Chuck E. Cheese's current incarnation (2012-present)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e13f44b3_2c76_45d7_b9d1_52214ec264bf.png
Left to right: PTT Chuck (1977-1994), Tux Chuck (1989-2001), Cool Chuck (1994-1997), and Avenger Chuck (1997-2012)
Voiced by: John Widelock (1977-1983), Scott Wilson (1983-1993), Duncan Brannan (1993-2012), Jeff Cosco (singing voice, August 1995, January 1996), Jaret Reddick (2012-present)
The mouse himself and the lead singer and lead guitarist as of 2012. Chuck E. is the mascot for the restaurant chain named after him.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: At one point in Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000, Chuck E. stands up to the X-Pilots after they insult Helen and Jasper. He even comes close to fighting them before Dr. Zoom comes along.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Chuck E. has worn t-shirts with the letter "C" on them since the mid-1990s.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Chuck E. just can't bring it in him to reciprocate Helen's feelings for him.
  • Character Catchphrase: A lot.
    • "Hiya folks!"
    • "TURN OFF THE DOG! TURN OFF THE FRUITCAKE DOG!"
    • "You're gonna have to excuse that fruitcake dog. He's got a funny bone for a brain."
    • "This is Chuck E. Cheese wishing you the very best! Happy birthday!"
    • "Where a kid can be a kid!"
    • "Chuck E. Cheese's! The real cool place to be a kid!"
    • "Chuck E. Cheese's! It's cool, for real!"
    • "Have a Chuck E. day!"
  • Characterization Marches On: He started out as a fairly abrasive individual who would frequently become annoyed with the antics of his co-stars, to the point of him verbally berating them at times, and even "exercising" by roasting his own reflection in a mirror in a 1979 comic; he eventually morphed into a much friendlier, upbeat Everyman type of guy; this is also reflected with his species changing from a rat to a mouse in 1994. His Rockstar counterpart restores some of his jerk qualities, though not to the extent of his early incarnation.
  • Dashingly Dapper Derby: Chuck E. originally wore a derby hat, until it was traded in for a baseball cap in the 1990s.
  • Deadpan Snarker: As the resident straight man of the group, he can dish this out from time to time:
Chuck: Now before we go, Mr. Munch is gonna take a look at the weather.
Munch: Okay, I’m looking at the weather. (Turns to look out the window behind him) Back to you.
Chuck: N-n-no Munch, I mean….what with the holidays and everything, we want to know if there’s any snow “on the map”.
Munch: (Looking at a literal map on the table covered in snow) Oh yeah, we’ve got snow on the map…we’ve got snow all over the map, and that’s a fact. Don’t know what it’s doing outside, but there is most definitely snow on the map for the holidays. Ha ha!
    Chuck: …….Thanks, Munch.
  • Doesn't Know Their Own Birthday: Chuck E.'s origin story for his rockstar incarnation makes him an orphan who didn't know when his birthday was.
  • Expy: Chuck E.'s original personality was based on the Muggs McGinnis character played by Leo Gorcey from the 1930s to 1950s.
  • Friend to All Children: So much so that he goes out of his way to do everything in his power just to make them happy, with a chain of restaurants filled to the brim with fun arcade games and junk food, prizes galore, and birthday parties for them!
  • The Gadfly: As the employee training tapes can attest to, he likes poking fun at others.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Originally so, he got better as time went on.
  • Good Parents: Avenger Chuck, during the Tux and Avenger eras, had a mom and dad who gave him a lot of love and care before he became an adult and traveled to New York City to perform in clubs; this is mentioned in the 1997 and 2007 versions of the song "Every Boy, Every Girl".
  • Guyliner: At least, it certainly looks like he’s wearing it. Taken to a ridiculous extent with some the walkarounds in the PTT era, to the point of where they appeared to be wearing blush and even lipstick.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Always had his feet and lower body exposed throughout the PTT era, wearing just a vest, bowtie, and Dashingly Dapper Derby. Beginning with the Tux era, his outfits generally cover the lower part of his body (except for the Tux animatronics and his first Studio C animatronic) before becoming fully clothed all the time some years later.
  • Inexplicably Tailless: He was drawn without a tail from the mid-1990s until 2012.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: His Cool and Avenger walkarounds and most animatronics from that time give him light blue eyes which represent his innocence, good nature, and how friendly he is to all children.
  • Insecure Protagonist, Arrogant Antagonist: In the Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000 video, Chuck E. was the insecure and doubtful protagonist to the antagonistic, arrogant, and cheating X-Pilots.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Helen Henny, a chicken.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: The degree as to which he’s a jerk varies between incarnations, but he’s always had a good heart underneath it all.
  • Laughing at Your Own Jokes: He often chuckles when he makes a joke, often making the others laugh as well.
  • The Leader: He has always been this to the rest of his gang.
