papa Louie platformer games, he's imprisoned alongside a number of his employees and customers, prompting the remaining of them to rescue him at the endgame and midgame, respectively.
    • In Papa's Freezeria Deluxe, he ends up lost in the middle of Calypso Island's surrounding ocean within his boat after getting caught in a huge hurricane, prompting Captain Cori and plenty of the other citizens and visitors to look for him. He appears fine when he's eventually discovered after months of searching, however.
  • Big Good: He is the founder of the Papa Louie restaurant chain, and is often the cornerstone of motivation for the rest of the cast.
  • Chef of Iron: In addition of being a chef, he's a capable adventurer and fighter, as shown in the platformer games.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: A heroic example (unless you're Guy Mortadello or any of the other competitors of the Cluckeria). His business starts off from a small pizzeria in Tastyville. As the series progressed, his fast food empire grew bigger with each restaurant he opened, to the point of spreading all over the series' world.
  • Hero of Another Story: It's implied that he's often going out for an adventure to get better ingredients for his restaurants.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Papa has good intentions when hiring his employees, but some of his methods and the reaction of people he's trying to hire suggests otherwise.
  • Loved by All: Putting his little quirks aside, Papa Louie is beloved by everyone, thanks to his tasty meals throughout his multiple restaurants alongside his heroic deeds.
  • Manipulative Bastard: While he has no malicious intentions, he somehow manages to rope in whatever poor shmuck to work in one of his restaurants every time. Some games (especially the later ones) give a different reason why they applied, such as them working at the Hotdoggeria to get a free pass into the stadium to watch the games.
  • Pet the Dog: Papa Louie has some moments regarding his employees and their misfortunes:
    • In Cheeseria, he offers the protagonist a job at his new restaurant to help pay for replacement instruments after the original ones were stolen. They're eventually recovered, which also ends in Guy Mortadello's arrest for larceny.
    • He offers the protagonist of Bakeria a job after the store they originally signed up for shut down overnight. At the end, he gives them ownership of a replacement store of the same type.
    • He offers the protagonist a job at the recently-opened Scooperia after they tell him about Guy outright robbing them. Guy is arrested yet again for the same reason, which leads to the protagonist getting their belongings and money back, as well as a golden scooper as a gift from Papa.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: While he's seen cooking at the beginning of When Pizzas Attack!, he's mentioned to have spent the majority of the series travelling around its world and even going to different dimensions to search for the best ingredients of choice for his restaurants, instead of running the restaurants himself (leaving his employees to do the job instead).
  • Secondary Character Title: Outside of being the series' mascot and the central character of When Pizzas Attack! (as well as an optional playable character in specific Flash versions of Burgeria and Taco Mia!), Papa himself doesn't really get involved in much of the series, with the games often focused on his employees and costumers instead.
  • Supreme Chef: While we don't see him do much cooking in the games, his first restaurant was apparently successful due to contrasting food quality compared to the Mortadello's Meat Pies chain. Although that could be simply justified as being due to Mortadello constantly degrading his own food quality to favor his business, Cluckeria reveals that he had a particular secret chicken sandwich recipe that, while he left it unused, turned out to be a delight to his usual costumers when the Crumple Sisters stole it to help in their competition against Papa's Cluckeria.

    Roy

Roy

Click here to see his casual outfit.

Roy is more than a mere Pizza Delivery Boy. Ever since he was left alone at work, Roy reluctantly took on the roles of a Cook, Waiter, and General Manager of Papa's Pizzeria. When he's not prepping pizzas, Roy can usually be found running errands for his uncle, Papa Louie.
Roy's flipdeck info

