"THERE IS NO GOD. ONLY ME."

The titular antagonist; Needlemouse Sonic is a corrupted copy of Sonic the Hedgehog who houses a vengeful spirit named Sarah. After she was murdered during a bar fight, her spirit was trapped inside a beta disk containing a collection of the first three Sonic Genesis games after SEGA built their workplace over her “grave”. Due to 30 years of constant suffering ruining her psyche, she now plans to take vengeance against the people who ended her life.

  • Adaptational Sympathy: While the original Sonic.exe was an evil entity that wished to harm others out of pure malice, this incarnation is a ghost who wants revenge for her own death.
  • And I Must Scream:
    • After Sarah was accidentally murdered, her spirit was somehow trapped in an incomplete compilation disc for thirty years; all the while, her sanity diminished more and more as she watched her death on repeat.
    • When Sarah successfully killed all of her three former friends responsible for her death, she trapped them inside the Needlemouse CD. After that, Sarah breaks down their spirits and bodies before repeating the cycle again as punishment for killing her and ruining the life she could've had.
    • After Luther, Martin, and Michael come to terms with what they did and peacefully move on to the afterlife, Sarah is the only one who can't. Sarah is too consumed with hatred to forgive her former friends for their crime, but sadly, it's the only way for her to pass on. At the end of "Yourself", Sarah stays trapped in the Needlemouse CD with nothing but her hate that she refuses to let go while Kyle watches over her to stop her from harming anyone else.
  • All for Nothing: Sarah's efforts to keep her ex-friend group trapped and tortured in her world are useless. By the end of "Yourself", Luther, Martin, and Michael's souls move on to the afterlife with some help from Kyle and the Del.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear who killed Sarah specifically. According to Luther, everyone was so drunk during the bar fight no one could make out what happened; one minute, Sarah was okay, but the next, she was on the carpet floor bleeding. Even if Luther, Martin, and Michael didn't kill her, they did the worst possible thing they could've done in that situation and hid her body in a lake, making them look guilty.
    • "Atem" finally reveals who dealt the blow that night, showing a picture of Luther, Martin, and Michael horrified... with Luther covered in blood.
  • Ax-Crazy: Nothing she does after getting her revenge is motivated by "justice", merely sadistic enjoyment in torturing her ex-friends and controlling them simply because she wants to do it and enjoys it.
  • Big Bad: She's this for the entire series, being the direct source of troubles. However, it's later revealed that Atem is the true evil force.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Sarah appeared as an overall good person before she was killed and became Needlemouse Sonic, but later episodes show that she wasn't all that great. According to Michael and Martin, Sarah would "walk all over them", and ShutUpJoJo would say that Sarah "was always a cunt".However, Season 2 episodes reveal that she was genuinely kind to Luther and was only (mainly) nasty to Michael and Marvin; not to mention she was in a loving relationship with Lily, showing that Sarah wasn't perfect but decent.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Being trapped inside a disk and having to replay your death over and over again for 30 years really didn't help Sarah's psyche too well.
  • Beyond Redemption: Seemingly. Sarah's greatest tragedy is that despite Luther and Kyle begging her to move on and to let go of her hatred, she can't. "Yourself" reveals that she does want to move on but can't bring herself to forgive her former friends for killing her and ruining the happy life she could've had. Kyle knows this and decides to stay behind inside the broken disk, making sure Sarah never hurts anyone again. Subverted by the end of "Atem", when Sarah finally comes to terms with her hatred and moves on to the afterlife with Kyle.
  • Control Freak: She is obsessed with controlling the world she's in and getting to control the fates of her victims, and when she doesn't get her way, you can expect her to throw a massive tantrum, which has happened numerous times throughout Season 2, even trying to delete the characters because she'd rather have them dead than being unable to control them. Word of God states that Sarah can pass on to the afterlife, but actively chooses not to because she's gone mad with power and prefers being the god of her world.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Sarah killed Kyle when he found the cursed disc and is currently hunting Tom; mind you, these two had nothing to do with her death. However, in Tom's case, he's possibly the only one who can stop Sarah, which gives her a good reason to go after him.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After being trapped in a game for thirty years, going insane, and becoming a power-mad monster, Sarah lets go of her hatred and power and goes to the afterlife with her adopted son, finally at peace.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • Luther. Luther and Sarah were very close when she was alive, and you'd easily mistake them for being a couple. She was the kindest towards him out of their little friend group, which makes her death at his hands all the more tragic. Luther accidentally killing her in a bar fight and hiding her body understandably pissed her right off.
