I wouldn't say so, at least not any more than Tear Jerker has a list of tropes provoking tears.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Point taken.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Made a crowner to (hopefully) speed up the decision-making process, due the size of the current TRS backlog.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. Thanks, it's hooked.
I support making the new Shocking Moments audience reaction, but I don't support making Holy Shit Quotient Just for Fun. Just for Fun has been used too much as a dumping ground for things that don't fit into other parts of the wiki. Instead, Holy Shit Quotient should be made a redirect for the new audience reaction.
Is there a way to separate these options on the crowner?
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"The thing is, HSQ, as it currently stands, is already written as a Just for Fun bit, and it's pretty much been ported from Buffyverse forums pre-TV Tropes.
There's clear value in keep the page here as it is, if only for historical reference.
That said... two questions:
- Is the name Shocking Moments acceptable?
- If Shocking Moments (or whatever it's called) gets created, should we allow on-page examples?
I say yes to both questions.

Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! My question is, would Shocking Moments (and yes, I do like that name) be in the same vein as Funny Moments or Awesome Moments? Because if it is, then I'd say no to on-page examples, as we'll end with very long lists that are just unnecessary duplicated.
If it's not going to be a new "moment" trope, then it should probably have a different name, and we need to nail down the definition a bit more. Even for an audience reaction, we can have something a bit more objective than just "literally anything that shocked you."
And I'm still worried people are going to use this as a dumping ground for Whams they don't personally like.

It would be in the vein of Funny Moments and such, but on neither Darth Wiki nor Sugar Wiki, akin to Nightmare Fuel and Tear Jerker. That said, those tropes allow on-page examples, so I don't see why Shocking Moments can't.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! Finally made a Wham cleanup thread because someone uncommented a bunch of ZCE whams due to having no idea what a ZCE even is. Not directly related to this thread, but, you know. Seemed like a good idea.
Calling in favor of JFF + Shocking Moments.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI've set up a TLP draft where we can start transplanting all the examples currently listed under HSQ.

Proposal for Main.Holy Shit Quotient replacement:
%% This has been turned into a disambiguation page per TRS action: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=1569623914090620500 A link somewhere on the Internet sent you to this page. It may refer to one of the following: * JustForFun.HolyShitQuotient: A JustForFun bit of the number of times "holy shit!" or a similar phrase is said by audiences. * ShockingMoments: Moments in works that shocked us. Please change any link to point to the correct page. ----Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!
I think we should put the replacement in ASAP to move the wick replacement game along. Also we should make the JFF page explicitly a Definition Only Page, since the way the original page was written doesn't give me the impression that it was ever meant to have any examples.
- JustForFun.Holy Shit Quotient: Solely meant to be a definition-only page for a Fan Speak term for the number of times "holy shit!" or a similar phrase is said by audiences.
- Shocking Moments: Moments in works that shocked us.
Please change any link to point to the correct page.

Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!A notice because I just realized; after Shocking Moments gets launched and we start moving everything around, we should keep an eye out for works that had their HSQs moved to a separate subpage, like HolyShitQuotient.Steven Universe, as they're going to need a move.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99ยขI removed Main.HSQ from YMMV Redirects, since it redirects to a disambiguation page.
Edit: Also, I added this comment to Main.Holy Shit Quotient so people don't remove the Shocking Moments Red Link from the list, since Main/ red links are usually discouraged:

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I've just launched Shocking Moments. The game of reorganizing the 2.5k misuse wicks to HSQ towards here can now get started.

Already got it indexed into Audience Reactions.

she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportJust as a question: Shocking Moments is a moments page, right? As such, shouldn't it be Spoilers Off?
I was also wondering how we should namespace SM subpages: is ShockingMoments/ fine, or should we go with simply Shocking/ (compare Awesome/, Funny/, Heartwarming/)?
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! It should br spoilers-off, since most shocking moments would come from such spoilery moments.
Edited by Albert3105 on Oct 21st 2019 at 1:58:07 PM
I think they should be spoilers-off. I don't have a strong opinion on the namespace, but since the other non-Sugar Wiki Moments pages (Nightmare Fuel and Tear Jerker) have namespaces that use the names as-is instead of abbreviating them, I'm leaning toward ShockingMoments/.
Maybe we should use a Page Action crowner to decide those two things. I'd imagine putting both on one crowner would be fine, since deciding whether the pages should be spoilers-off would only need one option.
Edit: Went ahead and did it.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Switched in the crowner.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportFor my non-modhat post, I agree with Spoilers Off. A lot of shocking moments are bound to have huge spoilers. Major plot twists are a common example of such shocking moments.

Crown Description:
Holy Shit Quotient is freqently misused and attracts ZCEs. What should be done with it?
I'm aware that the Wham tropes are objective. I was thinking about it being along the lines of how subtropes of one type of page can be separate types themselves, such as how Dedication is a regular trope while its subtrope In Memoriam is trivia, or how not all subtropes of Character Derailment and Internet Backdraft are Flame Bait, despite the supertropes' status.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
