Find a Trope:
openI meant to spare you. (NaruHinaFan)
I was watching Stargate Atlantis, and one of the bad guys looked like he was going to pull a You Have Failed Me on of his Mooks, even pulling the trigger with the pistol he pointed at him only for nothing to happen. His underling took it as him sparing him and the bad guy played it off as he only meant to scare him while sparing him. When he leaves, he gives his gun to another underling telling him to get it fixed because his pistol jammed. What would this trope be?

A boy and girl are throwing insults at each other, and end up staring deep into each other's eyes in passionate hate. Immediately they start making out. Looks like passionate hate can quickly turn into passionate love.
Edited by Chris358openCramped hiding spot
Two character have to hide in a cramped area with no personal space. Can be played for comedy or UST
Edited by CosmicGhostopenReverse Head Desk
Head Desk: A character hitting their head on a desk in response to witnessing something exceedingly stupid. Basically an exaggerated form of Facepalm.
My trope: A character getting hit in the face with a desk, either in response to doing something exceedingly stupid, or because they're in the middle of a fight, and the desk was just one of the things that was airborne at the time.
openFan Backlash
We have a whole bunch of tropes about fan reactions to works, fans having bad reactions to things, and fans being dicks to creators. Do we have any tropes about creators being dicks to fans, or fan backlash against something the creator did where the backlash is considered by others to be justified?
opensounds better in the original language
Is there a trope for names that sound cool in the original language but kind of lame if translated? For Example: many dinosaur names are like this, such as "baryonyx", which translates to "heavy claw", which frankly sounds kind of silly.
openInterrupted Toast
Combat breaks out after a character (usually during a formal event) proposes a toast.
open"I Always wanted to do That"
Like I Always Wanted to Say That but with an action instead of a phrase.
openNot a Disguise
Is there an specific trope for when a character tries to make up a situation by disguising a friend for a pretend situation, but then a real thing comes along to ruin their plans?
openCrime drama Live Action TV
A crime show that one episode focused on 3 girls that developed a tic from the stress of hiding a lie.
resolved "But I never said SPECIFICALLY this"
Alice wishes to buy an exotic, super rare and illegal pet. She knows that Bob owns one, and, seeing that he takes a cage covered with a blanket everywhere, goes to him and asks to buy it, offering an unholy amount of money for it. Bob accepts, and, after the transaction is complete, says that she "may have the contents of the cage"... which turns out to be a rock.
Edited by LinfiaopenAborted Heroic Sacrifice Anime
Is there a trope that covers it?
Specifically: If the hero(ine) prepares to sacrifice themselves in a last ditch effort to stop the main antagonist, or to save their friends, etc., but their friends either stop them from going through with it, or their friends find a way to save them afterward.
openFilming the Drama (reposted) Live Action TV
You know how sometimes when drama ensues between two or more characters, another character stands aside and, instead of getting involved, observes the scene like it's a show? Like Pass the Popcorn has this character eating as they observe - I am looking for something similar, but with a character filming the drama with their phone or something.
I'd be really grateful if you can give me a trope for this soon, since I need it urgently. I asked about it a week ago but my question seems to have got lost.
openBait and Switch Metaphor
Is there a trope when someone is setting up an obvious metaphor, but then makes a completely different conclusion than expected?
openChakras
Is there a trope for the concept of chakras and how fictions portrays them. Avatar: The Last Airbender and Naruto use them but its obviously been portrayed in other works.
Edited by MacronNotesopenThe Friends We Made Along The Way
Is there a trope for when a climactic battle happens, and all the characters the protagonist(s) met during the course of the story show up to assist?
A couple examples could be:
- In Avengers: Endgame, when Doctor Strange opens portals for everyone to help fight Thanos
- In Girls und Panzer der Film, when all the other schools arrive to bolster Ooarai's team
It's similar to Back for the Finale, but that page recommends Continuity Cavalcade, which isn't quite the same thing I'm describing here.
