Main Characters

    Tomoshibi Arajin

Tomoshibi Arajin

Voiced by: Genki Okawa (Japanese), Alex Mai (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/359688_2cbea.jpg

An unlucky kid who returned to his old hometown. Apart from trying to survive the delinquent politics that dominate his new school, he also hopes to change his luck by getting into the pants of the cute girl in his class.

  • Beneath the Mask: For all his bravado as a Casanova Wannabe it is heavily implied that his rude persona is actually a coping mechanism that he developed after failing to muster up the courage to aid Asamine when the latter was surrounded and beaten up by a group of large bullies, especially given his inability to willingly even look Asamine in the eyes.
  • But Not Too Foreign: Heavily suggested that he has some Chinese lineage given that he wears a tang shirt under his gakuran and he occasionally helps his mom run their Chinese themed restaurant. Not to mention that the original Aladdin was Chinese.
  • Bystander Syndrome: He has a preference of staying on the side lines when he sees the banchos fighting each other. He justifies this saying he doesn't care for them as friends and shouldn't throw himself into the fray.
  • Casanova Wannabe: He desperately wants to prove he's every girl's dream come true. Despite his flowery show, it does little to hide how desperate and childish he really is.
  • Character Development: He learns to accept responsibility for abandoning Matakara and tells him that he isn't alone. That and he makes a genuine effort to be friends with him again.
  • Claimed by the Supernatural: Unknownst to him, he has a lotus shaped tattoo just above his fanny. Only Senya knows of this but is keeping it a secret for the time being.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Has a habit of losing his clothes leaving him in nothing but his colored undies.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: To Aladdin himself. The original fairy tale portrayed him as a brave and clever boy who genuinely cared for his mother and had pure intentions with falling in love with the princess. By comparison, Arajin is a selfish coward who doesn't think his ideas through, constantly disrespects his mother and pursues his love interest Mahoro just so he can lose his virginity to her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: One of his many flaws is that he jumps head first into a dangerous idea without realizing of the consequences that come afterwards.
  • Fair-Weather Friend: Throughout the series, he switches allegiances with the gangs based on whatever suits him best. Ex. He joined Siguma Squad just so he could get in Marito's good graces with the hope of earning his sister's hand. And later, he would join the NG Boys after the Emperor used flashy showgirls to sway him.
  • Female Gaze: The lotus shaped tattoo on his back is located just above his fanny, so every time it's noticed it comes along with gratuitous butt shots.
  • Friendship Denial: He constantly denies his friendship with Matakara, even with everyone else believing them to be close buddies.
  • Heroic Resolve: In the end of Episode 11, Arajin seeks out Senya to fuse with him so he can save Matakara.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: His greatest wish is to lose his virginity. He constantly pursues Mahoro just because she's the closest girl in the vicinity and isn't against fantasizing about beautiful ladies fawning over him.
  • In-Series Nickname:
    • Refered to as "Ara-chan" by Matakara.
    • Gets called "Ara-teen" by Minato.
    • He also gets called "AJ" by Akutaro.
    • Likewise gets called "Ara-pyon" by delinquents from Minato Kai and Siguma Squad after defeating Akutaro.
  • In the Blood: He credits his parents for teaching him how to cook excellent Chinese cuisine.
  • Informed Attribute: In his opening scene, Arajin mentions that he played bass in a band. Granted, given how quickly his bass vanished along the glasses he wore in the same scene, it could be that he was trying to fake a 'cool' persona as a part of his Casanova Wannabe routine.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • Even though he initially chooses not to get involved in the Minato Kai-Siguma Squad War, especially as the NG Boys ambush them, he does bring up that he never considered any of them to be his real friends and he shouldn't have to risk his life getting hurt for people he doesn't care about.
    • In Episode 8, he rudely tells Matakara the truth about him abandoning him out of cowardice and that he's not the strong guy Matakara believes him to be. As cruel as the action was, moreso given how much Matakara was suffering in that moment, Arajin was right to point out that his old friend was unfairly idolizing him as something he wasn't.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: He suffers a lot of misfortune throughout the show. But given his rude behavior and perversions, you wouldn't mind seeing him suffer for his actions.
  • Mistaken for Insane: Given how casually he yells and berates Senya whose Invisible to Normals, most people assume he's on the loopy side.
  • No Sympathy: He treats the news of Matakara's brother being hospitalized after being stabbed in juvie as an annoyance.
  • Signature Move: His go-to attack after bonding with Senya is to throw a single punch at his opponents.
  • Took a Level in Badass: At the climax of Episode 6, Arajin manages to boost up his merge rate with Senya and successfully defeats Akutaro in combat.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Arajin started out as a good-hearted kid who cared for his friend Matakara. But after that fateful day, not only did he decide to cut off his friendship with Matakara but he also became a self-absorbed jerk who only cares about his own wants and doesn't like bonding with other people. That's not even getting into how he views women.
  • They Just Dont Get It: Even after Mahoro makes it clear that she hates him mixed with ALL the red flags around her background and personality, Arajin doesn't care and still longs to make her his first time.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Based on Matakara's flashbacks, Arajin was a friendly boy who took his friendships seriously. Compare him to his present self who's devolved into a selfish, entitled pervert who treats Asamine with cold hostility.
  • You Remind Me of X: Senya claims that his relationship with Matakara reminded him of his own friendship with Ichiya when they first met.

    Senya

Senya

Voiced by: Masafumi Kobatake (Japanese), Chris Guerrero (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/senya.jpg

A boisterous and overly-friendly genie or "Honki person" who was awoken by Arajin and is now assigned to stay by his side to grant his one wish. He also loves a good fight and hopes to make a strong fighter out of the boy.