    • Lily. Lily was Sarah's girlfriend before everything went to hell for the poor girl; they genuinely loved each other and had plans to marry and adopt a kid. When Sarah believes Lily moved on without her, it causes her to break down even further in "Yourself".
  • Fighting from the Inside: There's a war inside Sarah's mind, one good, and one evil. On one side, there's a part of her that believes she shouldn't be trapping her friends in a game and torturing them for killing her and should forgive them for what they did so she can move on. But on the other side, we have the vengeful part of Sarah's mind and likely the demon controlling her. This part of her believes they should continue to torment Kyle and the others for killing her and hiding the body because it's what they deserve for their crime.
  • Freudian Excuse: She was killed during a bar fight, and her spirit ended up stuck inside an incomplete compilation disk. 30 years of endless torment did no good for her sanity, and she fused with Sonic's data to become Needlemouse Sonic.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: While Sarah has a solid reason for wanting revenge on her ex-friends for killing her and taking her away from her family while they got to keep theirs, her acts become inexcusable as the series continues. Luther fears that Sarah won't stop with just him, Martin, and Michael; she'll kill anyone unlucky enough to find the haunted Needlemouse CD. This is best shown in Season 2, when Sarah kills Kyle, an innocent guy who had nothing to do with her death, ripping him away from his family for no real reason. Sarah has become an angry monster who needs to be stopped.
  • Genre Blind: The April Fools Q&A reveals that Sarah is unaware of the existence of modern Sonic games. In fact, she doesn't know much about the Sonic series, if at all. The fact she died before SEGA or Sonic even existed would explain this somewhat.
  • A God Am I: As always. Aside from the famous "I AM GOD" line, she says variations such as "There is no God, only me".
  • Heel Realization: The second half of the final episode "Atem" basically has her going through this, realizing the futility of continuing her grudge. The series ends with her facing away from Kyle in the afterlife, sobbing bitterly as she realizes that Kyle is her stepson.
Sarah: I think I finally know who you are.
  • Hypocrite: Her main goal was obtaining vengeance against her friends for ripping her away from her family while they got to keep theirs. In Season 2, she kills Kyle, who had nothing to do with her murder, ripping him away from his family for no real reason. Kyle is rightfully pissed and Luther makes sure to call her out on it during their fight.
  • Ironic Hell: Because Sarah can't bring herself to forgive Luther, Martin, and Michael for killing her and ruining her life, her spirit can't pass on to the afterlife. By the end of "Yourself", Sarah is trapped in the same prison she made for her former friends, maybe forever, with nothing but her hate in the broken pieces of the Needlemouse CD, with Kyle acting as her jailer to stop her from hurting and killing more innocent people.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Whatever life Sarah could've had with her girlfriend was ruined when someone killed her in a bar fight, and Luther, Martin, and Michael buried her body in a lake. Sarah would watch from her prison as the Fun Gang moved on with their lives while her family and girlfriend would never receive proper closure. Despite her terrible actions toward her former friends, Sarah has every right to be angry at the Fun Gang for what they did.
  • Just Toying with Them: She says this in the first episode, no less! And this is basically her motivation after achieving her revenge.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: At the end of "Yourself", Sarah's vendetta against her former friends bites her in the ass. It turns out that the only way for her to pass on to the afterlife is to forgive them for their crime. However, Sarah's too far gone that she can't let go of her rage towards Luther, Martin, and Michael, who ironically did move on when they came to terms with what they did to her. In the end, Sarah remains trapped inside the broken pieces of the Needlemouse CD, with Kyle acting as her warden.
  • Meaningful Name: Her full name is Sarah Henderson. Taking the first letter of those two words creates SH, which are also the first letters in Sonic and Hedgehog.
  • Neck Lift: In SpeedDuo64 Presents:, she does this to Luther before throwing him away like a ragdoll once he tries to reach out for help.
  • Never Found the Body: When Luther and the Fun Gang accidentally killed Sarah, they hid her body in a lake; eventually, SEGA built a building over her resting place, hiding her body further. No one would ever know what the Fun Gang did, and they would've taken their secret to their graves if Sarah hadn't decided to send them there sooner.
