Per crowner
, Laconic/ pages for certain namespaces are no longer allowed, specifically:
- Characters/
- Indexes (Main/)
- Creators (Creator/)
- Administrivia/
- Recap/
A list of Laconic/ pages with matching names to pages at affected namespaces is here: Sandbox.Liminal Laconics List.
Almost all of these are to be cut, though note that a few could have been applied to trope or work pages with the same name and thus don't have to be cut.
The crowner decided to keep Laconics for Useful Notes except for "certain" categories, which are still under discussion.

Following up on this ATT report, there seems to be a bit of confusion concerning where having a laconic is appropriate.
I was under the impression that only trope pages had them, but apparently some works pages have and the ATT report linked above has them on Useful Notes pages.
So should we limit them only to certain pages, or allow them as long as they aren't breaking rules?

On the other hand the presence of a laconic also serves as an immediate tell that these are not normal tropers pages.

I know this topic had stalled after the first crowner, but I'm wondering what to do about the Useful Notes case-by-case basis, because the push for Platform/ and other such alternatives may very well affect actions here. In that case I'd be inclined to vote down anything that remains in UsefulNotes/

I've gone through all the entries on Sandbox.Liminal Laconics List and cutlisted all the ones for disallowed categories. Do we still need the sandbox now?

The sandbox's role is complete. All we have left is the character page Laconics, which are just an "if you see one around, cutlist it" thing because there's no easy way to search for them.

Should pages in the Platform/ namespace have laconics? Like for example, Laconic.Nintendo Entertainment System?

There is to be a clarification on what Useful Notes to approve of, but by now it's been stalled, and it did not factor in the existence of the Platform/ namespace. Honestly, my thoughts on this is like before: With Platform/, there really isn't a practical reason to allow laconics for Useful Notes anymore.

I suppose allow tropers to add topics under Useful Notes.

I tried to cutlist Laconic.Spooky Kids Media, since Laconics for indexes aren’t allowed, but the request seems to have been declined.

Hmm. I suppose its on the border of trope and index. Its page type is “trope”, but listed works are indexed there (as I believe they should be). Is that off-topic for this thread?

Out of the two I'd rather Tropers pages to not have laconics, even jokey ones. Laconics act as summaries, but everything someone needs to know about system tropers is already briefly explained at their pages.