  • Blood Knight: As a being who lives and breathes fighting, he genuinely enjoys any type of violence he comes across. Such as during Siguma Squad's Look-That-A-Way challenge where he takes utter delight in seeing Marito's stooges punch each other unconscious.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: He loves to fight and is always excited to see what type of battles and conflicts the teens of today get into.
  • But Now I Must Go: Subverted. At first it seems that Senya and Ichiya will be moving on with their lives after working out their respective issues. But the last scene shows Arajin finding his bolt again which results in Senya's return.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • As much as he loves seeing people beat each other to a pulp, he doesn't like it when the fighters get into a fight because someone else ordered them to rather then of their own convictions.
    • In Episode 11, while he did plan on using Arajin's body to confront Ichiya, he promised to return it back to the boy afterwards.
  • Flaming Hair: The way his hair is animated, mixed with his hot-blooded personality, makes it seem like his hair is on fire.
  • Graceful Loser: After explaining his reasons for merging with Arajin along with showing genuine remorse for his secrecy, he abides by Arajin's wish of ending his relationship with him.
  • Invisible to Normals: No one apart from Arajin can see him given that he was the person to free him from his prison. The only way someone else can see him is if they touch the magic metal bolt on Arajin's head.
  • It Has Been an Honor: Before leaving Arajin, Senya quietly remarks that he did enjoy the time they spent together.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He is, for lack of a better word, an absolute smoke-show.
  • Meaningful Name: Senya means thousand. Together with Ichiya's one, they are thousand and one.
  • Never Given a Name: When he started life as a humble street urchin, he never had an official name to call his own until he met Ichiya.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Once Ichiya starts to manipulate Matakara along with Arajin being warned of his Grand Theft Me scheme, Senya emerges with a serious and somber expression, a contrast to how lively and upbeat he normally is.
  • Our Genies Are Different: He's described as a "Honki person" rather than a genie and has a history of partaking in grand battles against powerful foes for the sake of getting stronger. He can still grant wishes but he takes his time in doing so rather then granting them outright. And instead of a lamp, he emerged from an ancient revolver that shot a metal bolt into Arajin's head where he now resides in.
  • Satisfied Street Rat: Senya reveals that he grew up on the streets but wasn't too upset by his poor living conditions or lack of family.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: He has more information involving the merge rate between him and Arajin but is keeping it a secret from the boy. Especially since it ties with his relationship/rivalry with Ichiya.
  • Shapeshifting: He switches between his bara form to a tiny adorable spirit form.
  • Traitor Shot: Has a menacing grin when he notices the mark on Arajin's back expanding.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He proudly floats around with his chest and upper body fully exposed. The only time he wears something to cover them is during the ending song wear he wears long robes.
  • Was Once a Man: He reveals that he was a human boy who lived on the streets before meeting Ichiya. It was through their ongoing training and battles that they evolved into Honki people.

Minato Kai

    General tropes
One of the two gangs vying for control over the school.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: Compared to the borderline barbaric Siguma Squad and the snobbish, yet sneaky NG Boys, Minato Kai end up looking as the most honorable of the bunch.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: They operate oddly similar to a yakuza's hierarchy. Their boss is even a Cultured Badass who usually resides in a traditional Japanese house, which is guarded by two scary looking guys, while his subordinates communicate with him from behind a sliding door. Very akin to the more romanticized depictions of the yakuza.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Akutaro was too much even for them, so they kicked him out.
    • Marito points out that Kenichiro and his goons are too honorable to pull off any underhanded attacks against enemy gangs.

    Doman Kenichiro

Doman Kenichiro

Voiced by: Jiro Saito

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/streetfighterposer.jpg

The 43rd and current bancho of Minato Kai. Was held back 3 times, so he is already 21 years old.

  • Always Someone Better: Despite being a formidable fighter, he never was able to beat Mitsukuni in battle.
  • Carpet of Virility: He has a very thick layer of chest hair.
  • *Crack!* "Oh, My Back!": Given his old age, the geezer is able to throw his back if he isn't careful while fighting.
  • Cultured Badass: A fearless, formidable giant of a man with great skill in calligraphy.
  • Expy: His physical appearance alone brings to mind Akuma from Street Fighter.
  • Foil: To his rival Marito. While Marito is a bombastic and childish bancho who fights for any reason, Kenichirou is presented as more serious, silent, and prefers to fight only when asked of him. Additionally, Marito is a teenager who likes to kick his enemies while Kenichirou is a grown man who uses his fists to fight.
  • The Force Is Strong with This One: Even Senya instantly acknowledges Kenichiro's strength.
  • Held Back in School: Had to repeat his grade 3 times but doesn't seem to mind since he gets to run his little club.
  • Hidden Depths: Kenichiro has some pretty polished calligraphy skills for a guy who was apparently held back three times.
  • If I Dont Return: He visits Arajin and warns him that he will have to be the one to stop Matakara if/when he loses to him in the upcoming duel.
  • Manly Facial Hair: To go with his Cultured Badass theme.
  • Nice Guy: He's a pretty good guy who genuinely cares about his underlings and enjoys their company.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: He prefers to walk around barefooted.
  • The Quiet One: He doesn't say a word in his appearances. Instead, if he has something to relay, he writes it on paper and shows it to his followers. This is subverted in Episode 11 where he frequently speaks.
  • You Are in Command Now: His former boss Misukuni decided to quit school and Minato Kai so he can focus on finding an apartment to move in with his little brother. Before leaving, he handed the keys of Minato Kai to Kenichirou in the hopes that he'd take good care of them in his absence.

    Asamine Matakara

Asamine Matakara

Voiced by: Yusuke Hoshino (Japanese), Ricco Fajardo (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/theshouldbeprotag.jpg

