"Is this subpage too short?": Re-merging Project

A recurring question: When is it long enough to split off a subpage?

While answers vary^note You should definitely split off if the page gets too long. If not, it's some combination of the length of each example, the number of examples, the time it takes for you to scroll through it, and if the remaining content on the page is long enough to stand on its own, we can usually tell when a subpage is not long enough. Bring any candidates here and we can discuss whether or not they were properly split off and agree on whether or not to merge them back.

Jeez, four Wall of Text should not mean "new subpage", it should mean "cut those entries down". Are you able to trim them before merging back?

Yes, it might be tomorrow by the time I get done, but I know the show well enough to trim them down to reasonable length.

Franchisization - move back to their YMMV pages. I'm OK with the page existing to link to other Ensemble Dark Horse subpages. Titans and Harry Potter subpages are too short to remain subpages, IMO — less than a screen on my browser.

If all of a subpage's examples fit in a desktop window without you even having to scroll, I feel like they should be nuked on sight. So all three of those should get merged back.

Recently as described in these two ATT threads, one user unilaterally split off a bunch of entries from across the various Xenoblade Chronicles YMMV pages^note Xenoblade Chronicles 1, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2; since then I've also made Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country but its entries were shared with 2's into general franchise pages^note Alternative Character Interpretation, Awesome Bosses, Base-Breaking Character, Scrappy Mechanic, That One Achievement, That One Attack, That One Boss, That One Level, That One Sidequest, Tier-Induced Scrappy, supposedly in the name of the previous pages being too long. Problem is, as can be seen on the ATT threads linked above, most of us agree that the migration was probably unnecessary and should've been done with consultation first, but we're not sure if it's enough consensus to undo the migrations outright.

I've already migrated all the entries left on the YMMV page that pertain specifically to Torna to its own dedicated YMMV page on the basis of it being a DLC that can be regarded as a separate game altogether, and what's left has been alphabetically folderized, increasing readability significantly without requiring the cutting and pasting of entries to separate pages. One recurring issue that you can see with the franchise subpages and with XBC 1's YMMV page is that it generally doesn't have a ton of examples to justify an urgent split as opposed to making XBC 2-specific subpages, and thus the XBC 1 section for each of the above subpages is essentially a stub.

Not quite. It's a Thematic Series, and XBC 1 and XBC 2 explicitly take place in different dimensions which branched off from the Distant Future of our world, though they converge in the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

In my opinion, it's fine to have franchise pages for Tier Induced Scrappy and Scrappy Mechanic because the sections for X and 2 are both quite long, and while XBC 1's section is unsurprisingly much shorter, it's at least long enough to not be a stub either. But for examples where one game's section is very long but the other two are negligible (such as Alternative Character Interpretation), it's better to just make a work-specific subpage.

If the page has a situation where two games' folders are long but one isn't, I'm guessing it would be best to make two separate work-specific subpages and migrate the short one back to its host YMMV page?

Individual thoughts, prefaced with how I think that if something is long enough to put away, it should be to its own work-specific subpage and not a franchise one. That way the autotabbing at the top still points somewhere that makes sense. The point of subpages is less to show how something recurs across a franchise and more for organizational purposes regarding the individual works. (None of these subpages link back to their parent works, which...grrr)

• Punt back to individual work YMMV:
  • AlternativeCharacterInterpretation.Xenoblade Chronicles: Three each can easily be kept on the individual work pages.
  • AwesomeBosses.Xenoblade Chronicles (looks long enough but each entry is a paragraph). Split back and trim.
  • ThatOneAchievement.Xenoblade Chronicles: Pointless, easy move back.
  • ThatOneLevel.Xenoblade Chronicles: Paragraphs again. Trim and move back to individual YMMV

• Move to work-specific subpages (shorter sectionsmoved back to YMMV):
  • ScrappyMechanic.Xenoblade Chronicles
  • ThatOneAttack.Xenoblade Chronicles
  • ThatOneBoss.Xenoblade Chronicles: Probably has a "right to exist" but again I'd rather see these on the individual works.
  • ThatOneSidequest.Xenoblade Chronicles

Will hold off on TierInducedScrappy.Xenoblade Chronicles since there's a recent TRS resolution.

In case further voices are needed for a consensus, I'll add my support to Synchronicity's assessment of the various subpages. Move the entries on Alternative Character Interpretation, Awesome Bosses, and That One Level back to the individual YMMV pages (I see the page for That One Achievement is already gone) and cross-wick to the relevant trope pages (if this hasn't been done already); create subpages for individual games in the series instead of franchise-wide pages for Scrappy Mechanic, That One Attack, That One Boss, and That One Sidequest (in the case of Scrappy Mechanic and especially That One Attack, move the entries for the first game back to the YMMV page); wait and see what TRS decides about Tier Induced Scrappy.

(Speaking personally, to echo my contributions to the ATT threads AlleyOop mentions, I find the navboxes excessive whatever the final decision, but I think that's just me.)

I migrated nearly everything back with the exception of the Tier Induced Scrappy page, sequestering X's That One Sidequest to its own page, and 2's That One Attack and That One Sidequest to their own pages. Everything that belonged to 1 has been moved back to the main YMMV page.

If other posters want, I can restore game-specific subpages without the text trimmed, in case people think the additional details really are that useful.

Characters.Sengoku Basara has a thing where most of the subpages feel too short, but merging them back into the main character page would make that page too long. I don't know if there is a good way to merge the pages together in a comprehensive manner.

Ravirn has "Fridge" and "Funny" pages that seem way too short to have been split off of the YMMV page...

What are the various clans' relationship to each other/the player(s)? Might it make more sense to arrange by debut game?

Have the now-redundant subpages been cutlisted? If not, should they be?

The Fridge/ page should probably be merged back into the YMMV page since it just has the one entry; the Funny/ page... perhaps it's just how the entries are formatted, but it reads like two page quotes and a single entry. I presume it's actually supposed to be three entries? At the very least, the two entries that read like page quotes need to be re-written as actual examples; not knowing anything about the source material, I'm not sure how to give them proper context.

Merge Fridge with YMMV. Per policy, the Funny page is to be left alone.

Some subpages I feel as if might be a bit too short.

Memes/Thor: Love And Thunder- The film isn't even out yet and in comparison to other MCU meme pages, this has far too little examples

Memes/Teen Titans (2003)- Too little examples to have its own IMO

Memes/Full House- Same as above

CallForward/X-Men First Class- Feel like this could be moved back to the main page for that film

FranchiseOriginalSin/American Idol- Only three really long examples are listed in the page

Of those, Memes.Full House and Memes.Teen Titans 2003 can definitely be migrated back (the latter has unexplained memes which I suppose counts as ZCE). So can CallForward.X Men First Class.

I think Memes.Thor Love And Thunder has juuuuust enough.

I don't think it has enough entries to be split off so I'd be fine with merging it back to Glass Cannon.

VoodooShark.Yu Gi Oh has three examples, which while each a paragraph long, are not.long enough in themselves (even combined) to warrant their own page. I am pretty sure they can be merged back into the VoodooShark.Anime And Manga page without issue. I'd do it myself but I'm on tablet, where editing is a pain
