Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Tropes that apply to a mod shouldn't be listed on the main game's page. But I don't know of any rule that prohibits mentioning the existence of mods.
I'm fairly sure you can mention mods, but they shouldn't lend to an entirety of an example. They should be deleted in that case.
EDIT: Or I can get ninja'd.
Edited by ArctimonI'm trying to argue here and here that pages about the games... should just describe the content of the games, while any unofficial mod or fan additions have to go to own page indexed at Game Mod Index and Fan Works.
But that discussion is kinda inactive.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI can't find any rules against mods being mentioned.
Like the others said I think a trope entry that is entirely based on a specific mod isn't kosher, but mentioning mods sounds fine. And a Game Mod entry sounds valid to me, as it describes how the modding scene in a game is, some of them are often even supported by the devs.
Our understanding: Mods are legitimate tropable works. However, they are not the source game. Terraria Calamity, for example, isn't Terraria. Examples from Calamity shouldn't be listed on the Terraria works page. But they're real examples and can be listed on the trope page as examples from Calamity. (And since Calamity is a huge overhaul mod, they can also be listed on the works page for Calamity itself, but everything previous still applies to tiny mods that only do two things and aren't substantial enough to ever get their own works page.)
e: And the fact that Calamity exists isn't an example of anything in Terraria, including Game Mod.
Edited by wingedcatgirl Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.^ Yeah, mods can be troped, but because they are, well, a modification of a game, they aint canon or part of the base game.
I think all the games that use the Source engine from Valve are the best example.
Yo soy el futuro, luwawanu mu sadila kisalasala kio.Examples under review
- Longest Pregnancy Ever: Because pregnancy length is governed solely by the mother's own biochemistry, creatures may end up carrying their eggs longer than usual if they're stressed out. Another reason could be that a mutation makes it difficult for them to reach the required thresholds. In really severe cases, it might be downright impossible for them to naturally lay an egg, and without some kind of intervention with codes or mods, they'll be pregnant to the end of their lives.
- probably okay.
- Whale Egg: All creatures in the games, including the mammal-like Norns and Ettins, lay eggs (though live-birth mods exist).
- not okay. A fan work does not apply to the work
- Game Mod: Boatloads of them, from new species of norns, ettins, and grendels to whole new worlds for the creatures to explore. The Creatures Wiki covers thousands of them.
- absolutely not.
Can I remove them back?
I deleted most mentions of mods on the Creatures page, but Allekha added them back as seen here while telling in their edit reason that mods are commonly mentionned in main video game pages. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be the case and that just because a mistake is common on TV Tropes, it doesn't mean that it's not a mistake, after all, just because you see ZC Es everywere doesn't mean it's not against the rules. Should these mention of mods be removed again or not?