  • Butt-Monkey: Not that the paper-thin nature of the games' plot would give any character plenty of unlucky moments, but Roy received a bit of this treatment in the earlier installments. The biggest instance is when he's unwillingly put into the situation of having to run the pizzeria alone while Papa is away in the original version of Papa's Pizzeria; it tells that unlike later workers, who almost always keep up a smile, Roy tends to maintain a nervous or insecure expression.note
  • Brother–Sister Team: Unlike the later default chefs pairing where they're either couples or being co-worker friends at best, Roy has this dynamic with Joy as them working together in Papa's Pizzeria due to being siblings.
  • Promoted to Playable: Male chef in Pizzeria. Notably, he's the only playable chef in the original flash version.
  • The Lancer: Sometimes he serves as this to his uncle, Papa Louie, with Roy occasionally assisting him in setting up his businesses or whatever errands Papa gives him.
  • Nervous Wreck: In earlier games, Roy was prone to bouts of being insecure and anxious whenever he's doing a given task, likely to represent his status as the resident Butt-Monkey. It's eventually toned down later on, but he still has the nervous look on occasion, such as in the picture of his flipdeck card.
  • Rule 63: If both Roy and Joy are selected as workers in Pizzeria HD, it's entirely possible to allow Roy to wear Joy's Ninjoy outfit. In turn, it's also possible to allow Joy to wear Roy's casual outfit.
  • Straight Man: While it's not shown often, he occasionally serves as this to Papa Louie. Judging from his expression when Papa gives Marty/Rita a job at Papa's Burgeria as a prize for winning the Golden Ticket Customer contest, he likely thought that it's a bad idea.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Roy's expression screams this when he discovers that Papa is charging him to run the pizzeria alone.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Rotini pasta, according to his flipdeck. Which he would order it in Pastaria during Christmas.

    Joy / Ninjoy

Joy / Ninjoy

First appeared in: Papa's Freezeria (as Ninjoy), Papa's Pizzeria To Go! (as Joy)

Joy is Papa Louie's one and only niece. With his restaurants becoming increasingly popular, Joy decided to return to Papa's Pizzeria to give her little brother a hand. Roy has fond memories of watching his big sister take part in local gymnastic tournaments. Joy even received a full scholarship to Frostfield University for her skills. However, she declined the offer and instead traveled to Sakura Bay, where she worked at random jobs around town for several years before returning home.
Joy's flipdeck info

Ninjoy is a mysterious masked girl who is a master of stealth and purveyor of sweet ninja skills. Local news claims she is a delinquent outlaw who would steal candy from a baby. However, more and more people are coming forward with accounts of Ninjoy's heroism and good deeds. Bad or good, one thing is certain: Ninjoy never misses a meal. She can almost always be found eating at one of Papa’s many restaurants.
Ninjoy's flipdeck info

  • Action Girl: As the crime-fighting Ninjoy, she is naturally this.
  • Badass in Distress: In Papa Louie 2, she's one of the citizens that ends up imprisoned in Munchmore by Radley's minions.
  • Brother–Sister Team: Unlike the later default chefs pairing where they're either couples or being co-worker friends at best, Joy has this dynamic with Roy as they working together in Papa's Pizzeria due to being siblings.
  • Clark Kenting: Ninjoy isn't outright included in the mobile ports of Pizzeria, but it introduces Joy, her true identity. Gamerias from Sushiria onwards do the same by featuring Ninjoy's outfit as Joy's Style B.
  • Connected All Along: Ninjoy initially appeared to be some random vigilante when she made her debut in Freezeria. But with her true identity as Joy being revealed in Pizzeria To Go!, she's confirmed to be Papa's niece and Roy's older sister.
  • Cool Big Sis: To Roy, judging with how he has fond memories of watching her take part in local gymnastic tournaments according to her flipdeck card. Being the mask behind Ninjoy also helps.
  • Dating Catwoman: Gender inverted, it's implied she has this dynamic with The Dynamoe if some of the social artworks are anything to go by. Outside of her vigilante persona, Joy seems to get along with him and the feeling is mutual.
  • Decomposite Character: Due to her already being in the Freezeria pack when the Pizzeria pack was released, Ninjoy and her unmasked counterpart are this in Papa Louie Pals.
  • Hero of Another Story: Her heroic acts doesn't shown directly in the games, including her rivalry with The Dynamoe.
  • Heroes Gone Fishing: Whenever she's not busy saving the city or working in Papa's Pizzeria, she could be seen ordering foods at one of Papa's restaurants on her free time.
  • Ninja: It's in the name.
  • Promoted to Playable: She's one of the playable characters in Papa Louie 2 as well as being the female chef in Pizzeria (To Go! and HD only).
  • Punny Name: Come the confirmation of Joy as Ninjoy's true identity, the latter's name blatantly stems from a pun between "Ninja" and "Joy".
  • The Reveal: When Ninjoy was first introduced in Papa's Freezeria, her real identity behind the mask remains a mystery. And while it's not directly addressed, the mobile ports of Papa's Pizzeria reveals her to be none other than Papa's niece herself, Joy.
  • She-Fu: Her attacks in Papa Louie 2 involves her throwing karate movesets.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Purple Burple and Teriyaki sauce, according to Joy's and Ninjoy's respective flipdeck.