A powerful gang member who was also the childhood friend of Arajin before he moved away. Despite his delinquent status, he actually holds a gentle and honorable heart as he longs to reunite with his old friend.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: As friendly and approachable as he is, he is still a delinquent who can and will fight if given the right incentive.
  • Big Brother Worship: Greatly admires his older brother Mitsukuni, heavily relying on him as a role model, especially once he and Arajin grew distant. This becomes more understandable when the context of Mitsukuni being Matakara's Parental Substitute is casually revealed in Episode 11.
  • Childhood Friend: Was this to Arajin when they used to live together.
  • Claimed by the Supernatural: Once Ichiya begins to merge with him, Matakara gets a moon shaped tattoo on his heinie.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: There's no mention of him or his older brother having parents to watch over them. It's more apparent since Matakara hoped to move into an apartment with Mitsukuni once he leaved juvie.
    • Episode 11 surreptitiously reveals that his and his brother's parents "abandoned [them]", which seems to have taken place when both were quite young. However, no elaboration is given as to what exactly "abandoned" meant in context to the whereabouts of the Asamine brothers' parents.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: Following his corruption by Ichiya's influence, he resorts to beating up every delinquent he can come across for the sake of being stronger. Even the bad boys from Minato Kai and Siguma Squad note how out of character it is for him to pick fights on a whim.
  • Dude in Distress:
    • In Episode 5, he ends up Bound and Gagged by the Emperor of the NG Boys after he tried to confront him head on.
    • At the end of Episode 8, he ends up in the cluctches of Ichiya who's slowly corrupting him.
  • Easily Forgiven: NO ONE holds a grudge against him after he apologizes to everyone for his misbehavior.
  • Evil Former Friend: Matakara turns into a violent war machine after Ichiya convinces him that he'll get stronger the more he fights and wins duels. This has resulted on him picking fights against Siguma Squad while turning his back on Minato Kai.
  • Expy: As a brown-haired Gentle Giant who tries to connect with their more closed-off dark-haired friend, one can't help but compare him to Makoto Tachibana.
  • Gentle Giant: Even though he is one of the tallest and most muscular characters in the cast, Matakara is nothing short of kind and caring.
  • Hates Being Alone: Arajin realizes that Matakara has trauma of being left alone, from him abandoning him when he was beat up by middle school brutes to his brother being arrested and later hospitalized.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: The emotional and psychological turmoil he faces, coupled with Ichiya's corruptive influence, quickly causes Matakara to spiral out of control from Episode 8 onwards. By Episode 10, he's left Marito hospitalized in a coma, and in Episode 11, he relentlessly beats up Zabu for trying to stop his senseless duel against Kenichiro. From the boy callously attacked by bullies twice his size to the bully callously attacking others himself. Arajin even calls him out for becoming a monster during their final duel.
  • I Got Bigger: In his childhood years, he was the weaker one and was easily bullied by punks and scoundrels. In the present, he's grown quite taller and is tough enough to take on any foe, with only the banchos being able to be beat him so far.
  • In-Series Nickname:
    • He's called "Wan-chan" or "little doggie" by the Jin Brother.
    • He's also called "blockhead" by the Jin Sister.
  • Parental Abandonment: Episode 11 confirms that his and Mitsukuni's parents abandoned them when they were little boys, albeit leaving it vague as to what exactly "abandoned" is supposed to mean in their case.
  • Primal Fear: Ever since he was a little boy, he was strongly afraid of ominous shadows that appeared to come close to him. The shadows supposedly represent his fears of loneliness and insecurity.
  • Roundhouse Kick: His go-to fighting style involves using his kicks to knock out his opponents.
  • The Runaway: In Episode 9, he leaves the bathhouse he was staying out to hide out in the Honki Temple.
  • Stepford Smiler: Despite his warm, sunshine puppy dog aura, he harbors a lot of inner demons that tie with his insecurities about strength and beliefs over those closest to him. Ichiya even boasts that he has a darkness in his heart that's stronger than Akutaro's.
  • Token Good Teammate: Compared to the rest of the banchos and gang members who run rampant, Matakara appears to be the only one who isn't needlessly hostile and has some morals and values.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After the fateful day where he was beat up by middle schoolers followed by Arajin abandoning him, Matakara became a full-blown street delinquent who was able to beat any opponent to a bloody pulp. His skills became sharpened after he was recruited into Minato Kai.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Episode 8 was not kind to this poor boy. To start, his long awaited reunion with his big brother is ruined after Mitsukuni gets stabbed on his last day at juvie which lands him in the hospital in a critical condition. Then he learns about Senya's existence and Arajin explains that he's the reason he gained such strength in the first place. He also confesses that he abandoned Matakara during that fateful day out of cowardice and not because he was weak like he believed himself to be. The cherry on top is that Akutaro manipulates him into using Ichiya's revolver on himself, forcing him into the palms of the Blue Genie.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Once he defeats Kenichirou in a duel, Matakara renounces his allegiance to Minato Kai.
  • The Worf Effect: While Matakara can defeat most delinquents one-on-one, he doesn't fare well against delinquent bosses.
  • Workout Fanservice: Early on, the camera zooms in to his muscular back while he exercises.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Downplayed. He doesn't mind manhandling Mahoro to get her to talk about why Arajin is involved with Siguma Squad.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Even after being let down multiple times by Arajin mixed with seeing his own cowardice and self-serving attitude, Matakara still believes that he does cherish their childhood values and is a great guy underneath. In any traditional Shonen anime, he would be right. But as of now, Arajin is still a self-serving jerk who's motivated by his own perversions.

    Zabu Kakeru

Zabu Kakeru

Voiced by: Yukihiro Nozuyama (Japanese), Daniel Van Thomas (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monkey_4.jpg

A member of Minato Kai who quickly gets annoyed by Asamine's admiration towards Arajin.

  • Can't Catch Up: As much as he wants to be a cool fighter, he just doesn't have the skills to fight an ends up losing every fight he partakes in.
  • Defiant to the End: Even as he's being pummeled by Matakara, Zabu refuses to let him leave to fight Kenichirou and holds onto him out of desperation.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: His prank on Arajin that was supposed to distance Arajin from Asamine instead indirectly causes a chain of events that lead Arajin to not just stay Asamine's primary focus, but also become the object of fixation of the gang banchos, including Minato Kai's leader Kenichiro.
  • Hot-Blooded: He has quite the temper.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In his own rude way, Zabu is at least aware that Arajin is a genuine jerk who doesn't care about Matakara, despite Matakara constantly vouching for Arajin.
  • Must Make Amends:
    • Even though it doesn't stop the carnage, he publicly admits that he was responsible for the Minato Kai-Siguma Squad War.
    • In Episode 7, he begrudgingly plans on making amends towards Arajin for his initial hostility.
  • My Greatest Failure: He confesses to Matakara that he picked a fight against the Emperor of the NG Boys, lost, and is indirectly responsible for the gang war.
  • The Resenter: Goes out of his way to subtly antagonize Arajin, all because he is annoyed by Asamine's fixation with Arajin.
  • Trying Not to Cry: Zabu does this after he confesses his failure to Matakara only for his friend to accept him with no anger.
  • Tsundere: He acts tough and pouty while hiding how he genuinely feels about his friends.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He badly lost a fight against the Emperor of the NG Boys. This also led to the Emperor stealing his armband who used it to kickstart a war between Minato Kai and the Siguma Squad.

