What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

The neopronouns ey/em/eir were created in 1975.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.I'm three degrees of separation from Edward Teller. Or two from the whole Manhattan Project, kind of.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)The only terrestrial ways to reach Colombia from Venezuela are: Going through the northernmost coasts well beyond Mara (you'll reach Maicao), through a very obscure road located in a dense forest southwest of Machiques-Colón (you'll reach Tibú), and through a more famous road west of Táchira state (you'll reach Cúcuta). I thought that, if you went all the way to the west frontier of Zulia (my state), you'd reach just fine, except... there's a robust area full of forests and small mountains too dense for any road to be built on. This is surprising to me because, many times, we visited some friends of my family who lived in an estate located 15 kilometers west of my city, and I recurringly though "well, considering that there's a city 20-ish kilometers west of this estatenote , I would then reach Colombia by traveling a few more tens of kilometers west of THAT city". Indeed, I though that was the route my family was planning to take, until my father explained to me why we were going north instead (to reach Maicao).
The more you know....

Lake Titicaca is on the Bolivia-Peru border. I thought it was in Mexico.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Jimmy Carter once lost the nuclear launch codes in the 1990s, and accidentally sent them through the laundry.
Edit: It was Jimmy Carter, not Bill Clinton.

The writer of The Book of the Named series has tweeted about its Tvtropes page and has said that the page is a "really good article".
In the DS Nintendogs games, meeting other dogs during walks is a mini-game. I thought it was random but the goal is to move your dog close to the other dog when it's lying down. Doing that at max three times results in the two dogs getting along. Not even the strategy guide mentions this mechanic.

Banging your head against the wall burns exactly 150 calories in an hour. Side effects may include concussion, trauma, and death.
And, here's one more: Heart attacks are 20% more likely to happen between 4-10 am on a Monday.
And finally one more for the heck of it:
The US Navy actually uses Xbox controllers as periscopes. They only cost $37,980 less.
Regular-sized controllers, or the big-ass Duke ones?
I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!Believe it or not, it's the Xbox 360 controller.
Fandom Wikia is ad-ridden to bits and is virtually useless on mobiles.
Today I got redirected to another site twice. I don't remember what the first one was since I clicked away quickly, but the second one told me I won a prize before pretending to be something Youtube related. I was worried my phone had malware, but a quick Google shows that Wikia's have been full of redirects and spam for over a year now. That's the last time I use a Wikia for a long time.
Their autoplay videos are a real pain, too. Whoever started putting those up forgets that wiki information can and does change very frequently. Videos can't be edited on the fly the same way text can.

Migrated to Chloe Jessica!I use Chrome and for whatever reason Chrome doesn't have extensions on mobile.

Franz Ferdinand (the band)'s "Take Me Out" is from 2004. I thought it was much older because I saw it first on Guitar Hero.

You can now drag 4 Twitter images by drag and drop. Not sure if anyone has this (I don't have that feature yet), but Twitter seems to be implementing it gradually.