  • Lead Singer Plays Lead Guitar: He's the lead singer of Munch's Make Believe Band, and as of 2012, often plays the lead guitar.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Only wears the same base outfit every incarnation, though he changes his clothes on occasion, such as in the showtapes. Averted with the Cool Chuck design which gives him a wide array of base outfits in promotional art.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: Originally had this look going for him, complete with a Dashingly Dapper Derby and bowtie; later incarnations give him more casual-looking attire.
  • Meaningful Name: Chuck E.'s middle name, Entertainment, reflects on his job as an entertainer for kids and their families.
  • Nice Mice: He’s a mouse, and he’s a fun-loving guy who throws birthday parties for kids.
  • No Indoor Voice: His current Rockstar voice has him often yelling nonstop.
  • Only Sane Man: His general shtick among his co-stars, particularly in the CEC TV segments.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Pre-Rockstar era, Chuck E.'s voice sometimes loses his New Jersey accent when singing in some of the Avenger era songs.
  • Red Is Heroic: Some of his "Cool Chuck" artwork featured the color red in his outfit, mostly on his signature baseball cap, and his "Coach" outfit features a bright red sweater. The racing uniform he wore to the Galaxy 5000 also has red on the top half to match his hat and sneakers.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: His current design is totally this.
  • Rodents of Unusual Size: Official measurements place him at nearly six feet tall. Briefly subverted in the early Rockstar commercials, which portrayed him as roughly the size of a normal rodent.
  • Signature Headgear: Save for his current "Rockstar" incarnation, all of his outfits have a hat; it was originally a derby hat, then switched to a red sports cap in the mid-90s, and finally to a purple and green cap in the mid 90s.
  • Signature Laugh: That's the case in the early PTT era for him with a New Jersey-ish "Heheheheheh!"
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: For a brief period during the mid-90s, Chuck E.'s singing sounded absolutely nothing like his normal talking voice.
  • Ship Tease: With Helen Henny. (Astrid from Chuck E. Cheese and the Galaxy 5000 doesn't count as she cruelly tells him that she was only interested in the prize money and not him.)
  • Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome: Inverted; he seems to be getting younger with each incarnation.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Occasionally has this reaction to his friend’s antics, usually when they decide to do something outlandish.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: His initial personality was… let's just say, not pleasant. He becomes much more hospitable by the time the Tux Era rolls around.
  • Toon: As revealed in commercials from the 1990s to 2012, and in one lost commercial from 1979.
  • Totally Radical: His "Cool Chuck" and "Avenger Chuck" appearances have him dress like and use slang from the late 90s to the early-to-mid 2000s.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: With Helen Henny, especially in the Galaxy 5000 film. He doesn't give Helen a Love Confession directly, however, only saying to her that he never lost faith in her.
  • Vague Age: Appeared to be around his 30s or 40s in the PTT era, but his "Tux" and "Cool" versions make him appear to be around young adult age. His "Avenger" look makes him appear to be around his late teens to early 20s, while he was more of a perpetual teenager for the "Rockstar" redesign. One 1994 trademark application guide averts this, revealing Cool Chuck to be 25 years old.
  • Vocal Evolution:
    • Had a stereotypical "New Jersey" voice in the PTT era before gaining a higher-pitched voice in the early 90s, which eventually became deeper and more Barney-like while the accent became slightly less noticeable. Then when the Rockstar revamp launched, he got a normal American accent and his voice became more husky and teen-like.
    • John Widelock originally used a very different voice in the May 1977 demo showtape compared to the one he would use for future shows.
    • Scott Wilson's Chuck E. started out as a straightforward impression of John Widelock's take, before it got higher and more expressive.
    • Duncan Brannan's Chuck E. voice was originally an imitation of Scott Wilson's Chuck E. voice, but later developed its own tone by the last half of the '90s. Also, Brannan's Chuck E. got progressively deeper after early 1999, sounding more early adult-like. In the final years of the Avenger era, Brannan's Chuck E. became much deeper and more nasally.
    • For the first few showtapes of the Rockstar reboot, Jaret Reddick's Chuck E. voice sounded more relaxed, quieter, and not as loud; a few showtapes later, he evolved into his raspy Large Ham tone. Reddick's voice got raspier in 2023 material, likely due to age.
  • World of Pun: He's always making puns in not only the showtapes, but in the commercials too!
  • You Dirty Rat!: Subverted initially. He could be mean at times, but was otherwise a decent person. Since the mid-1980s, he averts this entirely.
  • Your Size May Vary: He was portrayed as human-sized until 2012, when he was shrunk into the size of a real rodent, only to revert to human size later on.

