...Isn't A Sorcerer, A Demon, and Emeralds a really, really bad fanfic?

...*checks*

...Yup, it's on that page.

Sorry, I don't think this discussion can be taken seriously anymore.

I take the statement abut the fanfic back.

I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2D

Look at it this way. Most horrible fanfics can be parodied. A Sorceror Demon and Emeralds was the fanfic so bad, it broke the brains of the people trying to parody it.

That does bring to mind the hilarious idea of implementing it into a game however. What would the minigames be like?

EDIT: Why do hilariously bad ideas appeal to me so?

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.

I honestly can't tell if the OP is trolling or just really really clueless. That's on the same level as asking Alix Henriol to write the script for the next game.

At this point miru, you kind of lost your credibility.

He did withdraw the comment. And lets avoid the Ad Hominem attacks. If he's a troll, you're feeding him. If not, you're insulting him. Keep it to arguments.

Okay so ignoring that fanfiction comment, how dark should Sonic be?

I haven't played the games since heroes so I can't really judge this well. You need a broad range for Sonic. We could use a new cartoon or comic series I think. Adventures set the best tone for the games I think, but I haven't played Shadow or seen a playthrough, so the darkest incarnation of Sonic could be the best for all I know. Unleashed seems to have recieved critical acclaim and seemed quite dark from the very little I know, but Sonic colours, which seems extraordinarily tongue in cheek, looks awesome too.

Sonic is something which has a wide range; the success of both AOSTH and Sat AM proved that. It is therefore dependent on the writer. But you will always, as a result, attract a different following for each tone and setting. You will have to put up with your Broken Base, SEGA.

^^ Not as funny as "jokes implemented". Never have jokes sounded so cynical.

I don't think "Dark" vs. "Light" really matters that much. I'm of the philosophy that it's not what you do, but how well you do it that matters. A really crappy dark Sonic story isn't fundamentally any better or worse than a really crappy light Sonic story.

I really enjoyed the Sonic Adventure Series. SA 2 is about as dark as the series should get, in my opinion. After that, it stops feeling like a Sonic game to me.

I really like the atmosphere and visual style of Sonic Heroes. It felt very much like the 16-bit Sonic games to me (gameplay, on the other hand...) Personally, keeping the story lighthearted until the climax usually seems to work, as long as one can avoid Mood Whiplash (Super Mario Galaxy avoided it very well).

Galaxy also made most of the heavy stuff optional with the storybook.
