Wick Check Project

So I decided to start a wick check for Humiliation Conga, because I had no idea the trope was villain-exclusive and it's widely used across the wiki for instances of nonstop humiliation even if the person receiving it isn't a villain. Even the character in the page image isn't a villain (he played one in their fantasy game but he was the only one who actually got hurt), and the character in the page quote is the protagonist. Any comments on how to organize the sandbox?

I'm debating starting a wick check for So Bad, It's Good. Over and over and over again I have seen this trope be used to complain about works on YMMV pages, and I'm wondering if it should be made Flame Bait or just not allowed on work pages due to it being a complaining magnet.

On the other hand, this trope has been around pretty much forever, is a real and very tropable concept, and would be potentially difficult to clean out wicks in the event something was decided upon. On top of that, criteria would have to be set about what is and isn't complaining, which could be tough considering how fuzzy the line is.

Do you think I should do it? Or is it not worth it?

Go for it. If nothing else it might warrant a cleanup thread.

Hmmm... Maybe something like:

• Correct Usage (Villain)
• Not A Villain
• Other Misuse
• ZCE/Misc

Once I knock out Stylistic Suck (which I probably will tonight), I want to run a wick check for Knife Nut as nobody seems to know what that trope is supposed to be about. It'll probably be more about checking usage rather than checking for misuse.

I think the Summon X example is of the "unhinged" variety. I think. Depending on the use of "nuts".

I might move it to Unclear TBH because it's poorly written and I'm not sure exactly what it's trying to say.

On second thought, don't expect to see the Asexuality wick check. Due to a completely assholish sudden revelation, I may have problems being particularly involved here (even less than I already am) for a really long time. I'm sorry.

Or who even knows. Maybe I overreacted. We'll see.

So I keep running into Knife Nut examples where the only context is "Bob likes his knives". Where do ya'll think those would fit? I'm torn between if they count as "Character really likes knives" or "ZCE".

It's too little context to tell, but I'm inclined to think the majority are a way of saying "this is Bob's weapon of choice".

Which is still low on context since it doesn't explain if the character is actually out of their mind or just prefers to use knives as a weapon.

Yes. So it's for the ZCE section. In the OP, you can say this trope attracts zero context examples.

Decided to add Ho Yay to the list of Tropes Needing Wick Checks in the Overall Project sandbox. Took a few tries to get the formatting down pat. I personally believe Ho Yay has been in need of a wick check for a while now.

Are Darth Wiki and Sugar Wiki pages permitted to be checked?

Also, when you said Why not, do you mean Why not check Ho Yay, or why not check Darth and Sugar Wiki pages?

I was saying "Why Not" to the darth/sugar question.

I mean, making the actual sandbox and doing the actual check are two very different things. One is just making folders and figuring out how many wicks you'd need.

Welp, ended up making a VERY rough draft. Goddamn. Any tips on how to straighten this mess out?

(I wasn't exaggerating when I said the pages were bloated.)

The issue is that you chose and put down all your wicks first, which is the opposite of how we normally do it here. Your way isn't bad exactly but the way we typically want to do it is to set up the sandbox first, then find the wicks, and that's usually done just by scrolling up and down the page.
