Another way to look at this Band is to split its members into pairs. How does each individual relate to the other four individuals? This can be done ten different ways, as shown below.

I have given each character four numbers, in line with a very different type of pyramid scheme. Since each character shares one number with one different band member, each number appears exactly twice. This number identifies the (arbitrary!) relationship between the pair.

  • The Leader or The Hero: 1,5,8,10.
  • The Lancer: 1,2,6,9.
  • The Big Guy: 2,3,5,7.
  • The Smart Guy: 3,4,6,8.
  • The Chick or The Heart: 4,7,9,10.

    1. Main: the task combo, which oversees the details of how the case is likely to play out.
    2. Battle: the combo that is most likely to be on the front lines when the main task goes into effect.
    3. Pure Brains and Brawn: the combo whose key attributes are most likely to rub off on each other with time (also see that trope) and who will most likely clash over the intricacy of whatever strategy the band has in mind.
    4. Defense: the combo that is most likely to be behind the scenes (or on the rear lines) while the main task is in effect.
    5. Information: the combo in which the feedback of the subordinate shapes the final instructions (s)he receives from the superior.
    6. The Spock: the combo that will argue for the needs of the larger number over the desires of the smaller.
    7. The McCoy: the combo that will argue for the needs of the lowest man over the desires of The Empire and its benefactors.
    8. The Kirk: the combo that will grapple with the sliding scale of tasks versus relationships.
    9. Yin-yang: the combo with the clearest diametrically opposed positions, except on one key front which will become a plot point later.
    10. Morality: the combo that will grapple with the sliding scale of necessity versus right (also see I Did What I Had to Do).
There are also ten possible trios, but that is another discussion.
