Main Characters
Jeff the Goomba
Voiced by: Patrick TeNyenhuis
One of the two main characters, he's usually luckier than Hal, but not all the time (thanks to his lack of arms). Both he and Hal share a hatred for Steve the Piranha Plant, although he does show some sympathy for him on various occasions (unlike Hal, who outright dislikes him).- Butt-Monkey: He gets squashed several times throughout the series.
- Deadpan Snarker: Often makes sarcastic remarks to everything going around.
- Jerkass: Hal's not much better and is quicker to burn bridges, but Jeff's pretty sour too.
- Straight Man: To Hal as he's the less emotional of the two.
- Villain Protagonist: As a main character working for the Koopa Troop.
Hal the Koopa Troopa
Voiced by: Andrew Raskin
The other main character. He's usually unluckier than Jeff, to the point where he realizes that unlike Jeff, he never gets paid. He outright dislikes Steve the Piranha Plant (much more so than Jeff), to point where he has done outright mean things to him, like advising him to kill himself with a plastic bag, swearing at him harshly, and even stepping on his flowers.- Butt-Monkey: Not the only one, but definitely more than Jeff.
- Jerkass: He's meaner than Jeff.
- Running Gag: He isn't getting paid. In episode 6 it turns out he's not on the payroll, and has to go get wellfare. Status Quo Is God fixes this.
- Villain Protagonist: He's one of the main characters that works for the Koopa Troop, but doesn't get paid.
Recurring Characters
Steve the Piranha Plant
Voiced by: Steve Button
A happy-go-lucky Piranha Plant who randomly appears in different places. He greets Jeff and Hal with his catch phrase, "Hi guys!", to which Hal usually reciprocates with disdain, but it goes over Steve's head.- Achievements in Ignorance: Manages to have a child with a space dinosaur in episode 8. He doesn't know how.
- Affably Evil: He works for Bowser, but he's also one of the nicest characters in the series.
- Beware the Nice Ones: After Hal went too far on insulting him in The Movie.
- Breath Weapon: Which he used to set a Shy Guy on fire (as per the request by Jeff asking him to do so).
- Character Catchphrase: "HI GUYS!"
- Which got lampshaded in Episode 10.
- "Hiiiii Steeeeve..."
- The Dog Bites Back: He finally pulls one over Jeff and Hal in the Grand Finale.
- Greater-Scope Villain: He's the one who sabotaged Jeff and Hal's mission in the movie.
- Laser-Guided Karma: He gets squashed by Mario during the credits of the finale.
- The Pollyanna: Most of the time, he's ridiculously happy
- Too Dumb to Live: In episode 4, Jeff and Hal cause him to accidentally commit suicide by putting a plastic bag over it. He gets revived in the stinger for episode 5 however, due to the witchdoctors' rain dance.
Karate Duo #1
Voiced by: Patrick TeNyenhuis and Andrew Raskin
Two Zeus Guys who are extremely skilled at fighting, hence the #1 in their name. Their trademark food is "Lucky Candy", which gives them powers. In Episode 9, they told a campfire story on how they were searching for the seven stars and failed.
- A Day in the Limelight: Episode 9 has them explain their origin story.
- Bash Brothers: Two karate masters that are good at attacking things.
- Kiai: A running gag.
- Large Ham: They always speak in over-exaggerated Asian accents.
- Stealth Hi/Bye: They tend to appear and disappear using teleportation.
- Those Two Guys: The two are never seen apart.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Lucky Candy.
Paul Hammerbro
Voiced by: Phil Sheridan
An Amazing Flyin' Hammer Bro. who is usually seen sitting upon two grey blocks. He is best known for throwing hammers when either agitated or happy. He is apparently good friends with Rick Finklestein.
- Character Catchphrase: "That's it! I'm throwin' hammers!"
- Gratuitous Spanish: In one of the outtakes for Episode 10.
- Large Ham: Almost always yelling.
Rick Finklestein
Voiced by: John McGarrell
A Lakitu who seems to be good friends with Paul. He appears in various places.- Ambiguously Jewish: Episode 10.
- Freud Was Right: Convinced that all of his therapy clients' troubles stem from their fathers touching them.
- New Job as the Plot Demands: A therapist in Episode 4 (and The Stinger for 6), runs the Unemployment Office in Episode 6, and is a sports announcer in Episode 7.
Inaudible Thwomp
Voiced by: Joe Cross
A Thwomp with odd speech patterns. When speaking, the subtitles will usually change into "???" because it's hard to hear what he's saying. He first appeared in Episode 3.- Cloudcuckoolander: He constantly speaks in long-winded Non-Sequiturs.
- Even the Subtitler Is Stumped: He speaks so fast that even the subtitles have question marks.