Maggie's popularity has grown so much that residents hope she'll run for Mayor.

  • Big Eater: She shares the same huge appetite as Mitch.
  • Messy Male, Fancy Female: A rare human example with Mitch, as Maggie is the overall more dedicated worker, to the extend that she has hosted future taco eating contests in Tacodale as well as her aspiration to run for mayor. Appearance wise, she looks cleaner and more proper than Mitch with her straight hair tied in a ponytail.
  • Promoted to Playable: Female chef in Taco Mia.
  • Sombrero Equals Mexican: Whilst we don't know whether she would actually be a Mexican or not, the fact that she works at a taco restaurant and her Style H costume on Cinco De Mayo has her wear a sombrero says so.

  • Tomboy: Due to growing up with three rowdy older brothers, she can be quite rough compared to other girls, even fellow tomboys.
  • Tomboyish Baseball Cap: In her Style A.

  • Promoted to Playable: Male chef in Cheeseria.
  • The Quincy Punk: Subverted. Given his mohawk hairstyle, clothing choice, him being a punk band bassist, and his status as a closer in his debut game (Donuteria), you might think he is one. However, he is actually a rather nice person given his smiling default expression, and currently has one nemesis in the form of Guy Mortadello.
  • Symbol Motif Clothing: Spades, to go with Scarlett's hearts.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Bear claws, according to his flipdeck.

Scarlett is a feisty writer from the town of Frostfield. She is the lead singer for the band Scarlett and the Shakers. Scarlett and her boyfriend, Rudy, were the founding members of the four piece band. On top of singing during a show, she’ll also play electric organ and even bust out the old trumpet. Recently, Scarlett made an appearance at Hugo's Warped Records for the launch of their new album, Bananazooka Bop.
Scarlett's flipdeck info

Timm has been a loyal customer of Papa Louie since the very beginning. Always keeping up with the times, Timm has been evolving his look throughout the years. He finally quit his job at "Quinn, Timm, and Associates" to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion dancer.
Timm's flipdeck info

  • Put on a Bus: He was absent in the original Flash version of Freezeria, in one of the various occasions a costumer was omitted to keep earlier games' file sizes from becoming too excessive for limitations at the time. He does appear in the game's mobile and Deluxe ports released afterwards.

Cecilia is a long time fan of Papa Louie's many restaurants. Most people around town recognize Cecilia as the girl who came in 3rd on the first season of Ballroom Bash. In the last few years since her disappointing loss, Cecilia has shied away from ballroom dancing. Her last spark of hope was a job opportunity at Whiskview Dance Studio, which fell through due to it’s unexpected closure. Cecilia quickly took a job at Papa's Bakeria to pay the bills. Thankfully, after a year of hard work making pies, Papa Louie opened up Cecilia's Dance Studio so she could pursue her dreams.
Cecilia's flipdeck info

  • Cutting Off the Branches: In Bakeria, you can play as Cecilia, Timm, or a custom worker, and the ending (who got the closed establishment and what type it is) depends on which character you play as. However, Cecilia's flipdeck notes that she has the game's canonical ending, as she was eventually the one who got ownership of the closed down Dance Studio (the default establishment for the default workers).
  • Promoted to Playable: Female chef in Bakeria.

