Decided to help the Adult Fear thread out and whip up something for Mundanger. Will edit this post with the sandbox in a bit.

What's the protocol if a page has multiple examples of the trope, and they fit different categories of misuse?

Maybe put each example in the corresponding misuse category?

I used to make folders at the bottom for that specific purpose, where I'd then break down what each example fits. It worked better when we used color-coded comments, though.

I just put each example in the correct folder and make a note that there was another example from the same page in a different folder for each example.

That works too; I think the reason I avoided doing it for a while was that it artificially inflated the wick count. I eventually started just adding a separate "# of examples" counter.

Added another folder on the Berserk Button sandbox for 'anger not disproportionate', because I was seeing several examples of it being used for things things like 'character is angry someone broke into their house and wrecked it' or 'character is angry at being betrayed by friends'.

What I usually do for instances like that is if I see an example like this on a hypothetical Page A:

• Trope
  • Misuse type 1
  • Misuse type 2

I list it as:

• Page A (1): misuse type 1
• Page A (2): misuse type 2

in different folders according to misuse.

Okay, the one issue with moving this to long-term? It's slightly harder to find now

Anyway, gonna throw a few wicks at some things for a bit.

Finished the Idiosyncratic Difficulty Levels Wick Check and found that there wasn't as much misuse as I thought. I don't think it needs TRS, but maybe a short term cleanup thread?

Cleanup thread seems fine.

Okay, I added wicks to:

• Mundanger
• Berserk Button
• Seven Deadly Sins
• The Problem with Licensed Games
• The Girl Who Fits This Slipper
• Death By Sex

I finished Sandbox.Meganekko Wick Check with a lot of help from Orbiting. The results are as bad as I expected. Only three correct examples and I think I was a little generous with two of them.

I still think turning Meganekko into a Fanspeak page and spinning off Sweet Glasses Girl (or whatever we name it) into its own trope would be the best course of action.

Once I get Gang Of Critters resolved (or perhaps before just to get it in line) I plan to take Gender Neutral Narrator to the TRS both for Chairs and Not Thriving (23 wicks puts it just into starving).

Should I wick check it, or is that besides the point for this one?

You can, and with 23 wicks it won't take long, but you probably don't have to.

Speaking of a tiny trope, I'm gonna be checking all the wicks for Ambiguous Allegiance here.

Alright, I'm officially going to start Stock Parody Jokes Wick Check. Question though—what's a good way of measuring misuse given that this is a YMMV trope?

I'm not really sure. Maybe just try sorting it into categories as you go and see if patterns emerge.

I also still recommend checking to see if the example overlaps with an equivalent Memetic Mutation example. I know you have a "meme, not a joke" section but I think that'll provide some concrete evidence to help that point.

I can rework that section into "Memetic Mutation overlap" if needed.

Yeah, that sounds more fitting, IDK if it'd be accurate to say with certainty that Memetic Mutation would never count for SPJ. Based on your definition of a "meme", a lot of the jokes would qualify as Memetic Mutation, just not in the way people tend to mean it.

Out of curiosity, what do you think my definition of "meme" is?

(For the record, I don't really have a clear one. I was just measuring overlap in examples.)

Oh, I was using "you" in the general sense, not you specifically. I could've used a word like "one's" and would've still meant the same thing.

Nah, I was unclear. The point I was mostly making is that, using certain definitions, SPJ could be considered a subtrope of Memetic Mutation.