    Sakigake Komao

Sakigake Komao

Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi (Japanese), James Marler (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zenitsu_3.jpg

An aloof member of Minato Kai who usually hangs out with Zabu and Asamine.

  • Animal Motifs: The mid-season Recap Episode describes him as a monkey. Which makes sense given his silly personality and how energetic he is.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Unless angered, he usually has a very bubbly disposition.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Rare Male Example. He even wears a skirt. Ironically, none of the other delinquents ever bring it up.
  • Home Nudist: He has no shame in going completely nude while hanging out in Matakara's family bathhouse.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Played With. His hair is fashioned into two pigtails and he wears a skirt. Yet his demeanor is not that different from the traditionally masculine street thugs he hangs with.
  • Nothing Personal: He tags along with Zabu's prank, but is personally overall apathetic towards Matakara's friendship with Arajin.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While still having his wackadoodle moments, he does express genuine concern and anger towards Matakara when he begins to beat up everyone to appease the voice in his head.

Siguma Squad

     General tropes
Formerly known as Ikki Union, the group was on the brink of collapse until Jin Marito came along a rebuilt it as the Siguma Squad.
  • Animal Motifs: As the Ikki Union, their mascot was a hyena.
  • Blood Knight: Most of them relish a good fight.
  • Captain Ersatz: Their mascot after being rebranded as the Siguma Squad under Marito looks almost identical to a Chocobo.
  • Meaningful Name: As explained in Episode 6, the name "Siguma" is taken from the kanji used to write "simple minded". The creed of Siguma is that they should think of nothing but having a good fight.

    Jin Marito

Jin Marito

Voiced by: Nozomu Sasaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/theyandere.jpg

The silly and sadistic leader of Siguma Squad. He takes a grim interest in claiming Arajin for himself after being punched out by him in their first fight.

  • Aloof Big Brother: He does the bare minimum in watching over Mahoro and tolerates her existence. It's also noticeable that he acts serious and dull when talking to her compared to how jovial and lively he is when engaging with his fellow banchos.
  • Barbarian Longhair: Marito has long, wild hair and leads a Blood Knight crew.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He comes off as rather carefree and light-hearted. All of which is a front for how vicious and brutal he can be when it's time to fight.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Downplayed. He turns needlessly violent towards anyone who gets too close to his sister. Though that on itself comes off more as an excuse to let loose and be violent. Most of the time, he ignores her while he manages his gang affairs.
  • Big Eater: He's always chowing down on maji kebabs. Later, he bitterly comments that he never feels full no matter how many kebabs he eats.
  • Chained by Fashion: His main attire consists of a multitude of chains.
  • Convenient Coma: Has been in one for 3 days by Episode 11, after losing to Matakara in a fight.
  • Extremity Extremist: While he can punch pretty hard, he usually prefers to land a devastating kick in most his fights.
  • Foil: Serves as one to rival bancho Kenichirou. While Kenichirou is a silent, professional older man who only attacks when needed, Marito is a loud wild card who's younger in comparison and takes every opportunity to get into a fight. And while Kenichirou uses his fists to fight, Marito is more of a kicker.
  • Hidden Depths: In spite of their rivalry, he holds great respect to Kenichiro and knows him well enough to know that he'd never play dirty. He also refuses to attack him head-on until the situation turns dire.
  • Likes Older Women: The final episode shows him flirting with Arajin's mom.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: He refuses to let anyone get close to his sister less they want to suffer a good beatdown.
  • The Nicknamer: Likes to give cute nicknames to other people.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • After beating up two NG boys who roughhoused a passing non-gang affiliated student, he returns the student's wallet and lets him go without hurting him.
    • Even though he treated Mahoro coldly while she visited him in the hospital and even chased her away, he does eat every bit of the bento she prepared for him afterwards even though it tasted terrible.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Along with his chain motif, Marito constantly wished for achieving high levels of excitement while battling. After getting his tuchus handed to him by Matakara, who was powered by Ichiya, he claims satisfaction with the excitement just as the chain on his face breaks.
  • Sore Loser: In Episode 7, he doesn't take losing the group date competition very well and destroys the arena tent in a hissy fit.
  • Tattooed Crook: Leads a Blood Knight gang and has a butterfly tattoo on his left shoulder.
  • Thrill Seeker: His reason for living stems from obtaining any type of excitement; often in the form of powerful opponents who can deliver a genuine challenge for him.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves maji kebabs.

    Jin Mahoro

Jin Mahoro

Voiced by: Anna Nagase (Japanese), Lindsay Seidel (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thedisappointment.jpg

A preppy, cutesy looking girl that Arajin befriends on the first day. In truth, she holds a twisted love for her brother Marito and takes sick pleasure in seeing him brutalize anyone who crosses his path.

  • The Aloner: Seemingly by choice, she has no friends or peers to hang out with.
  • Big Brother Attraction: She has a very intense love for her older brother Marito, and is very spiteful towards everyone else.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She decides to play along with Arajin's delusional interest in her if only so he can stick around Siguma Squad. No doubt so he'll suffer a brutal demise the longer he stays.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She despises Arajin for being the object of Marito's interest. She also becomes hostile when Marito makes a move at Arajin's mom.
  • Commonality Connection: To her surprise, she makes a connection with Matakara after learning that he too has a big brother whom he admires and respects.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Can arguably be seen as one to Gou Matsuoka. Much like Gou, she's the Smurfette in a Cast Full of Pretty Boys who looks up to her older brother and occasionally ogles at him. The obvious difference is that Gou is a self-driven girl who's able to work alongside her guy friends by managing their training and has some boundaries regarding her brother Rin whereas Mahoro despises everyone who isn't her older brother, is hopelessly in love with him and needs to rely on others to get anything done.
  • Cute and Psycho: Mahoro is as cute by generic anime girl standards as it gets. A the same time, she harbors incestuous feelings for her older brother and is quite spiteful to anyone who isn't Marito.
  • Dehumanizing Insult: In Episode 12, she refers to Kenichirou, who happens to be dark-skinned, as a gorilla and casually mentions how he had a "human" name before.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: The girl shamelessly takes pictures of her brother when he's shirtless.
  • Honey Trap: She lures Arajin along by pretending to be a friendly sweet girl who may have a thing for him. This is done so her violently protective brother can beat the crap out of him while she watches on in glee.
  • Hypocrite: She's disgusted with Arajin's hopeless attempts at courting her and thinks of him as pathetic for not getting a clue. Which is rich coming from a girl who spends her days obsessing over her older brother who has little to no interest in her own courting methods.
  • Lethal Chef: She has abysmal cooking talent as the dish she makes for her brother is downright disgusting.
  • Mirror Character: Despite her hatred for Arajin, she also shares some similarities with him. Mainly their rudeness, having disdain and disinterest for anyone who isn't their beloved while being utterly delusional.
  • Neutral Female: Mahoro disappointingly does very little to stop the Minato Kai-Siguma Squad War despite being actively present in the battleground; instead she needs to depend on Arajin and Matakara to stop it.
  • Pet the Dog: She feels genuine sympathy towards Matakara when she assumes that his older brother died. She even demands that Arajin check on him to see how he's doing.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Mahoro gives one to Akutaro by saying that he's a hollow nobody with lackluster values.
  • Slapstick Knows no Gender: She gets punched by her beloved brother while he was sleep-fighting.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only important female character in the cast.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Along with obsessing over her brother and taking pictures of him shirtless, Mahoro has a habit of taking pictures of him when he isn't looking or while he's sleeping as shown in Episode 8. She even tried to kiss him on the lips while he was asleep in Episode 2.
  • Super-Scream: She tends to unleash a high-pitched scream at people she doesn't like. Unlike traditional examples, it's just a common shriek that only catches people off guard.
  • They Just Dont Get It: Much like Arajin, Mahoro just won't take a clue over how little her brother thinks of her and doesn't prioritize her like she hopes for.