Main bandmates (Munch's Make Believe Band)

    As a whole
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/605bb10d8c839205d9728ffb_cec_big2_p_1080_4.jpeg
The main band, originally known as the Pizza Time Players. They were rebranded to Munch's Make-Believe Band in 1989.
  • Inexplicably Tailless: Despite their respective species having tails, Helen and Jasper are never shown with them (though Jasper did have a tail in one full-body prototype).
  • Sudden Eye Color: Most artwork depict them with no eye colors, but they receive such for their walkarounds, animatronics, and as of the Rockstar relaunch. Helen's in particular alternated between blue and green for differing animatronic locations.
  • Token Minority: Pasqually is Italian, while Bella is Hispanic.
  • True Companions: All of them stay close to each other no matter what.
  • Vague Age: Acted like middle-aged adults in the PTT and Tux eras, while the Cool and Avenger eras age them down to about their late teens to mid-20s. The Rockstar era makes them appear to be perpetual teenagers, with the exception of Pasqually who appears to stay middle-aged.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a995d728_1386_4fce_8dc6_1f555e2ec8fb.png
Left to right: Original Helen (1978-1979), PTT Helen (1983-1991), Tux Helen (1989-1994), and Cheerleader Helen (1994-2012)
Voiced by: Paula Mulcahy (1978–1979; speaking and singing role), Nancy Lenihan (1983-February 1991; speaking and singing role), Karisa Burleson (March 1991–March 1994; speaking and singing role, August 1996–April 2000; speaking role only), Georgia Denney (1999, Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000) Annagrey Wiechman (May 1992–March 1994, August 1996–February 2016; speaking and singing role), Stephanie Nadolny (April 1994–Holiday 1995; speaking role only), Cathy Turner (August 1995; January–April 1996; speaking role only), Caroline Taylor (March 2016–present; speaking and singing role)
The lead vocalist and formerly guitar player. Helen is a chicken who serves as the token female in the band.
  • Alliterative Name: Helen Henny.
  • Berserk Button: Since she's a chicken, please do not make jokes or even reference chicken eating within earshot. In the Direct to Video film Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000, she goes on a rant about humans eating chicken when Jasper suggests the gang get jobs at the Chicken Palace in front of her.
  • Betty and Veronica: In the Galaxy 5000 video, Helen becomes the Betty to Astrid's Veronica, toward Chuck E.'s Archie.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Her cheerleader outfits from the Avenger era have the letter "H" on her left shoulder.
  • Characterization Marches On: In the beginning, Helen was a chicken version of Helen Reddy (her name was meant to be punny). By the early 80s, she had become an old, clucking Broadway diva, a characterization that stuck around until Concept Unification in the early 90s, when she received an Age Lift and became a Suspiciously Similar Substitute to Mitzi Mozzarella of the Rock-afire Explosion. Nowadays, Helen is depicted as an avid gamer.
  • Damsel in Distress: Becomes this in the Galaxy 5000 film thanks to the X-Team seizing her and locking her up for Dr. Zoom to make her a mass-producing victim for the Zoom Gas, when she threatens to tell on them.
  • Damsel out of Distress: In the Galaxy 5000 film, Helen frees herself from her cell using just her feather. Then she knocks Dr. Zoom unconscious with a frying pan.
  • The Diva: Every incarnation of Helen has her portrayed as a positive example of such.
  • Expy:
    • Of Helen Reddy originally, from her name to her outfits and guitar. Later incarnations drop the Reddy connections altogether apart from her name.
    • She became this to Mitzi Mozzarella of the Rock-afire Explosion in Concept Unification, right down to the (sometimes green, no less) cheerleading outfit that she wore throughout much of the '90s until the early 2010s.
  • Flowers of Femininity: Helen's Tux outfit had a flower on her blouse, and her Avenger artwork showed her wearing a shirt with a flower on it.
  • Gamer Chick: Became this from 2016 on. One video shows Helen trying to beat various games at a local Chuck E. Cheese.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Helen sported a pair of those from Concept Unification all the way until the Rockstar era, when she started wearing a ponytail instead.
  • Girly Girl: Helen has generally been characterized as such since the Tux era, with her clothing usually incorporating some amount of pink or purple, as well as Helen herself being interested in fashion, romance, shopping, and fads.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: She became this in the Rockstar era, particularly after Caroline Taylor assumed the role. As her backstory on the official website puts it:
She was the kind of girl who would paint her mom’s nails by day and demolish her brothers’ video game scores by night.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: As of the Cool Chuck era, Helen's hair is changed to blonde, representing her status as a friendly and caring hen.
  • The Heart: Helen is the most innocent of the group, and she's often been known to mediate conflicts.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: She's The Heart of the group, and has had blue eyes since the Tux era.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Chuck E., a mouse.
  • Nice Girl: Helen is one of the nicest chickens you'll meet.
  • Non-Mammal Mammaries: Pre-Rockstar depictions of Helen generally gave her breasts.
  • One of the Boys: Being part of a band in which the other members are all male, this is to be expected.
  • Only Sane Man: In the January 2015 showtape, Helen has suspicions about Mike Wolf, and tries (with no avail) to convince Chuck E. not to fall into his trap.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Helen's Tux-era, Avenger-era, and Rockstar-era outfits all incorporate pink to emphasize her girly personality.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: For a period between the mid-90s to 2000, Helen's normally high-pitched voice with Southern accent becomes deeper and softer without the accent when singing.
  • Ship Tease: With Chuck E. Cheese. However, in Galaxy 5000 she does a Love Confession through song despite him not hearing it.
  • Southern Belle: Karlisa Burleson's Helen had a Southern accent reminiscent of one.
  • The Smurfette Principle: For decades, Helen was the band's sole female member. Averted beginning in the 2020s, when Bella was added to the lineup.
  • Tuft of Head Fur: Often seen having a full head of feathers and wearing them in pigtails (or, as of 2013, in a ponytail). Sometimes, like in her orignal incarnation, Helen is seen wearing her feathered hair down.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: With Chuck E.; however, in Galaxy 5000 she does a Love Confession through song despite him not hearing it.
  • Vocal Evolution: During her time when voiced by Annagrey Wiechman, her voice got softer and older-sounding in the last few years due to her age.

