Honestly, since we have spoilers off on the moment pages, I don't think it would be much of an issue if there was an image on the Nightmare Fuel page. Besides, since the fact that it has nightmare fuel is kind of part of the spoiler, I think people can assume that looking at this page would be inherently spoiling in general. If you do agree, then I have a couple of ideas that I wanted to put forward with some potential captions.

If you still don't think there should be an image, then fine.

I know the last pic is from the game; what about the others?

They're all from the game. Some from in-game Easter eggs and some from the files.

I'm gonna go with 1.2.

It's hard to tell what's even going on in 1.3, and even though moment pages are Spoilers Off, I still prefer to use non-spoiler images whenever possible, so that precludes the others.

1.2 works.

Also SFW as a bonus.

Even if a page is Spoilers Off, everything above the example line still has to be spoiler-free. This goes double for images, since they immediately draw your attention and are absorbed almost instantly.

The page used to have an image, but I made a thread about it and it got removed.

Considering how, as both you and I have noticed, the very fact that the game has Nightmare Fuel is a spoiler, I think it's best to leave the page without an image. The only thing that isn't a spoiler and could be considered Nightmare Fuel is the realistic and hard-hitting portrayal of Sayori's depression, which can't really be conveyed through an image.

If the very fact that the game has Nightmare Fuel is a spoiler, then it was already spoiled by the fact that the game has a NF page. Definitely don't use either of the last two in the OP, though, as they're HUGE spoilers. Here is the image that was removed via IP thread:

I guess you have a point there, Zux, but still, my argument is that if you're on that page, you know things are going to be spoiled. The fact that the seemingly cutesy game has a Nightmare Fuel page means that the stuff associated with that nightmare fuel is going to be inherently spoiler-ridden in nature. Basically, if you're on the page, you probably have an idea of what's going to happen.

Though, I could be wrong about people making that assumption. And if I haven't convinced you, then I'll accept the decision.

[up] And that explains my point perfectly.

Zuxtron Berserk Button: misusing Nightmare Fuel from Node 03 (On A Trope Odyssey)
#9: Sep 14th 2018 at 2:42:42 PM

There are reasons why someone unfamiliar with the game might end up on the page. Perhaps they came from NightmareFuel.Visual Novels and clicked on a random link. Perhaps they're unfamiliar with the spoiler policy that says Nightmare Fuel pages are Spoilers Off, saw that the game had a page, and clicked on it expecting stuff along the line of Sayori's depression rather than meta-horror.

Sure, you might argue that clicking on random Nightmare Fuel pages isn't a smart thing to do when you're avoiding spoilers, but that's what the big bold "All spoilers are unmarked!" warning is for. If someone ends up on the page by mistake, it'll let them know not to keep reading. If there's a clearly visible spoiler right next to it, that defeats the purpose.

As of typing, it will be only five days short of a year since the game's release date. Combined with the immense popularity of this visual novel, and it's more-or-less a given that a lot of major plot points/the Surprise Creepy is what drew people to DDLC

I'd say we go the route that was used on NightmareFuel.Undertale and give it an image that doesn't give away too much, like 1.2 (though preferably with the background as Nat with just the plain white screen looks more jarring and kinda goofy-looking than scary).

Personally, I think the old image is less spoileriffic than Natsuki's Neck Snap. I also forgot to mention that someone added an image of the warning displayed when starting the game, which I replaced with a quote.

[down] The image on Ominous Visual Glitch was chosen via IP thread.

[up] I agree with you there, but I also think the old image (1.3) would be great on Ominous Visual Glitch, especially since the current is a duplicate with The Autobiography of Jane Eyre.

Yeah, I have a problem.

[up] I agree that it would be a better fit for Ominous Visual Glitch, although this page's former pic would be a good candidate as well, possibly even better.

[up] I actually like 1.3 better than Natsuki's Neck Snap, to be honest. I just feel that considering the "glitches" that DDLC is known for (and the page for Ominous Visual Glitch being a duplicate), it would make a good image on that trope page without giving away too much. Plus, Nat's neck snap is more recognizable to fans rather than an Easter Egg found in the files.

(EDIT: I just realized you probably meant the Yuri one. My bad!)

[up][up][up] Frankly, just because an image was chosen (or left blank) by an IP thread, it doesn't mean that it'll stay that way forever. We can always try to open a new IP thread and see if it can be changed.

I might suggest the picture be of Yuri when she has photo-realistic eyes. It's not a spoiler for any of the big plot turns, and it doesn't give away any "glitches," which are usually meant to take you by surprise anyways. If you know nothing about the game, it wouldn't give away anything, but would still illustrate the concept.

[up] I disagree, mostly because the realistic eyes/eyes popping out/realistic mouth/etc. would still fall under the game being "corrupted."

I think the former image (7) looks better than the others, so I'd be fine with restoring that one.

I don't see how it's a spoiler, since it doesn't give away anything about the plot. Yes, glitches are a notable part of the game, but they're not the only part. Most of the original suggestions show that glitches aren't the only way the game uses horror.

I think 1.3 could work for Ominous Visual Glitch, since it doesn't look particularly scary or spoilery without knowing the context, so it's fine for a general trope page.

Clock's up; locking for inactivty/lack of consensus.

I'm going to start a new thread for Ominous Visual Glitch using a couple of the pics from this thread.
