Having victory snatched at the last moment.

Ancient Domains Of Mystery, D:50. Attempted to do Wands of Destruction ending (by destroying the levers that toggled the Chaos Gate after closing the gate). Accidentally destroyed one lever while the gate was open. Game becomes Unwinnable, as I didn't save Khelavaster (no chance for Ultra end).

Thankfully, I had a backed up copy of the game.

I remember playing Mario Strikers Charged Football about two years ago. It was the final match of the last cup against the computer. I was behind with 2-1. In the last 30 seconds, I was finally able to score, resulting in a sudden death. This sudden death actually took longer then the whole match before it. After a heroic battle, I lost because the opposing Boo somehow managed to score by shooting a completely uncharged ball from the middle line.

I believe that my reaction towards this went something along the lines of this (spoilered for profanities): "AAAARGH! (throws controller) SHIT, KUT, GODVER, KANKER, KOLERAAAAAHH!"

I was not amused.

On Dracula in IWBTG, I've died many times in the split second after I've killed him and before the purple things go away.

Well, not on my side, but once when I was playing TF 2, it was me and one guy (I was playing Demoman, he was playing Scout), and the enemy was a Heavy player and an Engie bot. I had capped one point, and we were having difficulty with the second due to the Heavy player continuously dakkaing us to death (though amusingly, twice I killed him from beyond the grave because he didn't realize that there were still a couple grenades behind him).

Thanks to the death from beyond the grave kills, we were able to cap that last point (we were running on overtime) and then, thanks to the time boost, we were able to rush the last point and cap it for ourselves! That was an epic comeback, and I'm sure it counts as a last moment failure for the Heavy guy.

Not so much victory but in Red Dead Redemption I'd just captured a particularly annoying guy. As I was putting him on my horse to bring him in for the bounty, BAM! cougar'd

Just fought Vanitas with Ven, the second last fight. He was pretty much one hit away from dying, and had been easy throughout the fight. I must have gotten pretty lazy, because I got destroyed.

Damn you, Xaldin! Damn you to hell!

Back when I first got KH 2, this guy absolutely slaughtered me, on NORMAL no less. It took me something like 10 tries to beat him, and I'd been slicing through this game in no time at all. Luckily, I know to level up Master form to get Air Dodge to beat the crap out of him in no time at all now.

Also, do Superbosses count? If they do, ooooh boy, the Mysterious Figure. Level 80 Ven, because I kept getting my ass kicked at Level 55 (which I beat the other Superboss at). I am dead serious, you need to CONSTANTLY Dodge Roll/Cartwheel/Slide to survive. Since Ven's very much a Fragile Speedster, most attacks take him down to one-HP with one hit, and his normal combo goes on for about 10 seconds! Also, near victory in this case is about 2 bars left of his 5. Lucky for me, my finger grew a mind of its own and did nothing but dodge one time, and I was able to beat the bastard after 30+ tries, about 10 of which involved me getting him down to about 2 or so bars (when is when he starts using meteor, Megaflare and spams Doom like there's no tomorrow, sometimes twice in a row.

Also from the save game, we have Wheel Master and Braig from Terra's story. Gigantic pains in the butt, since Wheel Master gets this unblockable, undodgeable charge attack at low health and you're still at a low level with low-level attacks at this point, and Braig because Terra can only block from the front which is useless against Braig's 'run around in a circle shooting' attacks. Terra's campaign is HARD, which is funny because the rest of the game, minus the first fight against Vanitas with Ven, was a total cakewalk.

Remember that Star Craft 2 mission where you have to kill a certain amount of enemies before dying, yourself? I can't remember the exact number, so lets just assume 500.

When my last unit died in that mission, my kill count was 499. FFFFFFFFFFF—-

World in Conflict is full of both the good and bad varieties, especially in the Domination mode. One memorable match was on the Seaside map. The US team was pretty much guaranteed to win within the minute because they had captured all of the control points, and even the tense "victory timer music" was starting to play. However, they got cocky and decided to send all of their units in the center of the town in an attempt to have an epic last-minute showdown.

Unfortunately for them, one of the members on the USSR team happened to have enough CP to call in THREE carpet bombing runs... which he did. Pretty much nailed every idiot at the town square. He also made a mad dash for the control points with some jeeps and APCs, and got to them just a few mere seconds before the timer had counted to zero; only one he didn't touch was the town square CP for obvious reasons.

As a result, the countdown stopped cold, and the match went on for about another 10 minutes until the timer reached zero. By the time that was finished, the town ended up getting nuked off the map when a US player launched a tactical nuke on the other end of the town near the TV station. Unfortunately because of that nuke, we ended up losing due to the large amount of points the US side got from that final attack...

Most recently, I got 29 points in Jimmy T's level in Warioware DIY, leaving me one point shy of the record.

This happened a lot to me on Super Mario Galaxy getting purple coins last night. I got angry and stopped playing. I did a lot better today.

But still, fuck that inescapable pit in Melty Molten galaxy.