Marito's Number Two in the Siguma Squad and his long-time comrade.

  • Batman Gambit: He purposefully tries to challenge Kenshirou to a showdown which ends with him losing. He does this so Marito will gain the incentive to battle the Minato Kai Boss and grant him a driving motivation.
  • Best Friend: To Marito. In fact, he was the one who convinced Marito to become Ikki Union's new leader believing that it would give him some form of motivation in life.
  • The Dragon: The deputy leader of the gang, who only answers to Marito.
  • Locked Out of the Fight: After his run in with the NG Boys, he's left with a broken leg and can only spectate the upcoming gang war.
  • Megaton Punch: His punches can allegedly smash through even concrete.
  • Noble Demon: As dangerous in battle as he may be, Outa notably lacks any drive for sabre-rattling and he generally has no problem with Arajin joining the Siguma Squad.
  • Not So Stoic: While normally a level-headed young man, he shows incredible fury at the thought of Siguma Squad being disbanded after Marito's brutal defeat.
  • Sacrificial Lion: He is the first victim of Akutaro's Frame-Up.

    Jabashiri Nagare

Jabashiri Nagare

Voiced by: Makoto Furukawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whysoserious.png

A violent first year who seeks to become Marito's successor.

  • Book Dumb: Just like his buddy, he fails all his tests because he doesn't understand the content.
  • The Brute: One of tallest and most aggressive bruisers in an already violent crew.
  • Butter Face: Being the only full-on Face of a Thug among the named delinquents, his design in the ending theme instead gives him a more revealing outfit to emphasize his muscles over his face.
  • Easily Forgiven: Marito holds no ill will towards Jabashiri after he defied his order of leaving Matakara alone.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: On the receiving end of this from Hagure, to Jabashiri's flabbergasted surprise, who talks Jabashiri down from trying to rematch Matakara, despite already losing and getting hurt by him with no sign of a different outcome in sight should he try fighting Matakara again.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He wears the most revealing outfit amongst the guys in the ending theme, showing off his muscular physique.
  • Not So Stoic: In Episode 10, he expresses genuine sadness and disappointment in himself for losing to Matakara.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He looks like someone who keeps finding spit in his bean curd.
  • The Rival: Forms a bitter rivalry with Asamine.
  • Use Your Head: Has a very firm forehead that enables him to inflict heavy damage with his headbutts.

    Hagure Tatsuto

Hagure Tatsuto

Voiced by: Shouta Hagare

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whorememberskisume.jpg

A friend of Jabashiri and a member of the Siguma Squad, although not much of a fighter himself.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After seeing Jabashiri be brutalized by a corrupted Matakara, Hagure throws himself into harms way and desperately begs Matakara to leave his friend alone.
  • Book Dumb: In the Episode 10 teaser, he mentions that he gets Fs on his tests.
  • Can't Catch Up: Although he embraces the delinquent life with great enthusiasm, Hagure's fighting skills and physical abilities greatly lag behind the other delinquents in the Siguma Squad. So much that he ends up as the Combat Commentator and Combat Referee for the final rounds of the Siguma Squad's Look-That-A-Way challenge after getting easily eliminated early on, unable to contribute in any other way.
  • Characterization Marches On: In episode 2 he is a Satellite Character to Jabashiri. In the next episode he shows a lively and somewhat nerdy side.
  • Combat Referee: Played for Laughs. He tries to be this in episode 3, but his Drama Queen tendencies accidentally enable Arajin to proceed to the finals without Senya possessing him. He reprises the role in episode 7, this time even wearing a referee outfit.
  • Foil: Hagure is subtly built as one to Arajin. Both of them end up in the Siguma Squad, but Arajin was specifically scouted by Marito whereas Hagure seems to be only in it to hang out with Jabashiri; both of them form a duo with a physically stronger friend (Jabashiri for Hagure, Asamine for Arajin); lastly both of them are hesitant to fight, except that Arajin has an escape hatch in the form of Senya, while Hagure is such a Nervous Wreck that he barely dares to even just eavesdrop on stronger adversaries before easily getting scared and fleeing once he is noticed. In the latter episodes, while Arajin doubles down on his cowardice despite having Senya's power at his disposal, Hagure is shown to be sincerely enthusiastic about being a delinquent, even though what he can contribute in battle is very limited and he often ends up being the Combat Referee.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: He does this to Jabashiri after he expresses a desire in fighting Matakara again despite his poor health condition.
  • Mr. Exposition: Explains the origin of the school's two gangs to Arajin (and the audience).
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Has pink hair, is scrawnier than most of the other Siguma Squad members and is arguably the least violent member of the group.
  • Satellite Character: Subverted Trope. In his debut episode, his only characterization is that he is Those Two Bad Guys with Jabashiri. In the subsequent episodes, the two barely interact with Hagure assuming the role of Mr. Exposition, while Jabashiri wastes no time in filling the Evil Power Vacuum in Siguma Sqaud's ranks following Outa getting ambushed in a sneak attack.