    Mr. Munch

Mr. Munch

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rockstarmunch.png
Munch's current "Rockstar" look, 2013-present
Voiced by: Scott Wilson (1978–1993), Duncan Brannan (Jan. 1994, 1996–1999), Doug Teel (April 1994–Holiday 1995), Bob West (August 1995-April 1996), Christopher Sabat (1999, Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000), John Bowen (1999–2014), Chris Hill (2014–present)
The frontman and keyboardist. Munch is a monster (later a purple alien during the Rockstar era) who loves pizza.
  • Big Bad: He plays the main antagonist in a parody music video of "Secret Agent Man", and is the final boss in the Space Invaders parody in Chuck E Cheeses Party Games.
  • Big Eater; His stomach is always ready for pizza. Why else do you think he’s called Munch?
  • Big Fun: Munch is a big purple monster who's also energetic and childish.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Munch has worn t-shirts with the letter "M" on them since the mid-1990s.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite Munch's immaturity, he did have an excellent singing voice from the 1990s to early 2010s.
  • Deadpan Snarker: In the Chuck E. Cheese News, in which he points out weird stuff happening to the globe.
  • Dumb Blonde: Munch has yellow hair and has a ditzy streak. However, he and his fellow aliens from Planet Purple are described to be a highly educated race, so perhaps he's only ditzy according to Earth standards.
  • Expy: His early counterpart was one of Grimace (mostly due to his purple fur), as well as Cookie Monster (his love of pizza being similar to Cookie Monster's love of cookies). When Concept Unification initially occurred, Munch was depicted as a Suspiciously Similar Substitute to Fatz Geronimo of the Rock-afire Explosion.
  • Fat Best Friend: Munch is a big, purple monster who is kind-hearted.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Like Chuck E., Munch just wears his baseball cap and shoes throughout the first few eras, but became permanently fully clothed by the Avenger era. His animatronics and pre-Rockstar puppets keep his half-dressed look however.
  • Manchild: Ironically, despite being called Mr. Munch, he's also pretty childish.
  • Meaningful Name: Mr. Munch is quite the glutton.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: In addition to being based on the more gruff Pizza Time Theatre-era voice, Munch's current voice also sounds like Louis Armstrong mixed with Brad Garrett.
  • Simpleton Voice: Had one from 1978 to 1990 and again since 2014. He even points out that it sounded weird. His voice is at its deepest in the Galaxy 5000 video.
  • Tears of Joy: Immediately started shedding them upon trying a piece of Chuck E. Cheese pizza for the first time.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pizza.
  • Vocal Dissonance: From Concept Unification until 2014, Munch had a smoother, more refined voice as part of his transformation into more of a Fatz-like character.
  • Vocal Evolution:
    • Scott Wilson's Munch started out as lower and scratchier before getting higher later on; during Concept Unification he changed to a smoother, refined voice with a Southern accent (as the character was retooled to be more Fatz-like). Duncan Brannan's Munch was based on this take.
    • Doug Teel and John Bowen's Munch voices became even smoother and lost the Southern accent, though Bob West's Munch, strangely, reverted to the scratchier PTT voice.
    • Since 2014, Munch's scratchier voice returned courtesy of Chris Hill, though now with elements of Louis Armstrong.