  • No Full Name Given: In contrast with the rest of the human/formerly human characters, her last name is never said or shown, with it always being blotted out on anything that would have it, such as her missing person's poster. Eventually subverted, as "Yourself" revealed that her last name is "Henderson".
  • Offing the Offspring: Nearly. She killed Kyle, who was her girlfriend's adopted son who shares her last name. The Entity refers to him as her son while reading off Luther's faults.
  • Painful Transformation: She inflicts these onto her victims, making their bodies rapidly deteriorate while their souls are transferred into vessels of Sonic characters.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Her main goal is to get back at her friends who are responsible for her death and seal their souls in the game with her so she wouldn't be alone. This starts breaking down as the series goes on, killing Kyle for simply discovering the disk, trying to kill Tom due to being one of the two people who can stop her at this point, and it being very clear she's only doing what she's doing now because she enjoys it.
  • Precision F-Strike: When she decides to start her path of revenge, she says the series' one and only use of the word "fuck".
Sarah: I'M COMING TO GET YOU, LUTHER! I'M GONNA FUCKING GET YOU! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: She throws massive tantrums when she doesn't get her way, glitching the game out and even trying to delete the souls in the game when they stop being under her control.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Needlemouse Sonic's fur becomes purple when exerting control, and she's a variant of Sonic.exe.
  • Redemption Rejection: When Sarah is offered the chance to move on to the afterlife in "Yourself", she reveals that she does want to leave but can't bring herself to forgive the Fun Gang for killing her and balks at the idea, which is understandable. Unfortunately for Sarah, that's the only way for her to escape; combined with the fact that she doesn't want to give up control of her powers, she's stuck in limbo.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Her vessel doesn't imply it, but she's actually a girl. This is due to her once being a normal person before she fused with Sonic's data.
  • Slasher Smile: Oh boy, can she make big ones. They're either with white or red teeth. She believes that a smile can express the darkest and most horrific of emotions. Exaggerated in the Q&A, where, although not shown due to the Q&A being entirely audio, she shows Luther a "truly scary face."
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: She has a particularly long mane of black hair that usually rendered as unkempt and bushy when she's aggressive. On occasion, it translates over to Needlemouse Sonic as well by virtue of the vessel's quills drooping down to match Sarah's hair.
  • Super-Strength: She's as strong as she is brutal in her murders, being capable of mauling humans like a wild animal and, as shown in "Confrontation", even being capable of harming Kyle (who was in the body of Silver Sonic, and was therefore, made of metal) with her bare hands.
  • That Man Is Dead: Not directly stated by her, but Martin's warning to Luther about Sarah states this:
"What was left of Sarah died all those years back. Don't fall for her facade."
  • Tragic Villain: In the end, Sarah was just an incredibly unlucky girl who got screwed over by a bad accident and a terrible decision. Getting trapped and tortured in a game for decades and controlled by a demon was just salt on the wound.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: In her human life, Sarah was well-liked amongst her friends for her bubbly and carefree nature, especially with her best friend Luther. Her death and entrapment in a beta disc led to her rapidly spiraling sanity and ultimate decision to put her former friends into a hell of her own making. Subverted, as ShutUpJoJo revealed in a Twitter Q&A that Sarah was always a 'cunt', even when she was alive, although she is shown interacting passively with Luther and Lily in the Season 2 flashbacks, implying that they were the only ones she enjoyed being around.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Sarah goes through a horrible meltdown in Yourself. In that episode, she remembers Lily, her old girlfriend, from when she was still alive and how they had plans to get married and adopt a kid. However, that dream never came true, as Sarah was killed in a bar fight, her body was hidden in a lake, and her spirit was trapped in a video game for thirty years. Sarah believes that Lily moved on without her, causing her to break down even further, damaging whatever sanity she has left, and hating her former friends even more.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She used to be part of the Fun Gang, having Luther, Michael, and Martin as her closest friends. But then all four of them got drunk at a party and Sarah was killed by accident, with things going downhill from there.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Sarah was already in a dark place after watching her death over and over, driving her insane. QXRlbQ== giving Sarah god-like powers and total dominion over the Needlemouse CD exacerbated things and made her go mad with power, relishing in the idea of making the Fun Gang suffer for her murder.