NG Boys

    General tropes
The third major gang in the story, lead by Akutaro. They indirectly kick start the plot when they accidentally cause Arajin to come in contact with Senya.
  • Animal Motifs: Their signature mascot is a unicorn.
  • Beneath Suspicion: Even though their activities in recent times have spread to the Ichizu High and Marito is apparently familiar enough with Akutaro to have NG Boys forward him an insulting threat, nobody suspects their Frame-Up in episode 3.
  • Bondage Is Bad: By far the least sympathetic of the three gangs and their preferred means of dealing with their victims is restraining them with bonds made out of fundoshi.
  • Dirty Coward: The only gang that uses weapons, much to the disgust of other characters.
  • The Dividual: Akutaro is the only named member of the group. The rest aren't even named and have little to no characterization beyond their shared fear of him.
  • The Dog Bites Back: In Episode 8, several NG Boys beat up their former boss as payback for his mistreatment of them. Though given that Akutaro was using this as an excuse to meet with Matakara, it's unclear if he ordered them to beat him up or not. Episode 9 reveals that them beating up Akutaro was genuine and even the NG Girls despise him.
  • Gaining the Will to Kill: By the power of Akutaro's words and threats, every NG Boy is more than willing to murder their gang rivals without hesitation.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: The only gang in the series with girl members. But rather then fighting alongside the NG Boys like traditional delinquents, NG Girls can only work as showgirls/potential prostitutes.

    Shindo Akutaro

Shindo Akutaro

Voiced by: Chihiro Suzuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pegasusjr.jpg

The bancho of NG Boys and a former member of Minato Kai before they kicked him out.

  • Ambiguous Situation: His last scene shows him working as an NG Girl. Not taking into account his decision to become a showgirl, it's never specified how he apologized to his ex-minions or how he earned their trust to dance alongside the NG Girls.
  • Bad Boss: It's clear that his minions are afraid of him because of how he punishes them for failing to meet his expectations. In fact, while ordering the NG Boys to kill their gang rivals, Akutaro promises to murder them if they don't kill anyone.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: He initially joined Kenichirou's gang out of gratitude for saving him when he was a nobody.
  • Big Bad: The first major villain of the series as he orchestrates a war between his rival gangs so they can destroy each other.
  • Break Them by Talking: He does this to Matakara by exposing Arajin as the fraud he is and how he isn't as cool as Matakara believed him to be.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Villainous example. He prefers pulling strings from the shadows, yet he is powerful enough in battle that he can assemble a whole gang and keep them in line via threats alone.
  • Demoted to Dragon: Following his defeat at the hands of Arajin, Akutaro now has to follow through with Ichiya's orders to get his revenge.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: It's implied that he already merged with Ichiya the Blue Genie which explains how incredibly strong he is along with how he can endure any attack from his opponents.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He started out as an average middle school nerd who transformed into a bloodthirsty tyrant of a bancho.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He has the Scary Shiny Glasses to go with his tyrannical and manipulative personality.
  • Go-Go Enslavement: It doesn't happen to him but he sadistically considers turning Mahoro into an NG Girl once her big brother is defeated. He even ponders the idea of sexually abusing her as a trophy.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: After he's exposed and properly defeated at the end of the Gang War Arc, he's forced to prepare okonomiyaki for the gang members he tried to murder with his own cronies during their group date. Afterwards, he's beaten up by his former lackies who brag behind his back that they'll longer be afraid of him.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Fear. All of his grunts are terrified of him. However, those who do menage to fulfill his requirements gleefully go along with his devious schemes.
  • In-Series Nickname: He goes by the nickname "Emperor".
  • Laughing Mad: He has a tendency to do this, particularly after his downfall.
  • Manipulative Bastard: His primary approach is to get other people to do his dirty work for him. And after his defeat in Episode 6, he's more than willing to get his own hands dirty by manipulating Matakara.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: After Ichiya ditches him to be with Matakara, Akutaro stumbles upon a secret relating to the Honki People and passes it to Arajin in the hopes of screwing over Ichiya.
  • Secret-Keeper: Due to having his own genie, he knows about Senya and his relationship with Arajin. Though he's keeping their relationship a secret from the rest of the cast
  • Shadow Archetype: In a sense, he serves as a dark reflection towards Matakara Asamine. Both boys started out as being easy targets for bullies, trained hard to compensate, and were "rejected" by someone they looked up to. But while Matakara still has hope for Arajin and is a morally decent lad, Akutaro wants to destroy Kenichirou for rejecting him and is a despicable human being.
  • Sissy Villain: His mannerisms are quite flamboyant, he takes great care of his physical appearance, and is trying to instigate a war among his rivals to stand out on top.
  • Starter Villain Stays: Despite losing in the first arc, he is merely Demoted to Dragon to Ichiya and plays a major role in Matakara ending up in Ichiya's clutches.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Downplayed. A flashback reveals that he was an average teenager who was saved from some thugs by Kenichirou. He even tried to join Minato Kai out of gratitude but was kicked out when he resorted to using weapons, something Kenichirou would never approve of.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He loses control of himself when Mahoro calls him a hollow nobody followed by Arajin giving him a well-deserved beating.
  • Villain Decay: Once Ichiya ditches him to hang out with Matakara, Akutaro loses his influence as a villain and mainly stays on the side lines spectating on the ongoing battles. It also helps that he doesn't have leadership of his old gang anymore.
  • Whip of Dominance: He carries a whip around as his primary weapon.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He casually whips Mahoro when she stands in his warpath. He also tried to kill her after she called him hollow.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: As part of Ichiya's plot, he allows himself to get beat up by his former lackies to trick Matakara into saving him. Once they're alone, he's able to plant seeds of doubt and intrigue about Arajin's secret.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Once Matakara successfully uses Ichiya's revolver on himself, Ichiya cuts his ties with Akutaro declaring that he has no further use for him.

