NukeliThe Master Of Fright & A Demon Of Light
from A Dark Planet Lit By No Sun
Since: Aug, 2018Relationship Status: Showing feelings of an almost human nature
My story's supposed to run through a fictionalizedversion of the 20th centurynote (except that it's about thirty or forty years short of a century so that it'll fit into the viewpoint character's lifetime and to keep the more distant global storyline clearer).
Elements include communism with a different name, ecofascism and the "original" kind of fascism, the idea of "overpopulation" being bullshit, Zeppelins from Another World, Science Is Good (when it isn't racist "science"), speciesism, classism, exploration of how normal people become radicalized, environmentalism, antifascism, anticommunism, antilibertarianism, anti-monarchism, anti-anarchism, a world war and a small country's civil war, addiction, child abuse, and Internalized Categorism.
Clock Punk would go first (i don't know anything that could go before it), be the thing for literal centuries, and has been passed by Steampunk before the protagonist's birth. A few characters who were alive during the clock age lament the smog and noise of the steam and diesel ages, while "modern-day" characters can't stand the ticking. Clock technology is still around somewhat and relied upon when there's no fuel.
Steampunk has been in the vogue for a few decades following the industrial revolution when the protagonists are born. In the cities everything is dirty, steam and smog are everywhere, classism is still rampant, and the people are pissed, giving rise to environmentalism and revolutionary social movements.
Solar Punk (minus anarchism. And plus some windpower maybe, or is that it's own punk?) is implied but not confirmed for a more hopeful but still distant future that would, after all the struggle, death, and ideological conflicts, [[Author Tract give rise to a society resembling a modern Scandinavian welfare state where minorities have equal rights and everybody has food on the table. A scientist's ideas about the sun are repeatedly referenced to through the story, and near the end she finally builds a solar panel that works.
So, how should i go about justifying this all in a technological timeline? Should something come in between Diesel Punk and Solar Punk? (The fifties did have an atom craze, but that'd carry the implication of everybody getting cancer.)
