It's a fine life, between the morning and the night-time.

Tomodachi Life isn't so much a game as it is a heavily modified Tamagotchi-like thing that finally brings some entertainment factor to the eye-splitting dullardry that was the original, personality-less Tamagotchis (did anyone have even five seconds of actual fun with one?). You create an island, and populate it with... whoever you want! Family members, celebrities, fictional characters, even made-up ones! (But don't create Let's Play people because that's just sad.) Specifically referred to as "lookalikes" and not the actual persons, they basically just live their strange little lives with minimal input from you such as food, clothes and playing mini-games with them. And the end result is nothing less than disarmingly charming, unpredictably funny, and sometimes even heartbreakingly sad.

I know this much; my life is richer for the wonders of Tomodachi Life. Stannis Baratheon beating Anju in a rap battle. My lookalike Dennis Wilson imitating real life by generating the personality of a restless, fun-loving drifter with a soft side. Brian Wilson finding his other half in The Boss. Paul Williams, Shelby Flint, Michael Nesmith, and I having a Wii U and/or maraca shaking party?!? Worth every goddamn penny. And those just-barely-teetering-above-the-Uncanny Valley synthesized voices of theirs are just the cutest thing ever. I'm not one whose critical eye is easily blinded by cuteness but GODDAMN, I pity the man who could resist something like this, for they are hardly human.

However, your actual input can feel rather secondary at best, and as the dialogue inevitable starts looping, it starts to feel more and more like a chore. Thankfully, unlike Tamagotchis these guys can't die. ...Or can they? Jesus, if that happens I'll have to go back to the therapist just like when Wolfgang moved away! Aah, be right back to finish this review, I have to go give Bob Holly his favourite food... LOLLIPOPS. And why not?
