The two words are pronounced the same, so there's no way to tell which it is from the video. Corps makes more sense in context.

The thing is, to me it sounds like they're first referred to as the Rescue Core in the actual name of the group, and then it's pronounced corps as their occupation in the later of the video.

What gets me is Department of Redundancy Department with it, and the fact that it's an e sound and not a hard P when they refer to the actual group name itself.

If it helps, here's the Japanese website: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/switch/ampya/index.html

I haven't watched the rest of the video, but my point is that the two words are, always, pronounced the same and so you cannot tell (without context) which one is spoken at 0:16 — "corps" is a loanword from French, so it follows the French rules about silent final consonants.

Also, this is already an edit war: you were the one to originally put "Core" on the page, and you edited it back twice.

That is fair. I really should have come here first but I wasn't thinking about that. I was on a bit of a time crunch at the time of adding it.

In the meantime, what should we do for now?

Both words are pronounced /koɹ/, so pronunciation will not distinguish. We'll need a source that actually spells them.

The thing that really gets me is they use Core at the start, but then pronounce it corps with a hard p for the rest of the video, which seems to be what's really causing the confusion.

Asking people on a Pikmin discord, even they aren't sure if the distinction is intentional or not.

Edit: The actual description of the video uses Corps, now checking on it.

But in the video it clearly says Rescue the Rescue Corps in text.

I'm going with Rescue Corps on the page for now since it's in the YouTube description.

It's not just in the description, in the actual video it spells it out clear as crystal. Is there a reason you only mention the description?

Mainly because it's unclear if they're referring to the group or their occupation in that regard.

I know I'm not the only one who was confused about that; several Pikmin groups I was in weren't sure either if the name was Core and they're a Rescue Corps, or if the actual group name is just Rescue Corps.

Besides the fact the trailer and description spell it... why would it be Rescue Core? That doesn't even make sense in context. A Rescue Corp are a thing? Like a group of people who do rescues.

It seems obvious that it's Corps, so this can be safely closed.

Is the Viewer Name Confusion example on YMMV.Pikmin 4 really valid when the trailer itself clearly shows the correct spelling?

When the Pikmin 4 official trailer has "Captain Olimar and the Rescue Corps have crash-landed on a mysterious planet" in its description, then it's not Viewer Name Confusion because there's other organizations that uses "corps," like the US Marine Corps and the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Peace Corps.

Given that Viewer Name Confusion was added by Tokos 90, I think it can safely be cut.

I really don't mean to be rude, but I am honestly a bit baffled about their confusion about the name. Aside from the insistence that they're pronounced differently, the odd resistance to taking the spelling in the text of the trailer is just... odd.

While one user did have confusion, their behavior required actively ignoring so many obvious clues that I cannot envision it's a widespread issue.

Like I said, what even is "Rescue Core" supposed to mean? Like Rescue Corps are a thing that exist IRL for a bunch of organization. One makes sense the other's just word salad.

At no point in the trailer do they pronounce the P in "corps", by the way.

Which is how you're supposed to do it. Pronouncing the P is wrong. "Corp" comes from the french word Corp, "Body". The P is silent.

I know, I'm saying this makes the OP's mistake even more baffling since they apparently misheard the trailer.

Yeah. It's baffling. But the entry is cut and OP is suspended for edit-warring, so I think we're done here. Anything else is just needless popcorning.
