Mainly because while it's a Stealth Sequel, enough time has passed with enough unknowns that we'd need to seperate the character tropes regardless.
So we'd have a folder for Doomguy tropes, and a folder for Doom Slayer tropes. This would also spoil that the Doom Slayer is Doomguy, which is only revealed midway through Eternal.
Well, it looks like this page is starting to get too big for its britches; how'd y'all propose a split?
World Whosball Champion 1945-1991 Hide / Show RepliesSure, but into what? As Eternal shows, we can't just neatly cut it into demons and not demons, because not all the enemies you fight are demons.
And as is the case with Samuel, characters don't necessarily stay antagonistic (or, if the theories alluded to are correct, even in the same faction.)
I put everything from demons and down as 'enemies' and split it like that
Thanks. Also, I think I'm going to start converting the Characters.Doom 2016 page into an indexing page. I think we have enough to the Slayer to get his own page, but the real question is how we handle the UAC and Argent D'Nur sections. Should they each be their own page, or do we lump them into a "UAC and other factions" page? I'd say "NPCs", but where does that put Samur and the Makyr Angels (at least for now)?
EDIT: Right now, I'm thinking the split should actually be into "The Doom Slayer", "Hell", "UAC", and "Urdak and Argent D'Nur".
EDIT 2: Going to go ahead with proposed changes and turn this page into an index.
Edited by UmbrellasWereAwesome World Whosball Champion 1945-1991So, I'm no art expert, but is it really accurate to describe the fleshy areas of Hell as being like a Hieronymus Bosch painting? From what I've seen of his artwork his version of Hell leans more into the surreal rather than looking like the inside of something's guts.
The Doom Slayer's Status as a '90s Anti-Hero or not:
- Points in favour:
- Name
- Oversized arsenal
- Penchant for bodily harm and brutal murder
- Never loses
- Middle aged
- Rated M for Manly
- Points against:
- Has a solid moral center
- Has heroic attributes
- Has actual Super-Strength and Super-Speed given to him by angels, not through some demonic pact, nor is it an effect of the technology he uses - even if were to play the devil's advocate and say that he was empowered using technology, this is no more than Captain America, and none would say that his strength is technological in nature.
- Visually lacks pouches and bandoliers. He doesn't need them.
- Hair isn't grey, it's vibrant brown.
- No Eye Scream damage
- Doesn't brood, doesn't angst. He just does and doesn't doubt.
- Is shown to have a number of hobbies, including guitar playing and reading both magazines and books.
- Utterly silent.
- Would Not Shoot a Civilian
Which all comes together to make it a Subverted Trope
Edited by Theharbo Hide / Show RepliesNone of those things are points against him as a '90s Anti-Hero at all. Tons of NAH have those exact same qualities or lack thereof, including Trope Codifiers like Spawn. You seem to be focusing on the incredibly superficial aspects instead of what the trope actually entails (a grim, and gritty, over-the-top antihero that was popularized in the 90's, which fits Doom Slayer like a glove). I also brought up your edits here. So please continue discussion in that thread.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterFollowing discussion in the thread, the '90s Anti-Hero trope has been clarified and corrected (in particular, the laconic mentioned angst as being a requirement before the discussion), I have thus removed any implications of downplaying or subverting the trope.
Edited by TheharboSo, I found this youtube breakdown of the demons in Doom Eternal; maybe this is useful to flesh out the Eternal elements of this page?
Hello. I have one crazy suggestion for the characters' pages : now that DOOM Eternal confirmed that DOOM (2016) was a Stealth Sequel to Doom (1993), Doom II and Doom 64, why don't we simply fuse the classic characters' pages with these ?