Luther Jamie Artwright

Click here to see Luther in 1963
Click here to see him as Needlemouse Tails

"I refuse to sit and let things happen again. Many lives are at stake, Sarah."
Needlemouse Sonic's third victim and best friend in her past life as Sarah. After his death, his soul was grafted onto Tails' data. Despite being forced in a life of suffering as his former friend's puppet, something caused him to regain his autonomy; with this new strength, Luther now goes on a quest to free himself, Sarah, and the rest of his friends from the disk they are all trapped in by any means necessary, whether it’s by reaching out to his son or fighting Sarah himself.
  • Accidental Murder: The picture in "Atem" reveals that Luther was the one who accidentally killed Sarah during the bar fight. Likely, he couldn't remember doing it because he, alongside everyone else, was so damn drunk.
  • Asshole Victim: He's responsible for Sarah's death, which makes him one of her targets for killing. However... (see below)
  • The Atoner: As revealed in "Yourself", he spent the rest of his life trying to be this after Sarah's death, and also for his son, Tom, to live a life without any regrets. Unfortunately, this caused his family to break apart because he wouldn't stop trying.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Zig-zagged. Luther's the youngest of the Fun Gang, but he's the one willing to stop Sarah's vile actions, contrasting the cynical Michael and the hopeless Martin.
  • Badass Cape: After fusing with Tails, he now wears a blue cape to show his heroism in contrast to Sarah's villainy, which makes him even more badass. The April Fools Q&A reveals that he needs it to keep himself warm, as the beta disk's world is actually very cold.
  • Beyond the Impossible: He's able to resist succumbing to Sarah's hell; while it is currently unknown how he can do this, he can actually make others like Kyle do the same.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Inverted at first, as Luther played a part in Sarah's demise and wears blue shoes upon being fused with Tails' data. Later played straight when he tries to stop Sarah from harming innocent lives, gaining a blue cape and Chaos Emerald axe later down the line to go with his heroic resolve.
  • Cooldown Hug: Gives one to Michael during Confronting, along with words of reassurance.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Suffers a big one in Yourself as a result of QXRlbQ== using Sarah's form to torment him with the knowledge that Sarah's death, and the tragedies that came after it, was his fault. Thankfully, Kyle snaps him out of it.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: While Luther has gone through hell throughout his entire life, Del and Kyle finally liberate him from Sarah's world, allowing him to pass on without any further regrets from the past.
  • Expy: Word of God states that Luther's blue body markings are based on Demi-Fiend from Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, and his cape is based on Bass.EXE from Mega Man Battle Network.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Despite being a hero, Luther's this (albeit unintentionally) for the entire series, even more so than QXRlbQ==. As the entity reveals to him during Yourself, the act of Sarah's body being dumped in a lake, the pact to keep her death a secret, her resulting insanity and killing spree, and the murder of her own adopted son Kyle, was all Luther's fault. This ends up being the catalyst for his Despair Event Horizon, along with his failure to protect Tom slowly eating away at him.
  • Only Sane Man: In regards to everything happening around him, Luther's the guy who stands out the least, and is also the one who keeps most of his sanity until Kyle came along. He also serves as this in the series' side content, mostly showing mild annoyance to Sarah's antics.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he learns that the Sonic beta disk turned the TV on by itself, this is his response.
    Luther: Oh my god.
  • Mundane Utility: The entire point of his cape's existence is to keep himself warm. Apparently, the beta disk lacks natural heat.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: As Luther, Martin, and Michael stand around Sarah's body, Luther stares blankly while Martin and Michael are freaking out. Soon he realizes what he did, and like his two friends, he's horrified.
  • Papa Wolf: The moment Sarah tried to kill Tom is also when Luther decides to finally face off with her.
  • The Reveal: In "Atem", the video shows a picture of Luther, Martin, and Michael, looking horrified as they stand around (likely) Sarah's body. Martin and Michael are clean, but the blood is all over Luther, showing that he's responsible for her death and everything that's happened in the series.
  • Spanner in the Works: His rebellion against Sarah was able to halt her plans of killing his son considerably. Not that it mattered in the end.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: At the end of his fight against Sarah, Luther delivers quite a scathing one to his former friend in hopes of pacifying her so Tom could have enough time to destroy the disk. And it almost works.
Luther: You're right. But at this point... I don't know you anymore. You never hated anyone. You were alone in a lost land, and you are now. Despite all of us being here. You are a murderer. Nothing can change that. And with this world you've made up... it's only making things worse. Not only for us... but yourself. So I ask you this, Sarah: please... just let go. Tom's going to destroy the disk. Now's your chance to leave things behind and move on. Please.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: In "Atem", Luther, Martin, and Michael all stand around (presumably) Sarah's body. Martin and Michael are terrified, while a bloodied Luther looks in blank shock as the realization of what he did dawns on him.

    Needlemouse Knuckles

Michael

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/michael_present_day.png
Oh, Crap! at it's finest.
Click here to see Michael in 1963
Click here to see him as Needlemouse Knuckles

"What was left of Sarah... died all those years back. Don't fall for her façade."

Needlemouse Sonic's first victim and one of her former friends in her past life. Once a member of the Fun Gang, he covered up the evidence behind Sarah's Accidental Murder and made a vow with his friends to take the truth into their graves. He would later be killed by Sarah while playing her game disk and his soul stuffed into the data of Knuckles, the deception of ages long past coming back to haunt him.

