Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
gjjones isn't listed as a moderator for TV Tropes, and there aren't any entries about this on ATT, so I guess that would be a problem. I don't think there's anything wrong with the warning itself, but there's a problem if it was put up there without approval. I can't think of any other articles that include such warnings.
There are also suicide warnings on Etika and a few suicide tropes like Driven to Suicide. I don't think the warnings there are problematic either.
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)There's nothing to be lost by having them, even if I doubt they do much good.
(Also Creator.Robin Williams, Wrestling.Ashley Massaro, etc.)
I dunno, it seems a little tacky to me, which is why I removed the picture of Kurt holding a gun..
I remember Domestic Abuse warning on some abused tropes.
Those are on tropes. This is a creator's page.
Speaking of warnings, shouldn't Self-Harm have one? Weight Woe does.
Edited by Pichu-kunMen Are the Expendable Gender also has something similar (albeit less formal and not called attention to by the formatting) at the end.
It does feel a little tacky to me when attached to a Creator page. While the intention behind it is good, it feels like putting too much emphasis on something so intensely personal about the way this person left the world. We're supposed to be here to talk about the creative work they did while they were still in it.
Edited by HighCrateI'm not inherently against it, but I'm a bit worried that with no real standard of when it is and isn't acceptable to have a warning, that these warnings can end up being slapped on pages only tangentially related to the issue. Men Are the Expendable Gender is a perfect example- I completely agree with the intent and message, but it feels a bit...shoehorned. Maybe it's just me.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessAs I see it, the options are:
- Such warnings are allowed wherever someone feels strongly enough to put one in (which is how it de facto works right now)
- Warnings are allowed on trope pages but not creator pages
- Warnings are not allowed anywhere
Might be worth a thread to discuss in more detail and get broader input.
Edited by HighCrateHello. I was personally considering the first option since it might be helpful to those who view these pages reconsider their suicidal thoughts. As usual, I'm only trying to help.
I also agree that a forum thread might be necessary to help get some ideas also. Speaking of which, I’m wondering where we should create that thread (Trope Talk, Wiki Talk, etc.)...?
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself. That sets up a precedent though. What about other creators that committed suicide? Works where a character commits suicide? Works that discuss suicide?
I'd agree with keeping warnings off of work/creator pages because they're only tangentially related to the focus of the page (the work), unlike a trope that's explicitly about suicide or abuse or what have you.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessNow that I think of it, it could be appropriate to open a forum discussion on Wiki Talk since it pertains to the wiki in general. What does everyone think?
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.I agree.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessDitto.

The page for Kurt Cobain has a suicide warning on the top of it. Is this kosher? Doesn't seem like it should be.
