Ho Yay is an audience reaction, and creator pages (of which I think Let's Play pages qualify as) cannot get Audience Reaction subpages.
I'm seconding a cut on principle.
[ETA] HoYay.The Runaway Guys has 1622 inbounds. and appears on 4 pages. cutting it might not be easy due to the sheer number of inbounds.
Edited by TheNerfGuyBut the Creator Page rules allow YMMV when "...it's for one of their works that doesn't already have a page or for their general work".
Since the Ho Yay subpage consists of examples limited to their works, how does it violate this caveat?
Correct. If the examples are about their work, it's fine. While the moments are from the videos they made, since the subjects of these entries are (mostly) the Let's Players themselves, however, that page may need to be checked.
I won't process the cut request just yet. Can we find something salvageable?
Edited by Berrenta she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportLooking over the page, most of what doesn't look like it came from The Runaway Guys was actually a quote from one or more of them. I don't think there's anything that's salvageable in that page. It could use another look, however, so if anyone else could have a look, that would be appreciated.
IIRC, LetsPlay/ is a work namespace, not a creator namespace.
This also means Jon's character page is fair game, as it's based on the LPers' portrayal within the work.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Okay. The character subpage should then be restored. But what about the Ho Yay subpage?
Can some of the Ho Yay examples be transplanted to other tropes such as Funny?
A great many of the examples are talking about the Let's Players themselves. I'm not sure if it's in regards to their portrayal or the real life people. If it's the latter, then it needs to be purged.
That's why I'm requesting another look; I can't figure out which ones pertain to the real life person or their portrayal in the work.
I've rarely seen a clean separation between the LP'ers and their work on wiki articles. Most tropers don't seem to be able to make the distinction.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"In which case, the page should be cut because it qualifies as gossip on real life people.
In the specific case of TRG, the Ho Yay is mostly limited to their onscreen portrayals, because all except the most rabid of fans understand that they aren't interested in each other romantically.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Sorry to dig this back up, but I don't think this query has been resolved yet.
To reply to bwburke94, that page does read like it was written by those kinds of fans, hence the creepiness factor Jon and Chugga see in it. I still feel it's applying audience reactions to real life people, even beyond the LPer's personas.
I think the The Runaway Guys should be removed because it comes off as gossiping and shipping of real-life people, and there's a good reason Ho Yay is No Real Life Examples, Please!. Many of the examples on the page can probably be moved to Funny Moments or Accidental Innuendo.
Edited by ADragoCan this page be cutlisted?
Knowledge of what is considered "in-character" here (as dubious as that may be for some LP'ers) requires more informed opinions on these works. I'd at least remove the "General" examples, since they are not tied to a particular Let's Play video and see if other fans can provide their take in the forums or Discussion page.
Edited by nombretomadoWhere would a thread for this be made?
Necroing this because it was never resolved, and I can provide my two cents as a fan of their content.
Yes, the general examples need to go. A man complimenting another male friend or showing affection isn't homoeroticism, and a lot of the page reeks of real life shipping and yaoi fangirlism. It's just creepy to ship real people, and at least one member of the group has made it known how uncomfortable he is with being shipped with his friends.
That being said, some of these examples are Chugga joking around. Which... I don't think intentional jokes count as Ho Yay.
Deliberate jokes belong on something like Homoerotic Subtext. Anything listing the guys out of character is a violation of Ho Yay's listing under NoRealLife.Sex Sexuality And Rape Tropes.
I think this can be further discussed on Ho Yay cleanup.
On a related note, there's a similar problem with "listing incidents of homoeroticism between the real people, not their fictionalized selves, through a creepy Yaoi Fangirl lens" on HoYay.Channel Awesome. I'm sure other LP and reviewer pages have similar problems.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
I think https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/ProtonJon/ should return as it shows the personalities the co-coms use when commentating. They have been noted by Jon to act differently at cons. The personalities they show here are clearly in entertainer mode. Even his cat, Bagel, is usually not that desperate for attention as Jon usually doesn't talk to himself or ignore Bagel outside streams.
But I think https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/HoYay/TheRunawayGuys should be removed. Jon finds it really creepy, and Chugga, while playing it up (because he thinks it's what the fan base wants), has admitted to finding it creepy too. They are real people with feelings, not some fictional characters you can play with the emotions of. Some people even got mad at Jon for dating Lucah because of this which is unacceptable.
