Unreleased Work Page Cleanup (Speculation, Spoilers, ZCE etc.)

Just as a heads up, people have obtained physical copies of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom early and are streaming the game on Discord and Twitch (link (heh) does not contain spoilers). While nobody has attempted to add leaked content yet, we should monitor Tears of the Kingdom's pages just in case.

Well I ended up having to remove leak stuff from the TotK pages today so now I'm wondering if we should just lock the pages until the game comes out next Friday.

It's a short enough time period that we shouldn't bother.

Not sure if there's a more appropriate thread for leaks on ongoing works, but -

Marvel Comics has been teasing a big character death in the next couple of months, tied to a Spider-Man arc. Leaks today suggest it's going to be Ms. Marvel.

I'll keep an eye on the comic and character pages, although I suspect we're mostly likely to get unhappy YMMV entries on this one.

I don't believe there are any leaks that the character in question will stay dead.

So, EW published a much more professional version of the leak, and then Marvel published their own press release confirming it was true.

By that point we'd had a number of pages updated by tropers, and I'd created an ATT (just before the Marvel article appeared, I think) asking how we should approach those edits.

Any comments there are most welcome.

Made a page for Film.Five Nights At Freddys 2023 and someone’s already gone and made a character page for it. Probably a bit premature, I feel. It’s got a lot of speculation and a smaller copy of the poster from the main page.

For real. Someone needs to be watching Film.Five Nights At Freddys 2023. Getting a fair bit of speculation there and on the character page so far. Blanked a few things out already.

The Nightmare Fuel page is also pretty speculative and bloated.

Also, someone came and put up a synopsis from AMC theatres. I have asked if this was differentiated enough to avoid plagiarism. No word yet if it is.

Possibly an unpopular view, but I still think that...

• We shouldn't have Characters page entries for characters who've only appeared in an unreleased work. Which, by extension, means no creating a Characters page purely for an unreleased work.
• For sequels and franchises, we shouldn't allow pre-existing Characters pages to add tropes (or images) from an unreleased work. We keep seeing cases where tropers rush to update an established character's entry/image with things from trailers or posters (e.g. all the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania character pics), and it just causes headaches for everyone.

I completely agree with you in this one instance.

One of the things that I commented out:

• Practically Different Generations: Mike is a grown man who seems to be in his twenties and his younger sister Abby appears to be younger then 10. He is also her legal guardian. Abby is at an age of needing to be attended to by a babysitter, which Mike couldn't afford. Forcing him to bring her along to his shift at the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.

Here is the troper’s response: Hello, Although I didn't cite any sources for my adding the Practically Different Generations to the Five Nights at Freddy's movie, but Mike's actor Josh Hutcherson is a 30 year old man as of 2023, and while the age of Abby's actress Piper Rubio isn't currently public, she is clearly a young (possibly preteen or younger) girl. The synopsis also mentions that Mike is Abby's caretaker, and that he brought her along to his work from not being able to afford a babysitter. Despite there not being sources that directly confirmed it, it seems all but certain to me that the film is going for a big sibling gap dynamic between the two characters. The only thing missing is that the official sources have yet to mention their exact ages. Hence why I added the Practically Different Generations trope to this page. Although I completely your concerns regarding the lack of sources, it seems so obvious what they're going for from the actors they casted and the synopsis descriptions. Is this still too much speculation for TV Trope's policies, even if there is enough writing on the wall for it?

Good thought. Is there any way we could use the existing Sandbox.Future Works one for that as well? Either mark them in some way within the existing list, or add a new section to it including/duplicating the 'keep a close eye on' cases?

We don't typically make those sort of lists, mostly because they just end up being locked if repeat issues occur.

Well someone had better keep an eye on the film page, the character page, and the nightmare fuel page. I’m worried it’s gonna turn into Mario all over again.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire only has a short title reveal. Is that enough?

It was a trailer, technically, so I was able to get plenty from it.

Do we have any view on Creator page updates for unreleased works?

For example, is it ok to add a Creator page bullet for a work once it's announced...

• If we don't have a title for that work? E.g. "unnamed upcoming cyberpunk novel (2024)" for an author.
• If we have a work name but not a character role? E.g. "BigNewFilm II (role tbc)" for an actor.

VideoGame.Mortal Kombat 1 will have to be transplanted to VideoGame.Mortal Kombat 1992, since now there is an upcoming game itself named Mortal Kombat 1. This will also force us to undo the custom title too.

So I’ve made a page for WesternAnimation.Nimona 2023. I’m thinking about a trivia page for it but most of the examples for the film are already on a trivia page for the comic. Do I just copy or cut and paste from there?

The sequel uses Roman numerals, so shouldn't it have been at VideoGame.Mortal Kombat I anyway?

• Adaptation Displacement: An extremely minor example. While the original Five Nights at Freddy's game series is far from obscure, it's also known for its difficult increasing as the games progress that turned some people away from playing the game. But on the other hand, because the movie is based off of the video game of the same name, it's most likely going to be quite simple to follow. As a result, there's a good number of people who will be going to see the film without any interest in playing the game.

This is a massive franchise already (one of the biggest YouTubers ever built a multi million dollar empire from it). I really doubt that the people who go see it Will have this film overshadowed the original games in peoples thoughts.

That's an obvious no, even if Adaptation Displacement can apply pre-release. Which I'm not sure should be allowed.