Clover is the younger sister of the popular burger chef, Marty. She is a talented drummer who can keep a solid beat at break-neck speeds. She practices daily in her garage on a quiet cul-de-sac in Burgerburgh. Clover, along with her brother are in a ska-punk band called Scarlett and the Shakers.
Clover's flipdeck info

  • Brother–Sister Team: She and Marty are siblings who are members of Scarlett and the Shakers, on top of being employees of Papa in different restaurants.
  • Dye Hard: In-Universe. She's naturally platinum blonde, but she regularly wears a dye that gives it a golden tone from Freezeria onwards. An alternate outfit gives her a green fringe to go with her Playing Card Motif within Scarlett and the Shakers.
  • Improbable Weapon User: She uses drumsticks to fight in Papa Louie 2.
  • Meaningful Name: The clubs suit of cards is often nicknamed as "clovers", and her symbolic suit in Scarlett and the Shakers is clubs.
  • Playing Card Motifs: As the drummer for "Scarlett and the Shakers", She represented with the Clubs symbol.
  • Promoted to Playable: Female chef in Sushiria.
  • Put on a Bus: She was absent in the original Flash version of Taco Mia!, in one of the various occasions a costumer was omitted to keep earlier games' file sizes from becoming too excessive for limitations at the time. She does appear in the game's mobile ports released afterwards.

Carlo grew up in the town of Portallini with his older sister Bruna and the rest of the Romano family. Even at a young age, Carlo was a natural at playing the Mandolin. Although he can now play a variety of stringed instruments, he still prefers the soft tremolo of an old Mandolin. Carlo is always eager to help aspiring musicians and even taught Marty his first chords.
Carlo's flipdeck info

  • The Band Minus the Face: One of the staples of the parade in the games is the Romano Family Quartet bus, which used to host all four members of the band. Since Scooperia, however, the Romano Family Quartet van has only three members on it due to Carlo becoming a chef in Scooperia.
  • Does Not Like Spam: His flipdeck mentions in the "Hates" entry that he dislikes coffee; notably, he's the only member of the Romano family who doesn't order it in Pancakeria.
    • That said, he doesn't seem to mind taking Papaccinos in Mocharia, though his Papaccino only has one shot of coffee mixed with two sweet toppings to dull out the already little bitter taste while including as many sweet ingredients to the mix as possible to dull said taste even further.
  • Full-Name Basis: Is always referred by his full name.
  • Promoted to Playable: Male chef in Scooperia.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: His flipdeck's "Loves" entry marks it as Italian Sausage, which is the type of sausage he orders in Hot Doggeria.

Allan was happy living in Tastyville, but during high school, he had to move with his parents to the dingy streets of Oniontown. Being the new kid, Allan got picked on by the hardened students of Oniontown High. He always stuck up for himself, even if it meant a black eye or a chipped tooth. When Allan graduated, he moved back to Tastyville. His friends were happy to see Allan, but Oniontown had definitely changed him.
Allan's flipdeck info

He's a closer in all of Taco Mia's versions, Burgeria HD & To Go!, and Paleteria To Go!.

  • All the Other Reindeer: When he moved to Oniontown, a lot of the students in Oniontown High didn't like him very much because of his new kid status. Because of this, he gets bullied and picked on a lot, to the point where he ended up getting a black eye and missing tooth.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Was a frequent bully victim during his high school days in Oniontown that even he ended up getting a black eye and missing tooth that would continue to be there since Taco Mia. His Flipdeck notes that his days in Oniontown had changed him, for better or for worse, and he also is noted to dislike bullies because of it.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Between Pizzeria and Taco Mia, he would gain a unibrow and lose a tooth. He would also have angry eyes in Taco Mia as a closer, but every game since Freezeria returns his eyes to normal.
  • Promoted to Playable: The male barista in Mocharia.
  • Put on a Bus: He was absent in the original Flash version of Burgeria, in one of the various occasions a costumer was omitted to keep earlier games' file sizes from becoming too excessive for limitations at the time. He does appear in the game's mobile ports released afterwards as a closer.
  • Toothy Issue: He lost a tooth while living in Oniontown, presumably in a fight. Not only that, but he also ended up becoming a hockey player, as established by his Style B, and that a lot of real-life hockey players seem to have missing teeth as well.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: His flipdeck gives it as Nutty Butter Cups.