  • And I Must Scream: What else can be said when you're trapped inside the eternally-smiling shell of a game character, along with no breathable air and having nothing to do except being constantly watched by your murderer?
  • Asshole Victim: He's partly responsible for Sarah's death, which makes him one of her targets.
    • Somewhat Subverted in "Atem". Despite Luther being the one who killed Sarah and not him, Michael still helped him hide her body, giving her a good reason for going after him.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: "Yourself" reveals that Sarah ripped the upper half of Michael's head off and took his eyes. The only saving grace was that his end was "painless", according to Martin, who got a way worse death.
  • The Cynic: In contrast to Martin's refusal to defy Sarah and Luther's determination to stand up against her, Michael doesn't really care about the outcome anymore.
  • Despair Event Horizon: The fact that he's ripped away from his loved ones is rather understandable.
  • Desperate Plea for Home: Screams to Sarah that he just wants to go home to his family before finally breaking.
  • Messy Hair: Michael has messy hair in the form of an afro and still has one to the modern day. After Sarah kills him and puts his soul into Knuckles' body, the upper part of his head will sometimes resemble his old hair.
  • Mind Rape: Sarah forces him to undergo this as punishment for doing nothing about her death.
  • No Full Name Given: His last name has never been revealed, and most likely never will due to its irrelevance on the plot.
  • Oh, Crap!: Michael is horrified, along with Martin, when they stand around Sarah's body.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: While he may look like an uncaring, but good-hearted echidna with a human soul, Michael is implied to be extremely sad deep down, as he has no family to return to. This sadness is so bad that Luther has to give him a Cooldown Hug before leaving to fight Sarah.
  • Tears of Blood: Sports these once he finally reaches his breaking point.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: In-universe. The massive amounts of despair that he felt in his new life has resulted in Michael being rather apathetic towards anything he comes across.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Like Martin, Michael shows some dislike for Sarah even in his old human life, claiming that she "walks all over them". However, a flashback in SpeedDuo64 Presents: shows that Sarah was very friendly with Luther during their college days, though it is implied that Michael and Martin were drunk during their statements.
    • Subverted, as ShutUpJoJo revealed in a Twitter Q&A that Sarah was always a 'cunt' even when she was alive, meaning that Michael was indeed telling the truth and that Sarah did indeed walk all over him and her other friends, although it's possible she only really cared for Luther.
  • The Watcher: In "Confronting". He's not going to help Luther in his quest for freedom from Sarah's hell, but he's not going to stop him either. He still gives him a helpful tip, however.

    Needlemouse Robotnik

Martin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/martin_present_day.png
Click here to see Martin in 1963
Click here to see him as Needlemouse Robotnik

"Whatever you do, don't play the game. That's how she's able to get to you. Don't listen to her lies."

Needlemouse Sonic's second victim and one of her former friends in her past life. Once a part of the Fun Gang, he was involved in Sarah's Accidental Murder and vowed to take the truth into his grave with Luther and Michael. He would later be brutally killed by Sarah while playing her game and his soul inserted into Robotnik's data, being given severely worse treatment compared to Michael.

  • Asshole Victim: He's partly responsible for Sarah's death, which puts him on her killing list. Doubly so since Martin was given a more horrid death compared to Michael and Luther, but he's later beaten out by Kyle. Arguably the biggest one since compared to Luther and Michael who feel remorse, he explicitly refuses to admit fault when he knows fully well he contributed to Sarah's death.
    • "Atem" reveals that while he didn't kill Sarah, Martin still hid her body along with Luther and Michael, so he's not entirely innocent.
  • Body Horror: When Sarah kills him, his face melts off.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Even more so than Michael. In fact, he sees Sarah as The Dreaded by Confronting, though she has very good reasons to back up his claims.
Martin: Luther. I need you to listen to me now. Whatever you're planning on doing, it won't work. You've tried so many times to reach out, but... you can't. We're never getting out of here. Michael's gone and saw... Why wouldn't you?
  • Empty Shell: By the time of "Confronting", he's basically a broken depressed mess, believing that the former Fun Gang would never be able to escape their imposed hell.
  • Eye Scream: During his second Madness Mantra, his Robotnik vessel's glasses fade to reveal that his eyes were ripped out from their sockets by Sarah, though it is thankfully masked by a Gory Discretion Shot.
  • Fat Bastard: His vessel in the comp. disk is the round Robotnik, and he had a part in Sarah's death.
  • Hope Is Scary: He views Luther's quest of freeing the Fun Gang from the beta disk as terrifying, since Sarah would never let them leave willingly.
  • Madness Mantra: Two, in fact!
She made sure my death was slow and painful. She made sure my death was slow and painful. She made sure my death was slow and painful.
You have to. You have to. You have to. You have to. You have to. You have to. You have to. You have to. You have to. You have to.
  • Never My Fault: Martin says he's not responsible for Sarah's death and believes he doesn't deserve his punishment. Sarah, on the other hand, quickly shoots down his shoddy claims.
    • Later installments reveal the truth somewhere in the middle. "Atem" shows that Luther killed Sarah, meaning that Martin's partially correct in that he's got nothing to do with her death, but despite the blood not being on his hands, he's still not innocent. Martin still helped Luther and Michael bury her body in a lake and kept quiet about the incident, giving Sarah her justification for killing and torturing him.
  • No Full Name Given: His last name has never been revealed, and most likely never will due to its irrelevance on the plot.
  • Tempting Fate: Martin claims he doesn't deserve to be trapped in Sarah's jail and says Michael "got it easy" compared to him. Sarah, standing behind him, heard him and proceeded to torture him with the painful memory of his death. The poor guy should've kept his mouth shut.

