During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I wasn't sure about her at first. She's clinically diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder and borderline personality disorder (the movie implies that she inherited it from her biological mother) and she didn't even understand why she was being abused, which only made her condition worse. But, having re-watched the movie yesterday? I'm convinced, none of her excuses are portrayed sympathetically, and we have upvoted several candidates with Hollywood Personality Disorders before... Looking at you David.

One thing about palpy that should be emphasized is he sells out THREE apprentices. Maul gets decapitated by Anakin, Greivous gets shot to death and than Padme gets her life drained.

I'd like to follow up on the post I made earlier... what was it... on the 8th?... It was thumped before I could take it down because there was a rule I wasn't made aware of considering said work went "live" at that point only a day after I campaigned to have this character discussed in this topic. Is it ok now?

Part one of my final 2020 effortposts.
What is the work?
"The Guards" is the first episode of the first season of Jack Taylor, an Irish Noir Miniseries.
Jack Taylor suspects that a series of teenage suicides are not what they seem. Jack discovers that the man behind the killings is someone he has heard of before...
Who is Trevor Lanpert and what has he done?
Trevor Lanpert is a prominent businessman in Galway, Ireland, who uses his ownership of the "Planters" facility to prey on the teenage girls who work there, having his subordinate Ford spy on the employees.
Lanpert's modus operandi involves intoxicating the girls, drowning them in his bathtub and recording their demises. Subsequently, Lanpert tries to frame the deaths as suicides, attracting the suspicion of Jack Taylor.
When Sutton blackmails him, Lanpert buys his silence by purchasing paintings off of him.
While searching Lanpert's house, Jack views one of the recordings alongside Sutton, and expresses disgust and fury towards Lanpert, expressing a hyperbolic desire to inflict physical harm on him for his actions.
Sutton himself eventually brutally murders Lanpert and shows Jack the latter's corpse, under the delusion that Jack would approve of his actions.
Heinousness?
To start, Lanpert easily carves his uniquely terrible niche within the episode itself, having drowned and recorded 10 teenage girls among his own employees, and labelled their recordings with their names and ages, of which we see one recording play, as well as one of four mentioned corpses. Additionally, if Sutton is to be believed, Lanpert was already a child abuser when he dealt arms in Kosovo. The fact that Sutton says "You're doing it again, aren't you?", as well as Lanpert paying him off, strongly suggests that Lanpert's employees are not his only victims, so Sutton's allegations against Lanpert aren't unfounded.
Within the episode itself, Lanpert distinguishes himself from Sutton, the blackmailer and twice over murderer who sold out an orphanage in Kosovo offscreen; from an attempted rapist who targeted Garda Kate Noonan; and from the thugs who beat Jack up.
Overall in the series, Lanpert also has to compete with a vigilante squad, a horrifically abusive nun, a drama professor turned Mad Artist (I'll get to him later), a pedophile priest, crime gangs, a woman targeting a family, a group of gunmen, and petty criminals. For what it's worth, Lanpert seems to have a unique and horrific MO, and distinguishes himself in his actions, even considering he has the resources one would expect from a corporate executive.
Mitigating Factors?
Lanpert has a visibly sadistic personality in the portion of the snuff film we see, judging by the line "Just feisty (or is it "lie still"?), little one. There, now. That's better" as he drowns a teenage girl in his tub.
Lanpert is never shown to have any moral standards of any kind, compromised moral agency, or any sort of tragic backstory to mitigate his behaviour.
It is unclear whether Lanpert directly ordered Jack to be beaten for sticking his nose in his business, or whether Ford was responsible, but even if Ford is responsible, Lanpert is paying him to keep things covered.
Verdict?
I think we have a viable contender.
