Not Thriving: Just Pennies A Day

This page has been around since 2009, only ever had 25 29 edits since 2011 (and at the time I wrote this summary only a pathetic one (namespace-related) since it was featured as a page needing help in last year's Trope Report; as of today, there's been a few more in the past month from the same user, but it's too little, too late), and had languished in Pages Needing Wiki Magic for quite some time (since the original page it came from had been PRLC'd, I can't tell how long it's been there). Not to mention that the examples offered are paltry, very few of which relating to works of fiction (I can only count four work links in the section), and the wicks to other pages aren't any better.

For less than the price of your daily cup of coffee, you can send this starved trope to a nearby yard... assuming of course there's any hope.

tbh I'm not sure how much it's different from Four Equal Payments of besides the amount of splits. Actually, the two concepts could probably be merged, and it would help Four Equal Payments of's 20 wicks as well (it also needs description trimming).

Lol hi that user was me, whoops. I figured it had potential so I crosswicked everything into the page and pimped my one example, but making it thrive would've required scouring media that I haven't consumed. Buuut seeing as I'm not well-versed in troping matters, I'll just defer to the experts (aka you all)'s judgements!

Merge with Four Equal Payments of. We can make Denomination Effect a redirect.

On the merged page, would there be any categorization of examples? Or are they all enough the same that they can just get mixed together indiscriminately? I can take on a bunch of the JPaD editing-out once this is set to go, given how I made the future editing session worse by my last-minute wicking. Again, apologies!

Since Four Equal Payments of doesn't have any on-page examples, Just Pennies a Day's examples will just be cut and pasted over with little to no changes. Putting them in folders is something that doesn't require TRS, but since it's an advertising trope, I'd imagine the examples usually come from one medium.

I'd rather wait for the combined page (when its time for it) be drafted before seeing if the examples need a soft-split, if the idea is "tricking to spend money using multiples of a smaller sum", then categories may not be needed.

I might be sacrificing clarity for wittiness here, but what about renaming the merged article Div-hide the Cost? A quirk of pronunciation turns "divide" into "hide", which is what the advertisement does by breaking it into a payment plan or pretending it's a payment plan.

Actually, hmm, this is a payment plan in all cases, technically? Dividing a big cost into smaller bits...

Is this all "Amortization"? Is it special that it's advertising so Amortization Ad?

Do we even need a new name, or can't we just merge them under the name of the trope that's doing okay?

Oh, I misunderstood - I thought Four Easy Payments Of was doing okay for an advertising trope, and is also the most intuitive name. Denomination Effect seems like the best alternative.

I'm okay with just merging, I'm not sure a rename is necessary, but I wouldn't oppose one either.

TBH, I find the trope name Four Equal Payments of to be even less clear than Just Pennies a Day, so if both pages are doing equally badly, and we're not doing a rename, it'd be better to merge the former into the latter than the other way around.

ETA: FWIW, Just Pennies a Day has a higher inbound count (2665) than Four Equal Payments of (989)

Over two thousand inbounds? Let's keep the name. I'm still open to voting on additional redirects, but I didn't check inbounds earlier. That's supremely healthy, especially in comparison to the wicks.

If we merge one into the other, I was already planning to keep both names around with one being a redirect, so no need to worry about inbounds being lost.
