Only because "RPG mechanics using fantasy world" is so overused its become synonymous with the genre.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Well, that and "ordinary guy with extraordinary powers, surrounded by hot girls." Modern isekai basically grew out of the Harem Genre, adding video-game mechanics and making the self-insert angle even less subtle.
Danmachi technically isn't an isekai because Bell wasn't transported from the real world to animeland (basically the only thing most current isekai took from older ones), but it checks all the other boxes. Since harem anime usually didn't have that element, I'm not sure how much that really matters.

I wouldn't even mind the Harem thing if the protag was a convincing Chick Magnet.
As it stands, it has the same issue as the Harem Genre: the MC is always blander than white bread.
Issei is the glorious exception to the rule. As is the main character of Trinity Seven.
Watch SymphogearPerharps ironically, most Shounen M Cs are more convincing as Harem leads than most actual Harem leads.
The most baffling isekai harem lead I've seen has to be Vandalieu, who gets love interests as a literal infant, looks like a corpse and has terrible social skills.
A little late but Revolution 8 and 9 finished (I watched 8 a few days ago, and 9 today).
Xellos is not to be messed with, plot be starting, and Maid Doll is a maid doll.
One Strip! One Strip!Double Post:
Slayers Revolution 10:
Wizer once again shows he's sharper than he lets on, Gourry reunites with the (just barely) discount version of his old friend, and....oh shit! A wild Zannafar appears.
One Strip! One Strip!Lu over the Wall is still great
I’d really recommend this as your first Yuasa film
Watch the Danball Senki trilogy, they're so underrated.
"Hold on, are there any Black people in these shows?"
I died a little, but this guy knows his comedy.
Watch SymphogearThere's a pretty neat manga called Me and the Devil Blues with a black protagonist- in fact it's Robert Johnson. It's a pretty good psychological thriller/drama type of story (IMO it would make a great HBO drama or something like that), and it seems like it was a pretty big labor of love on the part of the author...who's also responsible for Prison School of all things.
There's a fair amount, but I'd like there to be more, and not just the guy with the huge big lips, and this is coming from someone who finds Superalley Darkshine boring and loves Jaco from Shaman King. At least there's Wynton from Bakugan: Battle Planet, but any modern black anime characters outside of Hunter x Hunter and Naruto (okay, more like in this year or last) ya can think of?
I remember the anime adaptation of Run with the Wind from last year getting some attention for showing several black students at its Japanese university setting and participating in the athletic competitions and portrays them in a fairly realistic manner.
It's always nice when they portray black people with respect.
Down with the pink lipped stereotype....seriously.
It's damned awful.
One Strip! One Strip!I remember that manga because its not being big was apparently what led to the author giving prison school that borderline troll ending
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysI recall that the Kuroko no Basket movie has the protags facing off against an American team comprised of 3 black guys in a team of 5.
While they don't have pink lips they are the Foreign Heel team so they act like humongous one-note assholes. Well one of them does, the tallest black man functions as the man antagonist alongside his blonde white tattooed cohort so he acts like a thug, plays dirty & brutally constantly insulting & even making racist remarks against the Japanese players I think as well as being drawn scarily while the other 2 are less important so they don't really talk or do much aside from filling the team.
Granted I have not seen the movie, just watched a video of its cool moments.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Considering the population of Japan... I bet most manga and anime artists have never actually met a black person unless they worked in a tourist trap. Completely and utterly NOT joking, .01% of the population of Japan is a generous estimate.
Its very easy to fall into stereotyping like that. Or not included in the setting as its set in Japan.
The fact that native Japanese ethnic groups like the Ainu are not included anywhere ever is more of an issue. I think there are 4 total Ainu in all of Japanese media.... yeah.

Golden Kamuy is filled with Ainu. Including Ainu that reside in Russia.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. That work and a character in Samurai Shodown is all I can find.
Oh the two in The Dagger of Kamui I knew I was forgetting one.

Wait a minute I didn't read the previous posts closely enough.
The Robert Johnson manga is made by the same guy who made Prison School?
For real?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Nadi from Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans is treated pretty respectfully. Gundam commonly has pretty decent black characters - Tomino's shows usually include at least one, and often several, and Build Fighters had Nils, who was, well, kind of a joke character, but not in a particularly stereotypical way - he was a way-too-perfect Insufferable Genius who kept getting caught up in the low-level insanity of the plot against his wishes.
What's precedent ever done for us?
It's isekai-esque.