    Jasper T. Jowls

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7157bf3e_e614_4ddd_a20f_7a12863f4bd2.png
Left to right: PTT Jasper (1977-1991), Tux Jasper (1989-2004), Avenger Jasper (2004-2012)
Voiced by: John Widelock (1977, demo voice), Scott Paulin (1978–1985), Scott Wilson (January 1986), Bob West (1986–1994, August 1995, January 1996–December 1998; speaking role only, 1992–1994), Charles Stewart (1992–1993, singing role), Jeremy Blaido (1999-2011, 2012-present), Robert Gotcher (April 1992, May-Sept. 2011), Reggie Smith (April 1994—December 1995), Duncan Brannan (singing role, January 1994; December 1996–1997)
The bass guitarist and formerly banjo player. Jasper is a country dog from, well, Tennessee.
  • Ambiguously Brown: His current design has his face being a shade of brown.
  • Ambiguously Gay: He seems to be drawn to Chuck E. a lot. However, he had crushes on Foxy Colleen and Harmony Howlette in the past so he may be bisexual.
  • Big Friendly Dog: Jasper is a dog, and is a good guy.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Jasper's rebooted Rockstar look has a silver belt buckle with his "J" on it.
  • The Cameo: He appeared in Made alongside Chuck E.
  • Characterization Marches On: In the Pizza Time Theatre years, Jasper was slow-witted and goofier. He gained his sarcastic, laid-back personality in Concept Unification.
  • Country Mouse: His entire character is country based.
  • Dogs Are Dumb: Played straight in his first incarnation, in which he was slow and goofy. He got better by the Tux era though.
  • Dare to Be Badass: He was a daredevil in the Super Jasper segments.
  • Deadpan Snarker: In his earliest moments, though his Avenger counterpart is no slouch either.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: The Galaxy 5000 video reveals Jasper has a strong interest in mechanics, which in turn allows him to restore the Songbird back to working condition and becomes Chuck E.'s co-pilot.
  • Laughing at Your Own Jokes: Like Chuck, he often does this.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • The name Jasper is Persian for "treasurer", likely referring to his job as the treasurer — or one of the supporting members of Chuck E.'s band. Jasper is also a type of metamorphic rock that comes in shades of brown, like his fur.
    • His middle name, Tennessee, refers to the country where he was raised and that he was born in the South.
    • Jowls, his surname, refers to the lower flapping part of the cheeks like dogs have.
  • The Hyena: Don't get us started with the fact that he originally was this; his laughter greatly annoyed Chuck, who often yelled at him for this reason alone.
  • The Lancer: Jasper is Chuck E.'s best friend, and is more cynical and snarky than him.
  • Only Sane Man: He occasionally serves this role along with Chuck E.
  • Signature Laugh: During the PTT era, he had the laugh of a country hillbilly.
  • Ship Tease: With Harmony Howlette and Foxy Colleen in the Pizza Time Theatre era.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: He seemed to have a beef with Steve Waters, Pasqually's vocal coach, in the early Rockstar showtapes, though this died down with the change in show formats in 2014.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: In a 1996 comic book that took place at the old west, he pictures himself to be superior to Chuck E.
  • Phrase Catcher: "Turn off the fruitcake dog!!" from the early PTT years, which Chuck E. would deliver in frustration to Jasper's original dopiness.
  • The Smart Guy: Jasper generally delivers some snarky quips, and is generally one of the saner characters.

    Pasqually P. Pieplate

Chef Pasqually P. Pieplate

Pasqually's current "Rockstar" look, 2013-present
Voiced by: John Widelock (1977) (demo role), Joe Spano (1977–1982, 1983), Scott Wilson (1982, 1984–1986), Bob West (1986–1994; August 1995; 1996–1998), Joel McCrary (April 1994–December 1995), Doug Moncrief (August 1995–January 1996, singing role), Duncan Brannan (December 1996–1997, 1999), Earl Fisher (1999-present), Jeremy Blaido (singing role, 2012–2014)
Played by: Steven Lange (1999, Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000)
The drummer and formerly accordion player. Pasqually is a goofy Italian chef.
  • Big Fun: Pasqually is this to the gang, and is quite the goofball.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: For a goofy, silly man, Pasqually is an excellent pizza cook.
  • Characterization Marches On: Originally, Pasqually was a high-class man with an interest in opera. From the Tux era onward, his opera interest has disappeared in favor of comedy.
  • Chaste Toons: A downplayed example. The Rockstar era gives him a nephew named Gino, the son of his sister Paola.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: He is so silly on so many levels. Among other things, he owns a mold collection.
  • Cool Old Guy: In the Galaxy 5000 video, he mentions having participated in the titular race five times years before the events of the film.
  • Demoted to Extra: In the Galaxy 5000 movie due to staying behind on Earth while Chuck E. and the others go to Orion; his usual position was taken by Charlie for the majority of the film.
  • Elephant in the Living Room: His imaginary friend, a giant armadillo named Phil.
  • Fat Best Friend: Pasqually isn't exactly thin, and he's quite friendly.
  • Funny Foreigner: He's Italian (complete with a stereotypical high-pitched accent) and very goofy.
  • Gonk: Other characters see him as rather weird looking. But what really stands out to this is how he looked in the early "Baking with Betty" segments. Lampshaded by Jasper in a 2012 show, with Jasper referring to Pasqually as a humanoid rather than a human.
  • Laughing at Your Own Jokes: He often makes a lot of jokes, and laughs them off, making the others laugh as well, but sometimes, he tends to annoy the others with them as well.
  • Meaningful Name: Pasqually P. Pieplate is a pizza cook.
  • Only One Name: His full name, "Pasqually P. Pieplate", is rarely used. Generally, he's only referred to as either simply "Pasqually" or "Pasqually the Chef". His surname was only used in a 1995 showtape.
  • Quirky Curls: Pre-Rockstar, Pasqually had curly hair.
  • Signature Laugh: His high-pitched "A-heeheeheeheehee!", usually after telling a joke.
  • Simpleton Voice: His Italian falsetto.
  • Team Chef: Pasqually happens to be a skilled pizza cook. Justified as they are in a pizzeria.
  • Token Human: The one human in the bunch.
  • Vocal Evolution: Earl Fisher's Pasqually has gotten higher-pitched as the years passed. Compare his vocals in the 2004 and 2017 versions of "Chuck E.'s Place", for example.
  • Wild Hair: Pasqually is shown to have had a really unkempt haircut in his younger years in Galaxy 5000.

