This trope should not be treated as being solely a result of prejudice and bigotry.
Gay people can be just as malicious, cruel, and sadistic as straight, and while classifying all as this is wrong, saying it's wrong without mentioning gays can be jerkasses to is just as wrong.

I think the part that makes a Depraved Homosexual as opposed to simply an evil/asshole gay person is that their sexuality is intertwined with their depravity.
For an example, a mob enforcer who simply breaks people's legs for not paying their protection money and is also gay is not a Depraved Homosexual. A homosexual serial rapist who takes the foreskins of his rape victims is.
You can have a villainous gay person, but he's not a Depraved Homosexual unless you can also call him a sick freak.
And overuse of this trope is the Unfortunate Implications.

So about 1 in ten pedifiles are gay. That's 10 precent of the pedifile population. 1.7 percent of the general population identifes as either gay or lesbian. Given that lesbians are in so removing the lesbians from that a 9 percent gap. Given that we are starting from 1 percent of the general poplation this is a huge discrepance. The male homosexal population considerable over respersented in the sexoffenser population for it's given size.

Most of the time, people refer to homosexual women as lesbians (hence the Psycho Lesbian trope). I rarely hear people referring to lesbian women as homosexual. Maybe originally the word "homosexual" was meant to be non-gender specific... but popular use normally insinuates men with men. I think that Depraved Homosexual has a better ring to it, as well as being clearer.

Wooly? What part of the world are you from? I'm gay and I have never heard that term before ever. As a point of reference I live in Southern California.
I agree with the original post - when I came to the page I thought it would be male and female. Nowadays, you mostly hear 'lesbian' for homosexual women (obviously) and 'gay' for homosexual men, even though gay is not gender-specific I believe it's more used for men these days.
Also, 'depraved' is not synonymous with 'psycho' so they aren't just the same trope for men and women.

- Alternatively, Thomas could be more a victim of a Freak Out and Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds than anything else. Think about it: the guy he loves is a Manipulative Bastard with a god complex who uses him (and his sister) as a replacement for Emily. He probably didn't realize what was happening until the murders started, after which he was in way too deep to back out. Then It Got Worse and the murderer decided to make him The Scapegoat. Betrayed and faced with either becoming the next victim or getting a life-sentence, can you blame the guy for going a little batty?F
A lot of the characters who're supposed to be examples of this trope are Depraved Pedophiles, not homosexuals. Those examples really don't belong here, but I'm fairly certain there isn't a Villainous Pedophile article I can send them to. Should they just be cut?

Yes (I'd say cut them), but way too many examples here simply don't fit because they're characters who are villainous or unpleasant and also gay, but not necessarily examples of the conception that being gay makes you depraved or is a sign of villainy, what the trope's about in the first place. I can't really judge which, though, because I haven't seen these works and so don't know the details of how the character is presented.
Cut from the Films section of the article, seems like natter:
- Almost all male child molesters in any media are shown to be homosexuals who molest boys. This even though most child molesters in Real Life are heterosexuals in adult relationships with women, and the fact that the majority of child molestation victims (possibly as high as 35 to 1 for penetrative rape, according to some police statistics) are girls.
- Some Truth in Television in that the child molesters who hit the media tend to be those who indulge in molestation on an industrial scale - and quite a lot of them tend to be men who molest boys. The majority of child molestation, as noted above, is usually carried out against 'stepdaughters'.

In a Singapore Channel 8 drama c. 1991, "The Last Swordsman(Chinese name:最后一个大侠)", there was the main villain 紫罗刹(Purple Raksha?), who was some sorcerer/nobleman/vizier-type fellow who typically transformed once per episode into a rather stereotypical(think high falsetto, long purple fingernails) gay person who slashed at folks with his nails.
