Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Though go ahead G and ep Rekka. That sounds genuinely vile and a great replacement.

Seems the ep was one of the ones that got zapped during the bug of 7th July. So now I'm curious. Is the Serial killing stuff onscreen in the manga ?

Cut Miyamoto. The writer brought us Medusa so I'm sure a replacement is in short order (also not surprised at all that "just" being a Serial Killer, with or without Offscreen Villainy, is pretty standard in one of his works).

[up] erazor said to me that he doubled checked by rereading the manga and yeah he said that they never showed the people that Miyamoto killed in the manga only showing him kill three people onscreen in the courtroom (the anime only just showed him killing the judge)

From Exo Squad

-Phaeton, the ruler of the Neosapien empire, uses words like "equality" and pretends to care about the well-being and future of the Neosapiens, but his actions prove this is nothing more than manipulative rhetoric. Before the series started, Phaeton sold out the Neosapien rebellion to save his own skin, and rises to power by initiating genocide on humanity, establishing death camps and killing any who resist—and those who don't. His tactics include forcible starvation, forced labor or just nasty executions. Not even his men are exempt, as Phaeton is very keen on executing them for minor failures and cloning them. Phaeton's ego and hypocrisy are manifest in how he sends so many of his loyal men to their own deaths on suicidal missions and, at the end, even his most loyal aide Livia deserts him for his plans that would have wiped out his own race to secure his own victory. If Phaeton ever held noble ideals, they're gone by the time he enacts his plan at the start of the series and he grows increasingly evil as he degrades physically and mentally. He is nothing more than a murderous, power-hungry, genocidal, cowardly fascist by the end, and one who would see the galaxy burn for the sake of his own power and advancement.

This one has been bothering me for a while. It just trails off for two sentences repeating points it already said. It also feels somewhat informal the way it is written.

I currently don’t know who wrote him up and I have not seen the series, so I’ll let them rewrite the entry, otherwise I’d rewrite it.

  • Exo Squad: Phaeton is the falsely-noble despotic ruler of the Neosapien Empire who manipulates his people into throwing their lives away to increase his personal power. Once a Neosapien rebel, Phaeton cowardly sold out his cohorts to save his own skin, then rose to power while ordering genocide of humanity while consolidating his grip on the Neosapiens. Running brutal death camps, Phaeton has any who resist his orders taken there to be killed and proves a horrific war criminal with tactics including forced starvation and labor. With cloning technology, Phaeton takes advantage of an unending supply of troops and cruelly executes his commanders for even minor failures only to replace and replenish his army. A completely disgusting madman, Phaeton eventually sends so many of his loyal followers to pointless deaths that even his most loyal aide abandons him when he discovers Phaeton's endgame involved wiping out his own race to guarantee victory.

Add/reword anything you'd like man. You know it better than I do!

Okay now then I do have one candidate from Fire Force who I think could count and since Fire Force was mentioned when Miyamoto was discussed, I’ll get straight to the point and EP him. As you already guessed his name is Rekka Hoshimiya.

Who Is He? What Has He Done?

Rekka Hoshimiya is a member of the White-Clads, who has infiltrated the Special Fire Force Company 1 becoming a lieutenant there while having forcibly turned countless people into Infernals by infecting them with bugs in his pursuit of finding a suitable host for the Pilot's Light. Most of Rekka’s victims were children who Rekka experiments on with his bugs, with one incident has him burn a group of children alive

Rekka would manipulate his subordinate, Tamaki Kotatsu, into luring a group of people into an empty building where he murders a mother alive in of her child and the rest of the children by burning her alive, where Rekka then plans to experiment on the children to find a host for the Pilot's Light while also suffocating Tamaki until she’s unconscious, planning to frame her for his crimes.

When one of the children, Nataku, becomes a host for the Pilot's Light after Rekka uses his bugs to activate Nataku’s powers, Rekka also attempts to experiment on the other children anyway to turn them into Infernals and die much to Nataku’s indifference.

When Tamaki awakens and tries to stop Rekka from experimenting on the children, Rekka attempts to murder her, where he proceeds to brutally beats her up until she dies from the beatings. Just when Rekka is about to kill Tamaki, Shinra saves her from Rekka’s killing blow, where Shinra and Rekka soon have a battle where Rekka tries to kill Shinra.

As the battle progress, Rekka grows frustrated that he is unable to kill Shinra so Rekka tries to use his powers to burn the building down which would kill everyone inside of the building, including the children he was planning to experiment on. Luckily, Rekka is stopped by Karim Flam who freezes him upon learning of Rekka’s atrocities and plans to bring him to questioning when he learns of his allegiance to the White-Clads.

However fellow White-Clad member, Arrow, kills Rekka while he was frozen so he wouldn’t spill anything about their organization, but Rekka’s actions would have a lasting impact for the rest of the series, especially to the child Nataku who was left completely traumatized as a result of Rekka’s actions.

Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?

All that’s known about Rekka is that he was a deranged and sadistic Psycho Supporter of the White-Clad who whole hardly embraces the organization’s goal of turning Earth into another sun and obliterate all life in the planet and infiltrated Company 1 and transforming children and other innocence into Infernals to accomplish said goal.

That’s it about Rekka, while he does put a friendly and cheerful facade around his co-workers and children, he in truth cares nothing for the people in his fellow company nor the children that he experiments on and shows no remorse nor hesitation when he tries to kill them as such when he attempts to kill his subordinate Tamaki in a brutal and sadistic manner, and trying to kill the rest of the children by burning them and making their deaths an accidents, and even attempts to kill Karim when he tries to stop him.

Heinousness

As said the heinous standard for Fire Force is high, which is the reason why Miyamoto doesn’t make the cut, not to mention a cult led by the Big Bad, The Evangelist, wants to destroy the world and turn it into a sun with several members from the cult turning people into Infernals throughout the Tokyo.

That’s said what makes Rekka from most of the other members is that he deliberate goes after children having burned and killed countless children during his pursuit to find a host for the Pilot's Light, which most of his victims actually being innocent children that he forcibly turned into Infernals along with his adult victims, while having a pretty high body count, even by the standards of this work.

The only other person that deliberately experiments and kills children onscreen is Sister Sumire but Sumire has far higher resources compared to Rekka being a Co-Dragons to the Big Bad and is seemingly immortal having done her experiment on girls to turn them into Infernals for over 200, while Rekka is only a normal young human being ranking far lower than Sumire yet still was capable of committing similar atrocities while also planning to frame an innocent person for his crimes which is still more than enough to stand out in this series

Final Verdict?

I will leave it for you guys to decide.

Also if he gets approved, this is another CM for Kellen Goff.