    Bella Bunny

Bella Bunny (a.k.a. Bella B.)

Voiced by: Charles Stewart (1992 - August 1993); Unknown (September 1993); Jeremy Blaido (1994-2014)
Played by: Galen Beyea
A boy who's a friend to Chuck E. and the band, often showing up in his own interstitial shorts and some of the mid-90s showtapes.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: His hair color differed between blonde and redhead depending on his puppet designs. His live-action appearance makes him brunette.
  • Ascended Extra: While Charlie was only a supporting/recurring visitor in the showtapes, the Galaxy 5000 film was his biggest role yet, with the issue behind his aunt and uncle's farm being the reason why Chuck E. enters the Galaxy 5000, in addition to joining his team and riding in the Songbird with him.
  • Cheerful Child: He's a child friend of Chuck E.'s, and very cheerful about things.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: His eyes are blue.
  • Put on a Bus: Hasn't appeared since the 90s, save for a brief cameo in the 40th anniversary showtape and again in a 2020 video.
  • Sixth Ranger: He serves as one in Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000.
  • Vocal Dissonance: In the showtapes, Charlie had a teenaged sounding voice despite appearing around 6-8 years old. Later appearances give him a proper child voice prone to Singing Voice Dissonance.

    Larry

Larry the Technician

Played by: Paul T. Taylor
The accident-prone technician for Munch's Make Believe Band.
  • The Klutz: He's the last person anyone rational would trust in a technician role.
  • Informed Judaism: The Holiday-themed showtapes from the Avenger era revealed Larry celebrates Hanukkah.
  • Put on a Bus: Disappeared after the mid-2010s for no reason, likely due to the showtapes ditching their original format.
  • Simpleton Voice: Has a goofy high-pitched voice to go along with his klutzy persona.

    Steve Waters

Steve Waters

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aaf65960_aedf_40d7_9573_f3196c0bd624.png
Played by: Ryan Hollingsworth (2012-2014); Eric Neal (2014-present)
Pasqually's vocal coach.
  • Ascended Extra: Was the main focus of the Summer 2014 "Chuck E. Cheese Show" where he does not show up for the band's gig due to traveling the world, and the main plot is the gang hoping he comes back in time for the grand finale.
  • Demoted to Extra: Had fewer appearances following the 2015 showtapes, only making scarce cameos and very little mentions.
  • Meaningful Name: Steve Waters is a surfer.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Had a one-sided rivalry with Jasper in the early Rockstar showtapes; this waned down slightly after the showtapes changed their format after 2014.
  • Totally Radical: He uses heavy surfer slang.

    Copernicus

Copernicus the Cat

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0f2e3145_8e31_4815_8db4_f0416064ee59.jpeg
Chuck E.'s pet cat in literal mittens, who likes to dance.

  • Cute Kitten: Is a cat and very cute, to be exact.
  • Meaningful Name: Named after the famous Polymath Nicolaus Copernicus.
  • Talking Animal: Unsurprisingly revealed to be capable of human speech in the "Catsitting" video to a surprised Pasqually; the reason he couldn't talk to Chuck E. and the others was due to being shy.

    Ronnie

Ronaldo "Ronnie" Saggetarian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/006c207d_6b84_4654_9131_38cdb014fd4d.jpeg
Voiced by: Earl Fisher

  • 13 Is Unlucky: His t-shirt has a number 13 on it, symbolizing his lack of luck.
  • Butt-Monkey: Crusty is described as "a creature of misfortune".
  • Cat Stereotype: A black cat who's a Butt-Monkey, wearing a t-shirt with the unlucky number 13 on it.
  • The Eeyore: He's a perpetually depressed cat.
  • Fat and Skinny: The skinny to Chuck E.'s fat.
  • Foil: To Chuck E.; while Chuck was a dimwitted idiot who thought he was running the show, Crusty was really the one calling the shots.
  • Put on a Bus: He never made it out of the first location; he was replaced by Mr. Munch when the second location opened.
  • Straight Man: His role was to serve as this to Chuck E.

    Madame Oink

Voiced by: unidentified voice actress (1978–1980)
An Irish fox who guest starred in three showtapes. Despite being listed as "Foxy Colleen", she is always referred to by the others as "Foxy Flanagan"; one showtape has Foxy mention that she's been spoken for by "Kelly of Colleen", implying she adopted his name, but the others don't know.

