As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
workingWord Cruft edit reason
Word Cruft is a frequent occurrence on this website, and despite other common problems like natter and grammar having edit reasons, it doesn't have its own one. Here's how I'd think it'll look like:
"Cleaning up word cruft"
Edited by ChillyBeanBAMopen "General Example(s)" as Edit Reason
We need "General Example(s)" as one of the default edit reasons.
openRemove the Hard-Coded Redirect on the Former Porn Tropes page and PRLC it
The redirect was likely a Fast Eddie facet from twelve years ago; removing it and sending it to the Permanent Red Link Club would suffice.
Edited by opal6561openMake the edit reason scrollable again
After the edit screen was updated, the edit reason box is no longer easily scrollable, at least on mobile. It would be good to be scrollable again to make writing edit reasons less annoying.
openPagination for Discussions
As was noted, Pantheon.Trope Pantheons's discussion page is a hard-coded redirect to the middle of a forum thread because the discussion page is just that long. This feels like a temporary solution, so the pagination is warranted.
One issue is that one post may have a lot of replies under it, but maybe they can be folderized by default or moved to own page like with Reviews.
openImprove ImageLinks by turning it into an image gallery section
I think it would be more comfortable to browse image examples if the ImageLinks section consisted of image galleries hosted and uploaded within TVTropes similar to how the Video Examples section works.
Dead links are unfortunately common within ImageLink pages since they rely on external links. By getting rid of the external links system entirely, this would no longer be a problem.
Mock-up:

- Video contains hard-to-handle spoilers
- Video is missing required translation

openGrid view for avatar gallery
Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
Would make viewing avatar galleries easier and reduce the pages.
There can be a "Sort by…" button based on date.
workingCustom canned edit reasons
A system by which a user can define a personal list of canned edit reasons for themself. There are several wishes to add specific canned edit reasons; this would make those wishes unnecessary. Also, this would serve as a replacement for the browser autofill feature which no longer functions with the new edit reason system.
I'm imagining something like a textarea on the profile page (maybe with a limit of like 9001 characters) and each line in that textarea adds that text to a checkbox in a set under the standard ones.
closed apparently you have to actually write a trope if you go on the launch pad
i want a trope for like 'the past had technology' like in that rabbids episode with the bearded rabbid it's so cool litterally like so cool
closed Allow fourth-level bullets
On one trope page, I saw a franchise (first level) with multiple series (second level). In one of the series, an episode (third level) has multiple examples of the trope—each of these examples should be fourth-level. I'm sure that Sadistic Choice on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "The Collaborator" is not the only place where this happens.
Edited by Someone1981openAdd Crowner, Clock and Pending Final Action icons to threads in "Followed Threads" view
When viewing a subforum's threads, these icons are appended to the thread name.
When viewing your own followed threads, these aren't shown.
Given that most people only seem to use subforum view when searching for new threads, and rely on "Followed Threads" for the ones they're actively following, this would make the view more useful.
Edited by Mrph1closed more indexes
like what i mean is I want more lists of specific types of things specifically tropes relating to different personalities like the ditherer or badass bookworm or the prankster stuff like that
thanks
open"Choose Avatar" feature when posting in a forum
Let me put it this way.
On forum A, I want to post with avatar A, and on forum B, avatar B.
However, visiting my profile every single time I want to change avatars seems to be a hassle – not to mention, I am quite forgetful, so the avatars would end up mixed up.
Here's my idea: Every time we want to post a thread or reply, there's a small section that tells us which avatar we're using. If we want to change avatars, all we have to do is just click a button to change avatars and pick from our avatar gallery, without having to leave the page.
Edited by hARded2000closed More Voice Acting Tropes
I!d like to add some more voice tropes to the Wiki
“Elders Voicing Elders” - An elder character is voiced by an actual elderly actor. “Altered Voice Acting” - The actor that plays their character has their voice electronically pitched. “Digital Voice” - The character is voiced by an AI Machine “Creator Voices Too” - The creator of their show, also provides their voice for a character
Please Consider.
openNo Real Life Examples search
This may be too much of a wish, but it would be great if there was a quick way to query for use of real life examples for tropes that are No Real Life Examples, Please!. I've done my best to edit pages when I'm aware of a trope example that seems to be crossing this line, but unfortunately given the plethora of tropes that meet this, its not always to know how many times a page is linking one of these (or if a trope got reclassified!).

We need "Fixed Formatting" as one of the default edit reasons. I occasionally have to edit an entry because it has unmatched backticks or an open folder markup without a corresponding close folder.
