Characters/MobileSuitGundamSEED : merging project

Merging all characters entries from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom appearing in multiple works in one single entry. This will probably resulting in making one big menu for the entire Cosmic Era Universe of Gundam (like the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 page).

I propose an alternate distribution to cover all main works, like this :

• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Main Characters (For Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, Lacus Clyne, Cagalli Yula Athha). Separating the main characters from the rest will make the factions pages more clear and they tend to have bigger entries too and most of them don't have a definitive allegiance during the series, especially Kira, Athrun and Lacus.
  • Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Main Characters (For Shinn Asuka, Lunamaria Hawke and Rey Za Burrel)
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Three Ship Alliance Terminal Compass (will also include the Archangel Crew making them separate from the rest of the factions, given that they change alliegiance a lot, Heliopolis characters other than Kira can go in that folder since they did join the Archangel)
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Earth Alliance (this will include Blue Cosmos and Logos)
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Zaft
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Orb Union
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED The Foundation (since it is already done for Gundam SEED Freedom, I'd say keep it)
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Other Characters And Factions (any other minor factions and unaffiliated characters)

Excluding the main characters and the Archangel Crew, they can be sorted by first allegiance. For example: both Lunamaria and Meyrin Hawke will be in the ZAFT folder and their latest allegiance will be marked too (Compass for Lunamaria and Terminal for Meyrin).

And from that, I think the spin-offs works can be merged too. But starting with the main works first.

Overall very in favor of this. The redundancy and weirdness about the SEED entries has been a thorn in my side for a while.

That said, I wonder if we should do something like the MCU and make it Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam Cosmic Era and then each works' character page (e.g. Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny) would have a quick list of what character pages have characters from the show and which characters are where.

Character pages would then be something like Characters.Gundam Cosmic Era Orb Union or some such.

Now, unlike the MCU or Star Wars, I'm pretty sure almost every Cosmic Era work does have the SEED subtitle (which... now that I think of it, is absolutely bonkers considering how random SEED already is for a subtitle for the main series) so I could easily be talked out of my suggestion, but I wanted to throw it out there.

So, just want to flag some characters that may be tougher to place:

• Mwu/Neo: Entry for Mwu in Archangel and a separate entry for Neo under Alliance?
• Natarle: Alliance or Archangel? I lean towards Alliance with a reference in Archangel
• Andrew Waltfield? I know you said "first allegiance," but he spends like, four episodes as a ZAFT soldier and then a series and a half as a Terminal Captain.

Actually, that reminds me.

Instead of Archangel Crew, maybe we should have Three Ships Alliance/Terminal/Compass to catch such characters (and "Crew of the Archangel" being a subheading)? It would solve the Compass problem.

• Listing the characters by work for each respective page, can be good too like the Star Wars pages. I approuve this idea but I think this can be done after the reorganisation work.
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Orb Union or Gundam Cosmic Era Orb Union : yeah but I think this is more of a detail for the moment. But since every other pages go from the copyright name instead of the universe name (taking a Gundam 00 example, it is Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Gundam Meisters and not Gundam Anno Domini Gundam Meisters for example). More of a minor detail if you ask me but I'd go with Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Orb Union.
• The Three Ships Alliance/Terminal/Compass subfaction is a good idea, this will help filling the folder if we put the Archangel Crew here. But this will create an issue with Flay Allster (since she didn't join the Three Ships Alliance) and for her, I think either into the Alliance folder or the Other Characters folder, leaning more into the former.
• For your flagged characters, I have said 'first allegiance' (I mean by that first faction they appear into), it's true, but it is a proposition so subject to change and anyone can disagree with me, it is why I created this topic first before starting the project (in sandboxes first):
  • Mwu/Neo: For him, I'd say yes, separate entries at first (Mu in Archangel, Neo in Alliance) with a spoiler reference to his Archangel entry. But in my opinion, his SEED and Freedom entries must be merged into his Archangel entry. If this proves troublesome, maybe a separate character page but this solution bothers me as he is not a main character.
  • Natarle: Agreed with the Alliance entry with a reference to Archangel, since she serves the Earth Alliance during the whole show and she didn't change her allegiance till her death.
  • Andrew Waltfield: Yeah, tough one. While he still serves ZAFT when he first appears, it is indeed not for long as he quickly switches to Three Ships Alliance/Terminal. I lean toward a Three Ships Alliance entry with a reference in the ZAFT folder.

I have started merging main characters entries : Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Main Characters

• Kira Yamato : mostly done by combining each entries without really much reading. Needs proofreading, formatting, checking pictures used (I didn't change them for now but using official profile pictures would be nice if I find them) and probably more. Some examples added and rewritten.
• Athrun Zala : added. Done in the same way as Kira's entry.
• Cagalli Yula Athha : added. Done in the same way as Kira's and Athrun's entry.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Main Characters is mostly done: feel free to edit/correct/add/remove any tropes (un)necessary. I am also open to feedback.

Legit question: Is Lunamaria Hawke considered a main character to be put with the five others ? If not, I will put her in the ZAFT folder.

If you mean by the spoiler tags for the Main Mechas, since the movie is still relatively new, I don't think it is a good idea to remove them yet.

• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Three Ship Alliance Terminal Compass : has only the Archangel Crew from SEED for now. Will edit/complete with Compass and other members later
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Earth Alliance : merging entries from SEED, SEED Destiny and SEED Freedom is done. First edits are also done too. I am reconsidering about what to do with Neo folder but I finally lean to merge it with the Mu entry in the Archangel crew section but with a separator for distinct tropes. The General tropes needs to be edited too since there are only SEED Destiny's entries.