    Sally Sashay

Sally Sashay

A disco-singing skunk who appeared in one showtape.
  • Berserk Button: Making jokes about her "perfume".
  • In-Series Nickname: The "Beauty from Biloxi".
  • Pink Means Feminine: She wears a pink gown.
  • Sassy Black Woman: She was voiced by Black singer Lady Bianca, and has quite the sass; along with Harmony, Sally is one of the few guest stars who actively fight back against Chuck E.'s insults.
  • Smelly Skunk: She has a beautiful voice and an awful smell; other characters frequently make jokes at the expense of her stench.

    Harmony Howlette

    Flapjack

Flapjack

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6fe48782_b951_4ecd_b5f2_0312978ca559.png
Played by: Don Shook
A mechanic who runs the local garage on the Mach-7 Gateway, and Pasqually's former co-pilot.
  • Cool Old Guy: He was Pasqually's co-pilot many years ago.
  • Vague Age: It's unclear how old Flapjack is; he's already shown to be an old man in an old photo with him and Pasqually.

    Dr. Zoom

Dr. Zoom

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c05d1655_0ceb_49e8_aedc_20d02d179122.png
Played by: Jackson Kane; Neil Bligh (singing voice)
The villainous creator of Zoom Gas, and the captain of the X-Team.
  • Big Bad: Serves as the film's primary antagonist, whom the X-Pilots work for.
  • Classy Cane: Dr. Zoom brandishes a cane at all times.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Dr. Zoom really hams it up in his Villain Song.
  • Evil Old Folks: Zoom is an old man and the Big Bad.
  • Expy: His name and suit are reminiscent of Judge Doom.
  • Greed: Implied to be his primary motivation.
  • Light Is Not Good: He wears a white suit and hat and is the Big Bad.
  • Mad Scientist: While he's not the insane kind, he is one of the immoral and evil kind, creating a sight-improving drug out of chicken extract.
  • Morality Pet: Subverted hard. He seems to be the only person who can stop Peter and Ivan from being too violent, but it's not only just for pragmatic reasons, but he actually encouraged their rude behavior in the first place.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Dr. Zoom wears a white suit and makes Zoom Gas out of chicken, bringing Colonel Sanders to mind.
  • Not So Stoic: While Zoom maintains a cold, reserved demeanor throughout the film, his "Zoom Gas" song has him raise his voice constantly. He also has a breakdown once the Songbird wins the final race.
  • Obviously Evil: Even before he is revealed to be the mastermind behind the X-Pilot's success, the businessman-like costume, the cartoon villain like name, and the fact that he didn't stop the X Pilots from hurting Chuck E. out of any moral reasons kind of give it away. In fact, in Jasper's song, he calls him "that evil Dr. Zoom" before his true nature was revealed.
  • Outdated Outfit: While other characters wear more modern clothing, Zoom wears a 1900s suit.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Dr. Zoom stops the X-Pilots from getting into a physical fight with Chuck E., only so they would beat him in a race instead.
  • Put on a Prison Bus: He is arrested in the end alongside the X Pilots.
  • The Unfought: He and Chuck E Cheese only appear together in one scene and even then, they don't even interact with each other. The only character he interacts with besides the X-Pilots is Helen, and there isn't much of a confrontation or fight scene between them.
  • Villain Ball: Zoom's plan to kill Helen and transform her into Zoom Gas doesn't account for the fact that she can pluck out a feather to pick the lock and escape.
  • Villain Song: Zoom Gas, of course.
  • Villain in a White Suit: Zoom is the Big Bad, and wears a mostly white suit.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Dr. Zoom tries to turn Helen into chicken juice to use in his Zoom Gas. Also of note, Helen refers to the other chickens as girls too.