- Jerkass: Some of the things he says that can be understood certainly aren't kind things.
- Motor Mouth: Which makes him even more incoherent.
- Mr. Exposition: Tries to be this in Episode 8 and the Halloween episode, but no one understands him.
Big Boo
Voiced by: Patrick TeNyenhuis
Big Boo is a giant Boo in Bowser's Kingdom, who makes a few appearances in the web series most notably his debut appearance in Episode 3, the Halloween Special Episode 666, Episode 8 & The Movie, he was originally an enemy that first appeared in the Ghost Houses of Super Mario World. He is the same as regular Boos, but are larger in size, the giant boo has a deep voice.- A Dog Named "Dog": He is just called Big Boo, named after his enemy species.
- Night of the Living Mooks: He is a giant boo from the undead & also the only boo to appear in the web series.
- Our Ghosts Are Different: Like his game counterpart, Big Boo is a different type of ghost.
Shy Guys
Voiced by: Patrick TeNyenhuis
Nonspecific Shy Guys who all sound like Christopher Walken.- Butt-Monkey: They're about as unlucky as Hal.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Every single Shy Guy has the same voice and talks like Christopher Walken.
- The Faceless: Like the games, Shyguys & their species wear three-hole masks, never revealing their true faces.
Canon Characters
Mario
- The Ace: Is just as unstoppable as he is in the games.
- Hero Antagonist: Since the show is based on two low-level grunts in Bowser's army.
- The Voiceless: Whenever Mario shows up in the web series, he says nothing except the grunting from Charles Martinet.
Princess Peach
Voiced by: Becky Pezzulo
- Art Shift: While she originally had her design taken from Super Mario World, later in a brief scene in Episode 5, Smash Kingdom & The Movie she has her design taken from Super Princess Peach, she is animated in Episode 9.
- Damsel in Distress: Like the games, She is always kidnapped by Bowser & at one point Steve The Piranha Plant kidnapped her at the end of the movie.
- Kill the Cutie: Was killed in Episode 4 by Jeff (accidentally, mind you). She gets better in Episode 5, however.
Kamek
Voiced by: Johnny Maniac
Bowser's wizard and caretaker, who has cared for Bowser since he was a child. A running gag is that he calls Jeff and Hal (mostly Hal) gay. According to Episode 2, he once taught Jeff and Hal flying lessons, but it failed.- Character Catchphrase: "What are you? Gay?".
- Mistaken for Gay: He's the one mistaking Hal for gay.
Lemmy Koopa
- A Day in the Limelight: Episode 3 focuses more on him than it does on Jeff and Hal.
- Can't Take Criticism: See Driven to Suicide below.
- Driven to Suicide: In Episode 10, when a commenter tells him he's not as good as the Fresh Prince.
Bowser
The leader of the Koopa Troopas- Art Shift: His design changes in Smash Kingdom, the design is from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.
- Bad Boss: Makes death threats when annoyed.
- Non-Standard Character Design: Before Smash Kingdom, His Design Taken From Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
- The Unintelligible: His spoken dialogue consists of audio from Mario Kart 64, yet everyone can still understand him.Hal: You know, I'm amazed how one grunt can turn into such well-written lines of dialogue.
Jeff: Well, that's why he's the boss.
Ganondorf's Kingdom
Ganondorf
Voiced by: Andrew Raskin
The main character of the Ganon's Kingdom spin-off and the main antagonist of The Legend of Zelda.- Bad Boss: Blows up a minion during an argument where they point out he doesn't actually rule anything.
- Card-Carrying Villain: He's always mentioning he's the Lord OF Darkness, King Of Evil.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Has blown up a few people all because they annoyed him.
- Large Ham: As Ganon where he tends to shout out everything and frequently calls himself the Lord Of Darkness.
Vaati
Voiced by: John McGarrell
The main antagonist of the Four Swords and Minish Cap games.- Cordon Bleugh Chef: In Ganondorf's Kingdom, he suggests they add chocolate chip chicken to the restaurant menu.
- The Dragon: Serves as Ganondorf's Head Chef in Ganondorf's Kingdom.
- Motor Mouth: Not to the extent of Inaudible Thwomp, but he always speaks really fast.
Moblins
Voiced by: John McGarrell
- Deadpan Snarker: They're usually the ones to point out how stupid Ganon can be at times.
- This Is Gonna Suck: One Moblin when Ganon makes him fight Mario.
Link
- The Ace: He's as unstoppable as Mario.
- Adaptational Jerkass: This Link tends to be more of a douche than its' previous adaptations.
- Kick the Dog: After Mario defeats Ganon, he hits Mario with a boomerang, steals the Triforce and kicks him in the groin.