Akari is a highly skilled motorcyclist who loves life in the fast lane. By day, she is an independent motorcycle courier, delivering important packages across the city at lightning speed. By night, Akari can be found revving up at the Tacodale Speedway where she'll race anyone who's up for the challenge.
Akari's flipdeck info

She's a closer in all of Taco Mia's versions and all of Sushiria's versions.

  • Asset Actor: If you give a Customer Coupon to Vincent (who normally delivers said coupons to customers) in Sushiria or later games, she will stand in for him delivering the coupon. Justified as she works as a courier.
    • In Mocharia however, since she is a worker, Rhonda (who is a truck driver) takes her job of delivering the coupon to Vincent instead. note
      • This gets even weirder when you realize that the chef is always responsible for delivering Vincent's Style B, which means that in Mocharia, theoretically Akari is still able to deliver stuff to Vincent, it's just that a Game-Breaking Bug makes her unable to deliver Customer Coupons to him.
  • Badass Biker: According to the Flipdeck, this is her job. Courier by day or racer by night, she always uses her motorcycle in her job. She even names it the ThunderVolt (although it's not mentioned in her Flipdeck).
  • Improbable Weapon User: The platforming series has her holding a banana-shaped bazooka which fires bananas.
  • Promoted to Playable: The female barista in Mocharia.

Wylan B is a high school kid who grew up in Sakura Bay. He recently had to move to Powder Point with his dad who received a new job. Although they get along at home, Wylan would be mortified if his new classmates knew his dad was their principal at Cornelius Central High. In order to keep that a secret, Wylan Bombolony simply goes by the name Wylan B. To impress the kids at school, he started practicing breakdancing and freestyle rap. Unfortunately, Wylan still has a ways to go before people take him seriously.

The music, food, decorations, and games of her parties are perfectly orchestrated. Olivia is currently pursuing her degree at Cavatelli Community College in hopes of one day becoming a professional party planner.

A few summers ago, Hacky Zak got a job running the Bumper Beans at Powder Point. Being a fun loving, laid back kind of guy, he quickly made friends with all of the workers at the park. Nowadays, Zak can always be seen goofing around the park while munching on the free snacks he gets from his concession stand buddies. His current job at the park remains a mystery, because for the last year or so, nobody has actually seen Zak “working”.
Zak's flipdeck info

  • Dreadlock Rasta: Until Cluckeria, he had dreadlocks and a bandana with red, yellow, and green on it. He also has a "job" at Powder Point, even though nobody actually knew what it is, whilst also simultaneously being a Lazy Bum.
  • Lazy Bum: According to his Flipdeck, he's a huge slacker and doesn't ever do anything at his job.
  • Obliquely Obfuscated Occupation: His current job in Powder Point is unknown, as no other staff members there have seen him "work". However, he actually used to have a clear job in the past running a bumper car ride.
    • He now has a job in the Paleteria.
  • Promoted to Playable: The male chef in Paleteria.
  • Punny Name: His name is a pun on "hacky sack". He also wears a hat that resembles one.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Mangoes.

Liezel grew up in the rural town of Scrapple Hill. She was a natural at football, making varsity in her freshman year. Despite the wins and cheers of that season, Liezel never signed back up. The anxiety of trying to fit in with the other boys wore down on her. With each year, she became more quiet and withdrawn. After graduation, she moved to Tastyville where she made many like-minded friends. In time, Liezel became the happy, exuberant woman she always felt herself to be.