    The X-Pilots

The X-Pilots (Peter and Ivan)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4d97d025_bcb4_406d_a700_99c4069d4916.png
Played by: Kenyon Holmes (Peter); Rob Flanagan (Ivan)
The mean and arrogant champions of the Galaxy 5000, who secretly use Zoom Gas to win.
  • Berserk Button: The X-Pilots really hate it when you bring up accusations of them cheating. Just ask the poor reporter they beat up when he asked them to comment on why they were disqualified at last year's event for cheating.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": They wear their "X" insignia on their shirts; Peter's is on his left shoulder while Ivan's is on his chest.
  • The Bully: Chuck E. Cheese calls both of them that and they most certainly show.
  • The Dividual: They're always seen together, acting the same, and are never seen apart.
  • Dumb Jock: Despite their strength, they're not really the brightest bulbs in the lamp. When they rub Chuck E.'s loss in his face, they spell "loser" as "L-O-S-U-R".
  • Evil Is Hammy: The X-Pilots are very boisterous, hamming up nearly every line.
  • Expy: They are obvious knockoffs of Hans and Franz.
  • Faux Affably Evil: They can certainly be boastful and laidback gentlemen who flirt with women, until someone sets them off and they are ready to rough them up, ladies, animals, whatever.
  • The Heavy: They are more active than Dr. Zoom and Chuck E. only directly faces these guys for the whole movie while never confronting Zoom directly.
  • Insecure Protagonist, Arrogant Antagonist: Both are the arrogant and cheating antagonists toward Chuck E. as the insecure protagonist.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • They would hit anyone, even an actual dog like Jasper (though they never get the chance to do so since Dr. Zoom stops them from going that far, albeit for the wrong reasons.)
    • While thinking Helen has betrayed Chuck E to hang out with them (which she was faking), they just had to go to the Soda Shop and rub it in his face.*
  • Laughably Evil: While they are bullies to root against, their entertaining streak as a result of their stupidity makes it very hard to take them seriously.
Red and Black and Evil All Over: Their uniforms are both red and black, representing their arrogance and antagonistic behavior. Also, Peter's uniform has a red top while Ivan's is all black.
  • Stupid Evil: Justified in their case. The Zoom Gas causes brain damage as a side effect of seeing better at fast speeds.
  • Unexplained Accent: Despite other characters on Planet Orion not named Harry having American accents, the X-Pilots have thick, stereotypical German accents.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: They can be jerks to each other like they do everyone else (In fact their last scene is them arguing who's fault their defeat is), but they at least work great as a team while having a good time together.
  • Would Hit a Girl: The X-Pilots respond in the affirmative when Jasper asks them if they would hit a lady (Helen). That and they aren't the least bit hesitant to assist Dr. Zoom's plan to jucify Helen.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The X-Pilots don't seem to care that one of the Songbird's passengers is a young boy as that did not stop them from attacking the Songbird or trying to knock it out of the race.

    Astrid

Astrid

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8fa33b58_ad95_4416_9fb5_ac6cba90987a.png
Played by: Lydia Mackay
A rich woman who visits Planet Orion for the race, and Chuck E.'s initial love interest. Seems to have an interest in racers, but secretly only likes them for the prize money.

  • Beauty Is Bad: Astrid's looks hide her true colors as a deeply unpleasant woman.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Helen's Betty, toward Chuck E.'s Archie.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Seems friendly on the outside, but on the inside, she's a manipulative Rich Bitch who only dates racers for the coveted prize money.
  • Broken Pedestal: Chuck E. immediately drops his crush on her after seeing her with Peter and Ivan and realizing she only liked him for the money. He's not too hurt by this though, since there are more pressing matters to deal with.
  • Gold Digger: She doesn't actually love the racers - just their money.
  • Ironic Name: Her name is Scandinavian for "Divinely beautiful". While she is indeed that on the outside, the real Astrid is anything but.
  • Karma Houdini: Outside of being pissed that the X-Pilots lost (and thus can't get the prize money for herself), she doesn't suffer any real comeuppance for manipulating Chuck E's feelings and ditching him for the X-Pilots and in fact exits the movie freely once she takes her handkerchief back from the X-Pilots and stomps her foot on one of them. This is most likely due to being a Villainy-Free Villain who doesn't do much to hinder the main plot.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She generally wears hot pink.
  • Romantic False Lead: To Chuck E. Little does he know she's only liking him for the prize money; when he does not show up at the soda shop before the final race, she leaves him for the X-Pilots instead.
  • Rich Bitch: Astrid is rich (enough to afford going to the race using all of her summer money), and far from a pleasant person.
  • Villainy-Free Villain: While she is definitely an unpleasant Gold Digger, she nevertheless poses no true threat to Chuck E.'s chances of winning the race and doesn't resort to any illegal tricks like Dr. Zoom and the X-Pilots did. Once Chuck E. finally realises her true colors, he isn't even interested in doing anything to her in retribution as his true focus is to win the race and save Charlie's farm.

    Harry

Harry the Hermit

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/638f039a_e322_4be2_af36_656fb0ace43b.png
Played by: Steven Lange, Mike McFarland (singing voice)
A wise hermit who lives in the caves, and Chuck E.'s teacher.

  • Eccentric Mentor: Although his ways of teaching Chuck E. range from regular to outlandish, he still has all the answers and skills to helping him become better at racing.
  • Identical Stranger: Resembles Pasqually dead-on, complete with a similar mustache, albeit with messier and paler hair. Chuck E. even lampshades this twice.
  • Mentor Archetype: To Chuck E.; he brings up the reason behind his failed attempts at Vega-2 was due to a lack of training, and provided him the skills he needs to become more focused and self-assertive, and to feel more confident he could win.
  • Messy Hair: Has a wild and bedraggled grey hairdo which closely resembles a failed afro cut.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Has a tendency to slip into the Italian accent of his Earth doppelgänger in a few scenes, such as when Chuck E. first encounters him and when his crystal ball stops working during the Galaxy 5000.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Was this to Chuck E., revealing he didn't do any training before the race, and was kind enough to train him and help him discover his true potential and be more assertive of himself.
  • Unexplained Accent: While most characters on the planet Orion have American accents, Harry has a British accent.