Nyan Nyaight Love

    General tropes

A dubious establishment that usually appears Once per Episode as a Running Gag.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It is implied that it is either a brothel or just a cat caffe, but what role if any they have in the story beyond being Comedic Relief Characters is yet to be seen. Episode 12 confirms that it's a cat caffe.
  • Animal Motifs: Cats. Their logo depicts a cat, the name is a cat pun and their receptionist is a Cat Boy.
  • Edible Theme Naming: All their named employees so far are named after different kinds of Chinese tea.
    • Jasmine is named after the Jasmine tea, the most famous scented tea from China.
    • Pu'er is a traditional Chinese tea originating from the Yunnan province.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: They are usually absent in Darker and Edgier Episodes.

    The Receptionist

The Receptionist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nekonerru.png

A Cat Boy employee who is always ready to welcome any would-be patrons to the establishment.

  • Cat Boy: He wears cat ears and even a cat tail.
  • Cute Little Fangs: Which complement his Cat Boy accessories.
  • Honest John's Dealership: Coaxes would-be clients of Nyan Nyaight Love in a comically shady manner.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In Episode 7, he's noticeably concerned when the Customer asks for Pu'er instead of Jasmine. And in Episode 9, he seriously implores the Customer to think about Jasmine's feelings and how much she means to him.
  • Playful Cat Smile: Fitting for a shady Cat Boy.
  • Pretty Boy: The most outright example in the show, being a cute Cat Boy and seemingly not even being particularly muscular.
  • Vibrant Orange: He is very energetic at work and has orange hair.

    The Costumer

The Costumer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thisloserisus.png

A would-be patron of Nyan Nyaight Love, who always hesitates to enter, until the chaos caused by delinquents gives him the last push needed. Heavily implied to be the same teacher that Arajin met in episode 1.

  • Abduction Is Love: He resorts to kidnapping Jasmine so he can have her all to himself.
  • Adults Are Useless: Has no authority over his delinquent students as they'll gladly ignore him to focus on other gang related activities.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: In Episode 11, he professes jealousy at the idea of Jasmine being with other men and insists that they be together forever.
  • Hidden Depths: He expresses relief at seeing Arajin stay in his class unlike the other delinquents misinterpreting it as a sign that he cares for his education.
  • Karma Houdini: The Receptionist doesn't hold any ill will to the Customer kidnapping Jasmine (and losing her) and invites him back to NNL to play with a new cat.
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: Has the plainest appearance in a Cast of Snowflakes.
  • Running Gag: Whenever he appears, he is in front of Nyan Nyaight Love, too indecisive to enter. Only then, the shenanigans of Arajin and/or the delinquents cause a mess that startles The Costumer so much that he ends up entering Nyan Nyaight Love in a panic. There he is immediately greeted by The Receptionist, after which The Costumer sheepishly asks for Jasmine.
  • Salaryman: Subverted. He looks like a generic salaryman, but he is actually a teacher from Ichizu High.
  • Wham Line: Parodied. In episode 7 he shocks The Receptionist by abruptly asking for Pu'er instead of Jasmine as usual.

    Jasmine

Jasmine

Click here to see her true self

One of employees of Nyan Nyaight Love. Never seen nor heard.

  • The Ghost: The only thing that casts Nyan Nyaight Love being a brothel in doubt is Jasmine (or any of the other employees other than The Receptionist) never making a physical appearance, nor is her voice heard. This in turn opens the possibility of the establishment actually being a cat caffe and Jasmine being a cat. It would also explain why the receptionist goes the extra mile of wearing cat accessories. The last episode confirms that she is indeed a cat.
  • Informed Attribute: The Receptionist describes her as strong-willed, clingy and a bit too much at times. But since we never see her, we have to depend on the Receptionist and Customer's reactions as proof.
  • The Runaway: After the Customer tries to steal her from Nyan Nyaight Love, she escapes his clutches and runs away into the wild.

     Pu'er
Another unseen, unheard employee of Nyan Nyaight Love.
  • The Ghost: Just like Jasmine, Pu'er doesn't appear on-screen and is not voiced.

Family members

    Asamine Mitsukuni

Asamine Mitsukuni

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_bd81991e04682c08c82027ed277f2035_bc9ad9d9_1280.jpg

Matakara's older brother. Mitsukuni was the 42nd leader of Minato Kai before he ended up in the juvie, with Kenichiro Doman succeeding him afterwards as the 43rd and current leader. Slated to be released and return home in a few weeks.

  • Disney Death: His last scene features him in a hospital bed with his fingers twitching, hinting that he'll turn out alright.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: On the day he was supposed to leave juvenile hall, he got stabbed after trying to stop a cafeteria fight. It's implied that he may not live to see his little brother because of how critical the stab was.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: The younger members of Minato Kai, especially Matakara, view him as this.
  • If I Do Not Return: The Stinger for Episode 10 reveals that he entrusted Minato Kai to Kenichirou before deciding to drop out of school to support his little brother. He even tasked Kenichirou with taking care of Matakara should anything happen to him.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: With Arajin distancing himself from Matakara, Mitsukuni ends up being the only pillar that Matakara can lean on.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished:
    • Episode 7 explains why he's in juvie. The reason is because he beat up a Dirty Cop who was forcing his gang friends to sell drugs.
    • In Episode 8, his efforts to stop a fight between some juvenile delinquents ended with him being stabbed and being at risk of death.
  • Promoted to Parent: For his brother Matakara for most of their respective lives, after their parents "abandoned [them]" in some unspecified way.
  • Retirony: A variation that happens twice over; poor kid couldn't catch a break. As mentioned above in No Good Deed Goes Unpunished, right after Mitsukuni announced his intention to drop out of school and leave the Minato Kai to Kenichirou, he gets into an altercation with a Dirty Cop that lands him in juvie for 3 years. And then, on the very day he's set to leave juvie, he gets into another altercation trying to stop a fight in juvie that lands him in the hospital in critical condition.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He looks like his younger brother with a different hairstyle.
  • Tragic Dropout: Downplayed given his gang leader status. He dropped out of school so he could get a job to support his little brother and even relinquished ownership of his little club to Kenichirou.
  • World's Strongest Man: He was the 42nd leader of Minato Kai for a good reason as Doman Kenichiro could not even beat him.
  • Worthy Opponent: Related to the trope above, Marito and Outa comment on how formidable he was as a bancho.

