The book should have no bearing on this, since the film is an adaptation and things can change in adaptation.
I cast my vote for he/him pronouns. As-is, the average viewer would reasonably assume Toaster is male because the film uses he/him pronouns. The ambiguity only comes from conflicting meta information.

Ask The Tropers thread, there is a disagreement on what pronouns we should use for the titular character in The Brave Little Toaster due to their Ambiguous Gender, so I was told to make a crowner in this forum for it.
Some people want to use male pronouns, since the movie refers to Toaster as male. (Lampy shouts "He sank!" at one point.) Some people want to use female pronouns, since the director referred to Toaster as female in a Reddit AMA, as did Toaster's voice actress. (This was listed under Writer Conflicts with Canon in Trivia.) Some people want to use they/them, and others just want to refer to Toaster as an it due to them being an Animate Inanimate Object (plus it was a plot point in the original novel that Toaster had no gender).
So, let's go over our options suggested in the ATT thread...
1: Use he/him
2: Use she/her
3: Use "it"
4: Use they/them
5: Alternate between pronouns