    Needlemouse Mecha Sonic

Kyle Henderson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyle_7.png
Click here to see him as Needlemouse Mecha Sonic
"Forgiving yourself will never ease the pain. And that’s okay. It’s the first step to finding peace."
Thomas' best friend and the adopted son of Lily. He investigates the Needlem0use disc and gets swiftly killed for it. After dying, he gets his soul shoved inside the damaged body of Mecha Sonic.
  • Ascended Extra: In the original creepypasta, Kyle was simply The Ghost, only appearing in a letter he sent to Tom begging him to destroy the game. Season 2 has him in a much larger role, as the videos made by him and Tom serve as the opener to the season, his (presumed) brutal death is clearly onscreen instead of it being up to interpretation, and he even has a dedicated fight sequence against Sarah.
  • Becoming the Costume: It's revealed that Kyle once dressed up as Sonic 2's version of Mecha Sonic for Halloween. Now he's effectively become the character in form and function.
  • Blue Is Heroic: While the energy radiating from Mecha Sonic’s body starts out as yellow and later shifts to white, the final color it lands on is blue, signifying Luther, who’s primary color associated with him is blue, passing torch to Kyle and Kyle truly becoming season 2’s protagonist.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Initially, it seemed Kyle was going to fill the same role as his original counterpart, that being the best friend of the protagonist who gets axed off early into the story, he ends up taking the role as the true protagonist after Luther grants him anatomy, putting to rest of the souls to rest and seemingly finally helping Sarah move on if the cliffhanger of Yourself is anything to go by.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: When Sarah kills him, he can be seen slowly melting in a gory fashion and screaming in complete agony.
  • Cyclops: As Mecha Sonic, Kyle retains the robot's singular eye, but it now glows a ghostly yellow.
  • Dented Iron: Not Kyle himself, but his Mecha Sonic body. Even though it has excellent strength, it can't take too many hits due to already being ruined by the time his soul possessed it.
  • Determinator: After becoming Needlemouse Mecha Sonic, there is nothing that can stop him from fighting Sarah. Possibility of despair? Break free from his chains and teleport away. Going up against her entire world? He'll just smash his way through. Becoming a Legacy Character was just the icing on the cake.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: While the whole point of Sarah's murders was payback against those who killed her, Kyle was entirely unrelated as far as is shown; all he ever did to draw Sarah's ire was finding and tampering with the disk. This is Luther's cue to stop Sarah.
  • Doomed by Canon: Just because this is a tweaked-up version of Sonic.exe doesn't mean that Kyle has a chance of living.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Kyle eventually moves onto the afterlife with Sarah, her adopted mother, at the end of the series, finally at peace.
  • Foil: To Sarah. Both he and Sarah were killed in an act of unintended violence and refuse to let go because of it. However, while Sarah was the one to kill Kyle and isn't moving on because of her anger, Kyle isn't moving on because he wants to keep her from hurting people anymore.
    • To hammer in the similarities between the two even further, at one point in "Atem", an image of Kyle's broken and mangled body appears, which rapidly flashes to an image of Sarah's corpse in a similar position, implying that Sarah has come to realize this herself.
  • Friend to All Children: Downplayed. While he does enjoy taking care of children, he only did it simply because it was a hobby for him, not out of any moral obligation.
  • Good Counterpart: To both Mecha Sonic proper, and to Needlemouse Sonic/Sarah, as detailed in Foil.
  • Happily Adopted: Was adopted by Lily, and his life until his death seems to be quite peaceful.
  • I Choose to Stay: At the end of "Yourself", Kyle's spirit ultimately decides to stay behind in the broken Needlemouse CD to prevent Sarah from hurting anyone else.
  • Legacy Character: In "Yourself", he takes over Luther's role of being Sarah's main form of resistance once he passes on to the afterlife.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Once he awakens inside his Mecha Sonic vessel, he's quick to go after Sarah and fight her.
  • "X" Makes Anything Cool: When in control of Mecha Sonic’s body, his chest is adorned with an X.

