Should "Sincerity Mode" be made Administriva?

I find it strange that Sincerity Mode, a term used in forum communication, is placed in the main namespace. It came to my attention today when I saw it used in a work's example list describing a scene where a character drops all pretense and talks frankly to their rival. Is this allowed? If not, we should better move it to prevent misuse.

There is also Sarcasm Mode and Humour Mode; all three are part of the Fora index.

I kinda want to know whether we have an equivalent of Sincerity Mode as a trope, though.

No, moving it to Administrivia would just make it more difficult to use.

Just cut it whenever you see in an example list, because it's not a trope.

Don't think so? There are a lot of trope examples, so maybe the -Mode things can be made into tropes, the sort that are pothole magnets but nevertheless tropes.

Tropes H to P

  • Chris allows Katie to reunite with Sadie in "Who Can You Trust?". Also, when Harold eliminates himself in "Super Happy Crazy Fun Time Japan", Chris wishes him luck without a hint of sarcasm.

Bum Reviews

  • Sincerity Mode: Doug breaks character a few times during his The Avengers review to assert that no, really, it is a great movie, and that whoever's watching the review should go see it now.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

  • Sincerity Mode: Roger's apologetic tone when explaining the Rule of Funny suggests that he's not just trolling, and isn't any more pleased than Eddie is about how he couldn't slip out of the cuffs any sooner.

Live-Action TV

  • In another episode, Bartlet learns that his daughter Ellie, who seemed to be manipulating him by appearing to express confidence in him, was simply, honestly, expressing confidence in him. He just says, "My God, King Lear is a good play" (in that play, the daughter Lear thinks is the least loyal is the most).

I think it's inevitable that when we have something in the Main namespace, people will link to it as a trope. I can't think of any reasonable way to prevent this short of a massive coding change. Now, we can clean those up, but it'll be a constant rearguard action.

[up] Moving to administrivia would discourage that. There's the line "In some instances, this can even be a trope in a work, when a character is usually sarcastic or snarky, but then they get moments where they mean what they say." and a laconic, further confusing if this is a forum thing only.

[up][up][up] IMO, in order to apply the idea of Sincerity Mode to a work, a character must explicitly state that they mean what they say as they feel it could be misunderstood due to either their history of being sarcastic or the ambiguous context it's being said in. Like the verbal inversion of Air Quotes.

The example I was referring to in OP doesn't fit this criterion:

  • After spending much of her time simply taking jabs at others or trying to rally a following, Stormfront explains her motivations to Homelander when he confronts her at Vought's building. However, he only made her stop acting dickish with a threat of killing her right there and now.

These "X Mode" tropes belong in the wider category of website tropes that are often a source of issues. For one thing, they often straddle the line with audience reactions and Real Life examples since they tend to trope websites' user bases. For the other thing, they were launched back in the day when trope examples weren't expected or necessary and there is thus often confusion about their exact scope.

They are not really Administrivia things though.

Maybe block them on the wiki and make tropers only be able to use them on the forums?

[up]That's not really possible. We could cut the page which would cause pot- and sinkholes to become redlinks, helping remove them and hopefully getting the message across in the long run not to put these in wiki pages, but I'd rather it not be redlinked in the forums. A blue link combined with word choice is often enough to tell that the blue link is "Sincerity Mode" without needing a mouseover. It becoming red would make it harder to distinguish from the fake "modes" people use for humor.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't mind getting rid of those "forum pothole tags". It's possible to indicate that you're sincere or sarcastic without linking to a wiki article; it's just that since it's possible, it's become something of a meme.