Also, should we consider moving the story trope entries in the character pages to the main work pages or the recap pages, as well as removing any potential complaining where necessary?

I don't see any objections to this but I don't clearly see what is a "story trope" compared to a "character trope" for example. (This is the first project I initiate here so forgive my inexperience.)

Also, Shinn folder on the main characters page feels very bloated, I think it could use a review.

Moved Natarle to the Earth Alliance folder. SEED Destiny entries not there yet. Merged Murrue and Mu (including Neo), Arnold, Miriallia entries. Edited Heliopolis character sheets.

The Main Characters sandbox page now has a "very long" note.

The Foundation character page currently has just 26,013 bytes of the 40,000 needed to justify being a separate page. Adding Agnes Giebenrath would bump it to 36,394 which seems adequate given more will be added as it gets a wider release.

Relating, The Foundation page might warrant being Spoilers Off given at least half of the tropes are spoiled out (especially the two main villains) and the trailers don't even try to hid the "twist" they're the bad guys.

Also, there's the characters of Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam SEEDCE 73 Stargazer (split them between the Earth Alliance and Other) and Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray (mostly other unless being Expanded Universe warrants a separate page).

~gjjones I have checked the byte count for each character in the main page with that site https://mothereff.in/byte-counter :

• Kira Yamato : 56,977 bytes
• Athrun Zala : 54,401 bytes
• Lacus Clyne : 51,167 bytes
• Cagalli Yula Athha : 37,059 bytes
• Shinn Asuka : 75,620 bytes (!!!), I have trimmed down to 69,852 bytes but can still be better.

At first sight, Shinn's folder need to be trimmed down quite a bit (the others too but his one is more bloated that the others), there is a lot of text in it and I am sure that could be summarised. As for the long term tho, I think splitting the page in two with the SEED characters in one and the SEED Destiny in the other is a good idea, with that I am tempted to add Lunamaria Hawke and Rey Za Burrel in the SEED Destiny main characters page too.

~Ferot_Dreadnaught Kind of agree for the Foundation Page for both of the size and moving Agnes in it. As for the spoilers, not so sure about that. I think we can remove the ones concerning their true nature but not the ones concerning moments of the movie yet.

As for the characters in the side works, my initial idea is to also put them in the new factions pages too but after the rest of the merge/rearrangement of the main works pages is done. And as suggested earlier, when all is done and modified to be definitive pages, the character pages of each work will list them where to look at, like for the Star Wars pages for example (a listing like this for example: A New Hope).

• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Main Characters created and moved Shinn's folder in it. Added Lunamaria Hawke (merged her SEED Destiny and her SEED Freedom folders) and Rey Za Burrel in it.

Given the byte sizes of most main characters, maybe it will result in Character specific pages (40 000 bytes minumum I think) but that will be a discussion when the merges are finished.

I have also found this: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Kira Yamato but it seems abandonned (not edited since 4 weeks). I don't like the separation between works personally and that bloats the page with multiples duplicates tropes (and this is the point of this project, merging all folders of each character into one single folder).

• Created Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Zaft : is mostly the SEED Page merged with the Destiny page.
  • Done: merged Ezalia's entries from SEED and SEED Freedom, Durandal's entries from SEED Destiny and SEED Freedom. SEED Freedom's ZAFT Characters added. Yzak's, Dearka's, Shiho's, Meyrin's, Arthur's folders merged. Spoilers tags from SEED and SEED Destiny removed. Rau's folders merged
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Three Ship Alliance Terminal Compass : added Andrew Waltfeld (merged too), Martin DaCosta and the DOM Trooper Trio (merged too).

While I've removed the "arguable" terminology from some entries as Examples Are Not Arguable, I think we can try looking at removing some potential Word Cruft where needed.

• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Orb Union : created and merged all main work entries in it. I think other characters like Amagi (number two of Todoka who appears in both SEED Destiny and SEED Freedom ) and Soga (the Colonel who punched Yuna and was the Captain of the Kusanagi at the end of SEED Destiny) can be created here.
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Other Characters And Factions : created and probably the last folder for the franchise. Is mostly the same as Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Others for now (minus the removed spoiler tags). It will serve as the basis to integrate the other factions from the side works.

~gjjones Yeah Each page, especially the main characters ones, needs to be checked before being used to replace all the current pages.

• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED CE.73: Stargazer added to both Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Other Characters And Factions and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Earth Alliance.
• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray characters added to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Other Characters And Factions, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Earth Alliance, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Zaft, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Orb Union : largely pasted there without much edits (I don't really know the side works) so feedback/editing is welcomed

And with that, all Cosmic Era characters are grouped in common pages. All edits, feedbacks, polishing are welcome before the final replacement of the actual characters' pages.

• Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Orb Union : is relatively small (with only 30,318 characters) but if the Gundam SEED Eclipse page will be created, its characters from the Orb Disaster Relief Team can be added there in the future.

I see a lot of editings on the current character pages, I tried to put them all in the sandboxes pages but keeping track of all of them is not easy ...

I think replacing the current pages by the new ones the sooner, the better for limiting those edits, but not without feedback on the sandboxes first.

Also, how do we proceed to replace them ? And also how to delete the old useless pages ? Do we need an admin/moderator approval for that ?

I asked ATT for feedback and approval. I agree/hope we should get this done sooner to not lose recent updates to the existing pages.

To replace the existing pages, replace them with [[redirect:Characters/MobileSuitGundamSEED]], which will take them to the page where the new character pages will be put.