Thomas Bentley Artwright

"I….need to help them."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tom_70.png
The son of Luther and Sarah’s final victim. Fortunately, he wasn’t dragged into the game thanks to the destruction of the disc and Kyle’s intervention.
  • Adaptational Badass: In the original story, he is practically unable to put up any fight. Here, however, his father, Luther, gives him a fighting chance and an opportunity to destroy the titular disc.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: In the original story, Tom is not very smart, ignoring his friend's many pleas to destroy the disc and never once thinking of doing so even when he realizes there is an actual malicious entity in the game. In Needlem0use, he comes to the realization of destroying the disc himself, and gets to work doing so while Luther fights off Sarah.
  • Affectionate Nickname: He is referred to as Tommy Boy by Kyle during his goodbye to Tom near the end of "Yourself".
  • All-Loving Hero: Word of God reveals that Tom likes every Sonic character equally, and never plays favorites with anyone else. This includes lesser-known characters such as the Hooligans.
  • Decoy Protagonist: While it initially seemed that Tom would be the one to end Sarah’s madness, Kyle is going to be the one to put an end to things.
  • Final Guy: With the rest of the characters trapped in the game, including his father, Tom's the only one left to stop Sarah via destroying the disc.
  • The Hero: Like his father in Season 1, Tom is this for Season 2. He's the only person left alive and capable of stopping Sarah to end this nightmare.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In the original story, he's just referred to as "Tom". Here, he has a full name, which is Thomas Bentley Artwright.
  • Sole Survivor: Tom is the only one that makes it out alive at the end of the series, albeit with a wounded arm.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Unlike his original version, Tom survives Sarah's attack on him (likely thanks to Kyle) with only a wounded right arm.

"I’d be happy to take your last name!"

"Oh, that's a nice name... Kyle Henderson... How sweet."

The girlfriend of Sarah when she was alive. She also adopted Kyle in Sarah's memory.

  • Despair Event Horizon: Lily took Sarah's "disappearance" the hardest; she never stopped looking for Sarah but ultimately gave up as the years passed. Still, Lily never forgot her, and while they didn't get the chance to get married, Lily adopted Kyle and took Sarah's last name in her honor as a way to move on.
  • Dramatic Irony: Sarah believes that Lily moved on without her. In reality, as "Yourself" reveals, the poor woman never gave up looking for Sarah but finally gave up hope as the years passed.
  • Due to the Dead: Downplayed. Lily doesn't know what happened to Sarah and still thinks she went missing. However, as the years passed, Lily gave up, but as a way of honoring her, she assumed Sarah's last name and adopted Kyle.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: In the "Yourself" flashback, Lily originally had a large, fluffy afro and was seen pretty happy with Sarah. After Sarah "went missing" and the years passed, Lily shaved her hair a bit as she eventually lost hope in finding her girlfriend.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Lily has no idea what happened that fateful night in the bar. Lily, like everyone else, doesn't know that her girlfriend was accidentally killed and had her body hidden in a lake. Instead, they all think she went missing.
  • Official Couple: Lily was Sarah's girlfriend before everything went to hell for the latter; they even had plans to get married and adopt a kid.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The ring that Sarah gave her that has her last name engraved on it. Thirty years later, Lily still wears it as a way of remembering and honoring her.

