During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

You guys be safe G!
Fucking hell G, hope you and your dad stay safe throughout.
A million brain cells? That seems excessively destructive...Take care G.
Powermaster: Just lemme know when you'll all done and I'll do the potholes and such then.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Drafts@ACW I was asking for feedback whether these bad guys I mention whether they could count or not. At this case, I'm done for now I guess.

Hoping for the best G
Take care G. Wishing you the best.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I think the Ferret dude passes baseline; the only concern is if he's bad enough for the universe considering his tier.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsThe dude is a minor antagonist with screw all resources and a nasty niche of beating people to death with chains and burns them alive and only appears in one issue. I had issues with the heinous standards but I don't think it's that much of a problem considering he's no Extreme, Sluggo, Great Question, or Monday. The only contender is the Black Fury Imposter but she doesn't have the sadistic brutality of the guy's murder besides the castration and attempted child murder.

I'd say go for it. He passes baseline, IMO anyway.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsBe safe G
Stay safe, G
"It doesn't matter anymore. You win. It is Duck Season."to Sluggo, Durand, the Savanti Romero rewrite, and the Barbarus quote.
@G-Editor: Wish you the best luck that you and your family can stay safe.
Since the Sheridan video got approved, can it be linked to Meta Runner S 3 E 06 Global Testfire? In addition, I think a description could be "Sheridan forces the Meta Runners in his server to kill each other repeatedly". Thanks
Just cut this unapproved entry from Monk
- Complete Monster
- "Mr. Monk and the Girl who Cried Wolf": Creative writing teacher Meredith Preminger conspires with her lover to kill her husband for the insurance money, which is mundane in itself. But she gets the method from a story that Sharona wrote. In order to discredit Sharona, the couple gaslight her by making her think she's seeing a dead man, a scheme that relies on painful memories Sharona shared with Preminger in a personal essay for class.
Even disregarding how it's unapproved, it doesn't look like she comes anywhere close to breaching the heinous standard.
That said, I do have a candidate from the show in mind, though he has a possible redeeming quality so I'm not 100% sure about him.

I’d say go for it and we’ll decide if it’s militating enough
If it's the dude who kills a dozen jurors to cover up the murder of his wife ("Mr. Monk and the Twelfth Man") he doesn't count. Rich and I decided he genuinely seemed to care about his mistress enough to DQ him, enough that he orchestrates his entire murder plot to be with her.
Edited by Scraggle on Sep 27th 2022 at 1:14:21 PM
Yeah, he was the one I had in mind. He doesn't really show any explicit care for her in the episode itself, but him murdering his first wife to be with the mistress in the first place and never really showing to not care for her gave me pause.
Btw checking the character page for Monk. Has Gene Edelson (AKA Winston Brenner been brought up? It says he caused a blackout which killed three people in a hospital?
I haven't seen that one.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Haven't seen the episode yet (still only on Season 2) but two victims is usually the norm for Monk villains, so I don't really think three is enough. That's barely crossing baseline heinousness.
Were there more intended victims, or at least, more people that he was willing to kill as collateral?
Edited by Awesomekid42 on Sep 27th 2022 at 4:08:42 AM
I've seen that one! He does kill another person and tries to kill Monk, so I guess a case could be made for him but I decided against him when I watched the episode and I've not changed my mind since. Tellingly he could just be so much worse; the episode gives him a chance to become even nastier when he causes a second blackout after the lethal results of the first, but all that results in is silly comic relief with Monk running around in the dark. There's no new deaths—or even the indication anyone is in trouble.
With how utterly indirect most of his kills are, and that the people who do die in the blackout aren't really given much focus or screentime, I don't think he goes the extra mile compared to the others on the list.

Ah, one of those "bad on paper, not so bad in actuality" ones?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsJust a quick question, has Hush from Batman ever been considered for the role of Complete Monster? Or are there too many disqualifying factors?
Edited by MemeMaster245 on Sep 27th 2022 at 9:20:00 AM
I have found a new planet for you. They have destroyed our ships and closed our portals. It is a planet in rebellion.I will chime in to say, I recall the attempt to get said "juror killer guy" on the list and his relationship with his mistress was quite thoroughly discussed and deemed mitigating, unless something was missed in the last talk I can't advocate for him being redone without that addressed. Ravok was quite elaborate on the issue.
@ACW At the moment I'm not sure. There's like 2 villains I want to do but I'm not sure if they're bad enough.
So the bad guys I wanna do but ain't too sure on are
I had the main antagonist of the Miss Fury story in mind who murders multiple people, most of them are thugs but she only did for the drug money, tried to murder a young girl for not taking her drugs, and only committing these murders as a way to incriminate the real Miss Fury/Black Fury as revenge for stopping her for trying to murder a child. She also castrates another drug lord for trying to cross her too. But her line gives me pause and Even Evil Has Standards vibe, as when one thug mention he'll beat her which would save his wife the beatings (which implied he's a Domestic Abuser), she said she should castrate him but instead she'll just kill him which she does. So I decided not to do her.
Whether or not they are bad enough, I guess that's up to y'all, I kinda want some thoughts on them if they have enough for them to count or not.
EDIT: Make that 3 villains I wanna do, there's this one Nazi from the Rocket Ranger comics I was thinking about (Rocket Ranger appears in the Man of War spin off comic with his mantle passed onto his son... grandson?? Idk).
Stay safe!
