I do think that the Foe Yay between the two is very much deliberate on the author's part, especially with the lampshading and everything.

Going from some translated bits of interviews and twitter Narita intended it to be a straight-up antagonistic relationship and was surprised at just how hard fans latched onto the Foe Yay thing (hence why the first Shizaya lampshade isn't hung until the second volume).

As for his official stance on the pairing, it is basically "I can't exactly complain when I ship Harumi/Chiri, so go ahead with the porn, kids — Just don't expect an official couple."

Oh, I don't have any problem with Kono-Setsu, although I personally prefer Setsuna with Asuna. My only tiny beef with it is it just takes too much of the fanworks while leaving little room for everything else, but that's hardly the canon's fault.

Hence why this thread is about fanbases, not the work itself. I agree; it have nothing against Kono Setsu, but from the way the main fandom is you'd think that there aren't any other pairings in the series.

Also, why would you hate Negi/Yue shippers? It's been made explicit that Yue DOES have a crush on Negi, so it's not entirely implausible.

If I remember correctly, it's because Yue is Zeether's Waifu.wink

In general, shipping doesn't bug me unless it's the militant "OMG HOW CAN YOU ACCEPT ANY OTHER SHIP?" kind of thing, and as far as that goes, Negima's fandom (at least that I know of) is pretty sedate. There isn't very much Die for Our Ship going on.

The only anime where I really take issue with the fanbase are probably Haruhi, because they won't freaking shut up about it, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was like that for a while, for the same reason (although they've mellowed a bit since).

And of course Dub vs. Sub elitists. I don't care which you prefer, just don't complain to me about it. To each his own.

Should I mention all the big three fanbases?

Especially Bleach. Oh yes.

Don't those fail the condition of "like"?

Though this is mostly a "Bitch about fandoms you don't like thread", if anything, it's the title which is misleading.

I really don't like the Negima fanbase not so much on shipping but on the fact that they hail as the the greatest thing since sliced bread. I cannot get into the manga becaus eof the characters, theya annoy me especially with the harem thing that it cannot escape out of.

Cdoe Geass fans, Lelouch is dead so deal with it.

It seems everyone can find a different fault for the Negima fandom, huh? For me, I think the Wild Mass Guessing gets a little out of hand, and fans just start throwing out every wild idea under the sun. It's kinda hard for me to give my opinions sometimes with that kind of insanity. Also, it feels like some Negima fans are really dense, 'cause I see a lot of questions asked that I can answer easily and theories proposed that I can quickly shut down.

The Ranma 1/2 fanbase is also getting on my nerves. Most of the fanfics I read seem to be taking what is basically a comedy way too seriously, and the shippers are out of their minds. That's all I really have to say about that.

Again, I say Hetalia.

Like the anime and manga, but the fandom tends to be a case study in Fan Wank and Internet Backdraft.

The DBZ fanbase sometimes. Namely any Daizex immigrant who bashes the old DBZ dub or Kai (there is one user who has a grudge against Sean Schemmel and says he is a horrible Goku)

Ugh, the DBZ otakus. I cannot take anyone seriously who thinks that Sean's Goku is less appropriate for the character than Masko Nozawa. Schemmel, to me, has been the best Goku for awhile now. And Kai is awesome, it's dub is even awesomer, and the old dub had it's good points. I can appreaciate almost anything Dragon Ball, really. There's no need to be a purist and treat it all like Serious Business.

Would also like to mention the Code Geass fandom. STOP STUFFING LELOUCH INTO THOSE LEATHER PANTS AND PASSING HIM OFF AS A MESSIAH, DAMNIT! waii

^ Well Nozawa probably tried to make him sound adult but the end result turned out to be really, really grating. She was perfect for Kid Goku, Gohan, and Goten but they really should've stuck with recasting Goku when he grew up.

Haruhi Suzumiya. Sure, it's a decent series, but the fact that it's so played up on this very wiki gives me an extreme case of Hype Backlash.

The fact that we currently have two active threads about it on the Anime subforum doesn't help matters.

^^Yes. Sean Schemmel's Goku is WIN.

He nails the childlike innocence as well as the fighting kiais. Plus it's fun to hear Sean talk to himself as King Kai.

@Over Master?!: That clip reminded me of how I disliked the Japanese music used for the Super Saiyan transformation. It's a special, epic, legendary event and they're playing music that we've heard several times before!

The Nanoha fandom seems to annoy me alot especilly with that While Devil crap and that notorious Defeat Means Friendship stuff. It just annoys that the so called 'villains' are nothing more than cannon fodder that need to be 'saved' by Nanoha and it has caused so much Hype Backlash for me that I cannot take this show seriously anymore. I hate that trope even being mentioned and it makes me want to see it taken down a lot.

Indeed, while some of the changes to the soundtrack in the American dub were questionable, the Super Saiyan transformation theme (specially the one used for SS 3) was not one of them.

That's the show, not the fandom.

Also, the manga subverts it.

Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.
