That's a misuse of Misaimed Fandom. Ramsay Bolton's Misaimed Fandom would be his ardent fans despite the work presenting him as a Hate Sink and Complete Monster. I say cut without moving to Do Not Do This Cool Thing— the work doesn't make his torture and rape seem "cool".

The worrying-about-normalizing stuff is something else and AFAIK was a criticism or concern across the whole entire series, not just this one character.

Covered in Star Wars Cleanup, Deadpool, and Web Video sand. I'm not coarse and rough, but I get everywhere.

I know I wasn't to only one to answer the previous thread. However, I didn't quite click on the exact reason you thought Misaimed Hatedom and Hate Dumb were the same until I saw your first post on this thread, and have just realized that my input on the previous thread could easily be read as the opposite of what I meant concerning a particular point. So, to clarify what I meant and how I understood things to work so far:

  1. Hating a character that is meant to be liked is Misaimed Hatedom, but since that redirects to Misaimed Fandom, it's technically a case of Misaimed Fandom.
  2. Hating a character that is meant to be hated "for the wrong reasons" (the Light from Death Note example) is outright misuse, and would indeed overlap with Hate Dumb.

So if Misaimed Fandom applies to hating characters meant to be liked (makes sense given the Misaimed part, thanks for helping me get that), how is it different than Ron the Death Eater? Does that only apply to fan works doing the vilification?

And we have Draco in Leather Pants as the inverse of Ron the Death Eater.