Atem

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/atem.png
"Hey…I got an idea! I keep Luther occupied here. And you show Tom what’s it to face a god. But not one of Mercy… one of death."
A mysterious entity that inhabits Sarah's world alongside Sarah herself and her victims, it is the embodiment of her raw hatred and manipulates her into committing more evil and heinous acts against people.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After Atem butchers Kyle, Sarah becomes tired of the cycle of death she's stuck in and finally wants out. Atem knows that if she leaves, he'll die along with the rest of her world, so he gives one last frantic bid to get Sarah to stay. Interestingly, when Sarah chooses to go anyway, Atem doesn't stop her and lets her go.
  • All There in the Manual: Its name, as listed above, is only revealed in the acting credits in "Yourself"'s description as Base 64 text.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Its intentions are… ambiguous to say the least. It assists in Sarah’s murders and encourages her to keep going down that path, it also deconstructs every little thing wrong with Luther, and additionally helps Kyle get Luther to move on to the afterlife. To say that Atem’s sense of morality is strange is an understatement.
  • Body Horror: Its full body is that of a bright red Sonic-like being, with its lower half completely missing and replaced by an exposed ribcage alongside long, skeletal arms.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Atem probably knows that if Sarah lets go of her hatred to move on to the afterlife, he'll die, as he's the personification of her anger. When Sarah does go, he doesn't try to force her into staying. Atem lets Sarah leave with no strings attached.
  • Foreshadowing: Season 1 had imagery of a red entity, including a pair of floating eyes, which have since been confirmed to have been Atem.
    • Additionally, a pair of red eyes can be seen on the top-left of the screen when Sarah begins to have second thoughts after killing Kyle in "Duo", which are basically confirmed to be Atem with its appearance in the next episode.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: As the embodiment of Sarah's hatred, it essentially serves as her motivator throughout the entire series.
  • Killed Off for Real: Considering Atem is the embodiment of Sarah's hate, he likely died when she finally let go and moved on to the afterlife.
  • Made of Evil: Word of God states that Atem is a personification of Sarah's hatred.
  • Meaningful Name: QXRlbQ== is Base64 for “Atem,” who is said to have created the world. QXRlbQ== is implied to be responsible for the world inside the comp disc.
  • Nightmare Face: Its mouth is disturbingly human-like and realistic.
  • No Name Given: When it was introduced in “Confronting”, it had no official name, and even with its "given" name of "QXRlbQ==" is Base64 for “Atem”.
  • Playing Both Sides: "Yourself" reveals that the Entity seems to be this trope. Atem gave Sarah her powers and pressed her to get revenge on the Fun Gang for killing her. However, at the same time, Atem aids Kyle in helping Luther, Martin, and Michael move on from Sarah's jail. Why Atem is doing any of this is unknown.
    • Subverted in the finale where it's confirmed that Atem is only on the side of evil, whereas its positive counterpart, Del, was the one responsible for helping Luther and Kyle.
  • Truer to the Text: Atem is perhaps a more traditional take on the .EXE formula compared to Sarah; a sadistic, possibly demonic entity feeding off of the suffering of others, taking the form of a corrupted copy of Sonic the Hedgehog to do so.
  • Uncertain Doom: Atem was originally stated to just be left behind after the events of the series (allowing him to potentially claim new victims), but considering that Needlem0use is no longer canon to the current lore of Love's Crafts, it's unclear what his fate is after the series, as he's either stuck in the game for all eternity or died after Sarah left the game.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: It can take the form of Needlemouse Sonic, along with a rotting form of Sarah.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: In "Yourself", Atem gives a severe one to Luther due to his tenacity of making fatal mistakes. It's so effective that it makes the Implacable Man Luther reach his breaking point.
Atem: You need to get off your high horse. You waited until the last minute to do anything, Luther. You watched her die. YOU buried her body in the lake. YOU told them all not to say a word. Even Lily. Even after she took Sarah's last name. Even after she adopted a son in hopes of moving on. You didn't even let Sarah know she killed her own son. So tell me this, Mr. Artwright. How do you think she feels?
  • Walking Spoiler: You can’t exactly talk about it without mentioning its influence on Sarah’s actions.

    The Other Entity

Del

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/del_9.png
"Rest your soul, Mr. Artwright."
Another mysterious entity inhabiting Sarah's world alongside Sarah herself, her victims and Atem.
  • All There in the Manual: Its name is revealed in the credits of season 2's last episode.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Unlike Atem, who is red, black, and very much evil, Del is bright light blue, and white, trying to help Luther and even Sarah move on from their hell.
  • Good Counterpart: To Atem. Both are inhuman and mysterious entities, but while Atem does its best to encourage Sarah to continue claiming victims and to not let her hatred go, Del wants to help people to move on.
  • Heavenly Blue: Unlike Atem, who looks like a red, skeletal version of Sonic, Del takes a similar form but is colored light blue and white with glitched particles around him. In "Atem," Del looks like a bright white and blue version of Super Sonic.
  • Made of Good: Since Atem is a personification of Sarah's hatred, it's possible that Del is the personification of some positive quality of Sarah.

Don't think you can run away from me.
