But Negi is by nature a perfectionist who can't bear the idea of anyone else barring any burden. Though he might of gotten better at letting some people carry some of the load, he would most likely still put most of it on himself.
Plus in romance it would get really complicated, there have been certain fics that show his obsession on keeping everyone else happy causing him to be a bigger self loathing mess.
Eh. I've seen people way more cracked out then Negi actually hold a relationship for a reasonable period of time, so I wouldn't be that worried. It isn't a problem unless he becomes obsessively worried to days on end, but with daddy dearest back, I figure he'll be functional for the most part.
I've worked with those types of people on a daily basis, so maybe Negi to me is just a mild case compared to some of the people I've had the...pleasure, of knowing.
But the situation with Negi is complicated enough as it is. He would on one hand spend god knows how many hours dealing with Blue Mars while the rest being a Yes-Man to practically anything his significant other would ask.
Not to mention that his significant other would probably get jealous of the fact that Chachamaru is the girl he spends most tine with due to being his secretary. Assuming his significant other wasn't Chachamaru of course.
Then again I don't think a relationship with Chachamaru is very likely.
The latter would be hilliarious.
I'd be happy with that.
That it would be.
A Rumplestiltskin could be cool. Dust miner/engineer?
By the way, SCM, I seem to recall you saying that the reason you weren't checking it out was Nanowrimo ... which you've now managed to pass the target for.

Yes, Archivist, we do get it. Negi is god awful in relationships and he never could make any girl happy because he isn't a happy go lucky carefree Idiot Hero. Now please stop abusing that poor dead horse.

Off-topic: Guys, look at this character◊ from Civilization V and tell me if it's wrong to feel attracted to her. Even I was shocked at how I've experienced the closest thing to "love at first sight" when I had my first contact with her civilization in my first playthrough in this game.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. That is wrong. She is not attractive.
Also, no real woman would ever talk like that.
More like Catherine the So-So. Also that's a terrible come-on line.
You've lost. You're the Bomb Squad after the bomb's gone off. I'm the blast ongoing.Any specific reason why?
Well, technically, that's a translation of what she says in Russian — and her VA is actually Russian. I'd blame the translator until someone with knowledge of Russian would prove say otherwise.
Like I said, probably the translator's fault.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I have seen and heard worse. And better also.
Madman with a box? I'm a madman with a semi, a pretzel bender and a Heart of Gold! Her face looks like somebody smacked her with War and Peace about a dozen times.
<checks pic> Meh.
I don't know why, but her face makes me laugh.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. The face suffers from Uncanny Valley, but rendered in a different style, it would have been attractive.
Ahhhhh. Yes, that makes perfect sense. I think my mind subconsciously accounted for the Uncanny Valley factor, probably because it's not the first time I see such a thing, and it's still not too far into the UV area to be really disturbing (at least, not for me).
The thing is... Civ5's Theodora failed to elicit anything close to this reaction despite being clearly a Ms. Fanservice. Guess Catherine's elegance made a very good combo with her more modest attractiveness, huh?
Oh, and apparently, Catherine the Great was quite a cougar even in her later years. Maybe that's why she sounds like she's coming on to the player...
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Napoleon: Sorry if I come off as annoying. But I'm the type that gets carried away with protagonists attitudes, if they're carefree like Luffy, I get carried away with their cheeriness, if they angst and overthink things like Negi or Lelouch, I tend to see the negative sides.
No one can overangst Lelouch. No one.
Negima would have sucked HARD if Negi had as much angst as Lelouch.
Madman with a box? I'm a madman with a semi, a pretzel bender and a Heart of Gold!In all fairness Lelouch went through a LOT of shit throughout his life.

So do a lot of other people. Some of us get to watch everyone we love petrified permanently with absolutely no hope of a cure. Others get to see our villages burned down in front of us. Some of the most unlucky ones are forced to live alone and isolated from the rest of the world because a giant freaking monkey stepped on our grandfather figures.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariIn retrospect the monkey is also the person in question.
I'm not going to say what Lelouch went through is worse then what everyone else went through. But aside from maybe Shinji, he seems to live in a particularly sadistic universe.

The Eva and angels aside, Shinji is the source of a lot of his own miseries, which is pretty realistic all in all. Do keep in mind, he's pretty normal throughout the action arc, and only got to the all time lows he did by a succession of suck. He's self-critical as hell, but he's probably the only one who'd probably deal well with therapy. Only one who's really bad from the onset is Misato, but she remains functional at her job at the very least.
Most characters only tend to angst (and its overblown as hell normally) when something completely out of their control occurs, which is pretty troubling really.

Then again, Takaya Aiba also got a raw deal. Poor guy...
That said, pretty sure that Lelouch and Shinji still have it easy compared against Guts, but he never lets his angst stop him from killing stuff, either.
Fun fact: apparently, in one of the Super Robot Wars Alpha games, Shinji (post-positive Character Development) gives Kira Yamato a Bright Slap and tells him to grow a pair. So that should be telling of how much Kira tends to angst at times.

Shinji is a normal teenager, and teenagers are prone to Wangst.

Most kids do (And I don't know too many people who actually stay the same past their teenage years either), but again, Blue Mars. Do remember that a large focus on Negi's characterization was to actually stop piling everything on his shoulders and let his friends actually help him. His altruism is usually what gets people to like him in the first place.