    Tomoshibi Yayako

Arajin's mother and the main chef of the Tomoshibi family's Chinese restaurant.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Arajin thinks of her as one as he finds her friendly, over-the-top energy to be quite insufferable. He even calls her an old hag out of pettiness.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The final episode has her gushing after Marito tries to "flirt" with her. Was that part of her bubbly and energetic personality, or was she genuinely interested in the teenage Marito?
  • Glamorous Single Mother: Averted. Word of God reveals that she has a husband who's also involved in the family restaurant. As of now, we have yet to see the husband but she seems to do pretty well for herself financially as she's able to run her family restaurant without him.
  • Like Parent, Like Child: Arajin doesn't realize this, but he takes alot from his mother as she too is an oblivious romanticist who doesn't mind being mistreated by the person she loves.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: Because of how hostile and closed off Arajin is to her, Yayako resorts to eavesdropping in her son's conversations and ends up with misinterpretations of what he's going through.
  • Pushover Parents: Doesn't seem bothered at all with her son's rudeness to her.
  • Shipper on Deck: Zig-Zagged. She roots for her son's efforts to get a girlfriend, yet doesn't insist on a specific person.
  • Supreme Chef: A master chef when it comes to making extraordinary Chinese-themed meals.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: She interprets her son's misadventures as a romantic love story.
  • Your Cheating Heart: She blushes silly when Marito makes a move on her despite being supposedly married.

Others

    Ichiya

Ichiya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/temporary.png

Senya's apparent rival. In Episode 4, he's revealed to have bonded with Shindo Akutaro.

  • Ambiguously Evil: For reasons unclear, he goes along with Akutaro's twisted wish in destroying his rival gangs regardless of the casualties.
  • Big Bad: With Akutaro's defeat and Senya's involvement with Arajin, Ichiya fully steps into this role in the second half of the cour.
  • Break Them by Talking: Ichiya resorts to twisted therapy sessions with Matakara in order to weaken his heart and make him susceptible to his will.
  • Commonality Connection: Following Akutaro's defeat and his desire for revenge against Kenichirou, Ichiya brings up how he too holds a grudge and wants revenge.
  • The Corrupter: He begins to haunt Matakara by questioning his ideals and encouraging him to embrace anger and hatred. All of this is done to make him easier to possess later on.
  • Dying Curse: His human life was cut short after he was shot by some soldiers. Before dying, he promises Senya that his grudge against him will never go away.
  • The Faceless: Promotional material and the opening sequence never show his face. We eventually get a face reveal in Episode 8.
  • Friendship-Hating Antagonist: He lectures to Matakara on how friendship is only used for those who are weak and that people training in the Honki way have no need for them.
  • Grand Theft Me: His goal is to bond with Matakara in order to take over his body which will grant him even greater power.
  • Hit Me, Dammit!: He assumed that Senya was holding back when they were training. And by Ichiya's standards, he wanted him to fight him to the point that one of them should die.
  • It's Personal: He states that he holds a grudge in his heart and wants the person who wronged him to pay for it. The person being his former friend Senya.
  • Karma Houdini: Despite being instrumental in Mataraka's corruption along with having him beat up everyone, Ichiya doesn't face any serious consequences for his actions apart from being temporarily absorbed by Mataraka.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He has long braids of hair and is very attractive.
  • The Man Behind the Man: The Reveal of him having merged with Akutaro explains how the NG Emperor is incredibly strong and has a disturbing influence on the rest of his followers.
  • Meaningful Name: Ichiya means one. Together with Senya's thousand, they are thousand and one.
  • Mr. Fanservice: A chiseled Long-Haired Pretty Boy wearing a barely modified belly dancer outfit.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Subverted. While he was able to one-shot a much larger opponent in his youth, by the time he reached adulthood and grew much more muscular, his kicks have accordingly become much, much stronger, to the point that he can cause massive destruction with a single attack.
  • Only Friend: Was this for Senya during his adolescent years as he dedicated his time and energy to training alongside Ichiya.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: As demonstrated in Senya's flashback, Kid!Ichiya was capable of knocking out an over-sized opponent without breaking a sweat.
  • Powerful and Helpless: In spite of his incredible powers, he needs to rely on a human host in order to have any chance at carrying out his own agenda.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: Unlike Senya who has curly brown shoes, Ichiya prefers to be barefooted.
  • Psychotic Smirk: While normally a stoic type, Ichiya tends to do this whenever things go according to keikaku.
  • Secretly Dying: Ichiya explains that when he was human, he was slowly dying form an unknown disease. And refusing to die from an illness, he demanded that Senya duel him in a death match.
  • Stripperriffic: He is very muscular and his outfit is very, very revealing, thus leaving little to imagination.
  • Was Once a Man: In Episode 9, Senya explains that Ichiya started out as an ordinary boy who was training to become a Honki person. Despite his humanity, he had Super-Strength that helped him vanquish a Goliath-sized foe.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Even though they spent their lifetime together as fighting buddies, Ichiya believed that Senya was looking down on him and holding back from giving him a true battle. This resulted in Ichiya renouncing their friendship declaring that he'll keep his grudge against Senya for all of eternity.

    Asamine's bullies
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thugs_1.png

A group of imposing bullies who ganged up on Asamine in the past.

  • Ambiguous Situation: We never know what became of these ruffians in the present.
  • Dirty Coward: Implied. In a setting where the majority of young men their age tend to have rather muscular physiques and fight like lions, one of them is a Fat Bastard and the other two are Lean and Mean, heavily implying that Matakara and Arajin were targeted simply because they were smaller and weaker.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: The rift between Arajin and Asamine began when the bullies ganged up on Asamine. Arajin saw them, but was unable to do anything about it but helplessly watch, as he was too scared of the bullies. The end result was that even in the present Arajin is still haunted by the guilt, not even being able to look Asamine in the eyes.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Middle school boys who have no problem beating up defenseless pipsqueaks who are half their size.

    Shadow Monster (UNMARKED SPOILERS)
An enigmatic entity that supposedly represents a person inner darkness. After Mitsukuni's death, it starts actively haunting Matakara.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It is not quite clear what it is. Or if it actually exists outside of Matakara's mind.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: While Ichiya greatly benefits from Matakara's fear of the Shadow Monster, he and it aren't actually cooperating.
  • Walking Spoiler: As it serves as a catalyst for Matakara's corruption in the latter half of the story.
